Rhodey in civil war:
-[Off steve saying that the safest hands are our own] "that is dangerously arrogant"
-[when tony is clearly blaming himself for rhodey's paralysis] "i have flown so many missions as an airforce pilot and this has always been a risk. I don't regret it for a second." "This was the right thing to do."
Rhodey in infinity war: [off ross saying "you signed the accords"] "yeah and i paid for that" *gestures to legs*
And then generally "welcome back" to steve and playful banter with sam and such
(and me: "WTF?!?!???")
Like, i honestly believe that steve's team was in the wrong during civil war. I mean, i understand WHY he did it. It was a Captain America movie, it's about his journey, they showed us clearly what was going on with him the whole time. But. Humans are flawed. Steve is flawed, and it was a movie about him being a fallible human who gets caught up in a snowball of mistakes.
Rhodey was one of the people who recognized that Steve was going down a mistakes filled path and was putting his foot down to try and stop him. To see him suddenly seeming to agree with everything steve was talking about? It feels like they're trying to say that cap was right, that civil war wasn't a movie about him going on this personal journey and making mistakes along the way but.... Like it feels like the infinity war writers were taking the civil war movie at face value and accepting all steve's cw dialogue as base truth plotline instead of as the unreliable narrator storytelling that it really was. I felt like they made it clear in civil war that steve was fucking it up despite what he would SAY. Ppl were calling him out on his escalation the entire movie through, ramping up in personal closeness. Like at first it was ppl like rhodey, then tony, natasha, even bucky, and i felt they made it clear that by the end of that fight scene in the bunker even steve knew that he'd dun fucked up but felt like he couldn't go back now - hence the dropping of the shield. The very obvious "don't deserve to be supposed paragon of virtue captain america" symbolism.
But it's like infinity war writers when looking at "where the story is so far" just fucking ignored the ACTUAL story in civil war and glanced at the dialogue for the plot. IT WAS GODDAMN UNRELIABLE NARRATION WHY DON'T PEOPLE SEEM TO SEE THAT? Aggggghhhhhhhhh
