Recently some of you asked me to share a little more of my designing process. And while I found it to be an awesome idea, I soon realised that I had trouble to decide what to share exactly. 😁 Mainly because there is always a lot of frogging involved and I often don't know whether my idea is going to work in the end. I don't want to get your hopes up if I am not sure if I will really finish the project - let alone make a pattern for it afterwards. 🙈 But today I decided to jump over my shadow and share what I am currently working on. 🧶 It is another colorwork project and this is not the first stitch pattern I tried. Right now I think I am happy with this one and going to stick with it. But I still feel the need to add a little disclaimer: I might not. And you might never see this project again. I really don't know what will happen. 🤷‍♀️ 🤣 So what I learned about my own designing process the past few weeks is the following: I do a lot of things by trial and error. I start knitting and then I frog a little or even rip out the entire project, try something different, frog again and so on... until I am happy with the result. 😊 In the future I will try to share a little more about my designing process. If you are interested in something specific, please let me know. I really want to me this as relevant to you as possible. Also let me know if you are going about things in a whole different way. Thoughts on grading and size inclusive patterns: Lately I feel overwhelmed by pattern writing and the admin work that has to be done behind the scenes. 💻 I am still grading the Reyna Sweater - the red one with the lace neckline pictured above. #reynaSweater 'Grading' is the process of creating several sizes for a garment. 🧶 If you have been following this space for a while, you know that I offer all my sweater patterns in at least 10 sizes. Creating size inclusive patterns has always been important to me. But this time I would like to include even more sizes - not sure how many I can manage though yet. #sizeinclusive What most people don't know is that the very small sizes and the very large sizes take significantly more time to grade than the sizes in between. It is not like we can grade each size in the same amount of time over all sizes of the size range. At least not if you are doing it properly and with the intention of creating a garment that really fits. If I would only offer half the sizes I usually offer, I would probably only need a quarter of the time I usually need - or even less. This is why I totally understand if small indie designers choose to offer less sizes. Especially as most of us don't make any profit from selling patterns. Still, it is important to me that everyone is able to knit from my patterns. Even if it means that I need to spend more time on the pattern and have to have a lot of patience. Everyone should be able to find knitting patterns for their size. 💕 So, please bear with me.
