I believe Bobby is coming back from the dead because I think we deserve to live in a world where Kenneth Choi gets to act his ass off by playing a simultaneously relieved/joyous and angry/furious Chimney, who feels like he has to thank Bobby, but also scream at him until his throat is sore because it wasn't fair to make that decision! he's going to say they should have played rock, paper, scissors and Bobby will chuckle because he thinks he's joking like silly haha Chimney, but Chimney is like "no, we should have discussed it, you died and I didn't even get to say thank you. you died and I owed you a debt I didn't even know about. you let me carry that" and he has to wrestle with the guilt of knowing that Bobby would do that for him, not just theoretically, but actual concrete proof that Bobby would die to save him. which they all know on some surface level that they'd die for one another, but it feels like such a far-off concept until it isn't. but Chimney also has to deal with the gratitude because Chimney is also so incredibly thankful that he didn't die. every step of the way he wanted Ravi, Bobby, Buck, and Athena to commit crimes, because he loves his life and he wants to keep living it. he's so overjoyed that he got to go home to his wife and kid, and that comes with its own guilt because how can he be so happy to be home when Bobby DIED. does that make him a monster? that on some level he's HAPPY that Bobby did that? and now he has to FACE Bobby. so he tries to be the Before Chimney who gets people whimsical gifts, but how do you give someone balloons about choosing your life over theirs? and he spirals because he's different now and Bobby is here and he has so so much he wants to say but all of it feels contradictory and unfair and he would normally go to Bobby for advice. so he does. he goes to Bobby and he says "what would you do, if you were in my position?" and Bobby just says "whatever you need to say or feel, I understand" and that just makes Chimney even more upset because what he needs is for none of this to have ever happened. its like they all got a re-do, but kept the memories and the feelings and now he has nowhere appropriate to put them. anyway, Bobby lives and we get Chimney angst yay <3 forever and ever.

yeahhh I do get HOW it happened and intellectually if i remove myself three steps it is interesting how this community has developed. I'm a big believer in not doing meta discourse *about the fandom* on a public forum so I'll try and mostly leave it at that... as you say, a lot of new fans have been introduced to the sport through the lens of one specific pairing and then that one specific pairing has already been collectively packaged in a specific (and quite reductive) manner. torn asunder from the context of The Sport and not even really treated as an actual 'rivalry'. like I'm going to cut myself off in a moment but it's one thing to get irritable about fans not engaging with one half of their ship, it somehow becomes even more baffling when you realise they haven't really engaged with the history of the actual ship itself. to be clear there's no right way to do fandom, maybe interacting with joke posts featuring blatant character assassination of the athletes is your favourite way to be a sports fan, who am I to judge. and again, if I remove myself slightly from it, it is interesting seeing in real time how every source or post or whatever gets processed through the same half dozen cognitive filters that only pick out the stuff that already fits in with everyone's preconceived notions. to the point of being a little surreal when it happens under your own post when you KNOW that's not what you were saying. it is?? extreme?? in motogpblr I feel?? I've never come across something quite comparable in either media fandoms or other sports fandoms. and size of the fandom is probably a big part of that in just becoming such an echo chamber yeah... okay cutting myself off now. maybe at some point motogpblr will be large enough for the Great Big Schism to occur

i ask because, ngl, i am cringing pretty hard at how excessively/on-the-nose-ly/tediously the game keeps driving home the "[Fantasy] Slavery Is Bad" theme. i understand is kind of ridiculous of me, given i've written many hundreds of thousands of words of fanfiction about The Other Video Game With A Cringey Fantasy-Slavery Theme, like, surely i'd be inured against this kind of cringe by now, but, hmmm. at least fire emblem por/rd didn't have 18 different sidequests all hitting the EXACT SAME "you help someone and they call you a bunch of slurs" beats over and over, yaknow

anyway! i'm hoping the game eventually assumes i got the message on Slavery Is Bad and moves on to explore other themes, i'm VERY interested in learning more about Cid's whole deal, but who knows

also i've only seen like 0.8 seconds of Dion so far which seems improbable given how much fanart i've seen of the gentleman. hope we see more of him at some point

for example, here are some notable things my youngest sister has done recently:

- was hanging off the back of the couch [she knows she's not supposed to do] and promptly fell off, flipped mid-air, and landed in the laundry basket

- also tore her nail partially from her fingertip when she landed

- did not, in fact, learn anything from this experience and was playing on the couch again not even 12 hours later

- organized the pies and slices from our copy of trivial pursuit [second youngest had left it out] into individual piles by color, then filled each pie [in order of color appearance in the rainbow] with slices in rainbow order.

- played with mom's umbrella and scared herself [it opened faster than she expected] and proceeded to be completely inconsolable for the next 15 minutes

- called the cat "horrible stinky man" [to be fair, this is a common nickname for him]

- informed me that jade [closet spider] is "too hungry" and "needs more bugs", then attempted to pull several bug corpses out of her web because she was "cleaning her house"

- was once again inconsolable because we do not, in fact, all have brown eyes? apparently she was convinced everyone's eyes were brown
