Mt. Purgatory Dayhike 6 mountains. 26 kilometers. 12 hours.
Basta ang goal, tapusin ang anim na bundok within cut-off time.
Inulan. Nilamig. Nanginig. Umusok ang bibig. Inilaban naman hanggang dulo hehe. Sobrang majestic ng mossy forest, pero mas na-amplify pa lalo nung umulan because of fog and raindrops.
Babalikan.

Sto. Tomas, Batangas and Los Banos, Laguna
Entry point: Sitio Jordan, Brgy. San Miguel, Sto. Tomas Exit point: UP College of Forestry, Los Banos, Laguna LLA: 14.13°N 121.20°E, 1090 MASL (Peak 2) Hours to Peak 2 / days required: 1-2 days / 5-8 hours
Specs: Major climb, Difficulty 5/9, Trail class 3 with roped segments Features: Roped segments, rocky face, limatik, rattan, tropical rainforest
The Makiling Traverse (which we first referred to as "Maktrav" in 2008), invented by Sky Biscocho in the early 1990s, is still a well-liked dayhike. The height of Mt. Makiling is 1090 meters above sea level, or 3576 feet. It provides climbers with a thorough view of the Southern Tagalog mountains, including Mt. Banahaw, Mt. Kalisungan, Mt. Cristobal, Mt. Obabis, and Mt. Prinza, from the summit.
According to Dr. Jose Rizal’s writings in the year 1890 about the story and myth of Maria Makiling: Once upon a time in a place called Makiling, there lived a god and goddess couple. They have a daughter named Maria. Maria is a very beautiful maiden or fairy. Her beauty is captivating and any young man will be charmed by her porcelain complexion and shining eyes. Their family is known to be kind and helpful to others, especially those in need, which is why the people around them love them so much. In those days, the gods were given the power to mingle with the people. One day a charming young farmer saw Maria one day, and upon seeing her beauty, he fell in love with her. Since then, he has always looked forward to it. The young farmer is the envy of his fellow farmers since, thanks to Maria Makiling's care and protection, neither plague nor bugs have harmed his crops. The young man thus always ascends the mountain to meet and be with his fairy lover. They quickly developed a romantic relationship, which the girl's parents learned about. Because a goddess cannot fall in love with a mortal, Maria's parents promptly cut off contact with that man.

Secret Revealed: How to get rid of those blood-sucking Limatiks
Secret Revealed: How to get rid of those blood-sucking Limatiks

How to get rid of these limatiks?
Limatiks are scary. Just thinking about those creepy, blood-sucking mountain leeches already brings goosebumps into my system. Back when seasoned mountaineers share their encounters of these parasitic creatures, I would often wonder how in the world they survived such bloody attacks. So when finally I got a chance to hike mountains that are heavily infested with…

DASEMULAO is among the most challenging hikes in the Philippines, ascending three major mountains (Mt. Damas, Mt. Semilya, and Mt. Tapulao) plus several smaller mountains on the same route. It's a grueling 65km superloop starting at Papaac, Tarlac and finishing at Palauig, Zambales.
I joined Team Teka-Teka for a 35 straight-hours endurance hike, starting at 12PM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 and concluding at 11PM the next day. If you're an experienced ultra marathoner or trail runner, you may look forward to this trail but be aware that the endurance required for this route includes multiple steep climbs, so it can be more difficult than an equivalent distance on a flat terrain or a single mountain.
Hikers usually have their breakfast or lunch at the Zambales river. It's the last available water source before summiting Mt. Tapulao. After crossing Zambales River, you will put to test under the sun as you resume climbing up Mt. Marabinela. This reminded me of the Cawag Hexa trek of Zambales, but less difficult. It is very important to conserve your freshly-refilled water from Zambales River as you have approximately 30km to go. The next water source is 10 kilometer from the end point of the hike.
Climbing the mountains beyond Tarlac and into Zambales offers different kinds and level of challenges. Going to the summit of Mt. Tapulao, you'll encounter a mossy forest that seems to be never-ending. Aside from the presence of blood leeches or limatiks, the trail is very difficult to distinguish, and if you're by yourself it can be very creepy, if not dangerous.
It's important to be mindful of how your legs and knees feel, especially on the first mountains. The alternating steep assaults and descents aren't very friendly to our joints; so be wary of your muscle condition so you know when it is necessary to take a break and when it is smarter to keep going.
Long hours of trekking won't feel long if you're enjoying the experience. We climb mountains not to compete with anyone, or to brag. Let our presence be felt by the mountains so the latter will remember us.

The Majestic Mountain
Mt. Napulauan Back Trail "Million-Dollar Mountain"
Hungduan, Ifugao
Major jump-offs: Poblacion and Brgy. Hapao, Hungduan
Specs: Major climb, Difficulty 7/9,
Features : Mossy Forest
Limatik is always present here.
Mt. Napulauan located in the municipality of Hungduan, and towering at 2,642 MASL, Mt. Napulauan, or Napulawan as the locals spell it (either way is correct), is the country’s 15th highest mountain in the Philippines.
Tumblr media
The Mt. Napaluauan was trail the combination of all assault trails I hike so far this is one the most unpredictable mountain so far. It was 12 pm in the afternoon the Sun was so bright and clear but unfortunately rain pours. The trail going to the campsite literally cardiac assault. “ Keep on asking myself hanggang kelan to assault na to “
Tumblr media
It also well-known mountain in Hungduan, Ifugao is also shrouded in a mystique that makes it more enticing for adventurous tourists. The locals believe that the summit of the mountain is enchanted and protected by fairies. According to the one website I read Mt. Napulauan peak has served as refuge for both defenders of Philippine soil and invaders from the imperial Japanese army. General Emilio Aguinaldo, who fought to free the Philippines from Spanish and American colonizers, sheltered his troops in the mountain's mossy forest. The hidden valleys of this majestic mountain were also used by General Tomoyuki Yamashita, a Japanese General who was infamous as the "Tiger of Malaya." General Yamashita used the region for the last stand against the Filipino and American forces. Rumors also suggest that the Japanese general buried vast amounts of plunder treasure in the surrounding area.
The mossy forest here can be also compared to the Harry Potter forbidden forest well it maybe not look like the mossy forest of Mt. Kamamasam but it's one of the most beautiful mossy forest so far.
Mt. Napulauan, as with other mountains in the Philippines, proved to have some unseen supernatural forces lurking within. I had a very uncanny feeling. Like what “ bakit parang kanina galing na kami dito tapos nandito na naman kami. I also saw a lady with a white dress I keep on pretending that I didn’t see her. I just ask my friend to keep going, but the trail like a never ending assault. When the rain pours we started feels the cold ambiance it was cold night not like my overnight in Mt. Pulag and Mt. kamamasam so far Mt. Napulauan was the coldest. It was nearing dark when we burst out of the forest and into the false campsite. Every time we saw something that has a ‘Liwanag” we always thought that it was the campsite. After 6 hours of trekking finally we reached the campsite with trembling due of cold weather. Me and kuya Kel decided to take a nap. But when we go outside to take the dinner, I saw her again the lady in white at first I thought it was my co- hiker because she wearing a white shirt that time. But I keep I got confused why the hell she is on the other side of out the tent when basically I was dead end and there no trail. I just keep on praying. After we ate, we decided to sleep. Then I think it was 2:45 am I heard a footstep outside our tent which is on the side where I saw the Lady in white. I just pray in silence so that I cannot disturb my co- hikers. It was an intense and scary experience.
Tumblr media
The photogenic view paid off very well for the hardships of the day before. We may not see the sun rise, but Mt. Napuluan give us clearing which is rare. I’m going to use lesser words to describe the magnificent beauty we saw. It was "Magical".
At 10.15am we decided to go back to the jump off. But thank you nakababa kami with my team ng 1.15pm. And waiting for the others na lang.
This mountain gives me a dose of unexplainable feeling. I really want to go back here witness the sunrise and the most beautiful clearing. See you soon Amica Mea 💕💕💕💕
Shout out to my GF Irish who are so hands on to us Kudos Gf more more organize event hahaha. Thank you so much for this climb. Be Albert, thank you for taking care of me on my wasted look “ Susuka pero hahabaol pa din.
“ charr hahaha. To all the people na nakasama ko thank you so much ang kukulit niyo po hahaha. Tillnext hike ulit. After 2 years charrr.

One of the most challenging yet so much fun hiking adventure in Mountain Province. Despite of continuous ascending trail plus the limatik attack (weird but those blood sucking leeches, I find them cute), our team arrived safe at the campsite near the summit. It was my first time camping in the rain lol and oh my god! I’m freezing. Mt. Napulauan has a lot to offer but it welcomes you with it  steep ascending trails,  a portion of log jam and obstacle course will also be met. I will assure you, hiking there was surely worth it specially if you are a fan of mossy forest, it was mystique and I was speechless with its marvelous beauty. I can say that it has a  resemblance to Mt. Pulag and Mt. Purgatory’s mossy forest but Mt. Napulauan has its own unique mossy forest style that you will surely loved.

Aside from the adrenaline feeling you get when climbing a mountain, one of the best experience is making friends with new people and 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘬 — it is one of the highlights in Mt. Makiling.
Limatiks, among other local names, are leeches that inhabit Philippine forests. These are blood-eating, parasitic mountain leeches belonging to the subclass Hirudinea.
Despite their nuisance — finding them inside your socks, stained red with blood or inside your eyes, ears and other orifices, they are largely harmless. But to prevent them from getting to your skin, use proper clothings like leggings and rash guards or use chemicals like Off lotion, rubbing alcohol, and even our favourite ointment — Betet and Vicks VapoRub!
They are just smol squishy creatures that gets excited when they see hoomans! Don't be afraid of them.
Happy rainy friday! 🌧️

Mt. Namandiraan Dayhike Ilocos Sur's Highest Peak. 20 kilometers. 14.5 hours.
Iniiwasan ko talaga yung mga limatik infested mountains since wala akong proper apparel/gears to combat them. Surprisingly, safe naman ako from bites hehe.
Kaya siguro it doesn't feel 8/9 to me, or baka ako lang yun hahaha. Well, subjective naman ang difficulty rating.
Andaming talak ng grupong 'to kaya andami ko ring sagap hahaha. Agyamanak!

Mt. Irid
At paalala,
- Flashlight
At kailangan ninyo muna magkaroon ng permit bago kayo makaakyat.
Papagawan kayo ng Letter of Intent.
Makipag-ugnayan lang kanila
Kagawad Toto: +639302355562
Pitoy- +09293265454 or 09263652353

Yehey!!! Mt. Madjaas, Culasi, Antique unlocked! Panay's highest peak. 👣💚
My first climb outside Luzon! Mahirap pero nakaya naman. Unli assault na naman e. Lol. Ang saya kooo. Shet! Hahaha. Napakasaya ng climb na 'to, dami ko na naman new friends. Hehe. Napaka-hospitable ng mga taga-iloilo. Super thanks kay Louie (na nakasama ko sa Luzon 321 na climb last 2018), pinag-stay niya kami sa house nila ng 3 nights na dapat ay mag-stay kami ng mga ibang kasama ko somewhere like hotel or transient.
Gusto kong mag-Panay trilogy kaso mas mahirap daw yung Mt. Nangtud and Mt. Baloy, top 2 and 3 nila. Hahahaha. Shet lang!
Ayun. Marami pang naganap sa climb na 'to. Highlights muna 'to ng first Visayas climb ko. Sobrang ganda. 😍

Mt. Makiling in Los Banos, Laguna
Hiking is difficult yet satisfying thing to do when you travel. Kasi at first it was difficult lalo na pag yung bundok na pupuntahan mo is matarik at mabato at mapuno. But it is satisfying when you’ve reached the top.
Tumblr media
This is my first hike ever. And here it is. Nagawa namin siya.
4 am kami umalis ng condo namin papuntang Los Baños. Wala pang one and a half hour I think andun na kami sa Los Baños so kumain muna kami dahil wala pa kaming breakfast and ang hirap kung aakyat ka ng bundok ng walang kain. Baka himatayin ka bigla (kidding). After kumain derecho na kami punta sa UPLB. So sakay kami ng jeep. Siguro after 45 mins or less nasa paanan na kami ng Makiling. May entrance fee siya na worth 10.00 pesos. After registration, we start exercising para naman di mabigla katawan namin at we also pray para guided yung pagakyat naming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, we started walking na. Tas halos one hour bago naming narating yung Agila base. Binaba naming yung bundok ng 2 hrs I think.
Tumblr media
Masaya umakyat kasi yung struggle at pagod mo sa pagakyat ng bundok but its satisfying because when you’ve reached the top, the struggles and pagod mo mawawala. It’s like every challenge in our lives. Madami kang makakaharap na problema pero pag narating mo yung pinaka tuktok, it’s all worth it. Lahat ng pagod at hirap na pinagdaanan mo magiging worth it lahat yan.
