(1) OK WAIT ADDING ONTO THE ANALYSIS FOR IZAYA (same anon), so i just finished episode 7 of drrr!!x2 ketsu and the scene at the end where izaya calls shizuo and pretty much provokes him after sending down a giant construction crane to knock him and varona out (i feel like izaya knew shizuo would be able to defend her and would catch it in time, but he only did it to see what he'd do), when izaya spews a bunch of things that he thought might've ticked shizuo enough to fight him-

I wonder if his constant rejections have caused him to develop a particular unhealthy attachment style in his interpersonal relationships? Like avoidant attachment styles usually develop in people who were ignored or abandoned in their childhood and anxious attachment styles are linked to inconsistent responses (i.e. their caregivers being really kind one moment but distant the next). We have limited knowledge of Izaya's parents or childhood though, of course.

Ahh I'm so happy you enjoyed it cause I def feel rusty on my Izaya writing LOL and yes, I definitely remember you, your request was really fun to write!

I try to be really conscious about how much biased romantic "fantasy" to attribute to a character vs staying consistent to how I interpret their actual personalities in canon but... admittedly I think I tend to lean more towards my own desires, especially with characters I really like 🤣

I also really like that about Izaya too! I tend to be attracted to things/people I feel are really difficult to "conquer" so I end up crushing on emotionally detached or unapproachable characters 😬

As for Shinra... I always see him as Celty's ultimate simp tbh LOL so the way he treats Izaya is like "hoes before bros." You can't force someone to care about you or treat you in the way you feel you deserve--thats something I've learned really recently in my own life so, while I do feel sympathetic for Izaya's loneliness, I don't hold any ill will for Shinra over it. Shinra is just kind of a shitty friend, he's very self-centered, doing things he claims are for Celty but really just to trap her so he can live his fantasy with her rather than giving her what she truly wants/needs.

Izaya is not completely innocent either though--its hard to make genuine connections with people when most of your outward emotions are fabricated and you constantly manipulate people. Despite his self-proclaimed love for humans, Izaya doesn't actually understand human emotions well enough to have a good relationship with them.
