The Lanolin Ship Studies #3

Hey everyone! Lanolin and I are here with another Ship Study, where we study and breakdown the pros and cons of the most popular Sonic the Hedgehog ships! Fans of the series will probably be wondering, "Wait, what happened to #1 and #2?" Well loyal readers, it turns out some trolling antis got those posts taken down. Apparently, a lot of them didn't like the thoughts I had towards their favorite ships, K.K. Slider x Sonic (K.K. Slonic) and Amy Rose x Chun-Li (Amy-Li), and brigaded my posts to get them falsely taken down. Don't worry though, I won't let the haters stop us! I will continue to provide you with thoughtful, and sometimes critical, insights into all the best ships while I work on getting those posts back up. Today's ship has definitely earned it's spot at #3 in the most popular ships:

That's right, it's Lara Croft x Rouge the bat (Larouge). Wow! Look at them! Lanolin sure is excited to explore the aspects of this relationship today. For a little detail on these two, in case you somehow don't know, Rouge the Bat is an infamous jewel thief, super spy, and occasional hero from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, while Lara Croft is a renowned archeologist and explorer from the Tomb Raider series. Looking at the two of them, you might not have guessed they'd have shared such a love for ancient artifacts and exploring old tombs, but looks can be deceiving! They have a lot in common which makes them quite the priceless couple.

Pro #1: Shared Love of Relics Did you know Lara Croft has a huge artifact collection from her adventures? This is where she differs from other archeologists. See, Lara Croft likes to take artifacts from ancient sites and just stores them within the personal library of her mansion to stare at while she sips on her morning tea (did I forget to mention that she's british?). Rouge the Bat also takes artifacts and jewels for herself. Oh yeah, and Lara Croft is super-rich. The two of them can keep all the gems and statues for themselves without needing to worry about money! Just two girls traveling the world looking for ancient burial sites and tombs to raid.

Pro #2: They Cover Each Others’ Weaknesses In Combat Rouge the Bat is a bat. She can fly and zip around the battlefield when things get a little hairy. Using her powerful legs, she can deliver swift spin kicks that are capable of drilling through hard surfaces with her Pick Nails! She was even able to go toe-to-toe with Knuckles and end the duel in a stalemate. Lara Croft on the other hand is a master markswoman. She is capable of pinpoint accuracy when dual wielding pistols, firing an assault rifle, or hunting animals with a bow. They completely cover each other's weaknesses when it comes to fighting enemies, whether they be agents of GUN, badniks, or members of the Fiamma Nera! If anyone gets too close to Lara, she can count on Rouge to kick their butts. They truly make an amazing battle couple.

Pro #3: Chest Counterweights Now before anyone gets weird about this, it’s a defined physical trait that both of these ladies have larger than average breasts. This actually works out very well for the both of them as a pairing! Because Rouge is much smaller than Lara, she can actually be carried on Lara's back in her backpack when traveling.

As shown in the above diagram, by going back to back, these two can offset the heavy weight that rests on their fronts and they act as perfect counterweights for each other. This way they can help mitigate the pains that can come with having a large chest.

Now, when reading through the countless fanart, fanfiction, and discussion of this pairing I can only find one real con that persists between iterations:

Con #1: Rouge Won’t Settle Down! Rouge the Bat is non-committal! Who could ever hope to keep her chained down when she has wings and was born to fly? It’s definitely a problem for this couple, but personally, I think they can slay that dragon. After all, Lara has experience in slaying dragons. Maybe she can locate the Dagger of Xian stuck in this dragon and pull it out again! 

That brings us to the end of the latest entry in our Ship Study series! I hope you all enjoyed it. After researching it, I find this ship quite enjoyable, and I think Lanolin is a big fan too! Thanks for reading everyone, I promise I will work on getting the first two entries back up in full as soon as I can. Based on my data, I already know which couple will be the subject of Study #4. I’ll leave you with a hint, but I think for a lot of you it will be a dead giveaway: both of these mystery solvers always find the truth. Say goodbye Lanolin!

Notes for a fan sequel to Yellow Submarine

Plot:

When the now-human Jeremy shows up in the Squareverse, the Beatles travel back to the Fabuverse to return him safely to Pepperland, only to get involved in a fallout between Cerulio, the Chief Blue Meanie, and an old flame of his, Vermilia, the Chief Red Maniac. Cerulio has been framed for an attempt on Jeremy's life, so with Jeremy clueless as to who did it, the Fab 4 set out to solve the mystery. Along the way, they uncover an insidious plot by the pompous Mr. Mustard, and so have to save Pepperland again… with a little help from their friends.

New Characters

-The Red Maniacs, an all-woman army inspired by Soviet Russia, led by the Chief Red Maniac, Vermilia Alroy Van LaRouge, old flame of Cerulio Gormaiin Von D’Indigo (the Chief Blue Meanie).

The Red Maniacs include:

Pimpernelle (referencing the Scarlet Pimpernel), Vermilia's second in command,

the Red Shirts, soldiers who are tolerant of music,

the Compact Dusters, tall playboy bunny girls who dust their victims with compact powder to sedate them,

the Biting Backmouths, girls with chomping mouths on the backs of their heads (Inspired by the Japanese Futakuchi Onna),

the Snack Snatchers, parrot harpies who can mimic voices and whose specialty is stealing food and foodstuffs,

Doberman Pinschers who are analogous to the Meanie Bulldogs,

Hopping Poppets, doll-like harlequins who can hop at incredible speeds in pursuit of targets,

Whip Service Girls, who have stretchy tentacles for arms,

Secret Seducers, femme fatales with guns in their throats,

Cargo Drivers, Maniacs with carts for lower halves, who can carry the heaviest of loads,

and, of course, Vermilia's own Flying Glove, a long, serpentine creature.

-Mr. Mustard, the pompous and unscrupulous big bad of the sequel, who aims to find the fabled Inner Light and take over Pepperland.

-The Naughties, Spade, Club and Diamond, who work for Mustard.

-Heart, a former Naughty who betrayed Mustard long ago. She knows who tried to have Jeremy killed.

-The Four Gods, who created the Fabuverse and everything in it.

The Four Gods are:

the Sun King, who lords over the other three gods,

the Moon Queen, his wife,

the Fool, who lives on a hill and oversees the heavens,

and Jeremy's mother, Etoile, youngest of the gods. She created Jeremy by sewing a stuffed gremlin doll and bringing him to life as a real gremlin.

-Mr. Kite, Etoile's wacky, fun loving assistant.

-Rose "Rosie" Harrietta Boob, Jeremy's eccentric daughter whom he created by accident, and Etoile's granddaughter. She considers the Chief Blue Meanie her uncle, while Max has a crush on her.

-Goggley, a Cockney-accented, flightless wyvern with large eyes, who is a fast runner. He comes from the Sea of Monsters.

WARNING! SPOILERS BELOW! You have been warned.

Heart reveals that Mustard was the one who had his Naughties capture Jeremy and frame Cerulio. He planned to have the Pepperlanders lose faith in the Meanies in order to take their place as the secondary guardians of Pepperland and gain the Lord Mayor's permission to find the Inner Light. The original plan was to make it seem like the Meanies killed Jeremy, who was supposed to be thrown into the Sea of Monsters via the Sea of Holes. However, the Naughties were startled by Mama Bear Etoile, and accidentally dropped the sack holding Jeremy into the wrong hole, one that led to the river Mersey, where Jeremy was rescued by the Beatles, becoming human in the Squareverse's atmosphere.

Very little in the Fabuverse know it (It's basically ancient and forgotten knowledge), but the "Inner Light" is a term used to refer to a gremlin's heart. The Inner Light that Mustard is searching for to obtain the power to take over Pepperland is actually Jeremy's heart, which the poor Boob literally can't live without. As soon as Mustard finds this out, he kidnaps Jeremy to extract it, leaving it up to the Beatles and their friends to rescue him in the climax.

A surprise original song written by the fans for Rose to sing!

Cerulio and Vermilia get back together as a battle couple.

In the end, Rose uses her own transformation magic to turn Mustard into a Pomeranian.

Hadelinde was pulled from her pondering at the sound of the great hall doors closing once more, this time revealing someone of great interest. Over the past couple months, Hadelinde had been hearing murmurs among both her brigade and the castles servants about a French LaRouge lady. This had peaked her interest, for she had not been in the presence of a French speaker since she was but 12 years of age. She continued to steadily observe the lady with a quiet determination.
