Spelling out Pierre de Ronsard. I for Iconoclasm. The 16th century is marked in France by the religious rift between Catholics and Huguenots. The wooden stalls in Le Mans Cathedral, carved in 1575-1576, replaced those destroyed during one of the 1562 iconoclastic riots that took place in France. Catherine de Medici is featured here with four of the ten royal children: French kings François II, Charles IX, and Henri III, and their sister Queen Margot. E for Exile. New project: diving into an exploration of the 16th century with initials (lettrines) inspired by contemporary representations.
