Look at this beauty who is dropped off and in it’s forever home! I have this pattern and wool all picked out… now if only I were the kind of person who quilted things 😂 This #Merrychristmasquilt by #hearttohand is a true wonder! I remember how excited I was at market (like15yrs ago)to meet the maker and buy the pattern for this quilt. It all came full circle with this finish! Makes me almost feel like I got it done. Don’t mind me. Just alittle past quilting! This quilt has been dropped off and is living its best life with its owner. I am slower than a dang turtle but when they are done… they are good! I have quilted this quilt before for local shop. I had shingles in my left eye while I worked on that one… this one might be better because I could actually see. LOL! I have loved this quilt for a long time. #marymannakee was picked up and Lorraine showed it to our hand Applique group. I wasn’t able to be at meeting but I assumed it had gone off with a BANG! A couple weeks later I see a mutual friend who comments on Lorraine’s Mary that it “looked quite yellow”. Mentally I think…well that happens with a 14 year old hand appliquéd quilt. Oils from hands and all that. Out loud I say… “yeah, there was a spot that was discolored. It happens.” I move on. Thank God that Lorraine is a wonderful human and a perfect client. She calls me! Nicely asking if there is something she can do about the yellowing…. WHAT?!? Like for real, WHAT are you talking about?!? No way that one spot can be it. So I meet up with my dear friend and….. it’s AWFUL! The quilt has turned yellow. Not an “ohhh look at that age” yellow but a “did someone pee on that” yellow! I DIED. I took Mary home. I asked around to the best of the best in our field and was informed that YES, sometimes when you add baking soda to the water to remove the blue lines… it can and will turn YELLOW. Dead again. I marked ALOT on Mary. This quilt is a swan song. It is amazing and it has amazing quilting and it’s freaking YELLOW…. Mentally after the year I have had I just wanted to throw in the towel sell everything I own and go work at Starbucks. “HI, may I take your order?” @helloiamjoshuajames tells me to grow up…MANY people do not LOVE their job and I should consider myself lucky that I have/do have a job I normally LOVE. I think of smothering him with a goose down pillow. The only thing to do is to stay in town and get the job done. So I unpack my car and put away the down pillow😂 It needs to be fixed. This quilt is 108” square. So I cleaned my tub and cleared out my living room. I rinse the quilt (twice) in just cold water, pray it doesn’t bleed, drain, spin in the washer and stake it to the insulation set up in my living room. I put two fans on it over night. I haven’t been myself for about a year. 2021 has been a rough one for me medically and mentally. I have talked about and thought about quitting longarming more times than I can count! BUT when @helloiamjoshuajames talked of selling my machine… I always told him NO!! I will keep it until I DIE! So here is a long story about a quilt that helped me get my “sewjo” back! This quilt is from a lovely friend and client her in FL. Lorraine M. When I say I LOVE her.. I mean I literally enjoy her every moment. I also enjoy her quilts. This quilt is called #marymannakkee. I have seen exactly TWO of these quilts finished in my 23 years of quilting. This one is Lorraine’s. It took her 14 years to hand Applique. I am not even sure HOW long it took me to quilt. You see I was in a funk so it was on a VERY along time. Lorraine waited. She had a deadline. I went atleast a couple weeks past that deadline. Here you can see the marks I used with a water soluble marking pen. (I use these all the time) This pen is removed with water… NORMALLY. Finished this little gem a couple weeks ago! Linda W actually hand blanket stitched each of these appliqués… FOOLED ME! Her stitching is perfect. This @bunnyhilldesigns pattern #merrymerrysnowmen quilt is on my list! (But let’s face it… that list is LONG) I used #glidethread and #magnaglidebobbins for the stitching on my #innovalongarm. I went around the appliqués with #superiormonopolythread. I always use my fish ruler from @nanfishpaw and curves from @thequiltedpineapple. Just a peek.... it’s finished. Just have to remove the blue lines. I use a solution of 1/4 tsp baking soda to one cup water. I use a water brush and swipe away. Works like a charm. This #okehampton quilt was expertly appliquéd and pieced by my friend/client Chris. Pattern is by #karenstyles from #somersetdesigns. Are you thinking to yourself... hmmmm I feel like she JUST got a new machine?!? Yet here she is posting about a NEW NEW machine. Well.....For the first time in my 23 year career I have switched brands. There is a whole story and months and months of chaos. A lot of crying on my part. A loss of a lot of money from not working and a loss of a lot of money from selling a brand new machine but mostly I lost myself. I had people telling me it was “just because you don’t know how to use the machine.” “If you just had more training.” “We have helped you. According to all of our techs your machine is just fine.” If you are a new quilter. PLEASE do not stop at ITS YOU! It is not me. It was not me. What happens if you have a company that doesn’t care that you do this work to feed your family? That they won’t do ANYTHING to fix your BRAND new machine. Not replace it, not send it back, not upgrade it, not send someone else to you.... NOTHING! #shameongammill You switch! @jukeboxquilts you find people who have knowledge and a manufacturer who will help and you force yourself to chance. HELL you might even bring a friend @piccadillypetsalon to switch too. I bet I am not the only one who had to switch because no one would do anything about delivering a sub par product. That is shameful. You bent me but you did NOT break me!!!! I am moving up and moving on and shame on you for ever treating real people like they don’t matter. I know I haven’t posted In awhile. I kind of went dark after all the drama in this world. I don’t do change well and for the past 4 months it’s been nothing BUT change.
