Maddie wasn’t snooping.
She honestly wasn’t.
She really was just trying to be a good big sister and help her brother and future brother-in-law out by dropping off a package for Buck that had been sent to her house due to cheaper shipping (“why is it like twenty bucks cheaper, you live twenty minutes away”). Buck and Tommy’s place was on her daily commute to the dispatch center and it just made sense for her to take the package over to them since neither of them had the time since coming back from their weekend getaway to Vegas two weeks ago.
Both of them were on shift but she still had a house key from when she’d been watering their plants while they were gone.  So it should’ve just been a quick in and out and she’d be on her way home.
And then she stopped and got the mail.  See she really was just trying to be a good big sister— truly, she was.  The mailman had been pulling away from the curb as she pulled up and in the spirit of being helpful she stopped by the mailbox to grab their mail.
And out of habit in grabbing her own mail she started flipping through it as she set the package down on the table in the entryway.
And that’s when she saw it.
The envelope.
The return address was a P.O. Box from Las Vegas, Nevada with it addressed to Mr. Evan Buckley and Mr. Thomas Kinard of Los Angeles, California.
And printed in big black lettering across crisp white paper, right above Buck and Tommy’s names.
REGARDING MARRIAGE DOCUMENTS
Maddie stared at it.
And then she stared at it some more.
She put the mail down in the mail bowl and blinked, scrubbed at her eyes to make sure she just didn't have something in her eye and blinked again. She picked the envelope back up and stared at it again.
Yup— still there.
MARRIAGE
She put the envelope back down and hummed for a few moments before she pulled out her phone and pulled up Buck’s name.
Maddie:  Hey… when you went to Vegas, did you happen to get married?
Buck responded back almost instantly.
Buck:  …
Buck:  why would you think that???
Maddie quickly snapped a picture of the envelope and sent it back to him.
Buck: oh
Buck: uh… hahah surprise?

Sarah K. Burris at Raw Story:
MSNBC host Rachel Maddow attacked the former president in a brief commentary on Tuesday, addressing comments he had made over the weekend. The MSNBC host joined colleague Nicolle Wallace to discuss the speech Donald Trump gave in Las Vegas, Nevada, over the weekend that left even Republicans scratching their head. Trump retold a story he mentioned in October 2023, but this time, the comments were more disjointed and garnered more attention. The ex-president argued electric vehicles are dangerous because they can electrocute people if they contact water. The vehicles run on batteries — which are in all cars, gas, diesel, or otherwise. But in Trump's mind, batteries are dangerous. Think of a boat powered by batteries and not fuel. If the boat sinks, passengers could be electrocuted. Like all cars, boats also have batteries to run electronics on board, such as radios.
[...] "I think he's taken it two dozen times on TV — and we started counting, and we found ten, and then we just stopped counting, I mean, he's obsessed with talking about his own [mental] acuity in a campaign that seems obsessed with talking about Joe Biden's age," said Wallace. She asked how people dealt with Trump during the first debate. "The shark-boat thing, to me, I think it has two points of resonance," said Maddow. "And one of them is, what the heck is he talking about? This is weird. This doesn't make any sense. He's really, really, frequently incoherent. And when he's not incoherent, he's speaking in terms that are like pornographically violent when he is trying to rile up his audience. I mean, he speaks in ways that I think would be shocking to a lot of Republican people if they could stand to listen to him longer than they do and if news organizations could responsibly broadcast more."
Appearing on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House on Tuesday as a guest, Rachel Maddow noted to host Nicolle Wallace that Donald Trump has increasingly become not only “frequently incoherent” but also “violently pornographic.”

Watch: A Bat Lands On THE PRETTY RECKLESS Singer TAYLOR MOMSEN's Leg During Concert In Spain
Tumblr media
According to Metal Journal, a bat landed on the left leg of THE PRETTY RECKLESS singer Taylor Momsen during her band's May 29 performance at Estadio La Cartuja in Seville, Spain as the support act for AC/DC.
After playing the fifth song of THE PRETTY RECKLESS's set, "Witches Burn", Taylor addressed the crowd, saying: "You guys are pointing at something, and I wanna know what you're saying." She then looked down at her leg and noticed the bat, after which she return to the microphone and exclaimed: "There's a fucking flying bat on my leg right now. Can someone help me, please? I must really be a witch."
A stage quickly hang came over a removed the bat, prompting Taylor to say: "Gracias. It's all right. And the bat's fine. He's gonna be my new friend," before adding, "Holy fuck."
Guitarist Ben Phillips then told the crowd: "Well, that hasn't happened before." Momsen went on to say: "I'm telling you. I'm a fucking witch. I attract the bats. Someone, bring out a black cat. It's gonna be great."
Phillips said to the audience, "Gracias for pointing it out," before Momsen added: "I thought you were pointing at my SOUNDGARDEN bracelet. And I was, like, 'Oh. Fucking they like SOUNDGARDEN. Awesome."
During an appearance on the May 6 episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", Taylor was asked about the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for THE PRETTY RECKLESS's fifth album. She said: "I don't have [release] dates for you, but we booked — we've locked up the studio for eight months. It takes us a while to make a record. But it was going amazingly [before we paused the sessions in order to hit the road]. Hopefully when we pick back up in September, it'll be the same kind of flow and everything will just jell. But a lot of it's written. I'm sure that more will be written when these experiences happen and then new songs [arise] out of them. So I'm sure that there'll be some more songs coming. But I don't have dates. But it was going great, and we had just started; we really haven't started at all, but there's written stuff. So that's a start, I guess. But as far as recording, we hadn't really gotten into it yet."
This past January, THE PRETTY RECKLESS shared a photo of Taylor in the studio with Jonathan Wyman, who co-produced THE PRETTY RECKLESS's latest album, 2021's "Death By Rock And Roll", apparently confirming that Wyman has re-teamed with the group for the upcoming LP.
In a May 2023 interview with Ronni Hunter of the 99.7 The Blitz radio station, Momsen revealed that she and her THE PRETTY RECKLESS bandmates had commenced work on the follow-up to "Death By Rock And Roll".
"We're in a great headspace," she said. "We're just having fun with it, and wrapping up the tour cycle of 'Death By Rock And Roll'. And then new record — and it's next chapter. We've already kind of started it… We've gotten into a studio; we've stepped foot into a studio. So that's saying something for us."
THE PRETTY RECKLESS is supporting AC/DC on the legendary hard rock band's spring/summer 2024 European tour. Momsen and her bandmates also opened for THE ROLLING STONES on May 11 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In November 2022, THE PRETTY RECKLESS released a new collection of music, "Other Worlds", via Fearless Records. The effort saw the group delivering its first proper acoustic recordings, unexpected covers and other reimaginings.
"Death By Rock And Roll" was made available in February 2021 via Fearless Records in the U.S. and Century Media Records in the rest of the world.
Upon release, "Death By Rock And Roll" topped multiple sales charts — including Billboard's Top Albums, Rock, Hard Music, and Digital charts. The record also yielded three back-to-back No. 1 singles — "Death By Rock And Roll", "And So It Went" (featuring Tom Morello of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE) and "Only Love Can Save Me Now" (featuring Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron of SOUNDGARDEN). The band has tallied seven No. 1 singles at the rock format throughout its career.
"Death By Rock And Roll" was THE PRETTY RECKLESS's first album to be made without longtime producer Kato Khandwala, who died in April 2018 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
THE PRETTY RECKLESS formed in 2009 and consists of Momsen, Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins.
In 2021, Momsen — who rose to fame portraying the character of edgy little sister Jenny Humphrey on The CW's "Gossip Girl" — described "Death By Rock And Roll" in an interview with ABC Audio as a "battle cry for life and for hope."
"I think that that's something that we can all use a little bit more of, especially right now," she said. "We could always use a little more hope, and we could always use a little more rock and roll."

Las Vegas police on Tuesday arrested eight teenagers on murder charges in connection with the death of Jonathan Lewis, a 17-year-old who was pummeled by a mob of his classmates in an alley outside their high school, authorities said.
The eight suspects charged with murder are between 13 and 17 years old, said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jason Johansson in a news conference on Tuesday. Police along with the district attorney's office are beginning the process to charge them as adults. Johansson added that there's no evidence indicating the attack was "a hate crime."
On Nov. 1, students from Rancho High School, including Jonathan, met in an alley just across the street from the campus to fight over "stolen wireless headphones and, possibly, a stolen marijuana vape pen," Johansson said. Police believe the items were stolen from Jonathan's friend but once they were all in the alley, it was Jonathan who fought instead.
Johansson said as soon as the first punch was thrown, 10 people swarmed Jonathan, pulled him to the ground and began kicking, punching and stomping him.
After the fight, a passerby found the teenager unconscious in the alley and carried him to the school, where staff performed CPR. First responders rushed him to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where it was soon determined that he had suffered "non-survivable head trauma," Johansson said. Jonathan died several days later.
Police search for two more suspects, ask public for help
Videos of the incident – called "extremely disturbing" and "void of humanity" by police officials – circulated social media and were used by investigators to identify eight of the 10 suspects. On Tuesday, police and the FBI coordinated arrests of the eight students and executed search warrants at nine homes throughout Las Vegas. Johansson said clothing worn by teenagers in the video and cellphones were recovered.
Las Vegas police will be releasing photos of the remaining suspects and urged the public to assist investigators in identifying them. Johansson asked that people submit footage of the incident to police and called on parents to speak with their children about the videos, which have been shared widely across multiple social media platforms.
"If you're a mentor with youth, if you're a parent, you have to assume that your kids have seen this video ... don't put your head in the sand," Johansson said. "Please talk with your kids about it and explain – people need to know right from wrong and that this act was heinous."
Jonathan's father seeks 'deeper justice'
Jonathan Lewis Sr., an electrician who lives in Austin, Texas, said his son was "a hero" who stuck up for his friend.
"That's just the kind of person he was," Lewis, 38, told USA TODAY. He described his son as an avid hip-hop fan who liked to make digital art.
Lewis said when he got the phone call that Jonathan was attacked and in the hospital, he could "could barely walk."
His family arranged to get him a flight to Las Vegas, where he and Jonathan's mother stayed at their son's bedside for days. During that time, they started planning a foundation that would address youth violence issues through counseling, mentorships and after-school programs.
Lewis created a website for the foundation, Team Jonathan, and is beginning to work on what he hopes becomes a nonprofit that'll prevent incidents like what happened to his son.
"Justice is a much much deeper issue to me than these children go to prison," Lewis said. "This is an all-encompassing issue that involves all of humanity and how we behave and the lack of empathy and compassion that we have. I just feel like my son's legacy deserves a deeper justice."

Trapped
To her credit, Joey isn’t panicking. Yet. There are dried tear tracks on her face, but she’s not screaming or yelling.
Maybe it’s just practical. Nico had sure as hell screamed when that silver trap snapped shut on his leg, and no one came running. Maybe she’s already figured that out.
Joey is never one to waste her energy on a lost cause.
But Nico doesn’t know when to give up.
He lunges at the vamp beside her, trying to draw attention away from Joey and onto himself. He’s pretty sure she’s been bound to the dual I-beam support pole that’s one of the few parts still standing in this old factory, but if he can give her half a chance to get away, he’ll take it.
All he succeeds in doing is hitting the end of the chain that is apparently welded to one of the floor beams that’s now buried under a dense tangle of rank grass and decaying weeds. Which is also how he missed seeing the trap waiting for him.
That, and he was paying a little too much attention to Joey, and the monster holding a silver-bladed kukri to her throat, to watch where he was stepping.
He can’t pry the trap off his leg. Every surface is coated in silver. Touching it burns his hands. The kind of grip he’d need to pry it off would leave him in so much pain he’d never be strong enough to manage it.
He can feel the trap’s teeth sinking deeper into his leg with every move he makes, but still straining to reach the flat piece of rusting steel he can see beneath another tangle of brownish leaves. If he doesn’t have to touch the trap…
The vamp steps forward, glances down at the exact piece of metal Nico’s fingers are inches from, then catches it with his boot, sending it flying, clattering, to the far end of the crumbling room.
Nico bellows something between a scream and a roar, lunging at the vamp but nowhere near close to touching him. He falls back to the floor, leg burning as the trap’s teeth dig in even further. The more he struggles, the worse it will be.
He’s not sure exactly how this day went so badly wrong, but he does know when it did.
He’d thought it was taking Joey a long time to finish up on the third floor. But after he’d walked through every room calling for her, he’d found her mop bucket next to smashed glass with a note taped to the mop handle.
An address, and a warning. To come alone or get his mentee back in a coffin for good.
“What do you want from me?”
“I want my fledgling back.” The vamp snarls. “And you made sure I couldn’t take him.”
Nico’s first mentee was a mother of three, Roxie Conover. His second was Javier Avila. The third is Joey.
They’d never been able to determine who Javy Avila’s sire was.
Well, they know now.
Not that Nico has a name to put with the face.
A face staring down at him while holding a blade to the neck of his mentee.
“You took something of mine,” the vamp hisses. “Now, I’m going to take something of yours.”
“Don’t you touch her. You can do whatever you want to me, just let her go.”
“Oh, no, that just wouldn’t do. I want you to know that you are powerless to stop me. Nothing you can do but watch.” He steps back slightly and swings the blade with a practiced arc, and Joey flinches back from it. “Trapped, just like I was in one of the hunters’ cages, while you took away what was mine.”
It’s starting to make a certain amount of sense. Javy was bitten in Nevada. Nevada is quite literally the wild west of hunting. There’s one official agency operating in Las Vegas, but the rest of the state is more or less patrolled by vigilantes with all sorts of fringe attitudes toward vampires, who are hard to find, harder to shut down in any legal or effective manner. A group who likes holding onto their captures and experimenting with potential cures must have had this guy.
Nico can’t say he’ll be too sorry if this vamp left a trail of destruction in the wake of his escape, but nothing excuses what he’s doing right now.
He wouldn’t be surprised if both the knife and the trap are some of those vigilantes’ gear that this vamp decided to bring along; they’re not even close to common usage among vamps, but they’re exactly the kind of thing hunters who skirt the edges of legality are known to use. He’s not sure what group it is that favors this combination of weapons, traps, and long term captivity, but Sierra Stoker and her team probably know.
If he lasts long enough to pass that information along, he imagines they’ll be more than willing to at least find out if this guy left anyone standing.
But at the moment, it’s not his survival he's most concerned about.
“Listen to me. She’s not my fledgling. She’s not mine.”
“But you care about all these like they are. See, that’s the problem. You traitors are ruining the natural order. Sire and fledgling. How it’s meant to be. You step in, on the side of the humans that hunt our kind down like animals, and you separate us from our children. Weaken our bonds. Make it easier for the humans to pick us off, one by one.”
“Then you don’t wanna kill her. She’s one o’ us.”
“Don’t you get it yet? She’s not one of mine.” The vamp snarls. “Which means killing her is doing my fledglings a favor.”
The knife moves away from Joey’s neck, but Nico knows that’s not a good thing. Staking is the preferred method of killing vampires, since it’s far easier to conceal stakes than a knife big enough to do the job right, but decapitation will do the trick as long as you impale the heart after. It’s a more complicated, but flashier method, and enough Sunrisers favored it that Nico knows the basics. Like the fact that to get a quick, clean cut, you need the arc of a wide swing. Trying to cut with the blade close to the body is time consuming and messy.
He knows, without a shadow of a doubt, that he is about to watch Joey die.
This time, the metal pinning him down is wrapped around his ankle instead of stabbed through his thigh, and this time the terrified face of the person he promised to protect but can’t is Joey, not Vin, but the past and the present are blurring around him, and he can’t quite tell if he’s in a warehouse in New York or a derelict factory in LA.
All he knows is, he’s going to have another person’s death on his conscience for the rest of his unnatural life.
Then Nico hears a footstep behind him.
“Put down the knife.”
He’s got to be hallucinating from the silver in his blood, because there’s no way Maira Lawson just happened to appear exactly when he needs backup.
The vamp moves in a flash, putting himself behind Joey and holding the knife to her throat, pressed tightly again, so much so that Nico can see and smell a bead of blood welling up and sliding down the blade.
“I think maybe you should put your weapons down.”
“Last chance.” Lawson’s voice is even. She’s a negotiator, a highly skilled diplomat. She knows when to push and when to back off.
Nico has to remind himself that Joey’s life is in the hands of the best possible person for the job.
The knife presses a little deeper, and a drop of blood splashes onto the cracked cement just as the crack of gunfire echoes through the space.
The vamp drops the knife and drops like a stone, howling.
Several figures move at once, feet shuffling while snapping repeated warnings of “don’t step in another one of those traps” with “you watch your own step” as the reply.
Someone kneels next to him, hands working around the trap’s springs and jaws. He’s dimly aware that it’s Kira Burke, who he’s passingly familiar with from the agency, but he’s paying the most attention to Joey. She’s slumped against whatever cable was holding her to the support beam, almost unmoving as two more of the hunters free her. Someone cuffs the vamp, then drags him away, but it’s hard to see anything right now with the lights the humans need in order to see cutting back and forth across the area, occasionally swinging to hit him directly in the eyes.
He just needs to see that Joey’s okay.
“I’ve got it. Pull your leg out, now.” Burke’s voice is strained, she’s got the jaws of the trap pried apart but he knows she won’t be able to hold it forever. He yanks his leg free and struggles to stand, shifting weight off his bad leg. He has to get to Joey.
He takes one step before he stumbles.
“She’s alright. Sit down before you fall down,” Lawson orders, stepping in front of him.
He does, mostly because if he fell, he’d fall on her, and no one would ever let him live that down.
She’s brought the cavalry, looks like. John and Sierra Stoker, and parts of both their teams. Burke from John’s, as well as Barrett from Sierra’s. John’s wrestling the vamp into cooperation, while Sierra and Barrett work on freeing Joey. Actually, it looks like Sierra’s doing most of the work getting her loose, and Barrett is keeping her calm. Of all of them aside from Nico, he’s the one she knows best.
He hasn’t actually realized Jemison is here as well until he catches a glimpse of the guy climbing down from a crumbling section of wall, slinging a well-worn rifle, without a scope, across his shoulder.
“Don’t you wear glasses?” Nico asks as the kid walks up. Not that he’s not grateful, but the slightest missed shot could have put that bullet through Joey’s skull.
“For reading. I’m farsighted.” Jemison replies. “I was barking squirrels with my dad since I was old enough to hold the rifle steady.”
Nico doesn’t want to even ask what that means.
He’s just glad that today, it means Joey is alive.
“Heard you were having a little trouble.” Lawson bends down beside him, inspecting the damage done by the silver-toothed trap with a grimace. “After he tried to get into the Avilas’ house, I got a call from Javy. He said his sire had shown up and tried to make Javy let him in, but thankfully Javy was able to refuse and block him out. We sent a team to his house as soon as we heard. Everyone’s okay, just shaken up. Unfortunately, given Javy’s one of the people who drives his work van home, I guess this vamp saw it in the driveway. The team found one of the windows punched out, and the clipboard with staff schedules that Javy said he always kept in the glove box was gone.” She frowns. “I tried to call you and warn you someone would probably be coming after you, but never could get hold of you.”
Probably because he left his phone behind at the last job in a rush when he realized Joey was missing.
“H-how’d you find us?”
“Nico. When you were getting your business started, who gave you vans?”
“You guys. You were replacin’ half the motor pool and…” He trails off. “You never pulled the trackers. You sneaky…”
“Don’t say what I think you’re going to say,” Lawson replies. “It was in the agreements you signed when you leased the fleet.”
Damn. He really needs to start paying more attention to fine print.
Although in this case, it probably saved him and Joey.
The vamp is hauled out past them, snarling and snapping at Nico until John Stoker wrestles him into the back of a holding van that’s just pulled up to what used to be a loading bay door.
“He won’t be a problem much longer. Once we match his venom to Javy’s kit, he’ll get the stake.”
Honestly, after what this vamp has been through, that might be a mercy.
Quick footsteps clatter across the open space, and then Joey is collapsing onto the floor beside Nico, a hand finding his and wrapping cold fingers through his own.
“What’s a vamp doing running around with gear from the Hawthorne Hedge?” Sierra Stoker asks, holding the knife up and tilting it as the light in Lawson’s hand catches the blade, running her fingers over a pair of branching, entangled H’s stamped into the metal near the hilt.
Knew she’d recognize the handiwork.
“Same with the trap,” Jemison answers, flipping it over and pointing out the stamp on the bottom of the plate. “Maybe he was a vigilante who got turned?”
“From what I could tell,” Nico manages, trying to sit up and wincing when it jars his leg, “he was one of their captives, managed to break himself out. There might not be anything left of that group, depending on how thorough he was.”
“Looks like we’re going to be heading to Nevada to check it out. Again.” Stoker grins. “And it’s gonna be my turn as road trip DJ.”
Jemison and Barrett both groan, but the Stokers just high-five as John returns from the van.
Sierra’s team move off in a cluster, discussing their next move, and Burke walks up with two small packs of blood in her hand.
“You’re both injured. No arguments.” She places a pack in each of their hands, then backs off, along with the others, to let the two of them feed in peace.
Nico ignores the blood in favor of putting an arm around Joey’s shoulder. She’s probably in some sort of shock, and while the blood will take care of the physical damage from tonight, there are deeper wounds he’s worried about.
“Hey. You okay?”
“No. I will be, but…not right now.” She’s shaking, the tension bleeding out of her. “You?”
It’s probably not wise to lie to her if she’s been honest with him. “Not really.” He pulls her in against him, running a hand over her hair the way he’s seen her do with Olivia. “I’m sorry.” It’s his fault. It’s all his fault. This vamp took her because of him. Because of what he’s done. “This is my fault.”
“For helping someone else just like me?” Joey’s voice is muffled in his sweatshirt. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
He doesn’t have anything to say in response to that. Just sits there and holds her and wishes doing the right thing didn’t have so many consequences.

Ronnie Radke and his Popular Monster
Ronnie Radke is a prominent figure in the world of rock and metal music, known for his band Falling in Reverse. Born on December 15, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Radke first rose to fame as the lead vocalist of Escape the Fate.
In the early 2000s, he co-founded Escape the Fate, which quickly gained popularity in the post-hardcore scene with their energetic performances and Radke’s distinctive vocal style.
However, Radke's career took a downturn due to legal issues. In 2008, he was involved in an altercation that led to a man's death, resulting in a prison sentence. His time in prison led to his departure from Escape the Fate. Despite this setback, Radke was determined to make a comeback, working on himself to improve both as an artist and a person, resurrecting from the ashes. After his release, he formed Falling in Reverse in 2008. Their debut album, The Drug in Me Is You (2011), showcased Radke's lyrical honesty and willingness to address his troubled past. Falling In Reverse published two more albums, always facing to the strong criticism adressed to Ronnie in many ways, as in live concerts and Twitter.
Radke’s musical style is known for its versatility, often blending elements of metalcore, rap and pop. He has a unique ability to fuse aggressive, high-energy music with melodic hooks. His lyrics mostly explore themes of personal struggle and redemption, reflecting his own life experiences.
Ronnie Radke remains a significant and influential figure in modern metal music. His story is one of highs and lows, marked by both personal and professional challenges, and yet, despite everything, he has maintained a loyal fanbase and continues to be a prominent voice in the music industry.
Moving on to the latest Falling In Reverse work, Popular Monster is their fourth studio album released on August 16, 2024.
This project was presented in January 2022 as a 5 songs compilation EP called Neon Zombie, with the songs Watch the World Burn, Popular Monster, Voices In My Head, ZOMBIFIED and Ronald, all of them released as singles before the album. These tracks became hits, gaining great popularity and quickly becoming one of the band’s most popular songs. In fact, when Watch the World Burn was released the band entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time. Later on the last single they published before the album was All My Life. The album includes the tracks inside Neon Zombie, All My Life and the album itself tracks, Prequel, Bad Guy, Trigger Warning and NO FEAR, and moreover his Papa Roach cover, Last Resort - Reimagined.
Pretty much all of the tracks have a common mixture with heavy metal, rap and trap beats, which is admirable how these genres are cleanly blended in the pieces. The album themes focus on his anger against the amount of hate he has received during his career. From my perspective this album is very well accomplished since this rage has been squeezed to create songs full of energy, heavy riffs and a great expressivity in Ronnie’s vocals and rap.
My personal favorite tracks are Bad Guy and Trigger Warning, which has an unexpected piano solo.
Overall, this album was very highly anticipated and didn’t disappoint, and it's proof that keeping moving when you’re in your worst moment is what really leads to success.

Gateway Auto Court (Motel), 928 S Las Vegas Blvd – 1930s.
Built in 1931 by Gabriel Paher (Pahor) and son Stanley M. Paher, the original court consisted of 27 Spanish tiled cabins with car ports. Rooms without bedding were $1 a night. The motel was across the street from Gateway service station, different ownership.
In the early 50s, no later than '54, the original auto court was remodeled into the modern Gateway Motel consisting of motel wings and lobby wrapping around a parking lot. A new neon sign was installed at the motel. The total number of rooms was 45 by the end of the 60s. Cottonwood trees planted in '32, died in the 60s after then underground water levels fell.
Gateway Press was formed at the motel's address to publish Nevada Ghost Towns & Mining Camps ('70) by Stanley W. Paher, grandson and son of the original owner/builders.
Stanley M. sold the motel in '72. The property changed hands over the decades, and in 2024 was sold to The Siegel Group, who announced plans to demolish the motel.

Anthony Okelberry, Nevada inmate 1254490, born 2002, incarceration intake in 2022 at age 19, sentenced to life with possibility of parole
Murder, Use of a Deadly Weapon
Hursey Addison was working as an unarmed security guard, completing a crossword puzzle, when a 16-year-old boy executed him “for no reason,” a Las Vegas judge said.
“This is a unique situation. This is an execution. There is no other way to describe it,” Senior Judge David Barker said during a sentencing hearing for Anthony Okelberry.
Barker sentenced Olkeberry, who was 19 at the time of sentencing, to a maximum term of life in prison, although he will be eligible for parole in 18 years.
Okelberry pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a deadly weapon for the 75-year-old man’s killing, court records show.
On April 22, 2019, Okelberry shot the Vietnam War veteran in the head at point-blank range while he was in his vehicle, completing a crossword puzzle and patrolling an apartment complex, prosecutor Christopher Hamner said.
Okelberry dragged Addison’s body out of the car, stole his wallet, photographed the body and sent the picture to a friend, prosecutors have said.
He later tried to use Addison’s credit card to withdraw $500 from an ATM, where he was caught on surveillance video. Police arrested Okelberry at Del Sol High School on April 25, 2019, and found a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun in his waistband.
Once he was arrested, Okelberry tried to pin the killing on a homeless man, Hamner said. Investigators found Okelberry’s DNA on the gun used to kill Addison, and he was in possession of some of the security guard’s belongings when he was arrested at the high school, prosecutors have said.
Hamner said Okelberry likely will be eligible for parole at age 34, but he needs to be supervised for the rest of his life if released, because “this community needs to keep its eyes on him.”
“Anthony Okelberry decided, because he wanted to find a way to get some quick money, to walk up to this unarmed man, shoot him in the head and steal his wallet and his credit cards,” the prosecutor said. “That is terrifying that a 16-year-old young man would think any of that would be appropriate.”
Okelberry, who appeared in court through a video call, promised to “do better,” as his voice cracked with emotion when addressing the judge.
“I understand that some things are unforgivable, but I hope that one day everyone can see that’s not who I really am,” he said.
Defense attorney Craig Mueller, who argued against lifetime supervision for Okelberry if he is paroled, said Okelberry has displayed “reflective and insight capabilities” he did not have as a 16-year-old.
“There is no excuse,” Mueller said. “I offer none, and I don’t have any insight other than just extraordinarily immature and poor judgment.”
Addison’s son, Wallace, told the judge that his father was a “hard-working man” who inspired him to go into the military.
“He just wanted to work hard all his life and provide for his family,” Wallace Addison said.
The son told the judge that his family wanted Okelberry to have a life sentence “hanging over his head,” because it was too soon to know if he will mature.
“We’re not wanting to forget, and we don’t want this to ever happen to any other person,” Wallace Addison said.
Okelberry’s own family was in the courtroom Friday, some crying while listening to the hearing. Wallace Addison said that while his family was “ready to forgive” Okelberry, he struggled to understand why the teenager committed the crime when he had a large support system.
“If you know what love is, why would you do this?” he said.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Nevada judge accepted the plea deal agreement for several Las Vegas teens accused of killing their high school classmate Tuesday morning.
Judge Linda Marquis accepted the plea deal for the four teens who were in adult court, and then were transferred to juvenile court, in the case of Jonathan Lewis’s death.
Damien Hernandez, Dontral Beaver, Gianni Robinson, and Treavion Randolph all pleaded guilty to voluntarily manslaughter. As a result of the plea, their criminal juvenile records will be sealed.
The four teens were initially charged as adults with murder and conspiracy.
The court initially declined to accept the plea because “the court wanted to ensure that any potential jurisdictional issues are addressed in the plea,” according to the Clark County District Attorney’s office. Those issues centered around sending the criminal case from the adult court system to the juvenile system.
Jonathan Lewis’s mother, Mellisa Ready, called the agreement disgusting and broke down in court Tuesday morning.
Ready previously criticized the plea agreement, claiming she wasn’t notified of the deal when the teens initially accepted it on Aug. 1.   “I would’ve disagreed with the deal entirely. They should be accountable as adults – they made an adult choice,” she said. “They knew that when they were stomping on my child’s head. That he was going to die as a result.”
The district attorney’s office put out a statement following the criticism, saying it stood by the negotiation, claiming it was “accurately conveyed to her…, prior to the court proceeding.”
There is no sentence range for the teens as part of the plea agreement, according to defense attorney Robert Draskovich. It is up to a judge to decide what the sentencing is for each teen.
Draskovich is representing Robinson. He said he is going to petition the judge to immediately release his client, since he has been in custody since his arrest in November of 2023.
