On to the next archaeological site of the day, the impressive passage grave complex of Knowth (like 'Now-th', not 'Noh-th'). As mentioned in my diary, it consists of one huge central mound surrounded by lots of smaller ones. The entrances to the passages into the main mound are still clearly visible, aligned roughly on an east-west axis, but they're apparently not stable enough to let tourists into so any access is strictly for research purposes.
The photos above don't really give you a clear idea of the layout of the site, so here's a satellite pic (i.e. a Google Earth screenshot) as well.

Spring Equinox in the Ancient Irish Calendar
Equinox is the date (or moment) some astronomical alignments in Ireland mark as being auspicious. Not many, mind you, but some, like the cairn on Loughcrew or the two passages of Knowth, a sort of super-alignment with quadruple significance. Though the actual alignment of Knowth is disputed, it might be a lunar alignment or not an alignment at all. The equinox is far less obvious an astronomical…

Cnogba / Knowth • 1
Some pics from my tour to Cnogba/Knowth. Don't even know what to say aside from it blew me away. It's huuuge and the kerbstones are so captivating it was so hard to peel myself away to get the bus back. Art over 5,000 years old and *I* got to see it. Jsjshskdkdhsj
The satellite mounds and their passages and the entrance stones and their standing stone alignments were also incredible
Crying on both the inside and the outside that the eastern entrance is obscured by the metal stairs like, people walk right by, don't even notice it, it's not part of the tours but hello?? The eastern passage and it's timber circle outside? The remains of ritual deposits outside and the grave goods inside?? The MACEHEAD??
OPW if u see this ilu but plz unbury the eastern passage it deserves just a little more dignity >.>
The western passage's entrance is the last two pics, it's nice and cleared, and you can see the entrance stone's designs and the aligned standing stone very well

The great mound at Knowth is also interesting because it's surrounded by these huge boulders, all of them carved with shapes like circles (concentric and otherwise), spirals, lozenges and wiggly lines. Supposedly it makes up one of the biggest known collections of Neolithic megalithic art. Some of these have been interpreted as astronomical maps of some kind - which I feel holds some water as a hypothesis; the people who built these places clearly understood a thing or two about the movements of the heavens - but others are hard to see as anything but abstract patterns.

#OTD in Irish History | 6 October:
1175 – Under the Treaty of Windsor, concluded on this date, Rory O’Connor recognises Henry as his overlord and agrees to collect tribute for him from all parts of Ireland. Henry agrees that O’Connor can be king of the areas not conquered by the Normans. But O’Connor cannot control the territories of which he is nominally king, and Henry and his barons annex further land without consulting…

I wanna try out more socials to post my art on, I’d be interested in getting some new audience for my stuff but at the same time I’m scared of bullying and such.
Seriously this community is VILE on most platforms
#brawl stars#< what I’m referring to mostly#twitter does seems like a good occasion for growth but there’s some questionable people there#same for TikTok#most people on these sites knowthing about fandom (or general internet) etiquette 😔#Pinterest does seem safe enough#so I could give it a try for the time being

@knowthings asked for an encounter .
It was an unexpected sight—a welcome one, albeit strange. Caitlyn hadn’t planned for this, not in the slightest. Today's to-do-list included observation, keeping an eye on her father’s lackeys and their dealings, maybe pestering Sevika later if the opportunity arose. But running into a familiar face down here in the undercity? That hadn’t been on the agenda.
She was perched on a nearby balcony, draped in a large purple shawl that concealed her entirely, Caitlyn watched silently. The figure below moved in such a way that tugged at old memories. How many years had it been? Long enough for her to question if her eyes were playing tricks on her. So she waited, studying the movements, the posture. And then she was certain.
With a scoff, she rose, pulling the shawl tightly around her as she made her way down to the street. Caitlyn didn’t announce herself immediately, instead stepping up behind the girl and letting her presence linger before she spoke.
❝ Fancy seeing you here,❞ she finally called, her voice light yet laced with a sharp edge. The fabric still obscured her face, lending her a shrouded, almost ghostly appearance. There was no malice in her tone, but something about it carried an unmistakable sense of dark mischief.
Caitlyn leaned closer, her words playful but pointed. ❝ I thought you’d gone fully topsider on me. Assimilated to their ways, never to be seen again. What’s it like up there? Uptight, suffocating, and reeking of perfume and privilege, just as I imagine?” She smirked, though the expression was hidden beneath the fabric of her hood.
At last, she pulled it back, revealing her face. Her sharp blue eyes now mixed with a bit of purple glinted with something unreadable — a mixture of curiosity and something slightly... off-putting. The smile she wore wasn’t entirely friendly; it was more of a playful mockery, edged with a kind of unhinged undertone.
❝ Do you still remember me?❞ she asked, tilting her head slightly, her tone hovering between teasing and daring. ❝ Or has the topside made you forget the faces of the undercity?❞

Pics of some of the satellite mounds and one of their passages (not pictured: my phone and face pressed against the iron gate as I take a pic of the inside and stare at the all the rooockks in there 👀)
The timber circle pic was taken while standing inside towards the back, looking at the main mound. From that angle the posts are symmetrically arranged
The last two pictures are of the eastern entrance (my beloved) and its aligned standing stone, which are mostly obscured by a large metal set of stairs (cryy). But anyway, look at the art on the entrance stone!! Concentric rectangular spirals.... They're on both the western and eastern entrance stones but the eastern one is so striking to me
