Game Night was hosted every third Friday of the month. Cramped in the new tiny apartment, 7 friends and their significant others wound up on my shitty couch shouting nonsense at each other.
The living room consisted of the old couch, my TV on top of a cardboard box I hadn't quite unpacked yet, and numerous card games.
Holding the slip in my hand, I eye the timer in front of me on the makeshift coffee table My eyes scanned the paper quickly before jumping up and snapping my fingers, "Okay okay, it's born in the water but moves onto land when older."
My friends stare at me dumbfounded, their minds elsewhere as I furrow my brows and tap my feet numerous times. "Come on guys, it's what a tadpole turns into when it's older!" I'm practically yelling now, eyes darting between my friends sitting down and the tiny timer on the table.
"A baby turtle?"
"Andddd time"
I groan in annoyance, dropping the slip of paper while walking back to the spot on the couch, and plopping down with a huff.
"A baby turtle? Seriously?' I scoff, rolling my eyes at my friends who couldn't contain their laughter at my obvious annoyance.
"Okay I'll go nex-", My friend Abby was cut short by a knock on the door. It wasn't necessarily a pound, but it definitely made all of us go silent.
We all look at each other quickly, almost mentally counting everyone to make sure it wasn't an expected visitor.
I slide off the couch, my eyebrows raised for a moment before I walk towards the door. Standing on my tiptoes, I look through the peephole to see my next-door neighbor, Lucas, standing there with an annoyed expression painted on his face. I sigh and unlock the door, poking my head out with a smile.
"Are we too loud?", I ask with innocent eyes, my bottom lip tugged into my teeth as I speak quietly. Lucas gave a friendly smile, his eyebags hidden behind his eyeglasses as he turned to point at his door, "I know it's a Friday night but I'm really busy in the studio tonight... kind of hard to concentrate when there's a bunch of girls next door squealing over....?"
I finish the sentence for him, "If tadpoles are baby turtles." I rub the back of my neck shyly, laughing almost to myself.
"Right yeah, is there any way to keep it down just a tad?"
I give him a thumbs up before we part ways- him rubbing his eyes and kicking his door shut with his bare foot and me turning around and closing it softly. My friends all huddled up behind the door, eavesdropping on our conversation, and as soon as the door shut, they all squealed quietly.
"Oh my gosh! Y/n!", My friend Abby gushing, nudging me with her shoulder harshly. "You never told me you have huge chemistry with your neighbor?"
My eyes grow wide and my hands shoot up in defense, "Oh no- Lucas? He's just a neighbor"
All of my friends' eyes were on me now, and an awkward silence fell upon us. I give a mere shrug before walking back over to the coffee table to scoop up all the cards spawled across it.
"Game night at mine next time?", Abby asks from beside me, picking up the numerous cups with mysterious liquids in them with a disgusted look on her face.
I just nod in response, shoving the cards in their rightful places before sighing softly. We said our goodbyes with platonic kisses on the cheeks and dramatic waves before I was left alone in my apartment again.
It was cold, empty, and dead silent in here- completely opposite of the neighbor beside me I'd assume. My bedroom was similar to the living room- a tiny mattress rested on the floor and my toiletries were packed away in numerous boxes I was too lazy to unbox. My head hits the stiff pillow below me and I could hear Lucas in his bedroom strumming his guitar, humming to himself lowly.
It was a little after one o'clock in the morning, but he seemed to be wide awake singing.
"some things are meant to be secret and not to be heard"
It had officially been two weeks since the game night and two weeks since he came to my door. Lucas and I would occasionally make eye contact on the way to the mailboxes or even hold the elevator for one another- but not a single word was shared between us. He was always in his own world, his head bobbing to an imaginary beat inside his head.
Every night I could hear him singing to himself softly, the wall dividing our bedrooms was as thin as paper. The occasional groan and the sound of notebooks hitting the wall distracted me on nights I needed to sleep, but I never once said anything to him. He was a musician- and a very good one to say the least. I didn't want to be the annoying next-door neighbor.
I swing my door open, looking out into the hallway and scanning each door before finally averting my eyes to his own. The wrench in one hand was held on with a tight grip while the other hand carried the TV mount at my side. I could hear the sounds of various instruments being played from behind his door, his voice clearing every few moments to restart a lyric if it didn't sound right the first time.
The hand that held the wrench swung up, knocking on his door a few times before I took a step back and awkwardly looked around the hallway once again. The sounds from behind his door abruptly stopped and I could hear his heavy footsteps making their way towards the door now. Taking one more step back, I watched as Lucas opened the door and looked down at me,
"I'm sorry, am I being too loud?", He cheekily asked, a smile painted on his lips.
"No no, you're fine.", I laugh at his innocent teasing, quoting our most recent encounter. "I was actually coming over to see if you knew how to mount a TV", I poke my head around his figure and motion towards his apartment, "but seeing as you're busy-"
"I'm not busy." He corrects me, leaning inside his door to grab his keys before turning back towards me and grabbing the box from my hand. "Let me help you out, it'll take 10 minutes tops."
It didn't take 10 minutes. Hell, It didn't even take 30 minutes.
There Lucas and I both were, tools of various shapes and sizes sprawled out across my apartment floor and a cheap bottle of wine I found at the back of my fridge.
"Lucas are you sure you know how to-"
"It's Luke and yes, I know how to do this", he grumbles nonsense to himself as he flips through the instruction manual for the third time tonight. I sighed to myself slightly, trying to keep myself from laughing by taking a swig of the wine.
"Could always just use thumbtacks"
This makes Luke laugh, his eyebrows relaxing on his face and cheeks going bright red. He tosses the manual at me, and I put my hands up to defend myself.
"I'm pretty sure some thumbtacks couldnt hold a 35 pound Tv," He holds his stomach as he rolls around my floor, laughing loudly. I roll my eyes at this, groaning and tossing the screwdriver on the floor.
"Look, it's getting late. I'll just have you come over and do it another time.", I point towards the clock, which was held up with thumbtacks, that read two o'clock in the morning.
"Oh shit, sorry I totally spaced it," Luke stands up now, gathering up his tools quickly and giving me a crooked smile. "I'll swing by sometime this week to help you, I promise." I'm smiling now, shooing him out the door quickly.
"Yeah yeah see you later, rockstar", I tease and close the door abruptly, only to be stopped by a foot in the way.
"What are you doing tomorrow?", The way his eyes glimmered in the hallway light, his hair slicked back from sweat and cheeky dimples appeared as he smiled at me.
"I have finals tomorrow morning, and I'll probably be dead by the time its over- anytime after that I'm free.", I groan dramatically and push my palm into my forehead.
Luke just nods, freeing his foot from the doorway, and gives me a thumbs up, "I'll be sure to be quiet tonight so you can get your rest." I thank him kindly and give him a soft wave before closing the door behind him.
Luke was anything but quiet. I tossed and turned throughout the night, pushing the pillow closer to my ears as I heard him attempting to sing a lyric he wasn't even finished with. if there's one thing I've learned about him in the month and a half I've known him- he was a perfectionist. He sang the same things over and over countless times making sure it was absolutely perfect.
"Cause all these bodies are hoping to get addicted-"
I swing my arm up, smacking on the wall a couple times before groaning and letting it fall to my side once again. His side of the wall went silent immediately, the shuffling of papers and a small mumbled "sorry" was heard.
Luke had avoided me from that point forward: he didn't hold the elevator for me nor did he come and check his overflowing mailbox.
I found myself at his door once again, knocking in one swift movement before clearing my throat. I could hear him shuffling around his apartment, a loud thud followed by a "shit, one second!".
The door opens and a dripping-wet Luke is before me, a towel tightly wrapped around his waist. I blink a few times, holding my gaze above his shoulders out of respect.
"Why are you avoiding me", I ask in a monotone voice, cutting straight to the point. He raises his eyebrows at this now, one hand sassily on his hip.
"Who said I was avoiding you?", He chuckles lightly and opens the door wider, motioning for me to enter. My nose is filled with the smell of the oven baking something sweet mixed with his charcoal body wash. I step inside with a smile, closing the door behind me.
Luke wipes the water from his face and turns away from me, entering his bathroom for a split second, leaving me standing in his kitchen.
I glance around his living room: Pictures of his friends and family are hung up neatly on the wall, his instruments are laid out on the floor around his couch, and his bookshelf is overflowing with numerous copies of musical books.
He emerges from the bathroom once again, now clothed in a sweatshirt and basketball shorts and the towel that was once wrapped around his waist was now encased in his curls.
"I was just going to invite you over actually," He laughs again, flashing me his million-dollar smile before pointing at his dining table. It was decorated with a lace tablecloth, a small bouquet of flowers sitting in a glass-decorated vase, and a plate of steaming hot pasta was laid out. I smile to myself slightly, looking back up at him before taking my seat at the table, he rushes forward, scooting my chair in for me before taking his own seat across from me.
"What's the occasion?" I ask while picking up my fork, poking at the seafood pasta that was professionally plated. If you would've told me he hired a chef to make dinner- I would've believed you.
"I was loud on the night of your finals and I felt horrible knowing I kept you up all night", He picks up his napkin and places it neatly on his lap, "I wanted to make it up to you after I mounted your TV buttt you showed up a little early", He teases.
I take a bite of my food, groaning into the fork with a muffled giggle as my eyes look up at his. The food was amazing, and the flavor was intricately picked out to perfection.
Going back, this perfectly proved my point that Luke was a perfectionist.
We found small talk, conversing over what I was majoring in and what he was busy working on.
"So the album is almost done, I just need to finish this last song," He shrugs his shoulders and scrapes at the remains off his plate. I smile to myself, looking up now with innocent eyes, "Maybe I can help?"
He stands up abruptly, turning around and opening the oven to reveal the freshly baked brownies he had made- from scratch may I add. I groan in anticipation and rub my hands together dramatically. He grabs the brownies with oven mitts, turning around and facing me.
"If you want to help me, I'll allow it", he laughs and places the pan down gently and walks towards his living room, picking up a notebook that was previously thrown across the room.
"Here", he places it in front of me, removing my empty plate and walking
The notebook was written in barely eligible handwriting, with numerous words crossed out and mental notes scribbled on the sides.
Some things are meant to be secret and not to be heard so if I tell you, just keep it and don't say a word. when the doors are all closing.....It's bound to get ?? all these bodies are hoping to get addicted to
The rest of the page was scribbled out, lyrics that never made the cut. I snatch the pen from the metal spiral holding the pages together and click it once.
"it's bound to get.... loud?" I scribble it down next to the question marks and look up at him, scratching his chin with a nod. His cheeks were red now, the wine flushing through his body.
"What rhymes with loud?"
I look up at him now, as he scoots his chair right up next to me to the point our legs are touching.
"Cloud, hmmm,"
"Sound," we both say in unison.
Luke claps his hands together and grabs the pen from my hands, opening the notebook to a new page and scribbling down the new and improved lyrics. I watch him closely, the way his eyes twinkled and dimples poked through when he was concentrating.
I was so screwed. I was falling for my next door neighbor.
I didn't see him for another two weeks, his side of the wall seemed eerily vacant and completely silent. I even knocked a few times in hopes he'd knock back in some sort of rhythm, but there was no response.
Hearing the knock on my door shot my body out of bed, sweat dripping down my neck and sides. I groan and tap on my phone to check the time, blinding myself in the process. The pounding never stopped, not until I stumbled out of bed and opened my door. My heart skipped a beat, praying that the blonde would be on the other side with that cheeky smile I adored.
"Hello?", I ask in a groggy voice whilst rubbing my eyes and squinting up at the person who disturbed my slumber- at 2 a.m. may I add.
Instead of a person, I was met with an empty cold hallway. I avert my gaze down and towards my door mat. There, set up neatly was a bouquet of flowers with a note tied to the front with white lace.
I smile at myself and crouch down, picking up the thoughtful gift and looking down the hallway one last time before kicking my door shut.
Y/n,
I'm sorry I didn't see you before I left. Our album releases at 2:30am today and I was supposed to leave at 2... I just knew I had to leave you something on my way out. I hope you like the flowers I picked out my mom helped me.
I'd have probably sent you the link to the album by the time you finish reading this note.
I'm going to be all over the world, touring and doing what I love. I can't wait to be back home and see you again, i'll make sure to facetime every change I get.
love,
your rockstar
I could hear the familiar ringtone from my bedroom, alerting me that Luke was a man of his word. I wipe a few stray tears and make my way to the bedroom, snatching my phone up with my free hand and clicking the link he had sent me.
This is the song I spent the last 3 months working on, keeping you tossing and turning until finally you perfected it.

you sigh as you put your earbuds in to tune out the sound of the man in the front seat belting the lyrics of ‘we belong together’ by mariah carey with the brunette in the passenger seat.
you couldn’t help but let your eyes linger on the man. his blond, curly hair, just long enough to rest above his eyes, the stubble on his face that hadn’t been shaven in at least two weeks, that pointy nose that was sculpted by the gods, and those ocean blue eyes.
you loved looking into those eyes.
he was your best friend, he was the one constant in your life and now he feels like a stranger.
you’re taken out of your trance when calum nudges your shoulder. “you okay?” he mouths. you nod quickly offering him a smile, looking back down to the book you were reading.
calum sighs, he reaches for his phone and types up a quick message.
-“you sure? you were staring again, y/n..”
-“i’m fine, cal. swear.”
calum huffs but leaves it at that. the two in the front continue belting out the lyrics and calum keeps an eye on you for the rest of the drive.
you should’ve said no, you wanted to say no and stay home where at least you’d be free of the torture. but, with calum being calum he begged you until you agreed. just like he did when he convinced you to open up for them on tour in the early days.
if you had said no then, maybe none of this would’ve happened.
”luke..i..” you wiped your eyes, it was so hard for you to hear that when you had spent all your life with him only to lose him in the end. “i’m sorry.”
luke shook his head, “no, i’m sorry.”
he stands there, looking at you with sorrowful eyes. he can feel himself tearing up but the moment is interrupted by sierra busting through the door. “there you are!” she says, walking over to your side, her hand finding your arm. “are you okay, hon?” her eyes soften, noticing your tears.
you don’t say anything but you nod, looking away while the girl side hugs you. “did luke bother you? i told him specifically to not take away your spotlight tonight” she says in a teasing matter and you laugh softly. but luke doesn’t seem too amused.
“okay, well the guys are ready so whenever you’re ready, luke” sierra says, removing herself from your side then going back inside the club.
“so, what should we do?” luke ask, watching as you wipe your eyes once more. you shrug, “nothing, you’re with sierra. my feelings mean nothing anymore.”
your eyes flutter open as you feel someone shaking you gently, “y/n, wake up we made it” you look at calum then begin stretching out as you look around. you see the tall palm trees as you can smell the breeze of saltwater wafting in from the open doors.
you step out of the vehicle and begin stretching while the others, ashton, michael, and crystal arrive in the other car as you gather your items from the backseat and pack them into your carry on, luke has already begun unpacking the car. “here’s your bags, y/n” he says, you don’t skip a beat to bend down to take your bags and head for the entrance of the beach house and not bat an eye at him.
calum and ashton shared a room, the two couples had their own room, so you were left alone. not that you minded at all, it gave you time to think and have you time. if it ever got too overwhelming, you had your own space.
after spending some time unpacking, you decided to head out of your room and put your toiletries in the bathroom. as you stepped out, you saw everyone gathered around the island in the kitchen, sierra jutting down whatever the other guys were saying. “oh! y/n!” ashton announces which then causes the others to look your way. “we’re making a grocery list. is there anything specific you need?” he adds.
you walk over to the island, standing across from them. “well, what do you have down so far?”
“we have breakfast foods…um some stuff for dinner for the nights we don’t eat out…snacks…” sierra begins listing off everything she had written down with a point of the pen.
“sounds like you got everything then” you hum, with a nod. “one more thing” she adds, “do you care to go with me?”
you look at the sierra across from you and smile softly, “sure. is crystal going too?” the brunette shakes her head, “her and mike went to the beach already. just us two” she smiles awkwardly. “oh, that’s fine. let me get changed and we can head out” you force a smile as you walk out of the kitchen to your bedroom.
the drive to the supermarket was quiet, your eyes glued to the road while sierra did whatever she was doing. given the circumstances, there was a little tension between the two of you and it was very hard for you to deal with.
you really liked sierra, she was a kind soul who saw the good in a lot of things. she had always been there to cheer you up, and you had considered her your best friend. but after that night at the open mic, everything changed.
the drive felt like it lasted forever, but eventually, you arrived at the supermarket.
pushing the shopping cart through the isles while sierra was looking at the list, you occasionally would drop some items in the basket that you wanted for yourself or, you and sierra both agreed on it.
“i really miss hanging out with you..” sierra says, standing at the end of the shopping cart in the drink aisle with you.
you look at her, smiling sadly. “i know, i miss it too. just..work has been..work” you try laughing it off. “i can help, you know. i write songs too” she says. you nod, dropping a case of wine in the cart. “i know, i just don’t want to bother you” you shrug, and begin pushing the cart until the next isle.
you hear sierra sigh, giving you the‘you sound ridiculous’. look. “y/n, it won't bother me! you’re my friend and i’d love to help out” you chuckle softly, “okay fine. after this trip we’ll work together.” you cave, and sierra claps her hands quietly with a big smile on her lips.
as the two of you stroll down the isle of chips and other snacks, your eyes catch the package of a certain snack you hadn’t seen in years. “oh my god!” you announce, letting go of the cart to pickup the bag. “what is it?” the other girl asks. “look” you say, showing the bag to her. “i haven’t seen these in years!”
memories wash over you like a wave as you stare at the packaging. “what are they?” she questions. “these are luke’s favorite! back on tour, we used to keep stashes of these in the bus” you laugh, grabbing an extra bag to also put it in the cart. “we could eat up to two or three bags in a day, the other guys would always get onto us..” you laugh, reminiscing.
“oh really?” sierra didn’t know this. she didn’t know his favorite snacks or drinks. she didn’t know how he would bounce his leg when he had a lyric on his mind and needed to write it down, she didn’t know that when he picked at his face subconsciously it meant he was worried. she didn’t know luke’s favorite movie, she didn’t know that he only wears certain rings, rings you got him. she didn’t know that when luke got quiet it meant he was thinking hard about something. she doesn’t know that luke keeps a song journal with some of his deepest feelings.
but you do.
you know all of this.
by the time you and sierra had arrived at the beach house, the sky was already turning dark. you had taken a couple of bags out of the back and began heading inside. “guys, we need help” you announce, dropping the bags on the kitchen counter.
you turn around see the other five standing up from their seats and going outside, and you follow suit.
it took you, sierra, and the other five to haul the rest of the groceries back inside and to unpack. but thankfully, it was only one trip.
while sierra was handing you boxes of cereal, luke hollered, “oh my god!” everyone whips their heads around, startled by his abrupt yell. “what is it?” ashton asks, and luke grinned holding up the bag of snacks before ripping into them letting the smell waft into his nostrils, letting the memories flood back. “it’s the snacks we used to eat!”
you smile, seeing his reaction as he reaches in for a handful, stuffing it in his mouth. “where did you find these? i thought they discontinued them!” he says with a mouth full.
you laugh, walking over and take a couple for yourself. “dont talk with your mouth full, and don’t eat em all because once that bag is gone, you’re donezo. the other one is mine” you taunt earning a frown the from curly-haired man.
sierra watches, she sees how his eye has lit up. she sees and you were suddenly beaming with happiness upon seeing lukes smile.
the next evening, everyone had wanted to go out to dinner to celebrate your second album as a release party. you, however, wanted to stay back as you weren't feeling it but ashton practically demanded and dragged you out of bed and told you to get ready. “okay, okay!! i’ll get ready..” you groan as ashton pushes you into the bathroom, you can hear a victory laugh from him as the door shuts.
you look up, seeing yourself in the mirror knowing you should be excited to go out and celebrate the release of your second album. you had a good following and people who were anticipating your release. but you just weren’t feeling it, probably because all of the songs were about your best friend.
but, you just weren’t looking forward to dinner or the release party.
you step out of your bedroom smoothing out your dress, which is a dark navy blue. you see everyone else standing in the kitchen or sitting on the sofa in their outfits. the guys in their suits, and crystal and sierra in a dress similar to yours, but crystals was red, and sierra was black.
“ready? oh? you’re matching with luke!” ashton laughs, as he stands up from the sofa, pointing to luke’s tie.
you look at luke’s tie, feeling extra awkward now, “oh..” you say. “you okay?” calum asks, “yup, everyone ready?” you change the subject, and they all nod and head out for the night.
all seven of you sat together at a large table at a nice restaurant, ashton and calum had planned it nicely and were sure that the table was in a private area.
you had already finished appetizers when michael spoke up. “do you remember when we first toured?” he asks.
“yeah..” calum and ashton say, you nod. “what was your favorite part of tour?” he asks. everyone falls silent while they think, “definitely all the drinking” calum answers, you laugh and shake your head, “you were a nightmare.”
“definitely” luke agrees with you.
“oh, soundchecks were fun. messing with managers” michael answers.
“i liked songwriting, i wrote some of my favorite songs on tour with you guys.” you smile, remembering all the good times. “performing was kinda cool too” you laugh.
everyone smiles, you hear calums ‘aw’ and you just roll your eyes.
“what about you, luke?” ashton asks.
luke thinks for a moment, but he isn’t too sure how to answer it. “i think i enjoyed performing the most, it was good experience.” michael nods, “true” he agrees.
then the table falls silent again when entrees arrive. everyone seems to be enjoying their food, until, crystal asks you, “y/n, who did you write your songs about?”
you look up from your plate, you feel your ears turning hot. you always hated this question because how could you tell them it was about the man who was sitting just a few feet from you?
“well..” you begin, finishing your bite. “it’s not really about anyone. it’s just a feeling you have” you try your best to come up with something believable. “that way, anyone can relate to what i release.” you smile, but you feel luke’s eyes lingering on your figure.
you look out of the corner of your eye and confirm your suspicions. he was looking at you.
“ah, that makes sense!” crystal smiles, “your work is incredible.”
“thank you, crys”
it was nearing midnight now, closer to your release time. instead of the restaurant you had moved to a club just a few streets over which was also set up for your release party.
ashton was by your side as you enter, letting the couples go in first, then you, ashton, and calum. you look around and see some old faces and friends.
“do you want anything?” calum asks as the two of you stand at the bar. you shake your head, “nah, i’ll pass” you smile while taking a seat at the bar. calum nods, respecting your wishes as he orders himself a drink. you sit there playing on your phone to pass the time until it hits midnight. throughout the night you have people coming up to you and congratulating you on your album, and you just smile and nod. soon enough, midnight rolls around and you hear cheers and ashton appears from what seems like thin air with a cake while congratulating you. you smile, standing up from the bar stool.
“congratulations on your album, y/n/n! we are so proud of you and we can’t wait to see where life takes you!” ashton says, you feel yourself getting emotional seeing all of your friends around you. “we love you!” you hear michael cheer which causes you to giggle before blowing out the candles.
as you leaned in to blow out the candles everything felt like it happened so quickly. a very, very drunk man showed up out of nowhere yelling profanities at your before pushing the cake on you. “and fuck you, you whore-“ he continued until a someone interfered. you see luke out of the corner of your eye, yelling at him to shut up and throwing a few punches in.
you didn’t move, feeling so embarrassed. you look down seeing all the cake on your skin and dress.
sierra and crystal rush to your side and take you away to the bathroom to get you cleaned up.
you were perched up on the counter, both sierra and crystal were trying their best to clean your dress and fix your makeup but you had already started crying.
“why would someone do that?” you ask, feeling so small.
“i don’t know, hon..” sierra sighs, as she wipes off the icing on your face. “people are just jerks..” crystals adds.
thankfully the cake didn’t get on your dress as much as it was on your face. the two other girls let you borrow their makeup once all of the cake was gone so you could try to enjoy the rest of your day.
“thank you guys, i don’t know what i would do you without you” you smile, hugging the two girls before heading back to the club floor.
you spot luke at the bar with michael and walk up, standing beside michael. you order yourself a shot of whatever came to mind first. “you’re drinking? i thought you hated it” michael asks, eyeing as you downed the shot.
“yeah, well, after the fiasco that just happened, i need to let loose for the night”
luke should’ve stopped you after your fifth shot, but he didn’t. he let you drink and he was now paying the price for doing so.
luke knew you better than anyone else, he knew you hated drinking because of the way it made you act and how you felt afterward.
he stares as you dance with an old friend and when he starts touching you a little too much, luke saw red.
he didn’t even realize what he was doing until you were yelling his name. he lets go of the guy and turns to you, “are you okay?” he asks. “luke?! what the fuck?!” you yell, stumbling back a little, and luke catches you. “you’re drunk” luke says, “obviously” you slur followed by a sigh as you finish the rest of your drink.
“okay, i think you’re done. we should head home” he suggested while taking your hand and leading you through the crowd of people to gather up the rest of your group.
you don’t protest, in fact, you are excited to head back home and sleep away the night and hopefully forget everything that happened.
the night has come to an end, and you all had finally returned to the beach house. the seven of you all sat around a bonfire talking about life and what they want in the future. you were seated a few feet from the group, admiring the stars, and how clearly you could see them.
the sudden hit of a soccer ball caught your attention and you followed the direction where the ball had rolled from and your eyes landed on calum and ashton. “cmon” calum says, extending his hand you want to say no because you can feel a headache forming, but calum beats you. “you can’t say no. get up”
you groan, letting him take your hand and drag you in the sand to kick the soccer ball around before all of you head in for the night.
luke didn’t know how long he was watching you. but what he did know, is just how bad he wished he was the one you making laugh like calum does. luke wants to be the one helping you from the sand like ashton does.
his body longs for your touch as his heart yearns for your love.
sierra watched as he was eyeing you, he looked at you like you were the only person in the world. he was starstruck when it came to you, his y/n. everyone saw it except maybe you, and himself.
he’d never admit it though, for the sake of sierra.
but what he didn’t know is that she knew she would never replace you in his heart. luke didn’t know she had already made up her mind about their relationship.
“luke..” she speaks up while leaning in, in hopes of getting his attention. luke is pulled out of whatever trance he was in and finally looks at the girl. “yeah?” he asks, looking as if he had just come off cloud nine after hearing your laugh. “we need to talk.”
luke nods, “is everything okay?” he asks, turning his body to fully face his girlfriend. as sierra is about to begin speaking she is interrupted by ashton, who had his arm around your shoulder. “you all coming?” luke’s eyes land on you, naturally. he sees that you didn’t even bother to look at him, he looked disappointed. “we’ll catch up later.”
luke watches as you disappear over the sand dunes and his eyes finally land on sierra. “what’s up?” he asks, noticing sierras blank expression.
she takes in a long breath, trying to find the right words without hurting his feelings. “i don’t think this is gonna work out.. between us” she confesses, feeling the tears threatening to spill in her eyes. “what..? why..?” asks luke.
“because you don’t love me.”
“what? sierra, i do-“
“no, luke” she cuts him off, smiling softly. “you don’t, and it’s okay.” she takes his hand and holds it softly. “i should’ve known i couldn’t take her place in your heart.” “what..?”
“y/n.” sierra answers, fighting back the tears. “i see the way you look at her, you have that look in your eyes every time they land on her. you love her and you need to admit that to yourself.” and it was true, but luke had tried and thought that he had hid his feelings for you, but he was unsuccessful.
“i can’t be her, i can’t force you to love me, luke.”
“sierra..” he sighs, feeling ashamed.
“luke..look at me” she takes her hands, cupping his chin so he would look at her. “last night, when you came to her rescue i knew in that moment..”
“it’s okay, luke. we just aren’t meant to be. you deserve someone who can make you happy, and she does.”
her thumb caresses his cheek, admiring all of his beauty as a tear slips from her eyes. “i’m sorry that i can’t be the one in your heart.” she presses a kiss on his nose before standing up from her seat, leaving luke alone on the beach that night.
the next morning, your eyes are met with the excruciating pain in your temples as your eyes flutter open, meeting with the sunlight peaking in from the curtains. groaning, you throw your arm over your eyes to try to help with the light and you are reminded why you hated drinking so much.
you heard a few soft knocks at your door, “come in” you announce groggily. calum peeks his head in, “hey, we’re all heading out. you gonna join?” he asks. you remove your arm from your eyes and barely open them. you ask,“what time is it?” and calum laughs quietly . “it’s after five. you’ve slept most of the day.”
you sigh, “i’ll just stay back.” you answer and hear a quiet “okay” from calum as he exits your bedroom, closing the door behind him.
you lie there for a while before eventually getting up to shower, in hopes it would make you feel a little better.
meanwhile, the others had all gone out bowling per the request of michael and ashton even though it was pretty late in the day.
calum wanted to stay back, he hated the idea of going out without you because he knew how bad your hangovers could be but he went, not wanting ashton to third wheel alone.
when they arrived at the bowling alley, it was pretty busy, they found a lane and started a few games. but everyone seemed to be off, calum couldn’t put his finger on it, maybe it was the fact that you weren’t here, or the fact they were all still a tad hungover. so, with only a few games in, they all decided to leave and head back to the rental house to watch a movie and make dinner instead.
when they all arrive back, they do their own thing. crystal and michael head to the patio for a couple of drinks, ashton goes to the living room, calum makes a b-line to the kitchen, sierra goes to her bedroom, and luke attempts to look for you. hoping to clear the air between the two of you.
“wheres y/n?” luke asks, noticing the door to your bedroom was wide open and you were nowhere else to be found. ashton looks around, shrugging as he plops down on the sofa. “maybe she’s at the beach” the drummer suggests. “she didn’t text me.” calum announces from the kitchen, looking for some snacks. luke checks his phone, sending you a message but when you don’t reply he decides to look for you himself.
you sat on the beach, your feet in the cool sand while you were scribbling away in your journal, this whole trip you felt so trapped and so empty. feeling as if you had lost your best friend over something so stupid you tried to push away those feelings, but in doing so you were jeopardizing your friendship with luke and sierra. pushing them out of your life pretty much.
you were so engrossed with your writing, you didn’t even notice the tall blond heading your way.
“there you are!” he announces, jogging to your side. “i was looking everywhere for you!” you look up from your book, seeing luke and immediately shutting it. “well, you found me” you answer, a bit harsher. you hear a sigh from luke, “y/n, are we ever going to talk this out?” he asks, you stand up from the shore and dust the sand off of you. “there’s nothing to talk about, luke.”
actually, there was. you wanted to scream at him, you wanted to pour your heart out and tell him how much you loved him. how your heart aches for him, how your body yearns for his touch.
but you don’t, you simply begin walking off but he stops you. “y/n.” he reaches out and grabs your wrist gently.
“why didn’t you tell me?” he asks, and once you turn around he drops his arms to his side but his look is fierce. he was staring through you. “you left me in the dark, y/n..how was i supposed to know?”
you groan, letting your head fall back. “luke, i’m sorry. okay?” you raise your head and look at him. “and this isn’t all on me, either. you didn’t tell me your feelings either.”
“well who did you think all of those songs we wrote together were about?!” luke asks, raising his voice slightly.
“i don’t know luke! i was too worried that if i said something wrong or if i slipped up i would lose my best friend!” you tell, the pain filled your chest and you felt yourself explode like a shaken soda bottle.
“i was worried that if i made the impression that i even had the slightest crush on you, you’d leave me, luke. you were the one thing in my life that kept me grounded. you were my everything, you were the air in my lungs, my heart was beating for you. so, i’m sorry, luke that i maybe didn’t catch the hint. i was scared.”
luke blinks, his heart racing as you begin spilling out all your thoughts.
“why?” was all he asked.
“because i thought i wasn’t good enough for you, luke. i was never the pretty one, i wasn’t like the other girls. i was always the one who people settled for. and when sierra came into the picture, it was worse. when you started seeing her, i would see the way you looked at her. and it hurt me so bad, lu. because i wanted you to look at me like that, i want you to want me like you want her.” you didn’t even notice the tears flowing down your cheeks.
“what?” in an effort to understand what he had just heard, his blue eyes were filled with devastation . did you really mean what you said? “y/n…did you really feel like that? i made you feel like that?” he feels his heart breaking into small pieces. luke stares at you intently as you speak, he wants to reach out and wrap you in his arms. he wants to take away all your pain, he thinks it’s unfair you have been suffering all this time.
“you’re a rockstar, luke. of course i felt that way, i couldn’t compete with all the girls who threw themselves at you when we were on tour, and then when sierra came into the picture everything just shattered..” you wipe away the tears using the sleeves of your shirt. you had told yourself you didn’t want to break down in front of him like this, but it was inevitable.
you sigh, trying to compose yourself as luke takes a few steps closer, and when his hand touches yours, you feel the wave of sadness hit you again.
“i see the way she looks at you luke, she’s so in love with you and it kills me.” you feel the lump in your throat, and your lip quivers, but you continue. “i can’t stand to be around you two, but i can’t stand to be away from you, because i still love you so much, luke.”
his hand touches your cheek, his thumb wiping away the tears staining your cheek. for a moment, when you look at him you could only wish he was yours. you felt at home when touched you so gingerly, and how his ocean eyes looked over you like you were the only girl in the world.
your hand reaches up, takes his, and removes it from your face. “you two deserve to be together. she loves you luke, i can push my feelings down. i can’t do that to her.” you say, ready to act like this never happened and you would go back to how things were.
abruptly, luke speaks. “she broke up with me.”
your heart sinks, and you feel dizzy. were you hearing things? “what..?” you say, just above a whisper. “last night” he continues, sighing as he did.
“during the bonfire, i guess i..i was staring at you and she went on this rant about how she knows that i love you.” now, you see luke’s eyes brimming with tears. his voice wavers, he sniffles once trying to suppress the tears. “and she’s right, i do love you.” he admits. “luke..i..”
“no. please, just listen to me.” the blond cuts you off, his eyes closing as he takes a deep breath. “i can’t do this anymore, i can’t pretend to love someone else when im still so in love with you.”
luke continues, his hands balled by his side. “i feel so complete with you around, and i can’t take it when you act like we aren’t close. i can’t keep pretending.”
“you are my everything, and it hurts me that i can’t be with you.” his hand is over his heart, feeling the aching feeling he has been living with since that night. “i dream of you, all i do is dream of you. i can’t get you out of my head. so, please don’t push me away. let me love you.”
your mind was racing as you stared at him wide-eyed. unable to process the words he had uttered, “i can’t do this right now..” you take a few steps back, “just..” you shake your head leaving luke stranded on the beach.
luke watches your figure disappear. his chest tightens, thinking he had just lost you for good now. he thinks you blame yourself for his breakup. when you walk away he can’t help but think you hate him more than you already did.
luke sits down in the sand, facing the ocean now. he wants to scream at the horizon, he wants the world, the gods, the universe to know just how much he loves you.
he can’t bare the thought of losing you again.
luke has so much love for you, he knows everything about you. he wants to know the things that maybe you have kept hidden from him. he wants you to want him back. luke wants to make up for all of his mistakes, fix things, and give you the love you deserve.
but, if you don’t feel like that…he would have to respect your decision.
you enter the house, seeing ashton on the sofa with calum with a few beers in their hands. “oh, hey, there you are. luke went looking for you” calum says once you enter the door. “yeah, he found me” you say, setting your book on the table and scanning the room. “wheres sierra?” you ask, ashton looks up from his phone and says, “her bedroom, but she was acting kinda weird today..” you nod, “okay, thanks”
you stand in front of the door and mentally prepare yourself for possibly the worst fight you’d ever have. you knock a few times, “sierra?” you announce letting her know it was you. you heard a soft, “come in” and you twisted the door non letting yourself in.
you see her figure sitting on the twin bed closest to the window, you walk over to sit on the edge and that’s when you notice the tears staining her cheeks.
“sierra..” you say, as you look at her. but she smiles sadly, “i’m not mad at you, if that’s the reason your here” her voice was cracking and it was very obvious she had been crying for some time. “i..” you start, handing your head. “i’m so sorry.” you mutter, feeling your lip quiver.
you had been crying most of this trip. you wish you could just get a grip and stop acting so childish.
“stop..” she says reaching for your hand. “it’s okay, i knew. i’ve known it since the beginning. i knew what i was getting myself into. but…it still hurts.” you nod, wrapping your arms around her. “i never wanted this to happen.” you sigh, feeling her arms pat your back. “i know, i don’t blame you…” she says quietly. sierra knows she couldn’t take away what the two of you had. she had to be smart and realize if she continued the relationship she would only hurt herself in the future. she couldn’t lie to herself when the truth was right in front of her.
“y/n, what you two have is real. it’s more than what we had, i can’t pretend to be you and i can’t make him love me like he loves you. i want the both of you happy, and if me cutting things off with him i’ll do it.” she says, and pulls back to look at you. “you’re my best friend, i don’t want this to ruin us, okay?” she adds, and you nod. “did he tell you how he felt?” you nod again, a laugh escaping your lips. “andddd?” she drawls, smiling. “i left him on the beach”
“y/n!” she playfully hits your arm, “please, go get that man before you lose him again” she demands, pushing you off the bed. “go!” you laugh and exit the bedroom.
luke sits on the beach, watching the waves crash onto the sand. he wonders if he just lost everything in less than twenty-four hours. he wonders where he went wrong, how he let you slip away, why he wasn’t honest with you…or himself. luke is pissed at himself because maybe, just maybe, if he had been more open with his feelings and emotions maybe this wouldn’t have happened.
he is racking his brain for the right words to say to fix what he had messed up so badly.
“luke” you say, pulling him out of his deep thought. he looks up, his eyes landing on your figure. he feels a warmth in his chest, but he doesn’t get his hopes up. “you came back?”
you nod, as you sit down next to him. “of course, i did.” you say, looking out at the ocean.
“y/n, im sorry. i didn’t mean for all of that to just spill out, i-“ you turn to him, stopping him as he tried explaining himself. “dont” you shake your head.
“just hold me, please.”
time passed quicker than you wanted it to. you sit between luke’s legs, his arms wrapped around your waist and his head resting against your shoulders. you both wanted to watch the sunset since it was your last full night there. neither you nor luke said anything since you came back. you were simply just enjoying each other's company.
“lu?”
“hmm?”
“when did you realize you love me?”
luke thinks for a moment, he recalls the last show of their first headlining tour. he remembers the outfit you wore for your set and he remembers that in that moment is when he first realized his feelings for you.
“do you remember our first headlining tour?” you nod, your eyes still on the ocean. “i do..” luke smiles, “that’s when. i remember seeing your face on that stage and everything shifted..” he answered.
you smile to yourself, recalling that night. you were on cloud nine, you remember the hug and how much you loved being in luke’s arms, just like you were now. “you there?” he whispers. you nod, “i am. just..reminiscing.”
luke pulls you closer, and he squeezes you, afraid to lose you again. he traces soft circles on your arms as he gets lost in thought.
“you there?” you chuckle, and you feel him nod against your shoulder.
“i just… i don’t want to lose you again. i don’t want to mess up this again. please let me make this right between us..” he says.
“lu, i love you. and that’s why i came back. i want us to work out…i want…us..” you speak quietly, the ocean crashing on the shore is in the background.
luke presses a kiss on your neck then, your cheek and finally, your lips. “i promise, y/n. i’ll give you the life you deserve and we will have the best years, together.”

"are u on your way?"
"be there in 5"
I tossed my phone to my side, sitting on my bed impatiently for Luke's arrival. A cheeky grin took over my face at his text, making me cover my face in childlike excitement. I had been seeing Luke in secret for a couple weeks, "secret" because he's my brother Ashton's best friend. Luke and I knew our scandalous meetings would put a ripple in mine and Ashton, and his and Ashton's relationships, so instead of doing the right thing and calling our rendezvous' quits, we kept it our little secret.
A ding from my phone indicated Luke's arrival, I jolted from my position on my bed, reading that he was outside. I swiftly made my way to the front door, greeted by Luke's smug grin.
"Hi, beautiful." He spoke, moving in closer and placing two hands on my hips. He was dressed in a casual white button up, leaving his usual 3 top buttons undone, paired with black pants. He leant down and connected our lips for a deep kiss. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach at his touch.
I stepped back to let him in, closing the door behind me. Before I could speak, Luke abruptly pushed me against the wall by my hips, pressing himself against me roughly. I gasped at his sudden movements, however his dominance sent a shiver throughout my body. Luke reconnected our lips, only the kiss being rougher. His tongue danced with mine adoringly, making me melt under him.
Luke swiftly placed his hands under my thighs, lifting my around his waist effortlessly and carrying me to my room, where we most frequented. I giggled at his eagerness, his grip on my thighs tightening. Arriving to my bedroom, Luke tossed me on the bed to my back, towering over me. I sat up, propping myself back on my arms. Luke moved in closer, his legs hitting the bed. He brought his hand down to my face, rubbing his thumb against my cheek.
"My pretty girl." He cooed. I smiled, blushing uncontrollably at his words. I glanced down to Luke's already bulging pants, my heat growing wetter at his arousal. His thumb traces over lips, his breathing becoming unsteady. I opened my mouth slightly, inviting his wandering thumb inside.
"That's a good girl." He chuckled softly, pushing his thumb slowly inside my mouth. I wrapped my lips around his finger, looking up at him through my eyelashes. Luke let out a sigh before removing his thumb.
"Take these off, baby." He muttered deeply, assisting my in removing my t-shirt. I giggled, swiftly throwing off my sweatpants as well, leaving me in my bra and underwear.
"Get on all fours." He commanded, his eyes watching his hands undo the buckle on his pants. I readjusted my position, resting on my hands and sitting on my knees.
Luke pulled down his pants slightly, only to reveal his pulsating shaft. I leaned in closer, gazing upon the sigh before me. Luke looked down with his member in hand, the top of my head in the other. I looked up at him, opening my mouth and slightly sticking my tongue out, inviting his eager cock inside. Luke let out a breath before pushing his shaft in my mouth, thrusting to the back of my throat.
"Fuck." He groaned under his breath. He kept two hands on my head, and began so thrust into my throat at a progressing rhythm. iI coughed and choked at his cock repeatedly hitting the back of my throat, making him chuckle. Tears began to pool at the corners of my eyes, smearing my mascara.
"You like getting throat fucked like a slut, baby?" He growled, vigorously pumping his cock in and out of my tight throat. I reached a desperate hand out and placed it on his thigh, digging my nails into his skin. He pulled out swiftly looking down at me deeply. I smiled lazily, makeup and saliva running down my face. Luke smiled smugly, placing and tapping his slick member on my lips.
"Such a good girl." He spoke deeply. Luke took a look behind us to my full sized mirror beside my closet, looking back to me. He quickly placed a hand at the back of my neck, guiding me off the bed and to my knees in front of the mirror. I looked up in front of me, wiping my face, to see me bent over on my elbows, ass up. Luke positioned behind me looking in my eyes intimidatingly. He unbuttoned his top all the way, but left it on. I watched his every move in the mirror, gathering my thoughts after his foreplay.
Luke roughly pulled my underwear around my knees, placing a hard smack followed my a rough grope against my bare cheek. I let out a pleasureful whimper at the sting, curling my toes.
"You like getting teased like my good little slut?" He teased, running his tip up and down my folds. I squirmed at the feeling of him against my dripping slit, whimpering in response.
"I can't hear you, doll." He spoke deeply while looking at me in the mirror , pushing his tip in ever so slightly before pulling back out. I arched my back in desperation, letting out another whine.
"Luke, please. Fuck me." I whined lazily. He chuckled softly, pushing into me abruptly. I gasped at his entrance as he quickly picked up his pace. Luke's fingers dug deep into my sides, ramming into my slick cunt repeatedly. Luke reached down and grabbed a handful of my hair, pulling my head up to look at him in the mirror. He leaned down slightly to speak.
"Look how pretty you are taking my cock." He growled deeply, smirking with a heavy breath. His hips flexed as they met my red sore cheeks fast and hard.
"Mm.. Fuck, Luke." I whined between thrusts, gripping at the carpet. Luke chuckled, pulling out abruptly. I let out a whine before he quickly flipped me to my back, reinserting himself swiftly. I let out a squeal at his reentrance, his hand now coming to connect with my neck. His fingers gripped tightly around my throat, making my eyes roll back into my head. Luke let out a groan, watching us connect and reconnect below him.
"You're so fucking tight around me, princess." He growled, picking up his pace once more. I bit my lip as I felt my climax approach, shaking under Luke. I grabbed his wrist connected to my hand, squeezing tightly as my walls convulsed around him.
"Not yet." He muttered. I whined and squirmed at his words in frustration. He swiftly brought a thumb down to my clit, rubbing circles quickly. I lolled my head to the side, letting out a squeal. I looked back up at Luke with despair.
"Use you words, baby." He smirked. I whimpered before speaking.
"Please, Luke. I need to cum." I whimpered between breaths, trying to hold myself together for him.
"That's my good girl." He growled, continuing his fast pace, "Cum for me, baby." He spoke deeply. Electricity shot through my body as I released around Luke, my eyes rolling back. He continued his pace for a few moments before releasing into my torso with a series of groans and curses. I breathed heavily as Luke's head fell in exhaustion, holding himself up with his hands on each side of me.
"You okay?" He confirmed with a dramatic thumbs up, as he does. I giggled, exchanging the thumbs up. He reached for a dirty towel in my hamper, wiping my torso clean of his mess. We laid in a comfortable silence on my floor, before we were interrupted by a seemingly upset series of repeated knocks on my front door. Luke and I exchanged confused looks before my phone began to ring. I swiftly moved to my bed to see Ashton's name and contact photo being the caller. My eyes widened and I looked to Luke quickly, flashing him the phone. I put a finger to my lip to warn him to stay quiet before answering.
"Hey." I spoke smoothly. Luke watched cautiously.
"Hey!" Ashton cheers very obviously sarcastically and fed up. "I've been knocking for 15 minutes." He continued, returning to his blunt tone. My eyes widened and I looked to Luke, motioning silently for him to get dressed. He looked at me confused.
"He's outside." I mouthed silently. Luke's returned the shocked expression before quickly joining my in gathering our clothes.
"Oh, my bad." I spoke with a forced giggle as I put Ashton on speaker, "I was in the shower." I lied, frantically getting dressed.
"Whatever, let me in." Ashton finished and hung up. I tossed my phone to my bed. I let out a breath before Luke spoke.
"Where do I go." He whispered anxiously. I bit my cheek, heading to my bedroom door.
"I don't know. Hold on." I muttered and exited my room.
I picked at my fingers as I reached for my front door, revealing an unamused Ashton. He took a step to come in, but an impulsive reaction caused me to step in front of him, blocking his way.
"What's are you doing." He muttered in an annoyed tone. I tried quickly to think of something to get Luke out and Ashton in, but Luke decided to make that harder for the both of us. I watched Ashton's eyes as they landed behind me, his eyebrows furrowing and his eyes narrowing.
"Why...?" He began, turning his head in confusion. I turned around to see a stunned Luke. He let out a forced laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
"Heyyy." Luke dragged out, glancing at me quickly. I sighed at his pathetic attempt at staying cool. Ashton pushed his way past me, walking towards Luke, who had one sock on, one sock in hand, an unbuttoned top, and messy hair.
"Why are you here?" Ashton questioned boldly, looking him up and down. Luke looked at me and then back to Ashton.
"Uhm... Y/n needed help.. With something." He began hesitating. Ashton raised his head in amusement, not buying Luke's lie.
"Why didn't she just call me?" He asked, crossing his arms, now noticing my smeared makeup.
"Because it's something for you." I chirped in, "It's something I had to plan without you, a surprise." I giggled anxiously. Ashton looked to me, then to Luke.
"You need to leave." He muttered to Luke, becoming increasingly aware of what was going on. Luke glanced to me quickly before grabbing his shoes and heading for the door. Ashton brushed his shoulder roughly on the way out, making Luke and his catch each others eyes briefly. Luke looked down with embarrassment before walking out the door. Ashton turned back to me, rubbing his eyes in annoyance.
"We need to talk.".

I KNOW LOVE | L.R.H

Summary: Luke and afab!model!reader get together after months of pinning.
CW//TW: slight mention of past toxic relationship(s), kissing, making out, slight angst, mostly fluff
Pairing: Luke Hemmings x afab!model!reader
Word Count: 900+
PSA: This fic was inspired by Tate McRaes new song “I know love” !! The events in the story follow the lyrics :)
This is my first fic on here! Let me know if you guys want more <3
(NOT PROOF READ)
She didn’t know when or how it happened, but it did.
It started with her posting some photos from a magazine shoot she had done with Elle a few months back, sitting on her couch as she mindlessly scrolled through the comments and notifications.
It was all normal, regular reactions, some negative, some positive, but one like caught her attention.
“@lukehemmings liked your photo”
She froze, a small smile washing over her face as she refreshed her feed to see if it was real.
That’s when she got a message from an unknown number. Furrowing her brows, she clicked on it.
(xxx): No lie, girl, you lookin' sexy on the magazine, but what you doin' after the photos?
(xxx): Also it’s Luke! As in Luke Hemmings, I hope you don’t mind that I asked a mutual friend for your number :P
Her jaw dropped slightly, smiling softly at his message. It looked to her that she’d soon be in the covers with him, this time practicing a new kind of ‘promo’.
Though, she was hurt in the past. she didn’t know if she was ready to commit again. Sure, Luke was hot, they’ve crossed paths at award shows here and there, but she didn’t know if she was ready. Still, her heart got the best of her and she sent him back a message.
(Y/N): Baby, if you want, I'll give you something you can hold on, you can feel for now
She bit her lip, leaning back on her couch before following it up.
(Y/N): but you only got me right now.
Nearly a week later, they met properly. No side waves, no smiles from across the stadium. No, it was just them. And the minute they began talking, they knew. Their bond grew instantly, knowing they had mutual feelings but it being too early in their friendship to act on them. So, they settled for being friends.
Now, neither of them were new to the feelings of love, however they didn’t realize how hard true love actually hit, when it feels like a punch to the gut, it’s a little like drugs.
Easily within the first month of them being friends, they both were sick in the stomach, down on their knees, absolutely fucked up falling for each other.
As mentioned, they knew love could hit harder than any force on the earth, but not as hard as they expected.
A few months into them talking and becoming closer , they had an event in Mexico both had to attend. The moment they arrived in Mexico, they obviously started off as friends.
However, as the days in Mexico dragged on, their friendship grew into something more. Something vulnerable, something valuable.
So, one night in Luke’s hotel room, him sat back against the wooden headboard as she laid on her stomach, phone in hand as she scrolled. He took a deep breath, steadying himself before he spoke,
“You’re my type.”
She paused what she was doing, placing her phone to her side before sitting up on the bed, speaking,
“Luke, I-“ she paused to collect her thoughts. “You’re mine too, but I don’t know if I can.” She hesitated, unsure of how to word things. “I mean, I want you, I really fucking do! I’m just..” She paused, looking down at her hands.
“You’re scared.” Luke finished for her i’m a soft and understanding tone which made her look up at him and nod. “You know I’d never hurt you, right?”
“Obviously,” she laughed softly, sighing as she looked up at him. “I just.. I don’t know, I get this feeling like it- us, we won’t last long if we do get together.” She explained.
Luke sighed before placing a hand on her knee gently, rubbing his thumb into it soothingly.
“Look, it may not work out, but it also might. Just please, even if it’s a quick thing, I want you, I need you.” He told her genuinely, a hand moving to her shoulder. “Stop acting like you’re tough and let your guard down.”
Those words hit her right where they needed to. Filling her with a sense of hope she lacked, despite her own struggles and fears falling in love again.
“Okay.” She agreed, nodding her head gently, much to her own surprise. She felt this connection with Luke she’d never felt before, one where she could be herself, talk without guilt, and feel wanted.
“Really?” He asked, wide eyed. he took her hand in his own. As a reply, she nodded and squeezed his hand.
They remained gazing at each other, happy smiles gracing both of their faces. Neither knew was to do. so, she laughed softly.
Luke, noticing her unsure demeanour found it endearing and took it as a chance to connected his lips to her soft, plump ones.
The kiss was sweet, slow, and caring. It was as if he was kissing her to remember what it was like to do so, his tongue exploring the surface of her lips before prodding her lips with the tip of his tongue, asking for entrance.
When she granted his tongue free roam in her mouth, her hands found the back of her neck, gently running her fingers through his slight messy and knotted curls. She let him explore her mouth, his kiss taking her breath away. It was all she’d dreamt of, and now she had it. She had him.
They both could tell love when it hit, and it finally hit. Fucked up, falling on their knees for one another, entangled in each other’s limbs. Safe and happy. The “It’ll be quick” soon turned into twelve months. That’s when they knew.
They finally knew what love was.
“We started off friends, how we end up here? I don't know, but I don't see no problems. We started off friends, how you end up here next to me? (Honestly, this shit is crazy) I said, "You my type," out in Mexico tonight. You said it was gon' be quick, now we're twelve months in, so, everybody needs somebody they can hold down (Mm, yeah). Girl, stop actin' like you're tough and let your guard down” - I Know Love by Tate McRae featuring Kid LAROI

Fireplace
Flames flicker,
whispering heat—
burning, burning—
faster, harder—
embers hum with warning.
Danger. Danger.
Don't get too close.
But I do.
I always do.
Hands reach,
logs replaced—
repeat.
Burning,
burning,
faster, harder—
the heat presses in.
It burns, of course.
It always does.
Danger. Danger.
Stay away.
But I don’t.
I never do.
Repeat.
Again.
And again.
Until the fire dies,
leaving only ash.
And there I stand, alone,
tending to the burns that never seem to heal.
The cycle begins anew,
as I gather more wood,
knowing the danger,
yet craving the fire.
Always craving the fire.

‘Lover is a day’ by Cuco (4/4 Preference)

youtube
Summary: Stories with your fav based on the song 'Lover is a day' by Cuco (Requested) (Words: 2.2k)
Ashton (His POV)
“Lovely day today, perfect time to open up to you. But I know you’re having fun wouldn’t wanna mess this up for you. But I’m happy that you’re happy and at least I do that much for you. Always glad you’re with me this emotion will be gone before you know.”
“Are you ready, love?” (Y/N) asks me, placing her hand softly on my back. I feel startled, gasping under her touch, even though it could be compared to being grazed by a feather. “Did I scare you? I am so sorry, thought you heard me when I called your name.” (Y/N) apologizes, smiling at me as I turn to look at her. She stares at me softly, a smile curling her lips up, which only makes me mirror it, the contagiousness of it never fails to affect me. “I was just thinking… Don’t worry about it.” I mumble, leaning in to press a kiss on her forehead. “Thinking about what?” She asks, a playful smirk appearing on her lips. “Thinking about which road we should take to get to the beach faster…” I reply, picking up the bag with our beach stuff.
“If you really think about it, this is our first road trip together… Even if it is a mini one.” (Y/N) murmurs, scrolling through her playlist as I drive us out of town. “Complaining?” I ask her, heart fluttering in my chest at the thought of disappointing her, or letting boredom penetrate into our relationship. “No, just saying…” She chirps, leaning her head against my shoulder. I take my eyes off the road for a split second, just to take a look at her; the way the sun hits her skin, the way her smile changes her face into a soft, almost childish look, the way she looks so calm, so warm…
“Let’s find a secluded place. Let it be just me and you for a moment.” I suggest, craving a moment of privacy with her, craving having the chance of having a real word with her, without fearing whether we will be seen or heard, or attract attention on us. “Sounds dreamy…” She replies, pecking on my arm softly. I set the stuff in the sand, laying the towels down and stripping out of my clothes. (Y/N) runs straight to the water, her little sundress flowing behind as she skips happily into the ocean. The fabric sticks to her skin, gluing on her body but she still lets the waves crash on her body and she still beams with happiness.
I yearned for the minute it would be me and her, and I could finally open up to her, spill the words that are eating my mind, tell her everything I have in my brain. But I would be damned if I ruined her joy but crashing her under the weight of all the thoughts in my head. So, I just keep my mouth shut, dropping my clothes in the bag and walking to her, pulling her into a hug as she giggles. “And I was just about to ask you if you’d join me…” She chuckles, grazing her fingers softly under my jaw. “I just need a moment… I just needed a moment to soak you in and all the happiness you radiate…” I murmur and she hums softly. “The happiness won’t go away, you have time to soak it in…” She replies, standing on her toes and planting a kiss on my lips. Oh, baby… Happiness is nothing but a loan.
Calum
Furthering my distance from you. Realistically, I can’t leave now. But I am okay as long as you keep me from going crazy.
My keys jingle as I try to unlock the door, making me curse myself for making a sound. It is well past 2 in the morning, she is probably fast asleep long ago; knowing her routine, she has less than 4 hours to get up and get ready for work.
I don’t know why I kept myself out of the house for so many hours. I was supposed to be back and have a date night with her at 9, give her the attention she has been asking me for so long.
I find the lights open when I enter the house, making my breath hitch to the back of my throat. I know that this is enough for us to pick up a fight; honestly, being out of reach for so many hours would be reason enough for anyone to justly pick up a fight.
I leave my keys on the little counter by the door as quietly as I can. Walking inside the living room, I feel my body giving up, suddenly becoming a bit too tired to function. She is laying on the couch, only her robe covering her body, protecting her from the breeze entering the window in this Californian night. A glass of wine is resting on the floor by her, half-empty and with her fingers touching the bubble. Her face is still covered with makeup, her dark red lipstick smudged to the side of her mouth, probably staining the sleeve of her garment as her hand is supporting her head.
I feel my shoulders dropping, the breath I was holding finally coming out of my lungs as I take the sight; there is not a single doubt that she still feels like home to me, the familiar warmth that is spreading in my guts feeling too comforting for me to quit her just yet. But the feeling of this home has been fading, little by little.
The place where it is supposed to consist of me and her, just us, suddenly feeling overcrowded.
But the familiarity of it is the last bit of sanity I have left, making me crave it like an addict.
I pick up the glass from the floor and take it to the kitchen, spilling the remains of the booze down the drain. I take a deep breath, my hand going straight to my temples and rubbing them to fight the headache that has started forming, making my head feel like it is throbbing.
I release a huff before I drag my feet to the living room, leaning down to pick her up. She deserves to sleep on a bed, she deserves to rest, she deserves everything I can offer, but there is not much I have left for her.
Luke
Time changed We’re different But my mind still says redundant things Can I not think?
Stumbling at her doorstep at midnight, all I wish for is for her to open the door. My hands are in my pockets, face flushed and a heartbeat that echos like a drum inside my chest, but my mind keeps screaming at me to get to her, see her once more. I press my finger on the doorbell, praying she will open her door; honestly, I know that if I was her, I wouldn’t want to hear another word, but I hoping that her heart is still as big as I was when we were together. The door opens hesitantly, only a small gap from the frame to the actual door letting her peek at me. “Luke?” She asks, as if she is trying to realize what is going on. “Can I come in?” I ask, twisting my fingers as I feel nervousness wash all over me. She doesn’t let a word out, only stares at me and sighs before moving away and allowing me to get in.
I look around me, her house feeling cold, just as her presence around me. “Luke, what are you doing here?” She asks, already sounding done with me. “I wanted to see you.” I turn to look at her, sniffling as she stares at me blankly. “I think you should leave, Luke. This is not good, for neither of us. And please, just… leave me alone… We broke up.” She lets out, pointing to her door. I shift my gaze between her and the exit and decide to plant my feet where I am standing and just speak out of my heart, tell her everything that dances in my mind. “I know that, I know we broke up. And I want you to know that not seeing you is not good for me, so I guess seeing you can’t be worse than that. I have been going through every moment that led to our break up, every little detail, up until the point you said those words. And honestly, I don’t know why you and I couldn’t make it past the problems… I don’t know how we came to that. It tears me apart, laying in an empty bed every night and just imagining how things could have gone a different way. It’s always been you and I, since the very beginning, and I hate that I have to be in a world where I have to leave without you. So, please, don’t tell me that seeing you is not good for me. Please, don’t ask me to leave when all I want is to stay.” I let the words out of my mouth, shaking as I try to put them in order, make a sense out of what I am trying to tell her.
“You and I, Luke… We are not the same anymore. We are not who we were when we got together. I looked at you and all I saw was a stranger. I tried to blame it on the years that went by, on the fame that has been a part of you all of a sudden and how it changed you… But it was more than that. Luke, I am different too. I am not the same person as I was in the beginning, I barely recognize myself. And the person I have become really can’t be with the person you have turned into. So just, just go. The more you think about me, the more you see me, the harder it gets. Please, go, move on. You have a great life, great friends, a great career. Soon you will have a great special someone, who is going to take away the memory of me and you. Please, Luke. Don’t go through the trauma of that night all over again.” She states, moving to the door and opening it for me. For a moment, I beg myself to stay there, remain motionless. But seeing her look at me, pleading me to leave her house, makes me drag my feet across the floor toward the door.
I lean down pressing a kiss on her forehead. “Take care.” I whisper before walking through the door. “You too.” She replies, seconds before she shuts the door.
Michael
Cause you immediate presence lifts me straight away from hell Me & Mr. Heart, we say the cutest things about you How you seem unreal and we’d probably die so quick without you Suffocated from the radiated air around us.
Holy fuck, look at her… She is the most gorgeous being in the whole entire world. Nothing else has any meaning right now, but her. She glows, radiating enough light to power the whole room. And the way her dress flows behind her, the way her hair would make any angel jealous. Fuck, I can’t wait for her to be mine, to hold and love for the rest of my life. She finally reaches the end of the aisle, stopping for a moment and smiling at me. I am too scared to move, the fear of this being just a dream that I will wake up from if I move too suddenly turning me into a stone.
She walks up the few steps that lead to me, and I swear to God, I’ve never felt the urge to kiss her this badly ever before. “You look… Freaking breathtaking…” I gasp, taking her hands in mine. “You don’t look that bad yourself as well.” She giggles, biting her bottom lip. “Are you ready?” The ordain asks us, making both of us nod in unison, my heart beating excitedly for what is about to happen.
“Friends, family, loved ones. We gathered here today to celebrate the love of two young people. Seeing them together, experiencing their true, unique love, brings me a loss of words. So, I was more than relieved when they asked me to let them do all the talking, speak from their hearts. It is my pleasure and privilege to let this amazing couple take the spotlight.” The ordain smiles at us, gesturing for me to speak up.
"My love... I have been waiting for this day since the day I met you. The first time I saw you, my heart fluttered, I felt warm and fuzzy, I felt like I was in a trance. I have been craving you ever since, I think my life has gotten more complete since you have gotten into it. You have this magical power, this magic force that dwells within you that no matter what I am going through, no matter how bad things are, you lift me up, you make me feel a hundred times better. God, I don't know how you can be so positive, so loving, so amazing... I love you with every fiber of my being, and I vow to keep on loving you, keep on being your number 1 fan until the end of time. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you, my angel." I finish off, bringing her hand to my lips, smiling at her as she seems a little too emotional, almost about to cry.

stormy fears & feelings (l.r.h)
a/n: hey everyone! here’s “stormy fears & feelings”, this is a nonfamous au with roommate!luke. (unedited as usual) this was really fun to write, i intended for it to be short and sweet but i ended up writing for longer than i had originally planned. anyway, i hope you enjoy and are having a great day/night/whatever. i appreciate any and all feedback, and as always my messages are always if you want to chat or anything :) thank youuuu - emmy <33
pairing: roommate!luke hemmings x fem!reader
summary: a thunderstorm leaves you awake and scared, and going to your standoffish roommate, who you happen to have an extremely inconvenient crush on for comfort may be your only option to get a good night of sleep.
warning(s): cursing, extremely minor injury, minor angst if you squint
word count: 5k

It really was an awful idea. In any other case it wouldn’t have even crossed your mind, but you had been on edge all week for no specific reason and thunderstorms had always spooked you.
The storm had started unexpectedly. If you had known earlier you would have ran to the store to buy Nyquil before going to bed, but with it sneaking up on you, you were huddled under your blankets, eyes squeezed impossibly tight in hopes to drown out the loud crashes and blinding flares of light flooding your bedroom window.
When the thought originally passed through your head it was more of an internal sarcastic remark than a possible solution.
I mean, you had been living with your roommate, Luke for over 4 months now, but you weren’t really friends. You would occasionally chat with him if you were both up and about around the apartment, which was pretty rare seeing as Luke seemed to avoid you for the most part. Hurrying out of a room when you entered, ending conversations quickly, and always being conveniently busy when you had attempted to make plans to get to know each other better. Your living arrangement had only come to be because you had heard through a friend he was looking for a roommate at the same time that you had happened to be on the lookout for a new place. Your relationship consisted mainly of half-hearted greetings and subtle avoidances of each other. So, going to him for comfort wasn’t a viable option to soothe your nerves.
Even if you did, what would you expect him to do?
Sit up with you? No, not when you knew he had to wake up early for work.
Talk you down? He wouldn’t even know what to say in the first place, your typical conversations were made up of checking if there was still coffee, or deciding whose turn it was to do the dishes.
Offer up a space in his bed? Absolutely not. That was the most unthinkable of them all. If it wasn’t for the fact that Luke had always seemed pretty adamant with his personal space, sometimes tensing up if you even sat too close to him on the couch. Your annoying and inconvenient crush that had started the day you moved in, just wouldn’t allow the two of you to be in such close quarters without your heart racing and your head dizzying.
It was out of the question, end of discussion.
With that being said it only took one more boom of thunder to have you shoot up from your bed and pad quietly into the hallway, with fuzzy sock clad feet and a large quilt wrapped tightly around your shoulders.
You stared at his bedroom door hesitantly until the next strike, during which you knocked ever so lightly and muttered a soft,
“Luke,”
After a minute and no reply you resorted to giving up on your plan and heading to the kitchen to drink a cup of tea, in hopes it may help. The idea was good enough, but you had failed to consider the noise that comes along with it. And as if the whistling of the kettle and clattering of the mugs wasn’t enough, the next roar of thunder sent you into a shock causing you to stub your toe on the corner of the cabinet and let out a pained yelp. You quickly slapped a hand over your mouth and sunk to the floor to assess the damage as you heard rustling and a door opening from the hall.
Luke was in the kitchen in a matter of seconds, his long legs carrying him there within just a few steps. He hit a light switch, causing the kitchen to glow a dim yellow.
“Y/n, you alright?” he grumbled, rubbing sleep from his eyes as he approached your crouched position on the floor.
“Yea, yea I’m okay. Sorry, I woke you up.” you responded, mentally kicking yourself for causing such a disruption.
“S’alright. What’s goin’ on? Why are you up?” he spoke, offering you a hand to pull yourself up.
You accepted it, trying your hardest to ignore how warm it felt, and how easily it enveloped your own as you returned to your feet.
“Uh, I just had a hankering for chamomile.” you lied. You really should’ve thought this through. Now that he was standing in front of you, admitting your fear of thunderstorms seemed daunting. You were an adult for chrissakes, an adult that was left shaking at the mere thought of a considerably common weather phenomenon.
His eyebrows tugged in confusion as he glanced between you and the kettle.
“Did you knock at my door a couple minutes ago?” he questioned as you watched the window over the sink nervously.
Your eyebrows raised a bit at the inquiry.
“Thought I heard something, but then I figured I must’ve just imagined it. Y’know, woken myself up.” he continued.
“Um, yep that was me.” you admitted, turning your back to him in hopes to hide your embarrassment.
“So, was there a reason, or?”
“Right, yea a reason.” you paused, searching for an excuse in your drowsy and distracted brain. “I wondered if you wanted a cup.”
“In the middle of the night?” your subconscious deadpanned as your face scrunched in displeasure.
You turned back around to face him, holding a mug out for him.
Confusion and a glint of amusement was painted across his features as he spoke,
“You wanted to know if I wanted a cup of tea,” he peeked at the clock behind you. “at 2:30 in the morning?”
As you opened your mouth to defend your admittedly bad excuse another crash of thunder rumbled from the sky, causing your body to jump in fear and your hand to release its grip on the ceramic mug. Luke took a step back just in time as it shattered to pieces on the floor.
You brought two shaky hands to your face and pressed yourself against the cabinet, cowering as far back as possible.
“Hey, s’okay. It’s just thunder.” Luke said, placing a hand on your shoulder.
You peeked out through your hands before dropping them from your face all together.
Realization sparked on his face as your eyes met his.
“Are you afraid of thunderstorms?” Despite his tone being soft, sweet even, you were sure he was making fun of you.
“I-uh, no. No I’m not.” you rushed out, attempting to push past him and scurry into your bedroom.
“Y/n, the glass.” he warned, his grip on your shoulder tightened, not allowing you to move.
“Was that why you knocked earlier?”
You nodded, hesitantly your eyes dropping to the floor.
“I don’t know why, I just- thunderstorms have freaked me out since I was little and I normally would take something to help me fall asleep, but I didn’t have anything and...I shouldn’t even have tried to wake you up in the first place, there’s nothing you could do and we aren’t even friends or anything. Probably don’t even like me, I mean you can hardly even stand to be in the same room as me. Anyways I’ll be fine, lemme clean this up and then i’ll just head to my ro-” you rambled, not even pausing to take a breath.
“You think I don’t like you?” he interrupted.
Fuck. Was the scare so intense oxygen had been cut off from your brain? Why would you say all that? He didn’t need to know that you took notice of the fact that he avoided your company like the plague.
Instead of responding you opted for grabbing the dustpan, the sooner the floor was clean the sooner you could get back to your room. Where you would sit awake in fear, by yourself for the rest of the night, no doubt replaying this embarrassing interaction over and over again.
Luke stood seemingly frozen as you kneeled down beside him attempting to gather the broken shards, which was proving to be difficult with such shaky hands.
With another bolt of lightening your hand shuddered and slipped from the brush, hitting a shard and slicing a thin cut on the pad of your pointer finger.
“Shit” you hissed, dropping the dustpan to examine the tiny gash.
Luke’s head snapped in your direction, eyes immediately filling with concern.
“Ow” you whined quietly.
He dropped down next to you and took the finger into his hands.
“You should clean this out, I’ll finish this up.” he nodded to the remaining glass.
“I can get it.” you protested. “You should get to bed, you have to work tomorrow.” you continued, making your way to the sink.
“So do you.” he responded flatly, already finishing up cleaning as you looked around for a band aid. When you finally located the box of bandages Luke was behind you.
“Lemme see.” he said, taking one from the box while he examined your finger.
You watched his face intently as he carefully wrapped your cut with squinted eyes and a small pout.
You had never seen Luke during the night. There was a certain softness to him that was completely foreign to you, one that made the thought of cuddling into him seem far too appealing for your liking.
“I do like you, y/n.” he broke you out of your thoughts, uttering it so quietly you thought you may have imagined it.
You nodded in acknowledgement, not knowing how to respond without further embarrassing yourself.
“I’m sorry I made you think I didn’t”
At this point he had finished bandaging you up which made the fact that he was still standing a mere inches apart from you with his hand wrapped around yours, all the more affecting.
“M’sorry I even brought it up, I’m just tired cause of the storm, and apparently I lose a filter with no sleep.”
His hand lightly squeezed yours as you spoke, and the butterflies that erupted in your stomach as he did so told you it was time to go back to your room. You gingerly tugged your hand away, ignoring the way Luke’s expression faltered when you did.
“I’m sorry again, about all of this. You should get some sleep.”
“Will you be able to?”
“I’ll be fine, one night of lost sleep is hardly the end of the world.” you responded, taking a step towards the hallway. Luke caught your arm before you got far.
“Yea, but you lose your filter when you're tired, you said it yourself.” A small grin grew on his face as he continued. “Can’t have you spilling all your secrets tomorrow.”
Was he joking around with you?
Before you could stop it, a pleased smile appeared on your face. This was new. You didn’t even know he had a sense of humor, he had never attempted to share it with you before.
“I’m sure I can control myself.” you returned, attempting to go once more. Of course, his voice stopped your movements within a second.
“Y/n, let me help. How can I help?”
The plausible reasoning for his sudden generosity was that he was feeling guilty or maybe even embarrassed that you were under the impression he didn’t like you. But that didn’t stop your entire body to warm at the offer.
“There’s really not much to do.” you started. “I think the only reason I knocked in the first place is because I’m used to having some company when I get scared. Big family, y’know there was never a shortage of beds I could crawl into.”
“Company!” he repeated, eyes lit up. “I can do that. I have it on very good authority that I’m an excellent cuddler.”
Your body froze at his words. He couldn’t be serious, right? There’s no way he had any interest in that, even if it was just for your sake.
He must’ve noticed your tenseness at the proposition because before you got a chance to respond, a bright red blush overtook his cheeks and he squeaked out,
“Or the floor, I could always take the floor. I mean company can be just my presence in the room, I guess. If you want.”
“No. I mean-um, I could go for a cuddle.” you heart answered before your brain got the chance to interfere.
He smiled at you warmly.
“Alright then.”
You had never been into Luke’s room before, I mean not really. Sometimes you would sit his laptop in there if he had left it out or lay a sweatshirt of his on the foot of the bed but you had never actually been inside. It was slightly messy, there was a pile of clean, unfolded laundry on a desk chair, and a few empty water bottles scattered around but for the most part it was clean. On his bed the blankets were strewn about from where he must’ve been sleeping earlier, a pile of pillows stacked high on the right side, and it could’ve just been how tired you were but you had never wanted to crawl into a bed more.
“I like your room.” you whispered, as he spread the pillows out more evenly across the top of the mattress.
“Why’re we whispering?”
“It’s nighttime.”
“Y/n, we’re the only people who live here and we’re both awake.” he teased, laughing while shaking his head.
“Oh, right.”
He gestured a hand to the bed, “Ladies first.”
Hesitantly you sat, your back pressed against the mound of pillows Luke had compiled for you, shortly after he took a seat next to you, leaving a few inches of space between your legs. You looked down to your lap, aware of how awkward of a position the two of you were in, neither knowing how to go about this. Luke spoke first,
“Are you warm enough?”
“Yea, thanks.”
“Mhm,” he hummed in response. “Do you wanna watch something?”
“M’pretty tired.” you replied. “We should probably just go to sleep.”
“Yeah, right.” he nodded, watching you.
It seemed he was waiting for you to get comfortable, like he didn’t want to push any boundaries that you weren’t ready to cross.
Unsurely you scooted your body down in the bed till you were fully horizontal, took one more glance at Luke and then turned your back to him, pulling the duvet up over your shoulders. With his blanket pulled up just under your nose you subtly breathed in the pine and vanilla aroma that you recognized as his body wash. You’d never admit to it but occasionally you’d spend a little extra time in the shower inhaling the fresh scent.
A dip in the mattress told you that Luke had laid down and within a few minutes you were sure he was sleeping again. You were feeling a bit more calm, trying your hardest to ignore every loud crash of thunder and instead focus on counting the seconds between each soft breath Luke exhaled.
Just as a drowsy haze began to come over you, straining your eyelids and fogging up your brain a particularly alarming rumble broke the silence causing your body to jerk and your breath to catch. Luke grumbled quietly beside you and you could feel him rolling around. As you opened your mouth to apologize for waking him a warm hand slipped just under the hem of your shirt, rubbing soothing circles onto the bare skin of your hip. Your body tightened at the unexpected contact and you strained your neck to look at him over your shoulder.
“Luke,”
“Go to sleep, m’right here.” he mumbled without even opening his eyes.
You faced back around but placed a hand over his and removed it from your body. This must’ve worried Luke because he pushed himself up on his elbow, eyes blinking open as you turned to face him.
“Was that not good? I’m sorry, I’ll keep my hands to myself.” he rambled through a defense.
“No,” you shushed, pressing a hand to his chest to lightly push him back down. “s’good.” you assured while pulling his arm over your body as you tucked yourself into his chest. Your bodies were completely flush in this new position. “This is better.” you murmured, your nose bumping his chest as you made yourself comfortable.
He hummed softly in agreement, his hand finding its way to your hair, cupping the back of your head.
Sleep was sweeping over you fast like this, the sound of Luke’s heartbeat drowning out any daunting noise coming from outside. Not to mention that anytime your body so much as twitched Luke’s arms would tighten around you ever so slightly as if to assure he was still there with you.
When the sun had risen you woke up to the sound of soft snores, and the feeling of tiny puffs of air on your forehead. As you tried to roll over and stretch your limbs you found your legs were tangled with someone else’s and your cheek was practically glued to the faded grey cotton that adorned your roommate’s chest.
“Luke.” you called, using your hand to shake him awake.
“Shh” he whined, repositioning you both so your back was snug against his chest.
“We have work.” you mumbled, trying to squirm out of his hold. It proved ineffective as he just tightened his arms around your stomach.
He grumbled something incoherently that sounded an awful lot like “No, stay with me please. So warm.” but that couldn’t have been it. Right?
Afraid he would dig himself further into this hole of sleepy deliriousness, you began to rouse him, prying yourself out of his arms and promising him a hot cup of coffee if he met you in the kitchen within ten minutes.
You quickly washed your face, brushed your hair and teeth and made your way to the kitchen to fix two cups of coffee. Luke stumbled out of his bedroom just a few minutes later, his eyes squinted under the natural light flooding the windows and he seemed to almost glide across the tile until you and his coffee were in arm’s reach.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty.” you greeted in a teasing tone, pushing the mug across the counter to him.
He hummed and took two large sips before turning his attention fully to you.
“G’morning, did you sleep okay?”
“Yeah, I actually did.” you affirmed. “Thank you for everything last night, Luke.” you rested your hand over his on the countertop, squeezing it once lightly to express your gratitude.
When you pulled it away Luke’s eyes lingered over where your hand had previously been before he dragged his gaze up to meet your eyes.
He released a deep sigh before speaking, “Happy to help, I’m honestly glad the storm happened.”
“Happy to see me scared shitless, are we Hemmings?”
He laughed through a denial, leaning forward to press his forehead on your shoulder where your loose fitting shirt had slipped.
Your posture straightened as your stomach tied itself in knots, each one tightening with every exhale that brushed your bare skin.
“No, I’m just glad that we can finally y’know, be-”
“Friends.” you cut off. Because that’s what you would be, you had to remind yourself. You wouldn’t have Luke’s bed to crawl into every night. You wouldn’t have his firm chest under your palms each morning, or his hands tangled in your hair. Especially not in the way you really wanted them.
Luke pulled off of you like he had been electrically shocked.
“Friends” he repeated, and if you weren’t so busy pitying yourself you may have heard the subtle lilt in his voice that caused the word to come out as more of a question than a statement.
An uncomfortable silence hung in the air, and as the minutes passed this interaction was starting to feel more like the ones you typically had with Luke.
“We should get ready for work, you have to go soon.” he spoke up, already walking away.
“We should do something tonight.” you suggested. This is what you were afraid of, you had grown attached already. “Maybe watch something or, I don’t know.” Anything to be near you again.
“I won’t be home.” he clipped, closing his bedroom door behind him.
It really was an awful idea.
You hurried through your morning routine, carefully selecting any time you had to leave your bedroom to avoid bumping into Luke. What had gone wrong? Had the word friends spooked him? If that was the case, what would he have done if he found out what you really wanted to say?
Either way you left feeling confused and rejected, so quickly you didn’t even realise you had forgotten your car keys until you were on the sidewalk outside your complex.
“Shit.” you cursed, turning on your heel and storming back in the building.
Once you had expertly made your way back inside the apartment and retrieved your keys, being as quiet as humanly possible to not alert Luke to the fact that you had re-entered, you were halfway out the door when the utterance of your name froze your movements.
“She just left for work.”
Luke must’ve been on the phone, but why was he talking about you? Curiosity got the best of you and you quietly shut the door with you on the inside, work could wait.
“Because, Cal that’s not what she wants.” he sighed.
He was talking to Calum? The only friend you shared, and the connection through which you got a room here in the first place.
“She wants to be my friend and I can’t do that. Not with her.”
“Why not?” you whispered to yourself, taking a step further inside to hear him better.
“No, it’s not better than nothing at all. I can’t be her friend ‘cause anytime she’s near me all I can think about is kissing her.”
Your stomach dropped at his words and a small gasp escaped your mouth. All the dots began adding up in your head. The avoiding? Well he had just explained that, and honestly it was the best excuse you’d ever heard. His behavior last night? You had caught him with his guard down, he was forced to let you in. His sudden annoyance at the word friends this morning? You had shot him down and you hadn’t even realized it. You liked Luke, and he actually liked you back.
“Actually, avoiding does work.” he continued, breaking you from your thoughts.
You could hear the mumble of Calum’s response but unfortunately couldn’t make out any of the words.
“Last night was an exception, she was all cute and scared. There’s no way I could’ve turned her away. I’ll go right back to avoiding, and things’ll go back to normal. Suffer in silence, I’m telling you it works.”
That’s not what you wanted, not at all. The creak of floorboards alerted you to Luke’s approaching and you hastily snuck out the front door, your mind running through possible solutions the whole way to your car.
Luke hadn’t lied when he said he wouldn’t be home, which meant he was taking this whole avoiding thing seriously. It was 1:30 am and you were still up waiting for him, your seat at the dining room table was losing its appeal as your back cramped in pain. The original plan you had concocted in the hours you spent daydreaming about him at work was to wait up for him, lure him into a movie night and make a move while the two of you were cuddled up on the couch. You hadn’t planned for him to be out this late though, and in all honesty you were starting to worry. You hoped he was just crashing at a friend’s, you hoped he wasn’t alone, you really hoped he wasn’t with another girl.
Discouraged, you moved your pity party into your bedroom, flopping onto your bed and groaning loudly into a pillow. You rolled onto your back, wasting time by counting the blades of the ceiling fan in each slow rotation.
You were at 231 in your counting when you heard the front door open followed by the clambering of footsteps. You perked up and angled your ear towards the hall.
“Please be alone. Please be alone. Please be alone.” you repeated quietly to yourself as the steps got closer. From the light protruding the crack under your bedroom door, you saw the shadow of a figure approach. You held your breath in anticipation of the knock you figured was coming. A few minutes passed, nothing came, and soon enough the shadow disappeared and Luke retreated to his bedroom.
You stared out your window and for the first time in your life found yourself hoping for a storm. The sky was clear, hardly a cloud in sight, and the moonlight was warm and prominent. It would look so pretty on Luke’s face right now, all soft eyes and drowsy expressions.
It seemed a shame to sleep by yourself, he was just across the hall, the promise of his warm embrace taunting you.
You huffed in exasperation and jumped to your feet, “Here goes nothing.”
You didn’t bother being quiet as you advanced to his door, leaving three heavy knocks on the worn oak.
You could hear him shuffling inside and then the intimidating creak of the hinges, revealing him to you.
“Are you okay?” he questioned sluggishly, his body slumping against the door frame.
“Can I sleep in here?” you asked instead of answering. No time to waste here.
“Um, it’s not storming?”
“I know. Can I?”
“Is there a reason?” he breathed, his heavy eyes drifting down your face to land unabashedly on your lips, which you were chewing in anxiousness.
“I have a crush on you.” you blurted, causing him to shoot up from his languid lean.
“What?”
“I have this big stupid crush on you. I have ever since I moved in but I thought you hated me because you always avoided me, but now I know that you like me too and I don’t see the point in us sleeping in separate beds anymore.” you continued, your eyes glued to a dip in the hardwood floor.
“How did you ev-”
“I heard you on the phone with Calum earlier.” you interrupted to explain, still refusing to meet his eyes. “I swear I wasn’t spying or anything, I forgot my keys.”
Without saying a word Luke stepped to the side allowing you entrance. You shuffled past him but didn’t make it far before his hand caught your forearm and smoothly tugged you a mere inches from him.
He spoke through heavy breaths, eyes flitting to your own as you faced him for the first time since your declaration.
“You like me?”
You could only nod, your brain completely fogged by the close proximity.
His eyes fell from your eyes to your now bitten lips, “Can I?” he sighed as his hand found your chin, thumb brushing the skin timidly.
“Y-yea” you agreed, leaning into his touch.
He closed the gap between you with a gentle press of his lips, his hand slowly dragging up your arm leaving goosebumps in its wake until it was tangled in your hair. As you relaxed into his hold his movements became more fervent, his tongue begging for entrance which you allowed when your mouth fell open with a flustered sigh.
Luke stumbled backward dragging you along with him until the back of his calves met the foot of the bed and he dropped to sit on the edge, you standing between his legs. You pulled apart to breath and he spoke raggedly,
“My heart…” he trailed off catching his breath.
“What?” you muttered.
“Feel it.” he continued, taking your hand and pressing it to his heart which you could feel thumping rapidly through the warmth of his skin.
You laid your forehead against the top of his head, moving both of your hands to your own chest.
“Me too.”
He tugged on your sweatshirt until you were seated securely on his knee, his hands grasping at your waist.
“You have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to do that.” he drawled before he began alternating pecks, and light nibbles down your neck until he reached the spot he could feel your pulse thrumming from. He lets his lips rest there for a while and reveled in the fact that you were just as affected as him. He pulled away when you spoke up.
“Where were you tonight?”
“Moped around Calum’s place until he kicked me out, told me I needed to deal with my shit.” he answered, the hand he was resting on your upper thigh caressing the skin through your pajama pants.
“I heard you outside my door earlier.” you admitted leaning into his side.
“I came home with every intention of telling you but I chickened out.”
“What would you have told me?” you wondered aloud.
“That I like you, and that last night was amazing. That I don’t want to sleep without you again if I don’t have to.”
Luke took notice of the fact that your eyelids were drooping as he talked and began to scoot you both back in the bed as he continued.
He watched in awe as you curled into his side.
“Up for a breakfast date tomorrow, love?” he asked, pulling the blanket over you both.
“Yes, please.” you agreed, laying your palm flat against the warmth radiating from his stomach.
“So what should we do with your room?” Luke said drowsily, sleep beginning to creep up on him as well.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you won’t be needing it anymore since you’re moving in here.” he comments casually, pushing your hair out of your face with soft movements.
You laugh lightly but it’s drowned by the yawn that slips out when you respond.
“In your dreams, Hemmings.”
“If I’m lucky.” he replied, allowing his eyes to flutter shut. “Goodnight y/n.”
“Night, Lu.”

Frat Boy- l.r.h.
CONTAINS SMUT...OBVIOUSLYY
Word Count: 2813
I hope y’all enjoy ;) Lmk what you think, and I DO accept requests!!!
I sighed while thumbing through the stack of papers on the desk that were waiting to be completed. I was currently working on physics- my worst subject. As soon as I began to work, a crowd of voices entered the room. Turning around, I encountered my sorority sisters who were all laughing. Yeah, I’m a sorority girl. We’re all apart of Alpha Phi, the hot girls who did well in their classes, but didn’t choose the big majors, and we partied... a lot. Which is exactly why I’m having trouble with my subjects, because I had gone to class hungover from the Frat party we went to last week.
“I heard there’s a Frat party tonight.” One of the girls, Leah, said to the group. I instantly stopped writing and listened in on the conversation.
“Yeah, isn’t it at Alpha Delta?” Another girl asked. My heart instantly dropped. There had been one of the frat boys that shared nearly every class with me, which was another reason I hadn’t been able to get all of my work done. He was the most attractive person I had ever seen, and I couldn’t concentrate around him.
Checking the time, I silently cursed to myself. My last class of the day started in nearly 15 minutes, which also happens to be one of the classes I share with the Adonis. I shoved my earbuds in my ears and gathered my textbooks before exiting the house. I hurried across campus to the correct building, just when the door swung open, knocking me back and causing the books to drop from my arms to the ground. Stumbling, I tore the earbuds from my ears and went to yell at the person who was in such a hurry to leave the building but came up speechless as my eyes met the blue ones of the special frat boy, I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about.
“(y/n)?” He spoke causing my mouth to run dry. My heartbeat harshly in my chest as I stared at him.
“H-How do you know my name?” I asked finally after moments of silence.
“We have pretty much every class together, you know?” I nodded, still allowing my eyes to bore into his. “And I see you at all the parties.”
“Yeah, my sorority sisters make me go.”
“Ah, not a partier then?”
I shrug. “Depends on my mood, I guess.” He smiles at my response before crouching down to gather my textbooks.
“Well, then I hope I can put you in the mood to come to my frat’s party tonight?”
“We’ll see,” I say with a smirk, finally gaining my confidence back.
“We will.” He replies, smiling back at me. He stood back up and extended his arms that held my books in them. I pulled them into my chest and watched as he opened the door for me to enter. I decided to sit myself in the middle row so I didn’t drag too much attention to myself, but just enough so that the professor will think I’m listening enough to not call on me.
The door of the classroom opened again, and a loud laugh followed. There, entering the building was Calum Hood. Another frat boy, who was also part of the same frat as the pretty blonde boy across the room. They walked up to one another, joking around and shoving one another in the isle of seats. I was pushed out of my daze by a hand squeezing my upper arm.
“See something you like- or should I say someone?” I turned around and met the mischievous eyes of Ashton Irwin, my sorority sister Leah’s, boyfriend.
“Shut the hell up.” I grumbled.
“I hear his frat is having a party tonight.”
I nod, gulping at the thought. “Yeah, they are. What’s it to you?”
“Leah told me. She also told me that you have the hots for-” Before he could say anything further, I cupped a hand over his mouth.
“I swear, if you ruin this-” I was cut off by him licking the palm of my hand causing me to move it away from him. “You’re disgusting.”
“Not as disgusting as the sex you’re-”
“What about sex?” A perky voice questioned while plopping in the seat beside me. I groaned, turning to who I already knew was Michael.
“You guys are going to ruin this for me.”
“Ruin what exactly?” Mikey asked. Ashton nodded his head over at the blonde who was talking to Calum.
“Miss (y/n) has a crush on our boy Luke.” I let my head fall into my hands and sighed.
“I don’t have a crush on him. I just- think he’d look good like... I don’t know. In my bed?”
Mikey laughed. “And your car, and in the shower-”
“Okay, okay. Can you guys please stop giving me shit?” I begged.
“Alright, students!” A loud voice boomed through the room. We all stopped our conversations and faced the professor. “Today, we’re learning about the reproductive system!” Ah, right, anatomy. Of course, it had to be today that we learned how the penis ejaculates.
*
I ran my fingers through my now curled (h/c) hair as I stared at my makeup that Leah had done for me. She sat back with her arms crossed and a smirk spread across her face. “Well, don’t you look hotter than before.”
I laughed, “thanks. I’m fucking nervous.”
“Babe, Luke won’t be able to control himself. You know how he is.” I sighed. Yeah, Luke was the type to get around on campus. That’s why I hated myself for having growing feelings for the guy. I usually avoided going to the same parties as him, but I couldn’t avoid the sexual tension for long. I used to tutor him, our sophomore year, it took everything in me not to drop on my knees. He had me weak every time I saw him. Everyone could see it, hell, I think he could too.
“You really think so?”
“Have you not heard the things he’s said about you?” I shook my head. “Well, maybe if you didn’t have your earbuds in your ears all the damn time, you’d know.”
I blushed at her words and stood up, finally ready. I had fishnet tights over my legs along with a tight black dress that stopped barely midthigh. Platform heels decorated my feet and strapped up my ankles. Along with it all, I decided against any sort of undergarments in hopes that I’d get lucky with a specific hot blonde.
“Alright, I’m ready.” Leah grinned and dragged me out the door. We walked for a few minutes along the sidewalk in the cool October air until we finally met with the huge fraternity. They had a huge sheet with spray painted Greek lettering on it in order to stick out to everyone attending the party. The sun had already set and people were walking up the path to the double doors of the house. Ashton was waiting, leaning against one of the pillars of the house while chatting with Michael and Calum. I gulped, squeezing the arm of Leah who gave me a reassuring look.
“You’ll be fine, just go in and take a few shots.” I nodded and followed her up to the boys.
“Ah, you actually came!” Calum cheered while staring at me.
“Me?” I asked.
“Yeah, Luke said he invited you.” He said with a grin. “You look good, by the way.” And with that, he walked inside. Leah looked over at me and smirked.
“I told you they think you’re hot.” She says while elbowing my side. I giggled and rolled my eyes.
“Alright, Mikey. Come in and take some shots with me.”
“You convinced me. Let’s go.”
We walked inside and were instantly met with the dank smell of weed and booze. I took a deep breath in order to get used to the smell and looked around. I seemed to be one of very few girls who decided to dress like this for a party, but I didn’t mind. Eyes trailed behind me as I walked, and I loved it. One of the many perks of being apart of Alpha Phi.
“Damn, (y/n), you’re like a fucking celebrity.” Mikey joked while nudging me. I finally reached the alcohol and poured us each a shot of some Pink Whitney. We clinked our glasses together and threw our heads back, letting the harsh liquid flow down our throats. I clenched my eyes together, shaking my head.
“Alright, another one.” Mikey grabbed the bottle, laughing at my words as he poured the alcohol into the small glass. With another tilt of my head, my second shot was down then a third and a fourth only minutes later.
“(y/n)?” I turned around towards the voice and met with Luke who stood there with an unopened beer in his hand.
“And that’s my queue to leave.” Mikey said while walking away.
“I came.” I told him while gesturing to myself.
“Yeah, you look hot.” He compliments, eyeing my form a few times to take in my appearance.
I swallowed my pride and smiled at him, “so do you.”
Luke seemed to think for a second before speaking. “Do you want to grab a beer and go out on the balcony with me?” He asked, shocking me.
“I, uh, yeah. Sure.” Bending down into the cooler, I felt his eyes on me the entire time. I smirked, wrapping my hands around a cold can and stood back up. He reached out to grab my hand and lead me through the large crowd of people up the stairs. There were a few straggling drunks in the hallway of the second story, but no one that was watching as he took me out the double doors of the balcony. I cracked open the can and sipped on the beer nervously, waiting to see what his plan was.
“So, is this the part where you kill me?” I joke while watching as he popped his can open as well.
“Actually, it’s the part where I tell you what I want to do to you.”
“Wait, what?”
“I said, I just wanted to talk.” What the fuck am I thinking? Nodding, I allowed him to go on. “I wanted to hang out with you alone, but a party is fine too.”
“Mhm,” I mumble against the cold can of beer against my lips. Luke seemed to let his eyes trail down my legs covered in the lacey material before throwing his head back.
“Fuck the small talk.”
“What do you-“ Before I could finish my sentence, he had taken three intimidating steps towards me and cupped my cheek in his hand, pressing his lips against mine. My heartbeat sped up, and my stomach flipped as well. I didn’t hesitate to let my free hand tangle in the back of his hair, pulling at the ends. He groaned against my lips before eventually pulling away. Looking down into my eyes, he searched them for some sort of reaction. I blinked innocently up at the frat boy and smiled.
“I can’t get your gorgeous face out of my head, (y/n).”
“Thank god.” He cocked his head in confusion, so I elaborated. I took a few chugs of my beer before finishing it and tossing the can to the ground. “I really, really want you.”
“I’m going to fucking ruin you.” He nearly growls under his breath before grabbing my wrist and taking me back inside to what I’m assuming is his bedroom. Without another word, he closed and locked the door behind me before pressing me against it. I gasped with surprise but felt nothing but pleasure as he lifted me up by my thighs and carried me over to the bed. I plopped down onto the mattress and watched as he tore his shirt from his body and discarded it to the side.
Luke curled his fingers around the edge of my dress and pulled it up over my waist. I stared at him to get his reaction when he notices- “You’re not wearing any… Did you expect this to happen?” He questioned with a laugh.
I nodded, bringing my bottom lip between my teeth. “I hoped it would.”
“With me?” I nodded again. His eyes flickered down to my womanhood before starting to pull down my tights. One they were down my legs, he looked back up at me and put two fingers between his lips, letting his spit drench them before inserting them inside of me. I jerked upwards, leaning up on my elbows as my mouth fell open in an ‘o.’ “You like that?”
“Mhm, yeah.” I moaned causing him to thrust them in and out of me. I allowed myself to relax as I grew wetter by the second. After a few seconds, he added his mouth which only made me moan louder. His tongue flattened against my clit, circling around it in a pattern that drew me close to the edge. He was amazing with his mouth. “L-Luke, please.” I begged, but he didn’t stop. Although I wanted to cum around him, I couldn’t help it. He wrapped his lips around my clit and sucked while curling his fingers inside of me. My chest heaved up and down as my thighs attempted to clench together while my climax approached. He used his free hand to keep my legs from closing and felt as they shook at his touch. “Fuck!” I screamed out. He chuckled against me before sitting up and pushing me farther on the bed. With quick hands, he pulled my dress over my head and stared at my chest.
“No bra either?” I smiled cheekily up at him before his hands came down and groped my breasts. I reached down and unbuttoned his jeans before sliding them down his legs revealing his name brand boxers. I nearly drooled at the size of the bulge before palming him through the thin material. Carefully, I pulled his member out and pumped him a few times. “God, your hands feel so good.”
“I bet my mouth would feel better.” I say confidently. He looked at me with his eyebrows raised as I switched my position so that I was sitting up. I parted my lips enough to allow him to slide in my mouth. I dragged my lips down to his shaft, my nose brushing against the happy trail against his navel. Groaning, Luke tangled his hand in my hair, pushing my head down slightly. The tip brushed the back of my throat, allowing for more spit to lubricate his member. I pulled off him and looked up.
“I know what would feel even better.” Luke says before pushing my shoulders back against the bed, pinning me underneath him. Spreading my legs, I waited for him to slide past my entrance and let an erotic moan erupt from my throat as he did. “Yeah, much better.”
“Please,” I whined.
“Please what?” Luke smirked. He knew what he was doing.
“Please fuck me, Luke. I need you so bad.” And with that, he slammed himself in me all the way. Our moans filled the room as well as the sound of skin slapping together. I lifted one of my legs up and rested it on his shoulder as he pounded in and out of me. My back arched against the mattress as my nails scratched the skin on his back, clearly leaving marks. Without warning, he pulled out of me.
“If I go any longer, I’ll bust so hang on.” I laughed at his words and waited for him to grab a condom. Once he did, he slid it over him and lined himself back up with my entrance. Grabbing the backs of my thighs, he held onto them as he began to slam himself in and out of me constantly, and roughly. I reached a hang down between my legs and rubbed at my clit to get myself closer to the edge, knowing he was close as well.
“Fuck, you’re so big.” I whimper. Luke chuckles and spreads my legs even wider, hiking them over his shoulders before leaning down against me. His lips latched onto mine, getting me closer to my orgasm. My body begins to shake as I reach my second climax of the night, feeling him twitch inside me as he reaches his as well.
“Good fucking girl.” Luke growled, watching me writhe beneath him. I breathed out, finally able to catch my breath and looked at the blonde through tired eyes.
“I thought you were good in bed, but not that good.” I admitted causing him to chuckle.
“Glad to meet your expectations.” After throwing away the condom, he pulled his pants back over his legs and tossed me a clean shirt that was neatly folded on the nightstand. I looked at him with confusion.
“What’s this for?”
“Yeah, you’re not going anywhere tonight- or for a while.”
Laughing, I slid the shirt over my head so that it draped over my bare torso. “So, that means what exactly?”
“I’m gonna make you mine, whether you like it or not.”
“Not complaining.”

🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊✨ 🎊
You walked down the hallway and returned into the crowded room, your eyes scanned the area for familiar faces. Your eyes met his as he waved you to come over, red solo cup in hand as he talked to Calum who was sipping his white claw. You weeded through the multiple groups of people as you made your way to him, his smile brighter than the disco ball Calum managed to put in his living room.
"I thought you left." Luke mentioned as he ran his fingers gets through his curls.
"I thought I told you I was going to the bathroom!” You explained as you walked with him towards the kitchen.
“I forgot, obviously.” He winked as he walked with you, you could smell his cologne as you reached the empty kitchen.
“Clearly, let me guess- tequila!” You teased as you reached for a red solo cup. You knew it was his favorite drink and that he’d either drink that or beer.
“Cal’s convinced me to try his favorite flavor of white claw!” He smiled as he reached over and grabbed a can. You poured your drink. You realized how alarming close Luke was standing to you.
He sipped his drink as he leaned against the counter, "You think Mikey and Cal will make it to midnight?"
You looked over to see them sleepily talking on the couch as Crystal talked to Kay Kay. "If they lay down and start cuddling then it’s over.”
He let out a wheeze before laughing, “I can totally see it.”
“Me too,” You smiled as you talked with him about everything and anything; the both of you ready for the new year and what it would bring.
Crystal motioned you over and he looked at you, “I’ll go find Ash, go talk to her.”
“I’ll be back.” You smiled as you left his side and walked towards her. She smiled as Kay Kay and she smiled like idiots.
“I swear if you two don’t kiss at midnight I might have to intervene.” Crystal explained as she sipped her drink.
“We’ve got a plan if you don’t.” Kay Kay commented as you sighed, as much as you wanted to kiss him you knew he only saw you as a friend.
“Like what?” You asked curiously as you watched him leave the kitchen after finishing his drink.
“A friendly game of spin the bottle or truth or dare.” Crystal smirked as Calum drunkenly walked up to the both of you.
“I heard spin the bottle, if this is a plan for them to kiss I’m in.” He said with a wink as he nodded to Michael who joined in.
“Did I just hear you talking about Luke kissing someone, it better be you and not me.” Michael teased as he looked at you.
“Like Luke’s that bad of a kisser Mike,” Calum commented as he finished his drink.
You all laughed as Michaels’s cheeks turned bright pink, “You know what I mean, they need to kiss already.”
You shook your head as your focus was drawn to Luke who was talking to Ashton across the room. Both of them had their eyes on you and everyone surrounding you.
Luke cleared his throat as you caught him staring at you, “Fuck, they caught me again.”
“Then stop staring and do something.” Ashton expressed as he waved to you.
“Like what Ash? It’s almost midnight there isn’t much time.” Luke sighed as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
“Take a shot of liquid courage and take them outside and talk to them without everyone else.” Ashton suggested and Luke thought about it and realized it wasn’t a bad idea. He left Ashton without a word and walked into the kitchen and found the whiskey, poured a shot of it before checking the time.
11:53pm.
He threw back the whiskey before looking at you and walking back into the living room, you walked up to him, “Hey you.”
“Hey can we talk outside?” He asked and you nodded and followed him to the front door of Calum’s house.
He opened the door for you and you stepped outside and looked at your watch and it read 11;55pm.
Luke stood in front of you as he took a deep breath before stepping closer to you making the space between you no longer present. “I know I’ve had all year to tell you but I can’t live another moment not telling you how I feel.”
“I’ve always had a ‘thing’ for you as the boys would say but it’s so much more than that. You are the only person who makes me smile the way you do, you always know how to make me laugh and you’re always there no matter what. Every time I look at you I feel loved beyond measure.”
You hung on every word as you looked in his eyes, his soft blues. Everything he said was exactly how you felt about him. He meant everything to you and more.
You held his face in your hands and smiled, “Luke, you are my world. I don’t know what I’d do without you. You make me feel so safe. It’s you, Luke, it’s always been you.”
Within seconds his lips were on yours in a heart-stopping and world turning kiss, his hands resting on your waist as your chest pressed against his. His lips softer than you could’ve ever imagined as you tasted whiskey mixed with mint, inhaling his scent you breathed on his lips before he softly pecked yours. “Oh Luke.”
He hummed before pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, “Yes?”
“You truly waited until the last 5 minutes of the year to tell me.” You giggled running your fingers through his golden curls.
“I didn’t know how else to do it, Ash convinced me to take liquid courage” He chuckled as he gazed into your eyes.
“So that’s what I tasted on your lips.” You slowly swiped his lower lip, his soft lips kissed your fingertips.
“Mixed with my love, darling.” He winked as you felt your heart skip a beat. “Wanna get out of here?”
“I thought you’d never ask.” You smiled as your fingers intertwined with his as you left Calum’s house and walked together towards his car.

luke could feel himself slipping away, but he didn't know why. but the evenings were getting longer, and he found himself staying up most nights in his studio, hoping to find some serenity in his work. for hours, days, and weeks, he was writing, writing, and writing. trying to make sense of everything.
you realized he was distancing himself from you, but you supported him as best you could, knowing he needed his space and time to figure out whatever was bothering him. but all you wanted to do was talk it out with him. you wanted him to find comfort in you.
you lightly tapped the door while poking your head inside. you said, with a voice as smooth as honey, "luke, hon, dinners ready." as you left, the blonde nodded and looked up from his computer.
you sat alone at the dinner table that night, waiting for him, refusing to have dinner without him. surely he'd come out right? he'd never leave you alone for dinner.
you'd lost your appetite and stood up to clean up the kitchen. after putting all of the leftovers in tupperware, you started the dishwasher and headed upstairs to bed.
you're sleeping on your side, listening for the faint sounds of his footsteps and the door to open. you had been checking the time on and off, and he finally went to bed at three a.m. you felt his side of the bed dip and his arm go for your waist. "are you still awake?" he asks, and you could tell he was fatigued. "mhm" you hum.
you finally turn to your right side to face him, saying, "i'm worried about you." it was the first time you'd truly seen him. his eyes were dark than usual, and his curls were wild. uou've never seen him like this before, not even while he was on tour. "i'm fine, honey," he assured you. "luke.." you sigh as you brush your hand through his tangled golden curls. "please talk to me. i'm here...let me in, please." luke noticed that you were about to cry. "shh...it's okay," he said as he drew you closer. "everything is fine. i promise."
this went on for weeks; he'd either not show up to dinner or show up just as you were finishing. tiny "I'm sorry" escaped his lips as you passed past him to your shared bedroom.
the nights felt endless, he would stay up till obscene hours of the night, leaving you alone. you were curious as to what was going on; had you done anything to irritate him? if you did, why hasn't he brought it up? you'd spend those evenings sobbing yourself to sleep.
luke hadn’t noticed, he was too engulfed in his work. he didn’t realize he was breaking his number one promise to you. he replays that night over and over again while he works, because you were always the one who got him through his toughest times n
“i’ll never put my work above you, y/n/n. you’re a gift from the heavens. i promise to cherish you until the end of our days.” the two of you swayed underneath the strung fairy lights in your backyard. having celebrated your third anniversary. you both thought nothing would ever come between the two of you. “i’ll love you forever, luke hemmings.” you smiled.
he was humming and strumming while sitting in his office. he wasn't moving forward at all. and It was beginning to irritate him. he attempted to hum the remainder of the bridge, but he was having trouble. he sighed, put the instrument down, and turned to leave. his foot landed on the kitchen's chilly hardwood floor before moving into the hallway. he assumed you were viewing it when he heard quiet, incomprehensible words coming from the television.
“what’s for dinner, love?” he asked, opening the refrigerator.
“nothing” you answered, followed by a sniff. he raised his eyebrows, closing the door and walking over by you.
petunia sat by your side, head in your lap. “is everything okay?”
that question alone made you frustrated, tears welled in your eyes for what felt like the millionth time, and you paused your show finally letting your emotions spill.
“luke, you've been checked out for almost two weeks. I'm exhausted," you said, wiping your eyes to divert his attention. he asserted, "i haven't," because he felt he couldn't bear the weight of his guilt. your throat let forth a dry laugh. "right. what happened to all the promises you made to help me with organizing the bedroom? what about the this morning when i had to do it myself and broke my foot, so the boys had to help me rather than my husband?” you indicated the boot that was resting on the sofa pillow. he fixed his eyes on your foot for a moment before returning them to your face as shame overcame him. your tears had made your eyes puffy and red, and the circles under them were darker than ever.
“why didn’t you call?”
“i did! calum did, ashton did, mike did! we all called and texted you while i was at the hospital. but you were too fucking busy in that goddamn studio!”
you yelled from your shared bedroom, "shit!" yhe three boys in your home were drawn to you because of your loud thud and yell. instead of luke, they came to the rescue. "shit, y/n!" ashton approached you, calum raising the bedside table. michael grabbed on to you as you drew your foot back. "can you put weight on it?" he inquired. you tried, but the sudden urge of pain caused your eyes to water. "no," your grip on his arm was strong. you whimper, "i think i need to go to the hospital."
calum and michael helped you in getting downstairs and into your car. ashton hastily grabbed your bag and everyone else's belongings. he knocked on luke's studio door and tried to open it, but he had locked it. he was sick of being interrupted all the time.
at the hospital, the three of them kept trying to contact luke. each phone call resulted in a voicemail, and each text was left on delivered.
you had a glimmer of hope that luke would return, and you thought it would be today. you were in a lot of agony, and all you wanted was for luke to hold you and tell you how much he loves you.
ashton walked into the room, his phone in his pocket. your gaze met his, hope lingered in your eyes, but it washed away with a simple shake of his head.
luke just stared at you, no words coming to mind. "y/n..i.." he grumbled. "luke, i know you're struggling, and i tried to be there for you, but i'm also suffering, luke," you shook your head. "i'm afraid i'm losing you." you were filled with rage as you stared back at luke. he was taken aback because this was the first time he had seen you so enraged. he blinked a few times before taking a deep breath and opening his mouth.
“let me fix this, let me fix us. i can and i will. i just need a little more time to finish this project, hon.” you shook your head, let out a small sob, and buried your face into the palm of your sweatshirt. “luke..i’m tired. i’m so tired. you promised you wouldn’t put your work above me. you did. you cry “look what happened” your voice broke as you spilled your heart to him.
luke exhaled, settling by your side, "y/n." he is speechless and doesn't want to argue with you. “i’ll fix this. i don’t wanna fight. tell me what you want from me…please..” ” he kissed you on the temple first, then the cheek.
“i want you to let me in, i feel like you’re pushing me away and i can’t deal with that.” you cry, luke is still by your side, wiping away the tears on your cheek. “you haven’t left that studio, and i just..” you couldn’t form the right words. but when you looked at him your felt your heart breaking. “do you even love me anymore?”
when the words left your lips luke felt his whole world crashing down, of course he still loved you. you were his universe, the light he had always been searching for.
for years luke had struggled with communication and he couldn’t form the right words to express himself. “oh, y/n…of course i still love you. but this project means a lot to me and…i just…i want to get it done. and i hope you can understand that..” you sigh, and push away his hands. “i can’t believe you’re closing your work over me” you say.
“y/n i-“ luke tries to speak but you cut him off, “i don’t want to hear it, just…forget it.”
luke sighs, and stands up from the sofa. his footsteps echoed down the corridor, and petunia soon followed. you couldn't help but feel dejected, and you felt even worse after one of your rare disagreements. you'd never felt so angry or hurt before.
that night, you slept on the couch with petunia by your side. and spent a couple of hours on facetime with ashton, deciding what your next step should be. "what are your options, hotshot?" ashton inquired, setting down his phone. "well.." you began, rubbing your sleepy eyes. "i could live with sierra or mike and crystal….just until I can get my stuff and find a place," you started thinking.
it was a stormy night, and your gaze was drawn to the glass doors as raindrops fell down the glass. "do you think i'm making the right decision?" you ask, capturing your friends' attention. "i do," ashton considered. “i mean, i love luke. he's like my brother, yet this behavior is unacceptable. i know he loves you, especially after this week, but this has been going on for far too long. it’s not good for either of you." he continued, his head resting on his hand.
you agreed with a nod. you still adore him and believe he is your entire universe, but you can't let it go on. "you're right.." a sigh escaped your lips as you fought the impulse to cry again. "i'll see you in the mornin?" you ask, and he nodded. "be there bright and early," he said, empathetically.
you woke up earlier than usual that morning, with a tiny bag already packed and waited for ashton to arrive.
you had kept your cool all morning, but when ashton stepped in, you let it all out. your arms curled over his big shoulders as he approached the sofa where you sat, and the tears had finally come. "shh..it's okay." ashton quieted your sobs and gently caressed your back.
there's a quiet understanding between the two of you, and ashton assists you in getting off the sofa, hands you your crutches, and walks with you to the door. "wait," you say as you stop him, "will you put this on the counter?" you ask, handing him a piece of paper. ashton nods and performs as you request.
when he returns, he collects your bag and opens the door for you, "you ready?" he inquires. you glance behind you, hoping that luke will come down and fight for you.
but he doesn't, so you return to ashton, nod, and exit the house

Monday
10:45 am
My professors words were jumbled into incoherent mumbles, I bit my thumbnail relentlessly as my foot tapped the floor with anticipation. I had 15 minutes left of class before going in blind to my lunch session with Luke.
My eyes stared blankly ahead of me, every few moments glancing to the clock. The simple knowledge that Luke was present on campus turned my stomach. I had no recollection of what my professor had been speaking about, my mind had been swiped blank by the intimidating company of the blond close by.
I counted every second as the minutes passed, unconsciously ripping the skin from around my thumbnail with my teeth as I was growing more and more antsy in my seat. The classroom was filled with a soft hum of the air conditioner, accompanied with the occasional cough or sneeze from another student. I had no preparation for my meeting with Luke, as his demeanor and tone over text was difficult to read. I didn't know if this was going to be a regular, back to normal session, or something unexpected. My breath shook, I tried my best to calm my nerves as the class came to an end.
My professor offered Luke's tutoring to the class once more before dismissal, grabbing his own belongings for his lunch hour. I watched absentmindedly as students exited the classroom, my professor stopping at my seat.
"Luke seems to be running a bit late. You're free to go get yourself some lunch and come back," He began warmly, "Or you can wait here. Up to you." He smiled, giving my chair a light tap before making his way out of the classroom. My legs felt like jelly, I wasn't confident that I wouldn't tip right over if I stood up. I stayed glued in my seat, burning my eyes into the table in front of me awaiting Luke's arrival.
I bit my cheek, checking the time which was now 11:15. My anxieties began to turn to frustration, as I selfishly started to overthink he was late on purpose. I let out a heavy sigh, my tapping foot emitting a fast thumping sound. I knew that my frustration stemmed from the anxiety of suspense, but I stubbornly blamed it on his lack of time management. I swiftly whipped out my from my bag on the floor beside me, impulsively sending Luke an anxious text.
"Where are you? I'm waiting."
I sent the message with a huff, sliding my phone on the table. I leaned back in my chair with crossed arms, glaring at my phone as I sat silently in the empty room.
"Impatient?". I swung my head around abruptly as I heard the door creak open, a deep voice emerging from behind me. Luke entered the classroom leisurely, his face plastered with a smug smile and two coffees in hand.
"You're late." I muttered, turning back around in my chair with a straight face. I heard him chuckle from behind me, his large frame pulling up a chair beside mine. He set one iced coffee on the table in front of me, scooting it closer to my body. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye, he flashed me an apologetic smile.
"I could've been late with no coffee." He tilted his head. His playful demeanor uncontrollably making me crack a smile. I gave in, taking the coffee from Luke with a small giggle. I took a sip from the iced drink, Luke remembering my order perfectly. He let out a small sigh before speaking.
"I'm really sorry, Y/n." He spoke softly. I turned my head slightly to look at him, his eyes burning deeply into mine. "I should've explained myself better for you.". I looked down to my drink, toying with the straw as I took in his words.
"Yeah." I spoke quietly.
"You understand my dilemma, right?" He asked, moving his seat closer. "You know I'm not doing this to you 'cause I want to?". I glanced to him briefly before back down to my drink, his gaze was intimidating. I nodded slightly.
"It just sucks, Luke." I began, "You expect me to just come to tutoring all normal again? Like nothing?" I narrowed my eyes, turning my head to look at him. Luke sighed.
"I know. I'm sorry." He muttered, "You think it'll be easy for me to just be your tutor when I want every single part of you?" He urged. I looked away swiftly at words. "This isn't any easier for me than it is for you."
I felt his body move closer to mine, his knee brushing my outer thigh. His face was only inches from mine. We both could feel the tension in the air rising by the second, becoming desperate. I looked back up to him, his blue eyes looking into mine deeply. I wanted nothing more than for him to take me over completely. He placed a hand on my thigh gently as he spoke.
"You're all I want, Y/n." He spoke deeply. We were lost in each others gaze, our faces only inches apart. It felt as though there was a magnet pulling the two of us closer together, slowly.
Inch by inch, Luke inevitably connected our lips gently, his hand on my thigh tightening its grip. I shivered at the promiscuity of our kiss in the very accessible classroom. The kiss quickly got deeper, Luke moving his lips against mine passionately. He moved a hand up to the side of my face, our breathing slowly beginning to pick up. Luke shifted in his seat at the growing hard-on forming in his tight slacks, whimpering slightly into my mouth.
He pulled away quickly, looking at me with heavy breaths.
"We can't." He lazily shook his head, wiping his mouth with his thumb as he stood up from his seat swiftly. I stood up from mine after him, moving into him closer.
"Can't we?" I spoke softly as I looked up at him, just above a whisper while I trailed my hands down his chest, running my fingers alone his waistline. My hands shook and heart beat fast as I boldly chose my next actions, but the desperation over powered my rationality. Luke let out a shaky breath, looking to the unlocked door just a few feet away.
"Y/n..." He breathed deeply, watching my hands toy with his pants button and zipper.
"No one will be in here for another hour." I smiled, looking down at my hands. I swiftly undid the button on Luke's slacks, the zipper right after, before I dropped to my knees in front of him slowly.
"You're crazy. You're so fuckin' crazy." Luke repetitively rambled at a whisper, anxiously running his hands through his hair as he watched me in awe.
"Just be quiet." I giggled. I palmed his already hard member over his pants, emitting a groan from his lips before pulling his pants down just enough to reveal his shaft. I looked up at Luke through my eyelashes, meeting his eyes as I swiped my tongue under his tip once. He let out a heavy sigh, placing a hand on my head, stroking my hair. I opened my mouth wider, taking Luke inside my mouth fully. He brought the back of his hand up to his mouth, concealing a moan as he tossed his head back. His hand rested lazily on my head, gripping my hair slightly as I picked up a steady rhythm with my neck, taking Luke down my throat.
"Fuck, Y/n, you're so good." He whimpered, his mouth dropping to an "O". I brought a hand up, pumping and sucking Luke at the same time.
I watched him as I trembled above me, glancing to the door behind him every few seconds. Luke abruptly pulled himself out of my mouth, grabbing me from under my arms.
"Get up here." He growled. He swiftly lifted me from the ground, placing me on top of my desk facing him. Luke leaned in vigorously and connected our lips, bringing his hands down to my waistband and pulling my jeans down just to my knees. He effortlessly propped my feet up, leaving my knees against my chest and eager heat exposed. Both of us shook with adrenaline, trying to quickly get our deed done in the public classroom.
"Can you stay quiet for me, sweetheart?" He cooed, lining himself up with my folds. I wiggled my hips eagerly, his tip prodding against my hole. Wasting no time, Luke slipped himself inside of me, letting out a breath as my slick walls wrapped around him. Immediately, a loud squeal escaped my lips, making Luke's hand fly to my mouth to silence me. His other hand held my leg up underneath my thigh as he let out a chuckle.
"Quiet, doll. You don't wanna get caught, do you?" He spoke deeply, picking up his pace. I looked down to where Luke and I connected, my toes curled at the sigh of him finally inside of me. I let out another muffled whine into Luke's hands as he kept up his vigorous pounding. I quickly glanced up to the clock, then to the door behind Luke, still cautious of our surroundings in the open classroom. Luke noted my concerns, moving my face with his hand to look back at him.
"Don't worry about anyone else, doll. Focus on me." He spoke deeply, looking into my eyes as he made me focus solely on his member pumping in and out of me euphorically.
"You like being fucked where anyone can see?" Luke chuckled, moving in closer and connecting his forehead to mine, "You like being my slut, doll?". I nodded frantically, my whimpers continued to be muffled my Luke's hands.
"Fuck, doll, you're so tight around my cock." He groaned, watching himself pumping into me vigorously.
Luke quickly glanced to the clock, noting we had 10 minutes until the next class would begin to arrive.
"How fast can you cum for me, baby?" He cooed, bringing a hand up to my sensitive bud, rubbing fast circles into my clit. I dug my teeth into Luke's hands, looking up at him. My walls began to clench around his member, my climax rising quickly.
"That's a good girl. C'mon, doll, cum for me." He growled, keeping a steady rhythm with his thumb and pounding. I tossed my head back, shaking under Luke as I released about his throbbing member. My climax bringing him to his on my thigh quickly after.
With no time for catching a breath, Luke quickly retreated any tissue box he could find and cleaned his mess from my leg, assisting me in standing up and putting my pants back on. We silently slumped back into our chairs, breathing heavy as we collected our thoughts. Beads of sweat collected at Luke's forehead, his blond curls sticking to his skin. My hair laid messy down my back.
"That's not what I meant by we'll talk on Monday." Luke half joked, giving me a side eye. Giving us no time to debrief, the clock ticking to 12:15 and my clueless professor bursting through the door made us quickly adjust ourselves in our seats, trying to act nonchalant.
"Afternoon, Luke." He greeted with a smile, making his way to his desk. Luke smiled with a nod, his ability to act like he wasn't jack hammering me into the table just a couple minutes ago bewildered me. "You're real sweaty. Good session?". My professor raised his eyebrows, still completely clueless. Luke glanced to me briefly with wide eyes, then back to the professor.
"Definitely. Getting better every session." He smiled smugly, turning to look at me. My professors eyes flashed to me, my eyes now meeting his. I smiled with a nod at confirmation.
"That's right." I spoke. My professor nodded, placing his books onto his desk enthusiastically.
"That's great to hear, Y/n.". Luke and I shared a glance, unsure of our next move as I had a class I was now late to. Luke stood up with an uneasy sigh, meeting my eyes once more before turning to the door.
"Uhm. I'll see you tomorrow.". He gave me a look as if to say something which was unsaid. I watched as he exited the room, left to my own devices until I heard from him next, which was too left unknown.

when they ask how to not fall in love
there is no stopping a train already in motion. it runs over the tracks and over your body, tied to the rails. it runs you ragged to the bone until you are a skeleton weathered by the waves and bleached by the sun. you remember the indent of the wheels across your skin, ground into your body like battle scars. it creates puckered flesh, healing to old white.
this is love. it is painful. you are tied to the tracks and they are a train, barreling over you and owning every inch of your body. they mark you and make you their own. you are helpless against it, swept in the current of a riptide and carried far from shore. they are the hurricane and you are the beach, powerless to the way they crash over you and take all of you in. taste the salt on your lips and know you are too far gone to be anything more than useless in their arms.
oh how the mighty fall, fall in love like a waterfall cascading over the rocks. darling, you will see it coming right before it hits and you will be still, as if you are standing on the edge of a building and realize the ground is coming towards you as you fall. you cannot not fall in love. it’s against the morals of space and time. they love to tear you up inside, tear you apart from your fibers and spread you out to be reshaped.
that is love. i know you know it will hurt. i tell you that it will, a thousand times more than the burn of fire across your skin, the lick of a flame that tastes like bittersweet achievement. tell me you are afraid and i will believe any word you say. tell me you fear nothing and you are a liar who has laid their cards out bare. tell me love is the only thing to fear in war and i will know you keep your word.
do not try to prevent the falling; it will only hurt more. love when it is given to you and love with as much reckless abandon as one could. love and love and grow weary and weep and break. you are the ocean and they are the sun. they dry you up, but you keep on giving. you keep on giving until there is nothing left and they burn—burn you up to dust and even then, you will give and give and give.
there is no not when it comes to falling in love—all you can do is take the leap before it takes you.

Chemistry [L.R.H]
Surprise fic post! I finally finished this one up, it’s been bugging me for awhile but I’m really happy with how it turned out. Hope you enjoy it, feel free to send in requests or just come talk!
Warnings: Kinda sad, kinda angsty, kinda fluffy. There’s a lot going on here.
WC: 2615
At the rate her day was going, Y/N was sure she’d be dead by the end of it. She had set the wrong alarm the night before and woke up twenty minutes before her first class, barely making it on time before realizing that the test that she thought was the following week was in fact today. So there goes that grade.
Her roommate had texted to remind her that rent was due early this month, because of course it was, and when she finally, finally was able to head home, got caught in a pop up thunderstorm that soaked her in seconds. A great day, really.
Cursing every entity that she could possibly think of, she finally reached her apartment complex and stumbled her way up to the third floor before freezing in her tracks. Sat in front of her door was a face she hadn’t expected to see for at least another three weeks, a face she hadn’t spoken to in at least three days. Luke.
He had glanced up at the sound of her feet hitting the floor, a small smile forming on his face as he took in the sight of his soaked girlfriend. “Hey, babe.” All she could do was stare, and for a second, she considered turning around and walking back downstairs, before ultimately deciding to reach her right hand to her left arm and pinch herself as hard as she could.
Upon finding herself still standing across from her boyfriend and not in fact dreaming, she slowly walked closer to the apartment door, reaching into her purse to grab her keys. He moved off to the side to let her access the door, his small smile turning a little bit nervous at her reaction to his presence. When the two were safely inside the apartment, the door shut behind them, Y/N finally met his gaze.
“What are you doing here?” His smile turned into a frown at the question, and he began picking at the polish on his nails. “We have a few days off and I thought I’d come see you. I know our last conversation didn’t go really well and I wanted to make it right.”
Her eyes narrowed at his words, scoffing slightly as she turned to walk towards the bedroom. “A conversation? That’s what you’d call that interaction? I think most people would classify their partner accusing them of cheating to be at least an argument, don’t you think?” Once in her room she moved to the dresser, changing out of her soaked clothing and into an old t-shirt and sweats.
Luke slowly followed her to the bedroom, frown more predominant as he gathered his thoughts. Just as he opened his mouth to respond, Y/N’s phone rings, breaking into whatever he was going to say. She barely spares him a glance before answering her phone. “Hello? Oh hi, Cal. Yeah, I know, he’s standing right in front of me.”
Her eyes dart over to Luke’s figure in the doorway before focusing back on her fidgeting hands.
“Yeah, I’ll let him know. I don’t know what's going to happen, Cal, I’ll let you know. Bye.” She tosses her phone down onto the bed, eyes moving to settle on Luke. “I thought you had a break? Calum seemed concerned because apparently, you just up and left in the middle of the night.” He flinches at her harsh tone and steps further into the room and moves to sit on the bed. “Can we please talk? Please, Y/N. I know I messed up and I’m really, really sorry.” She scoffs and sits across from him on the bed, legs crossed in front of her. “Are you really sorry though, Luke? Waiting three days to even attempt to apologize really doesn’t sit well with me, especially after what you said.” “I didn’t mean it, you know that! I was just stressed and frustrated.” His rebuttal is much louder than her question and is accompanied by dramatic hand gestures that would’ve made her laugh if she wasn’t so upset.
“Just because you were ‘stressed’ and ‘frustrated’,” her voice grinds out, “doesn’t give you the right to take it out on me and accuse me of fucking cheating on you.” It’s hard to breathe now, her chest feels like it’s constricting and she knows what’s coming, she can recognize the slightest hint of a panic attack from miles away, and although she tries to shut it down it pushes through anyways. Luke notices, of course he notices. He knows practically everything about her. Coffee over tea, dogs over cats, hair up and out of her face instead of loose on her shoulders. He sure as hell can tell when her breathing becomes tighter and her fingers begin to shake, he notices the slight wandering of her left eye as she stares into the space in front of her.
He moves closer to her, not close enough to touch her, but close enough that her eyes focus back in on the room. He lowers his voice, telling her that he’s going to start counting out a breathing pattern and that she needs to follow it, and she does. In for four, out for three, over and over again until the air feels lighter, feels more manageable and her fingers stop shaking. When she finally locks her gaze on him, her resolve breaks and she’s in his arms, sobbing.
Large hands rub up and down her back and he starts humming under his breath, letting her get her emotions out. He knows she hasn’t let them out since the fight, the god awful fight, and he knows she has let it grow and fester in her mind until now. It takes what feels like hours but is likely only minutes before her breathing has leveled out and he leans back to catch her gaze.
“I’m sorry for raising my voice, I didn’t mean to stress you out even more.” His voice breaks the silence in the room, barely a whisper but strong in the face of emotions and high tension.
His hands rise to her face, wiping away the stray tears remnant of a panic attack that he feels could have been avoided. No, he knows it could have been avoided. He’s not blind to what he did and what he said, both moments ago and three days ago. His emotions came first in those moments, not worrying about how it would impact hers. And although they had discussed that they both needed to share and expel their emotions, they had agreed to do it in a civilized manner.
Well, as civilized as you could be with emotions pouring out. They avoided pulling personal cards to guilt the other into agreeing and listening, no bringing up past arguments because they all should be settled and stirring a pot of old emotions definitely wouldn’t help with whatever was coursing through their minds and bodies at that moment.
But he ignored their rules, letting a moment of insecurity and longing to be near her dictate the harsh words that came out of his mouth.
“Hey this is Y/N, sorry I can’t get to the phone right now, leave me a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!”
“Hey, babe, it’s me. Luke, which you probably know because I’ve called like ten times in the past half hour. It’s -uh, it’s 7:30, well 7:55 now, but it’s our time to talk for today but I haven’t heard from you. Give me a call when you’re ready to talk.”
She let out a sigh of relief as she entered the car, tossing her backpack onto the passenger seat before putting the key into the ignition and starting the car. Her phone connects to the bluetooth, blasting out her 90’s playlist before abruptly cutting off with the sound of her ringtone.
Pressing the accept button on her radio, she answers the phone as she backs out of her parking spot.
“Hello?”
“Oh, you actually answered?” His voice is rough, tone coming across as a mix between hostile and relieved, though causing her forehead to wrinkle in confusion.
“Lu? What’s wrong bub?” “I wasn’t expecting you to pick up is all. I’ve been calling for nearly an hour, Y/N.” Her eyes dart to the clock as she stops at a light, eyes widening when she realizes how late it is. “Oh, god, Lu I am so so sorry. I was at the library with Brendon and Will, we’ve got this huge chem test tomorrow and I must’ve forgotten to tell you I needed to push our talk tonight to a little bit later.”
Silence. She knows he’s still on the line, she can hear him breathing and the muffled sounds of the other boys on the bus. She also knows he’d never hang up on her, not once has he done it in the year they’ve been together, no matter how stressed out or angry the two of them may be.
“Luke?”
“You went out with Brendon again?” She squeezes her eyes shut momentarily, realizing where this conversation may lead. A beep from the car behind her has her eyes flying open, pressing her foot down on the gas pedal and heads through the intersection. “Luke, we didn’t go out, we went to the library to study. And Will joined us, it wasn’t just Brendon and I.”
He’s silent again and she worries her bottom lip between her teeth. “You said you wouldn’t talk to him anymore. Not after last time.”
She sighs, flipping the blinker on and turning into the parking lot of her apartment. “I wasn’t planning on it, Lu, but no one else was getting together to study tonight, they were all going to go in the morning but I’ve got work.”
Her car is shut off after pulling into her space, picking her phone up and squashing it between her shoulder and her ear as she gathers her stuff to head inside. She’s not making a lot of noise, but enough that she almost misses the words that he mumbled in response.
“Right, fifty people and only he’s available.” She freezes, nearly drops her phone as her mouth drops open, changing the angle her phone was resting at. “Excuse me?”
He scoffs and it sends a sour feeling through her body. “I just find it odd that the only person available to study is the same guy who tried to get you to dump me.”
“Luke can we not do this, please? I’m home now and if you give me a few minutes I can be ready to FaceTime, okay?” “Actually, I’ve got stuff I have to do, so I should go. If you want to FaceTime someone, I’m sure Brendon would be happy to help.”
The line clicks dead and her mouth fell open once again, taking in the fact that her boyfriend has essentially accused her of cheating and had actually hung up on her. She must stand in the entryway of her apartment for too long because suddenly her roommate is calling her name and asking if she’s okay.
She manages out some sort of reply about how she’s okay and just tired before stumbling into her bedroom and falling on the bed, tears soaking her pillow and a massive headache beginning to form behind her eyes.
They’ve moved further up the bed and she’s cuddled into his chest while they sit and gather their thoughts. She knows that part of the argument was her fault, she was normally really good at letting Luke know if she needed to change her plans, but she also knows that his comments were completely uncalled for.
“I love you, Luke.” She sits up to look him in the eyes, seeing the same nervous and apprehensive expression she’s sure is gracing her face staring back at her. “I love you, but you can’t do that. That doesn’t work for me, I can’t handle being called a cheater when my boyfriend is halfway across the country. I know that I should’ve sent you a text about going to study, but I got so busy and it slipped my mind.”
His fingers are linked with hers and his thumbs are gently rubbing circles on hers as he lets her get her thoughts out before he speaks his peace. “Y/N, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said any of that and I know being stressed and frustrated isn’t an excuse and neither are my feelings towards Brendon. You’re doing so well at school and I know that you wouldn’t study with him unless you had to and I just-”
His voice cuts off and suddenly choking, gasping sounds are coming out of his mouth and he’s sobbing. She pulls him closer immediately and lets him curl into her chest, rubbing her hands up and down his back to try and calm him down.
“I just- I just miss you so much when I’m gone and I know our lives have so many different people in them but I hate not being here to spend time with you and help you and-” “Luke Robert Hemmings.” Her interruption startles him and forces him to glance up and lock eyes with her. “You are doing the most important thing for you. I love you so much for putting yourself first sometimes, and your tours are those times. I know how important music and the band are, and I knew that getting into a relationship with you. I know our relationship isn’t conventional in any way and that sometimes we spend more time apart than together, but that’s a sacrifice we both knew we would have to make.” Her hands reach up and to frame Luke’s face, their eyes still locked, and she pulls him in for a quick kiss. Their lips meet and linger for a moment, and she can feel the tears streaming down his face. She pulls back and wipes the tears from his cheeks, offering him a small smile.
“I love you, Lu. So much. But you can’t shut me out anymore and you definitely can’t accuse me of being unfaithful.” Luke’s head moves up and down, agreeing with her statement. “I’m so sorry, baby. I’m so so sorry.” Her fingers run through his hair as he apologizes, recognizing his need to apologize an absurd amount of times, knowing that it makes him feel better. She sits there and lets him mumble apologies and I love you’s to his heart's content until the room is silent, only the sound of their breathing apparent in the room.
Luke’s voice finally breaks the silence some ten minutes later. It’s still rough from crying, though it lacks the hesitancy and uncertainty that tainted it earlier. “How did your chemistry test go?”
Y/N barks out a laugh, leaning up and planting a kiss on his cheek as she dives into detail about how her test went and how half of the class didn’t even show up for the exam. Luke watches her explanation with a smile gracing his face, more content than he’s been in a long time, tackling her to the side of the bed when she tells him that she scored an A on her test.
Her pleas fill the air as he attacks her face with peckish kisses, on her forehead, cheeks, nose, even planting some on her closed eyelids as she laughs. He knows that he’ll apologize for at least another week, and that she’ll accept his apologies as long as he gives them, but for now, everything is good. Everything is great.
