Citrus Meals on Wheels seeks Local Restaurant Partnerships

The Florida Department of Elder Affairs has recently entered into a partnership with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association to Support Meals to the Elderly. With this partnership in place, Governor Ron DeSantis has recently announced restaurants and food establishments can become emergency meal vendors and provide meals to seniors who are homebound or are self-isolating for protection.  “Restaurants are the very fabric of communities across Florida,” said Carol Dover, President & CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. “Providing jobs, serving customers, and creating memorable experiences for guests are key in our hospitality industry, but our restaurants contribute so much more than that. Ensuring that older Floridians have access to food during this unprecedented time is important to our restaurant owners and employees” Citrus County Support Services has received COVID-19 funding from the Department of Elder Affairs (DoEA) in order to support this initiative and is looking for local restaurants to provide daily meal options for our vulnerable seniors.

Restaurants must be able to: Provide current food service licenseProvide Professional Food Manager’s certificate(s)Provide the three most recent local health inspection reportsProvide an insurance certificate that meets Citrus County’s Insurance requirements (www.citrusbocc.com)Provide Menus for approvalWork with Citrus County to negotiate a unit costBe able to deliver to our Community Centers daily (mid-morning) for delivery to the seniors by our volunteers.
