Day 541: My Two Cents on Lockdowns

It's true that if we limit our physical contact with others, it would lessen the risk of getting sick. This doesn't just apply to covid-19 virus, but all kinds of communicable diseases. It's also true that we have to prioritize the health of those who might have no tolerance of this virus. These people can be anyone, and are not limited to a certain age group. The hospitals are getting cramped up and our health workers are already exhausted. They're getting barely enough support from the government, so they have been pleading us to stay at home as much as possible.

 We have been in community quarantine for more than a year, without any sign of the situation getting better. It's in the nature of viruses to mutate, and vaccines have to be developed regularly to combat the latest variant. Vaccines only prevent you from getting severe symptoms; it won't save you from the virus.

 The online work and school setup should've been a temporary procedure. The corporate environment is still arguable, but i believe it's essential for students to have physical interactions. Also, not everyone's job is clerical; not all of us can work from home. These lockdowns shouldn't be taken as a permanent solution for a problem that keeps adapting to current situation. Survival does not only mean staying inside and not getting sick, but also providing people means to continue living.

 What i'm trying to say is: you can't force people to stay indoors for this long. I've been working on site for months now. Commuting to and from office made me more concern with others around me risking their health to keep their jobs. It breaks my heart to see restaurants around closing down temporarily, some permanently, and thinking how many have lost their source of income. I have been consuming films and series these days and have heard many artists struggling to sell their properties or find other means to earn since media productions are halted.

 It's true, we should not go out. But please consider that others' lives, may it be financially or mentally, are also dependent on people being permitted to go outside. Always remember that you're able to stay inside because others are going outside for you. I just ask you to remember them, too.

Day 365: A Year In Pandemic

After weeks of careful deliberation with the Lord, my friends, and mostly myself, I've finally decided to go back to my job pre-pandemic, which requires me to report on-site. Now that the protocols in Manila and Bulacan seem to go back to stricter ones, I'm starting to think this isn't a good idea.

My WFH job is more convenient, but I can't take the detriment to my mental health any more. If the worsening COVID cases gets worse, I'd rather choose to be jobless than to go back.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure that I won't commit to that and eventually would decide to go back since I need money to pay my bills.

When will this pandemic end?
