Although he had an interesting concept, he was foolish.

With the full list of rules and the assumption that yes, someone WOULD go after him, he could have created a solid, foolproof alibi from the start, negating the whole “L broadcasting in Japan” thing.

Enter the way this could have been avoided:

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of the subject’s name, it will happen.  After writing the cause of death, the details of death should be entered within the next six minutes and 40 seconds.

You may write the cause and/or details of death prior to filling in the name of the individual.  Be sure to insert the name in front of the cause of death.  You have about 19 days (according to the human calendar) to fill in a name.

The 23 day rule means that the Death Note can operate within a 23-day window in the human calendar.

How could this help?  Oh.  I don’t know.

Perhaps Light could have:

Started with a Japanese criminal via the heart attack method.  Once the validity was confirmed, switched immediately to an American criminal, changed the time of death to some time during the DAY in that jail’s time zone, and switched countries intermittently.  Perhaps 4 in one timezone per country, then switch to another country, then random number in that timezone and country, and so on.

He wouldn’t have to be awake at all - he could have planned ALL OF THEM AHEAD OF TIME.

The 23 day rule: use that to space out the killings ahead of time.

Now, as for handwriting: simple.  Use a killable proxy.  Use the cause/details clause to have them hand a scrap of the note to a target, where they will leave to commit suicide (a valid death according to the Death Note), then use the cause of death for the TARGET to be: filled in names written on additional piece of paper handed over.  Use the additional sheet as a blind to the actual Note.  After that, the target will suffer a death after leaving the area in which they are forced to destroy both themselves and the page.  Perhaps it’s jumping off a bridge (the paper dissolves), maybe setting on fire (paper burns), or even they just tear it up, shred it again, burn it, etc, then yeet themselves to death.

This could be done in SO MANY TIME ZONES.

And then the final problem: DON’T GET FUCKING COCKY.

Don’t take the FUCKING BAIT.  If you take the bait, you’ll get caught.  Use the internet for information once the first victim is confirmed.  Don’t use the news - L can’t catch you in that way if you don’t use the television - a broadcast won’t do anything!
