What do you think about the Attersee?

It's the biggest lake in Austria that is NOT a border to other countries like Lake Neusiedl (which is currently in danger of drying out. Which is apparently not even the first time this has happened in its history) or Lake Konstanz aka Bodensee (which is in NO danger of EVER drying out, mostly because it has an entire river flowing THROUGH it (yes, really. They consider the Rhine to flow through the Bodensee))

Anyway, I took that picture of the Attersee about three years ago. It's a popular spot for divers because the water is so clear and there's not much plants on the ground. It's also WAY warmer in summer than the neighboring Traunsee, which goes up to like. 15°C, even in summer. Probably because the lake is so deep and dark. (Srsly, that shit looks cursed) Not Attersee tho, this friendly boi can go up to 25°C in August.

The high rock formation in the background is called "Höllengebirge" (lit.: hell's mountains) tho, so at least THAT might account for some cursed energy. (Behind that mountain is the Traunsee tho, so it might be that LOL)

Andritz to supply a 170 MW variable-speed reversible pump turbine for "green battery"

  Andritz has received an order from the Upper Austrian Utility Energie AG to supply the electromechanical equipment for the new Ebensee pumped storage power plant. This project not only marks the largest single investment by the energy utility, but also represents a significant step towards climate neutrality. The advanced pumped storage plant will act as a green battery by balancing fluctuations in power generation from wind and solar plants, thus ensuring security of supply for the population.

(c) Rudolf Laresser It takes advantage of the topography to store energy and make it available whenever needed. Excess energy from renewable sources will be used to pump water from the Traunsee lake into a mountain reservoir 500 meters higher up at Grosser Sonnstein. When needed, the stored water will be released to generate energy that would otherwise have to be produced from fossil sources. Andritz will equip the power plant with a 170-megawatt variable-speed reversible pump turbine, the generator and related automation. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in October 2023.
