an introduction of sorts
Established in 1962 in mainland Nova Scotia, Dan & The Dandelions have been a classic on Canadian and American radio stations alike since their debut album. Starting off as a folk quartet in the late 1950s, The Dandelions have come a long ways.
Frontman, Dan Miller, was born and raised in a Nova Scotian farm off the Bay of Fundy. Growing up the oldest of 4 siblings and having both parents pass away at a young age, Dan has always been quite aware of his surroundings and place in society’s food chain. As a boy, Dan adored the music of Hank Snow, Wilf Carter, and Patsy Cline, even naming three barn cats after them. After being diagnosed with autism in the 90s, Dan begins fighting and protesting for the better treatment of children and testing of adults that may have been overlooked.
In 1959, Dan formed a small folk quartet called Miller, MacLaughlin, Murray, and Nixon. It had two school buddies, Simon Nixon and Craig “Crash” Murray, and his life-partner, Pete MacLaughlin(married 2006). After Crash had left the group, the other three renamed the band and began travelling across Canada eventually meeting bassist, Blanc Monet.
Simon Nixon was the band’s drummer, an orphaned southern boy adopted by his aunt and uncle in Nova Scotia. Dan and Simon met at 9 and 10 years old in a one-room schoolhouse. “We met the December of 1954– Simon had never seen the snow before, he was like a cactus in a snowy tundra,” said Dan in his 1994 autobiography, Dan Miller; Maritime Boy, Guitar-Wielding Hero. Simon married Scottish paranormal-investigator, Anne Abercrombie upon finding out she was pregnant with their first child. The couple have three children, Lenora (later Lennan), Esme and Celeste.
Pete MacLaughlin, a multi-instrumentalist, son of the CEO of MacLaughlin Oral Care and later husband of Dan Miller. On top of that, Pete is a devote animal activist and gay-rights activist after being outed at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Miller and MacLaughlin had been together since they were teenagers, the two had met during the summer of 1958 and began dating in 1961.
The last member to join was French-Canadian bassist, Hugo-Michel “Blanc” Monet. When he first joined the band, Blanc could barely speak English and was taught by his bandmates. He is the younger brother of famous model and radio personality, Colette Monet, the siblings grew up in an apartment in Québec city. Before joining The Dandelions, Monet was married to Melvina Harris, the two had no children. After his divorce with Melvina, Blanc married fellow musician, Natalie Benoit in 1969, they had one daughter, Avril Monet. A decade after Natalie’s death in 1973, Blanc married friend of the band’s, Jael Levi in 1983, they have one son, Antoine Monet-Levi, and Blanc began treating Jael’s daughter, Juniper Levi like his own.
The only girl in the band would be single mother, protest singer, and women’s rights activist Jael Levi. After being forced to marry at 16 her verbally abusive dear husband, James Hall, mysteriously died (she killed him and was never caught) the next year. Levi had her first child at 18, refusing to let the child have her dead father’s last name she was named Juniper Levi. Jael began writing songs and met Dan & The Dandelions in 1966 after their second album hit the charts.
Their east coast roots have most definitely influenced the band, the usage of fiddles and even bagpipes and the lyrics and stories of maritimers being woven into lyrics. Blending country, folk, and rock into a genre of their own.

Knives Out 2: The Glass Onion and And Then There Were None
Spoiler warning for The Glass Onion.
So, I watched The Glass Onion and absolutely loved it, I think even more than the original. Of course, as with all media I fall head over heels with, I dive into the Tumblr tag for it, and I've noticed something interesting. I've noticed a few people talking about how it draws from Clue, but I haven't found anyone talking about the parallels with And Then There Were None, which is interesting because of how clear they were for me. To be fair, I have acted in a community production of And Then There Were None, so I know it very well. I thought I'd go over what I noticed linking the two since there are just. So many threads guys.
So clearly the setting is the most obvious, an over the top mansion on an island which is unable to immediately be accessible to those on the mainland. The second is in some part the invitations, even if in Knives Out they are both more outlandish and less individual, as the puzzles boxes were the same and not created by Miles, whereas the letters from U.N. Owen were designed specifically to get each person there. The third biggest initial thing is how Duke brings a gun to the island, which is also an excellent red herring for those familiar with ATTWN, as we're expecting it to become a big thing, but maybe not in the way it ultimately becomes significant. For those not familiar with ATTWN, one of the characters, Phillip Lombard, brings a gun at the behest of U.N. Owen, and he is arguably the most dudebro of the book, even if he has an extra depth we discover later on, which again is similar to Duke.
There are a few other little things that could be references or not that I'll run through before I get to the biggest ones. The islands are both run by significantly less staff than normal, with the Rodgers the only servants in ATTWN and robots in Knives Out. The hourly dong could be a reference to the record of accusations in ATTWN. Even Miles almost running over Duke could be a reference to one of the characters in ATTWN, as Anthony Marston almost runs another character off the road on the way to the island and does run over two children driving recklessly. Both stories even have detectives invited to the island, although motives are very different for those characters.
Then we come to Duke's death. Stroke for stroke, it is very similar to Marston's death in ATTWN. Accusations are levied, the party grows uncomfortable, and one character drinks, almost immediately dying. Poison is the immediate suspect, and it is discovered that they cannot escape the island until morning. This is where the parallels diverge, as everything happens a bit faster in Knives Out, but there is a period when all lights go out, and another body is found.
Finally, the simplest similarity, but it’s hard to notice as the story literally tells you not to notice. In ATTWN, ten people are on the island. There are ten people on the island in Knives Out.
Benoit Blanc
Miles Bron
Birdy Jay
Peg
Claire Debella
Lionel Toussaint
Duke Cody
Whisky
Andi/Helen Brand
Derol
Yeah, Derol. He literally goes ignore me, I'm not here, but he is the tenth living person on the island. This is also a bit obfuscated by Benoit telling Miles that he has invited 7 people to the island with reason to want him dead, which I think most people will brush over and think yeah, there's seven people there, either forgetting Peg and Whiskey in the moment or not counting Benoit, Miles or Derol. Arguably, there’s a case for either Helen and Andi counting as separate people, or the Mona Lisa counting as a person, but as for alive people on the island, Derol rounds it out.
There’s probably dozens of influences for the movie, just like there were for the original Knives Out, but I think ATTWN has a very marked influence that I thought was very fun and left lots of misdirections for those familiar with both works. I loved how it brought elements into the story, but did not try to be an adaptation. I’ve already watched Glass Onion twice, and I’m sure I’ll watch it plenty more times with how much stuff there is to catch for the wary viewer.

Week 11 + Reading Reflection
For this past week, I have been establishing the foundation for my process book in regards to layout, typeface, and overall aesthetic. In my book, I wanted to do an off-center layout that features strong visual hierarchy and elements of a custom typeface. This led me to sketch out the typeface below:
Tumblr media
On monday, some valuable feedback I received from professor Valdes included paragraph breaks, as well as how to feature the custom typeface in my work. Following Monday’s class, I created a cover draft and a table of contents. Following group and one-on-one feedback, I plan to create more visual interest by featuring drop caps on my page as well as color. I was also suggested to have both clean as well as rugged texture in my book, which I aim to incorporate as I continue on with my work.

Reading Reflection:
This chapter featured various examples of effective typography. A case study that stood out to me in this reading is Jean-Benoit Levy’s poster for the Labyrinth bookstore. It connects to my previous project with the field of vision featured in the work, but most significantly, it features type on horizontal, vertical, and diagonal axis, which relates to the challenging of grids I've explored throughout the semester. Another inspiring example is Malinoski’s posters for the farmers market. In figure 10-44, I saw resemblance to my process book’s cover with the text going off the page in a vertical axis. The incorporation of the tractor is an approach I can explore in my work as well with the potential incorporation of a rugged pattern I have created.

Hasil Babak Pertama Chelsea vs Arsenal di Liga Inggris 2023-2024: The Blues Unggul 1-0 lewat Penalti
Tumblr media
Jalannya Pertandingan
Babak Pertama
Tuan rumah langsung berusaha menggebrak sejak awal.
Arsenal berusaha membalas. Declan Rice mengintip peluang di menit ke-21, tetapi sepakan menyilangnya masih melebar. Sembilan menit berselang, Palmer hampir menambah keunggulan andai tendangannya tidak meleset tipis dari gawang.

Jurgen Klopp's dream Liverpool squad if they complete three more transfers
Tumblr media
Jurgen Klopp's dream Liverpool squad if they complete three more transfers Liverpool will start their 2023/2024 Premier League season against Chelsea, led by Mauricio Pochettino.  Jurgen Klopp's team aims to recover from a disappointing previous campaign. In order to refresh the squad, Liverpool has allowed long-time players like James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita to leave. The arrival of midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister during the early summer has pleased Liverpool fans. These additions bring much-needed energy and creativity to the team's midfield.  Although there are no immediate plans for a third signing, it's unlikely that only two new players will be enough to fill the void left by five departures, including Arthur Melo's return to Juventus. Liverpool has been linked to promising young players such as Romeo Lavia, Khephren Thuram, and Gabri Veiga.  Additionally, there have been reports that the club inquired about Levi Colwill's future at Chelsea. Colwill, who recently helped England win the European Under-21 Championship, is set to have talks with Pochettino. The signings of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai may suggest that Klopp's first-choice starting lineup is already strong. However, considering the demanding season ahead, which includes Europa League fixtures, Liverpool also needs to bolster their squad depth. Liverpool's recruitment strategy, led by FSG, focuses on cost-efficiency, which means the club's outgoing transfers could influence their activity in the summer transfer window.  Players like Thiago, Jordan Henderson, and Mohamed Salah have been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia, while Joel Matip is reportedly of interest to Besiktas. If Joel Matip departs, Liverpool will likely prioritize signing an additional defender. Currently, their right-footed defensive options include Virgil van Dijk, Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Nat Phillips. Phillips has attracted interest from Leeds and Feyenoord. The addition of left-footed Levi Colwill could bring a different dynamic to Liverpool's build-up play and make them more dangerous when in possession. However, Colwill's future is uncertain as he seeks assurances regarding his playing time at Chelsea and faces competition from left-footed defender Benoit Badiashile. In midfield, Liverpool could benefit from further stylistic enhancements through new signings. Romeo Lavia gained a reputation as one of the Premier League's most press-resistant midfielders last season and would be an upgrade over players like Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita, or Arthur. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool manager Klopp is particularly interested in adding Lavia to the squad, although no agreement has been reached with Southampton yet. It is also reported that personal terms with Lavia have not been agreed upon, and Southampton, who were relegated, will demand a £50 million fee for the former Manchester City player. Khephren Thuram is a different type of player, usually occupying a defensive midfield role but also displaying dribbling skills and a tendency to move into the opposition box. In the previous season, he directly contributed to 10 goals across all competitions. According to Spanish source Nacional, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona are interested in signing Khephren Thuram, the French midfielder. However, Barcelona may struggle to meet Nice's demands. Nice is reportedly seeking around £25.6 million for Thuram, a fee that Liverpool is reportedly willing to pay, potentially making him their third signing of the summer. In terms of the attack, Liverpool is expected to improve. Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, having adapted to English football, are likely to have better seasons. Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have also showcased their abilities when available. Mohamed Salah's talent is unquestionable. Taking all of this into consideration, here is what Klopp's ideal squad could look like after the transfer window closes, assuming Liverpool signs Colwill, Thuram, and Lavia. Goalkeepers Alisson Caoimhin Kelleher Adrian Defenders Levi Colwill Joe Gomez Virgil van Dijk Ibrahima Konate Kostas Tsimikas Andy Robertson Joel Matip Trent Alexander-Arnold Midfielders Khephren Thuram Romeo Lavia Fabinho Thiago Dominik Szoboszlai Alexis Mac Allister Jordan Henderson Curtis Jones Harvey Elliot Stefan Bajetic Forwards Luis Diaz Mohammed Salah Cody Gakpo Diogo Jota Darwin Nunez Jurgen Klopp's dream Liverpool squad if they complete three more transfers Read the full article
