ok so i just got to rewatch the last two episodes of cql today and like.
in mdzs they gotta like be holding back su she the whole time, like kicking him to the ground to keep him away from jin guangyao and like cql!sms is just not about that life he's just. chilling. just watching in the background like "oh damn xiyao divorce? xiyao divorce imminent?? That could be good for me!" like he doesn't even get to die protecting jgy heroically. I mean, i mean he does die protecting jgy but the vibes are not the same. like he does die because he's trying to protect jgy but there's not quite the same sense that he is actively choosing to die protecting jgy right til the end. he just kinda dies.
10/10 choice to have him clearly suffering trauma flashbacks when he gets held hostage though. And still being like "don't worry about me"? What a fucking amazing man. 11/10. 12/10.

My husband watches The Untamed, vol. 24, eps. 46-48
Episode 46: If anything can take my mind off election night (upon which we watched this), it’s this beautiful episode. I’m grateful for that.
Every time Clan Leader Yao starts proclaiming opinions, my husband shakes his head and says, “This guy.” Tonight we called him a swing voter, since he seems to flip sides in the slightest change of the prevailing wind. No respect from us for Clan Leader Yao.

Hmmm, why is it Nie Huaisang who asks Sisi and Bacao, “What is the background of the one who sent you two here today?” If HE is the one (as we later learn), wouldn’t he NOT want to call attention to that question? Risky move. Or perhaps just super ballsy.
Tumblr media
Laughed at the group coming around to “Yiling Patriarch, you have to help us!” And WWX just kind of shaking his head and walking out.
I explained to husband about how you’d only bow with your spouse at the family shrine like that, and he was like, “But—don’t the censors KNOW that? Or maybe they were just passing it off as part of the magical, not-real setup…?” Being not members of the Chinese culture, we were at a loss to explain.

When Jiang Cheng starts attacking them with the Zidian, husband remarked, “I like how it makes the charge-up noise right before each hit.”
Golden core reveal!! Best scene ever. Wen Ning is such an absolute hero, in the humblest fashion. He’s amazing here. Husband agreed: “His arc is maybe the biggest one, ultimately.” Huge emotion all around, especially from Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan, though Lan Zhan’s is more moving since it’s so rare to see it to that extent. (Husband: “Huh. So…he hadn’t figured it out? Are you sure?” I said I was pretty sure. Our heroes are known for being dense about the important emotional matters, after all.) :)

When Wen Ning brings up Wen Qing, husband said to Jiang Cheng, “Remember? You liked her? Then let her get executed and didn’t help her, like, at all?”
Poignant conversation in the boat too—I love that Lan Wangji is bonding a bit with Wen Ning, especially over their shared affection for Sizhui. And upon Lan Wangji picking the lotus for WWX even after learning the lake belongs to someone else, and WWX’s stunned expression: “OMG, you stole a plant for me!” Next he’s going to be shoplifting packs of gum just because Wei Ying has a hankering for it.

WWX: “Wen Ning, to Yunping City!” Us, as Wen Ning: “What is this, a taxi? Also, you think I know where that is?”
When WWX activates the sparkling butterflies talisman to distract the guys messing with Wen Ning, husband said in approval, “He didn’t even hit anyone or kill anyone or summon any zombies.” WWX’s magic is turning nicer, evidently.
Sigh, for me it’s back to the real world for a little while now. Stay strong, my fellow Americans. And to the rest of the world: seriously, we’re really sorry for all the drama. We wish it weren’t like this too.
Episodes 47-48: Since we still don’t have definite USA election results…into Guanyin Temple we go!
Wei Wuxian: “Hey Lan Zhan, are there any nice female cultivators in your clan?” Shippers: “NOOOOO” Wei Wuxian: “…because I want to set up Wen Ning with someone.” Shippers: “…oh. whew.”
Tumblr media
Husband was saying “aww” in genuine sympathy when Wei Wuxian was telling Wen Ning he should go wait at the inn rather than following them everywhere. Wen Ning looks so forlorn.
Our dog still barks whenever Fairy barks. It’s so silly.
Wei Wuxian: “Kid, leave quickly with the dog…” Me: “As if he [WWX] would’ve when he was fifteen.” Husband: “He would’ve been climbing over the wall.” A few seconds later, when Jin Ling is doing just that: “Oh. He IS climbing over the wall.”
Husband laughed at the sequence of touches and gestures that “turns off” Lan Zhan’s cultivation. He said, “It’s like he’s entering the code on a garage door panel.”
We did remark many times that they could try doing SOMETHING rather than just sit there, even without the cultivation being switched on.
Tumblr media
When Nie Huaisang gets dragged in unconscious, husband said, “Wait…he’s not gonna wake up and end up doing something heroic and saving the day, is he?” I said I wasn’t going to say one way or the other. Now he’s suspicious. :)
Su She and Jin Guangyao: *getting teary and telling everyone off for not respecting them* Husband: “It’s like at a bar at the end of the night, with everyone getting maudlin.” Me: “Go home, Su She, you’re drunk.”
Our interpretation of Jiang Cheng’s mood upon arrival at Guanyin Temple: “You got me out of bed at midnight. I’m upset about a lot of stuff right now. I’m going to hit all the things. Who wants to get hit next?”
Husband laughed lots at Fairy racing in and causing havoc and then racing out again, complete with Wei Wuxian freaking out. He finds the “being afraid of dogs” thing really funny.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng: “Oh, should I be afraid of Lan Zhan??” Lan Zhan: *danger glare* Me: “Yes, you should be.” Husband: “Even with the garage door closed.”
During Jiang Cheng’s tirade at Wei Wuxian, husband shook his head a few times and said, “He is NOT handling this whole thing well.” And he laughed when Wei Wuxian finally says, essentially, “I didn’t tell you because I knew you’d be like this.” Yup. Still—it’s a moving scene! Oh, sibling relationships. They can be complex. (Just ask Jin Guangyao! Ha ha…)
Tumblr media
When JGY’s guys are digging for the Forbidden Thing, we made remarks about how it’s probably the Ark of the Covenant. Especially when it starts burning their skin.
We loved WWX freaking out JGY with the ghost story—“Aren’t you afraid he’ll come back for you?”—then using crafty whistling to conjure ghosts. Though why one of JGY’s team didn’t leap forward and gag him to stop the whistling, we are not sure.
Poor overly trusting Lan Xichen. He looks so betrayed. (Which of course he is.) Look beyond the cute dimples next time, Zewu Jun!
