“Ladies and gentlemen, Charlie Fain!”

Charlie took some handshakes and head nods before he slid onto a barstool.

“Whiskey neat, please,” he mumbled, not looking up.

His drink was placed in front of him and he threw down a ten before he took a long gulp. The whole place was looking at him, he felt their eyes, and hated that it would be written about somewhere tomorrow.

“Shit time up there, eh?”

Charlie glared at the bartender. “I’ve had a shit time lately in general, so it’s not surprising.”

The bartender grinned and wiped off the counter in front of him. “Comedians have shit times always, don’t they? I’ve never met one who didn’t look like they needed a good fuck and a stiff drink.”

He laughed and took another sip of his whiskey. “Haven’t had much of the first lately and not nearly enough of the second.”

“Charlie Fain...fuckboy. Yes, I’ve heard the jokes. Gorgeous thing like you, doesn’t surprise me that a desperate old bitch like Newbury would hop on your cock.”

Charlie licked his lips and stared at the bartender’s mouth. “What’s your name?”

He laughed. “Now, now, Darling....what’s the fun in letting you know so soon? We have all night, don’t we?”

Charlie downed the rest of his drink in one quick gulp, slamming it down on the bar.

“I have one more set at ten,” he mumbled, “When do you get off?”

The bartender looked him up and down appreciatively. “Well I suppose I get off at ten, Charlie. You mind off I call you something else? I fucking hate that name.”

Charlie grinned. “I don’t mind, as long as you tell me yours.”

“Nigel,” he said, pouring him another drink and setting it down softly, “Ibanescu.”

“Nice to meet you, Nigel.”

“I hope you’re better the second time around, Gorgeous. I don’t go home with any old fucking hacks.”

Charlie licked his lips again. “I’ll try my best, Nigel.”

“Make me laugh, Darling. Or you won’t be making me do anything else.”
