yeah!

she’s a skittish little fereldan mage, maybe nine or ten years old but scrawny for it, who was his apprentice in the circle, mostly because in the beginning he was the only one who could get her to talk. he adopted her when the circles rebelled—as much as simply telling her she could be his daughter now if she liked, and her vehement agreement, counts as formal adoption—and she’s gone by the name lilith trevelyan ever since. they were separated during the rebellion though, when arthur stayed behind to buy time for the mages they were travelling with :(

that group of mages ends up in montsimmard, and vivienne brings lilith to haven as a show of good faith (read: as a bargaining chip so arthur has no choice but to recruit her despite his political qualms). they’re reunited and i sure do hope arthur’s self-sacrificial tendencies will never separate them or re-open that trauma of leaving him behind again (said while shooting nervous glances at the in your heart shall burn quest)

bio: the trevelyans, despite originating from antiva, are one of the most prominent noble families of ostwick. because of their strong ties to the chantry, the family does not hesitate to send their children to the circle when they discover the gift of magic. luca felt betrayed when he was sent away at just 12 years old and left on bad terms with his mother, who he was extremely close with. growing up with his father's strong disdain for magic and fearmongering from the templars caused luca to develop a fear of his own magical abilities. luca's mother passes away from illness before luca has a chance to reconcile, intensifying the guilt, fear, and nightmares he already suffered with. before he was even considered to do his harrowing, he begs the templars to make him tranquil so he won't be a threat to anybody, and won't have to further deal with his pain. when kirkwall's circle rebelled, ostwick quickly followed suit, and luca was forced to join the rebels for his own survival. he eventually joins the senior enchanters at the divine conclave as an unbiased voice. when the anchor is accidentally fused with luca's hand, his severed connection with the fade was restored, curing him of his tranquility. after being tranquil for a decade, luca must relearn how to live, how to feel, and how to be a leader, as he's thrust into reverence as the only hope to save thedas.

bio: growing up, lilith had always had an immense and dangerous fascination with magic, and desperately wanted to learn it for herself. but there is not much a lowly street urchin can do when your main focus is surviving the day in a dirty, corrupt city. despite the hardships, lilith will always try to steal magical trinkets and tomes to try to teach herself magic. perhaps if she was strong enough, she would be able to make enough money for her and her mother to have a real home. however, lilith was caught stealing from a powerful noble, and - in a desperate attempt to save her daughter - lilith's mother takes the blame, resulting in her being cut down before lilith's very eyes. months pass and lilith is suddenly approached by a ghostly voice, claiming to be the spirit of her deceased mother. her mother's spirit says that she returned to watch over her daughter, and will be willing to teach her magic if lilith does what she is told. lilith accepts immediately, and is ecstatic that she is getting to two things she wants the most - her mother, and magic. unbeknownst to lilith, however, this apparition is not her mother. it is instead a fiend, taking advantage of a grieving orphan with a strong desire for magic, in order to manipulate her into doing its bidding. the fiend's goal is to feed lilith so much power that she eventually goes berserk, wreaking as much havoc as possible before she inevitably loses herself to the very magic she longed for.

Could you recommend a fic that is just beautiful prose? I love feeling immersed in the story as well as the beauty of language the author weaves. Also smut. Smut is a good bonus.

So the main issue is I'm probably going to want to recommend writers, not individual fics on the whole. Choosing a fic per writer is torture but I will try my best.

Starting off strong with @senseandaccountability AKA Lilith Morgana. You could do literally any of them (the current Astarion fic Blaze me a Sun is stunning, and the iconic one is the Blackwall/Trev fic there are names for what binds us) but I'm going to plump for so I wait for you like a lonely house which is Aeducan/Gorim and is just sublime.

NeverwinterThistle writes incredible Gortash/default Dark Urge Stuff. Ten Silver Pieces is incredibly written but very, very gory too so have a care. The prose is quite something though. The others are slightly less gory, but no less intense.

Noseforahtwo writes beautiful work. Out of the Woods is Blackwall/Trevelyan and has gorgeous smut and wonderful dialogue.

@popiellart AKA martyrologics again is somebody I could recommend everything of, and people are going to assume I will go for The Hunt (which I could) but I'm going to plump for The Dark Urge/Lae'zel fic the dark urge sleeps alone because it's beautiful, and romantic, and deserves more readers.

Again, @smoreofbabylon AKA Vashnoi has a gorgeous sensitivity across her work, but I'm very fond of More than Bodies

All of @gribbo/@jiubilant but I love this little Barcus Wroot centric piece

the one who bleeds by @des-no9 is beautiful

voyeur by @rowanisawriter is an exceptionally strong outing from a fab writer

Chapter 11

In My Mind:  Lilith Trevelyan isn't your normal Herald/Inquisitor. She suffers from anxiety, majorly and a bit of depression. There are good days, there are bad days then there is the Inquisiton. Being thrust into the role of Herald, and eventually Inquisitor she is forced to come face to face with all her inner demons. And salty blonde templar with his own demons catches her eye, but he couldn't possibly find someone as broken as her interesting, could he? She can hope, quietly inside like a whisper in a hurricane but the hope is there. Sitting in her room, the darkness surrounding her she wonders if it's all just, "In My Head."

is Josie awkward with Lilith specifically because of Trevelyanmancing reasons or is not-great-with-kids an inherent Josie quality ?

i think in general, the older the kids are the better she is, but yeah the unpredictability and difficulty of reasoning rationally with them can stump her a bit? not that she can’t handle it, though. her primary tactic is finding out what the kid likes and resorting to bribery. gets them every time. like i say, the less professional distance there is and the more time she has to spend, the more difficult it is. a brief interaction is fine. spending months in skyhold with a kid whose opinion of you Matters, and who seems to like half the inner circle more than you, is more disconcerting

i don’t think the trevelyanmancing helps. they didn’t teach her the rules anywhere for “how to talk to the adopted daughter of your childhood betrothed who is now your colleague”. i also don’t think, once josie finally takes arthur’s flirtations seriously, that becoming a stepparent was anywhere at all in her life plans. nor does all that make lilith particularly forthcoming. on her side, she’s terrified of losing her father and personally self-conscious about not having the noble upbringing her name would suggest. so as soon as she becomes aware there’s a Situation, i don’t think she’s on her ultimate best behaviour about the idea of her dad and this non-mage noblewoman she doesn’t know, who belongs to his life from before the circle. she’s nervous of josie and quick to feel josie’s distress at an uncertain situation as dislike

but like i do think they figure it out. josie’s so sweet and lilith responds well to being taken seriously. i think the main problem is that initially josie overthinks and overdoes it. lilith would actually quite like being spoken to like a grown-up, and she likes the 3hr impromptu lectures and feels ignored and dismissed when you cut yourself off trying not to be embarrassing, and she is trying to offer an olive branch by sitting in the same room in dead silence, you don’t need to start sweating about it josie, it’s fine

A different Borderlands x Dragon Age AU than the other one I did, this time based more on DA: Inquisition! Now including classes + specializations for each character!

Rhys is the Inquisitor, but still a Tevinter Mage like in my last AU, bc I really like that idea. He’s totally practiced blood magic before. Everyone is Ferelden + Orlais is giving him shit for being Tevene; he just wants to close the Breach and go home.

Fiona and Sasha are City Elves from Kirkwall, who ran away after the turmoil caused by the Mage Rebellion, and made their way to Haven to join the Inquisition. They end up joining the Inquisitor’s Inner Circle uwu

Vaughn is a traveling mercenary. TBH, I didn’t know which group to put him in, but I imagine he’d traveled to the Tevinter Imperium at some point for a job and met and befriended Rhys while there. They keep in contact via letters, and when Rhys writes to him about the Inquisition, he drops everything and runs off to join his friend.

Angel and Jack have relatively the same roles they did in the last iteration of this AU; Angel is an apostate mage, raised by her ex-Templar father, Jack, who left the Order when her magic made itself apparent. He joined the Grey Wardens to avoid being punished for leaving the Templars. Aaaand in this version, Jack is the Hero of Ferelden, who stopped the Fifth Blight. He joins the Inquisition at Angel’s behest and sort of ends up their military commander. And Rhys happens to be quite a big admirer of his...
