DOs and DON'Ts:

DON'T show crying babies!  Certainly not those who need to be held down by mom and two soldiers!

DON'T show the Grim Reaper grabbing an innocent child!

DON'T show animal testing!

DON'T show miserable shot recipients!

DON'T show labs that look like prison kitchens or coffee bars!

DO accentuate the POSITIVE!

Waiting For the World to Change

While John Mayer may have made the above words famous, I think these days we are all in this frame of mind. Depending on the situation in your country it may be more like “waiting for the world to re-open?” Now that vaccination is readily available for those of us living in wealthy, and somewhat democratic countries, we are starting to sense the light is coming. We are starting to again look outward, wondering when we can begin to spread out wings again. I received my second vaccine last weekend and I know I’m definitely back checking out travel sites, just waiting for the 14 day quarantine to be removed for vaccinated travellers, and the border to the U.S. to reopen.

Of course, I’m extremely aware that countries less fortunate than mine are not in the same boat. I also know that until they are, we won’t be able to safely travel much of the world. There are other countries, (like Australia), who have kept their borders closed, but still don’t have a big vaccination program, who will be stuck within their own country until either everyone else protects Australians by being vaccinated, or they get on board and start vaccinating.

However, finally, after a long hiatus, my Inbox is starting once again to receive travel deals. Because one of the ways I deal with stress is by envisioning my life after the stressful event has passed, I’ve been planning trips in my head for months now, so when we DO get the green light, I’ve probably got 4 trips lined up over the course of a year. I’ve only made hard plans for one of them, and I even have a Plan B if needed. If we have to reroute due to border/quarantine issues, then we will lose a grand total of $40USD, which seems like an acceptable loss. I am encouraged though by watching the U.K. and the US reopening, and I’m hopeful that in the near term we will get to see our friends and families, and hug again.

Meanwhile, my yard is still the big pandemic winner!

Onward we go. No matter where you’re reading this from, please get the vaccine when it’s your turn. Let’s get back to enjoying our lives.

Top 10 Albums of 2021

It is true that we didn't have too many great rock albums in 2021, but on the bright side, we did get a handful of excellent debuts from amazingly talented new bands that promise a brighter future just around the corner. Dry Cleaning's "New Long Leg" impressed us the most with its unique combination of inspired post-punk musical landscapes and stream of consciousness, spoken word lyrics that make each song a captivating short story with unexpected plot twists.

Black Country, New Road's "For The First Time" and Squid's "Bright Green Field" complete the trio of amazing rock debuts of 2021, a breath of fresh air for fans of adventurous guitar music.

Our Top 5 is completed by two explosive punk rock records, "Comfort To Me", the second and best effort so far by Australia's Amyl And The Sniffers, and "Crawler", the fourth full length by the unstoppable force that is Idles.

First dose of COVID-19 vaccine done! It’s been a long, incredibly frustrating year for me but things are finally looking up. If you had said a year ago that we would have several approved, safe, effective vaccines and that all adults in Canada would get at least one dose by the start of summer, I would’ve had a hard time believing you.
