Synopsis [baka updates]: Under the curse of Orochi, the great demon serpent reborn every 300 years, Japan has been shrouded in clouds for as long as anyone can remember. The era of the samurai is at an end, and carrying swords has been outlawed. To combat the rising crime rates, an inescapable prison was built in the middle of Lake Biwa. When brothers Tenka, Soramaru and Chutaro Kumo are hired to capture and transport offenders to their final lodgings in this prison, they unexpectedly find themselves faced with a greater destiny than any of them could have imagined.

Living at the Kumo shrine was never dull. There always seemed to be some problem and more often than not, it fell to the second son to fix things, if only because the first son was usually the cause of said trouble. And today it was Tenka spending their grocery money on booze and subsequently sleeping the day away. And while Shirasu did his best to offer his assistance as their housekeeper, there were some areas he wasn't allowed to interfere. Buying groceries was innocent enough but anything involving the kitchen was strictly off limits. He can bake sweets but that was about it. (he still doesn't understand why people don't like his cooking...)

He looks down at Soramaru, nodding. "I'm sure the people in town would be willing to help. But if it would be helpful, I can always go hunting. If it would make you feel better, I'll stick to only catching animals and not foraging." After all, if the Kumo's can't stomach his cooking, it would be uncertain if they could handle as many wild mushroom variants as he could.

How I wish this is how Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng’s closure went but oh well. I should just accept the fact that those two sure are bad at communicating. 

Context: Tenka apologized to Sousei after years of bad blood between them. Tenka and Sousei both have dreams together before but Tenka is forced to quit and has no choice but to become the parental figure of his younger brothers after his parents died. Sousei hated him for that because he felt betrayed. Later, Sousei also found out Tenka volunteered for dark experiment and Sousei was hurt for not knowing that. Even if Tenka technically quitted their organization, he’s actually still helping them behind the scene as a human sacrifice. In this scene, Tenka finally apologized to Sousei not because he regret his decision but he know he did hurt his old friend. 

And yeah, I ship Tenka and Sousei. Look at those matching scars!!!

Series I want to add to my collection this year

O Maidens in Your Savage Season - a group of teenage girls in a literary club deal with puberty. the main girl accidentally walks on her childhood friend “relieving” himself at his desk

Call the Name of the Night - a young girl turns her surroundings into “night” when under distress. lives with a magic doctor to help her cure her ailment. (the artwork is really pretty)

Veil - a more than friends, less than lovers relationship told through vignettes between a blind runaway and an officer. suppose to release this year, but no specifics yet.

Otonari Complex - childhood friends between a tomboy girl and a crossdressing guy in college. the girl slowly realizes her feelings for her friend who has always protected and been there for her

I Want to End this Love Game - a several year long game between stubborn childhood friends, the first one to get embarrassed when the other tells them “I love you” loses.

Series I’m still contemplating about

Laughing Under the Clouds - i watched the anime back in high school. in the tokyopop release decided to actually romanize the family name (kumo - 雲) on stuff like the back of Tenka’s haori and it’s sooo distractingly ugly. i’m going to read it digitally before buying

Steel of the Celestial Shadows - i read some chapters for vol 1 years ago, it’s the same author as Kasane. the rest of vol 1 was translated last year and i’m sorta lost on what’s going on. i want to read vol 2 digitally before making a decision. the artwork and covers look really good

Mars Red - currently reading this and the artist is the same as Laughing Under the Clouds. the volumes look nice and i like the artwork a lot but idk if i like it enough to buy it

One More Step, Come Stand by My Side - really nice artwork and has some pretty interesting stories (one-shot collection). again, idk if i like it enough to buy it rn

Twisted Wonderland - i played the game, i like the artwork, and the MC for this arc being a guy doing kendo is interesting. i haven’t read it digitally yet and that’s mainly whats holding me back

Endroll Back - scanlations never completed past mid-vol 2. there isn’t a digital release, but the physical actually has the dust cover. i don’t actually want to own it, i just want to know what happens

It's been 93yrs since I even glanced at Donten, but I recently saw the animated Gaiden chapters, and as those credit images rolled by, one of my major thoughts was,

Well, time to imagine it's an omegaverse: Baby Kumo was borne by o!Tenka, and a!Kiiko's holdin' the baby so he can rest for, like, an hour.

Not that surprising since that's my MO in these kinds of situations, but it's also my MO to share these thoughts; so, here they are.
