20230119: this is probably my favorite of the fire fighting sets so far. 6358: Snorkel Squad from 1987 with 141 pieces is in remarkable condition and looks like it’s never actually been built until I put it together for this picture. it’s always a really amazing experience to build something so old in such great condition but this was also a really fun set by itself. the truck is in about three different sections so it can actually drive around corners. there’s the crane feature, which allows the crane to move up and down and also to be extended. the bucket for the fire fighter is even pretty safe, with properly sized railings around the whole thing. overall, this is a really neat set and I’m very lucky to have picked it up :)

rating lego firetrucks: the eighties
#6366 Fire & Rescue Squad (1984)
not sure what the deal is with the little cab on wheels. 🚒 the main truck is decent, but we’ve already seen better. feeling weird about the disassembled fire extinguisher too. 🚒🚒
oh, we've entered the white helmet era! that’ll be standard for a while.
#6621 Fire Truck (1984)
not nearly as adorable as #6650. 🚒🚒
#1067 Community Vehicles (1985?)
this was definitely listed as a 1988 set when I went through the ambulances. hm.
anyway, better than the ambulance but not by enough to earn a higher rating. 🚒
#2611 Fire Engine (1985)
if I had a dollar for every pixel in this image I wouldn’t even have $26.11 but I think this is the same duplo firetruck again but with a “real” duplo figure instead of that terrifying thing from before. I presume the ladder can still be raised and lowered.
#6385 Fire House-I (1985)
similar to #6382 and the station itself seems a little nicer but both of the vehicles feel like downgrades. 🚒🚒🚒
#392 Fire Engine (1986)
god, the fabuland-esque basic figures were nearly as terrifying as the building-set-with-people figures. 😱
#6480 Hook and Ladder Truck (1986)
very solid design, and they were smart enough to use decorations to keep the battery box from making it look boring. and of course it makes light. and sound. you know since you might not have figured that out on your own. 🚒🚒🚒🚒
#557 Basic Building Set, 5+ (1987)
I can’t see that.
#2637 Fire Engine (1987)
duplo fire engine with firehose and extending ladder. 👶/👶
#3682 Fire Station (1987)
big man, walking in the park.
#6358 Snorkel Squad (1987)
another bucket truck and you can see how much lego design has changed since the last one. very good use of grill tiles to create a locking mechanism for the boom, and the articulated rear wheels are a nice touch. 🚒🚒🚒🚒
#6643 Fire Chief’s Truck (1988)
this would have been a better ambulance than some of the ambulances I wrnt over when I was rating ambulances. not really what I’m looking for in a “fire truck” but it does what it sets out to do. 🚒🚒🚒
#2658 Fire Station (1989)
I think one of my little brothers had the ladder truck introduced in this set when he was a baby. 👶/👶
