Episode 24's preview was "the gang are all turned into kids except Matsuri!" and I was like ah man, this is gonna be about how she's Mom isn't it. No instead she leaves them in a cave to go get rawdogged by the evil princess for 20 minutes. I feel like I've been hit by a brick. my god.

I went through a whole arc from like haha, this scene where she first spots her looks kinda gay out of context...

...ha ha, this is starting to remind me of Chimera's ~grudge~ against DynaPink, it'd be fun if we got a rivalry like that if this lasts longer than this episode, but this is probably it for now...

That's a really sweet show! In the end I'm glad I took my time with it. I feel like I really got comfy hanging out with this cast. Everyone's got good at pulling out surprising nuance from their often-overblown performances, so the ending stuff got me pretty emotional!

If there is a negative, it's that right at the end for this final kid character they come back to the "no parent would ever abandon their kid!" thing, and like, really focus in on it. Which is just bizarre considering how much of the endgame plot is about how the villain is a mother who doesn't love her children and gets them killed to further her ends. Like c'mon, you made the comparison between the caring and uncaring families super explicit with Zilpheeza's dying lines in 48!

But aside from that, the whole theming feels really good; rescue heroes aren't as much my absolute favourite as some people's, but I do enjoy them plenty, and the family are all so fully-realised in their charm and foibles. Matoi is the most believable annoying big brother in all of television. Matsuri on paper should be such an And The Girl but she just works on screen. And the villains are a bunch of full-on album-cover gothic demons, whose own growth towards most of them loving each other by the end is really compelling. And Dinus I am free on Saturday if you are free on Saturday when I am free

I like the way it gradually builds out the feeling of the broader community and social circles in a more permanent way than a lot of shows' one-off characters...I like the tech'n'development feeling of their toys (which must have felt like a lot of toys at the time! and still is a bit, even if there aren't Forms)...I like the music and like Kyoko and I really like the suits, the transparent visor shots are always a treat. It's good! Love a good sentai.

(It was a bit funny that their robot blew up and in the same episode they found out that they had an identical-looking backup one in a warehouse--WAIT NO HANG ON THAT WAS THE BLACK AND GOLD DELUXE TOY VERSION? LIKE THE GOZYU DAIZYUZIN?? Incredible)
