20240116: the History of LEGO Castle day 016. 6011-1 Black Knight's Treasure (1985, 27 pieces, 17 different parts) The Black Knight's Treasure is another in a long string of wagons and carts, but this set has a number of unique parts and is the first example of the hinged treasure chest, which becomes a staple item in LEGO sets. The wagon features a black horse with a yellow harness pulling a red wagon with brown wheels. The back of the cart features a light gray treasure chest with a yellow saddle attached to the back. The minifigure for this set is a Black Falcon soldier with the standard blue torso with black arms and the silver and black halved falcon on a triangular shield print, plain black legs, carrying a brown spear and wearing a black axe wielder helmet. I can't adequately express how excited I was when LEGO sets starting coming with treasure chests that actually *looked* liked treasure chests and had an opening lid and treasure inside and everything! Though, the Black Knight's Treasure chest is empty, but since this was the first treasure chest, I think that's okay. This set is the only set with a light gray treasure chest. Another part completely unique to this set is the yellow horse harness. Additionally, the red 2x2 turn-table plate with three hinge attachments was only found in five sets from 1985-1997 (9452-1 Giant LEGO Topic Set, 6054-1 Dragon Wagon, 6027-1 Bat Lord's Catapult, and 6799-1 Showdown Canyon). This is the first set in this History of LEGO Castle series where I have neither the box, nor the instructions. Thankfully, it's a very small set. Leveraging the unique design and performance of the official major mannequin, Blue Racer Scale-Out MOC is totally re-built in a minifig-scale.

20240226: the History of LEGO Castle day 057. The Black Falcons 1984-1992 (6010 Supply Wagon, 6011 Black Knight's Treasure, 6021 Jousting Knights, 6030 Catapult, 6035 Castle Guard, 6041 Armor Shop, 6062 Battering Ram, 6067 / 10000 Guarded Inn, 6073 Knight's Castle, 6074 / 10039 Black Falcon's Fortress) If you've ever wondered whether all the LEGO Black Falcons sets from 1984-1992 would fit together, the answer is yes! The Black Falcons sets, specifically, are built on green normal plates and not the thin baseplate counterpart used in many of the early LEGO sets. These sets also were built with 1x1 technic bricks with center holes and connector pins, giving the idea that multiple sets could be combined to something larger. And it worked! This is honestly the first time I've tried it and all I had to do was mirror-build the wall for the 6062 Battering Ram. In order for me to include the set as a Black Falcons set, it either needed to have the standard Black Falcon blue torso with black arms and the black and silver falcon triangle print or the black and silver falcon triangle shields with yellow or blue borders. BrickLink says these are the Black Falcons sets: -6011 Black Knight's Treasure -6018 Battle Dragon -6030 Catapult -6035 Castle Guard -6062 Battering Ram -6073 Knight's Castle -6074 / 10039 Black Falcon's Fortress Rebrickable and BrickSet say these are the Black Falcons sets: -6011 Black Knight's Treasure -6030 Catapult -6035 Castle Guard -6062 Battering Ram -6073 Knight's Castle -6074 / 10039 Black Falcon's Fortress I didn't include 6018 because the scale mail torso was only used in the Black Knights sets, not the Black Falcons sets. I also added 6021, 6041, 6057, and 6067 because all of those include the blue torso with black arms Black Falcons torso, the blue torso with black arms knight torso, the black torso with black arms, or one of the falcon shields, all of which are more associated with either Black Falcons or Black Knights. I also included the 6010 Supply Wagon because it's the only truly neutral set across the entire LEGO Castle System. Combining all theses sets and seeing them make a bigger castle makes my younger me heart SO HAPPY :)

20240404: the History of LEGO Castle day 095. 6027 Bat Lord's Catapult (1997, 54 pieces, 33 different parts) Bat Lord's Catapult is a cart pulled by a black horse with a red harness and a black bat on its back sitting on a yellow 1x2 jumper plate with brown wagon wheels. The cart itself is based around a black 2x8 plate with two red 1x2 hinge bricks holding the second black 2x8 plate, used as a launcher for the brown 2x2x2 catapult barrel. This set comes with two new Fright Knights minifigures. -The first minifigure has a black axe wielder helmet, a yellow minifigure head with black bangs, beard, and mustache, a dark gray printed studded armor torso and dark gray arms, and red legs with a black belt. The minifigure is exceptionally talented, being able to wield both a black whip and a dark gray sword at the same time. -The second minifigure has a black Dragon Master / Dragon Knight helmet, a yellow minifigure head with bushy black goatee, pointed eyebrows, and corner black bangs, a printed black torso with dark gray and silver stripes with black arms, and dark gray legs with a black belt. While there aren't any new pieces outside the new torsos (the dark gray studded armor is also in 2538 Fright Knights Fire Cart, 6087 Witch's Magic Manor, and 6097 Night Lord's Castle and the dark gray and silver breastplate is also found in 6028 / 6029 Treasure Cart, 6031 Fright Force, 6087 Witch's Magic Manor, 6097 Night Lord's Castle, 6496 Whirling Time Warper, 6497 Twisted Time Train, and 9376 Castle Set from Education and Dacta). -The red 2x2 turn table with three finger joint attachment is only found in four other sets (6011 Black Knight's Treasure, 6056 Dragon Wagon, 6799 Showdown Canyon, and 9452 Education and Dacta Giant LEGO Topic Set). -The red horse harness with three finger joint turn-table attachment is found in five other sets (6022 Horse Cart, 6023 Maiden's Cart, 6038 Wolfpack Renegades, 6040 Blacksmith Shop, and 6042 Dungeon Hunters). -The ovoid bat shield is found in four other sets (6004 Crossbow Cart, 6087 Witch's Magic Manor, 6097 Night Lord's Castle, and 6497 Twisted Time Machine), one Education and Dacta set (9376 Castle Set), and two service packs (5383 Castle Accessories and 6031 Fright Force). This set was also part of Casbon-1 Castle Bonus Pack from 1998, along with 6008 Royal King and 6037 Witch's Magic Manor. 20240125: the History of LEGO Castle day 025. 6035-1 Castle Guard (1987, 52 pieces, 25 different parts) The Castle Guard is the first small Black Falcons set since the Black Knight's Treasure (6011-1) from 1985. It's a small guard white and red guard shack built on a green 6x8 plate. This is the first castle set which uses the octagonal 6x6 canopy, which to this point has really only been seen in space sets, and this is the ONLY set this part comes in red. The two minifigures for this set include a knight with a black torso with black arms and the silver breastplate pattern and black legs wearing a black front-grill knight helmet with a black three plume feather and carrying a black lance with a white flag and a Black Falcon soldier with a blue torso and black arms, the silver and black halved falcon pattern and black legs with a red belt. The black knight rides a black horse with a blue saddle. Back of the box builds for this set include jousting practice for the knight, a roadside tent, a guarded sitting tent, and a very elaborate saddle. This is another set from my younger days and one I enjoyed thoroughly because you could have a little outpost anywhere in your kingdom or the fantasy world you built with you LEGO bricks. The simple design makes this a very quick, easy build and the red and white makes for good accent colors.
