Return of the Thief took my heart, cajoled it into naive optimism, put it through the grinder, stomped on it, taped it back together, roasted it, poured acid on it, gave it a few stitches and then punched it for good measure, and I’m not even mad.

I certainly didn’t like all of it, and tomorrow I’ll probably be very annoyed over some of it, and I maintain that The King of Attolia is easily the best book I have ever read (and I have faith it sadly always will be), but what a way to go out! It was messier than the previous books in a way that seemed very fitting considering... everything, and there was no real clear climax that I could pinpoint (unfortunate only because I adore climaxes), but not one word of it ever left me feeling indifferent. I’m sort of sad this is over, of course. But I’m satisfied.
