Have I told you how much I love the country? How I feel inspired and regenerated when I live surrounded by meadows and forests as to buildings and cement? I know I probably did, but bear with me, singing the beauty of country living is my favourite song.⠀ ⠀ I have just moved out of Milan, direction Kent, England. What a change! Kent is known to be the gardern of England because of its relative abundance of fruit-growing and hop gardens, the precious flowers flavouring the ale English love so much and that flows in rivers daily in pubs and restaurants all over the island. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Twenty-eight per cent of the county forms part of two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the North Downs and The High Weald where I live. The Wealdean landscape is unique for the presence of ancient wooded areas, small fields and scattered farmsteads that have been present on the territory since the Middleages, for the bucolic rolling hills and the river valleys. ⠀ ⠀ There is a sense of remotness here that is absent in the surrounding Low Weald and the more urbanised south-east of England. It feels like you are in a secluded part of the country, where villages, hamlets and towns are more or less what they were centuries ago and the farmlands and the woods have been defining the landscape since the dawn of human civilisation. I have so much to explore! ⠀ ⠀ This weekend started with an 18 km walk. Not all of it was planned since we kind of got slightly sidetracked! The list of places to visit is already 5 pages long. Next week watch out for Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens and Rye posts on the blog. Don't want to tell you much about them now. The desert sun was working its way through the skies and the hubs and I were busy getting ready to tie the knot on a mountain overlooking the golden valley in the heart of the Mojave desert at sunset. We had but a handful of witnesses and galaxies in our eyes. I am forever thankful for everyone that had come together to make our elopement possible. A wierd thing I do is to keep flowers around much longer than I should because I love to watch the colours of the petals change as they dry out or fade. My idea of what is beautiful over the years has changed greatly. Have you ever elongated the truth to have some peaceful, child-free (and cat free!) time for yourself? Yes this is me on the beach...er....no I'm not at school pick ups. Gasp is that two different needle sized tips? Erm yes it is and here is why: When doing sleeves two at a time I can put down the sleeves and it might be a week before I get back to them. Having one main needle and one smaller (from the cuff) I always know what direction I'm knitting. The first sleeve has a removable marker so I know where the start of both my sleeves are so it's easy for me to count my rows. Nope this has had no effect on my gauge because the needle you form the stitch with sets the size. Here I have a 5.5mm and a 6mm @knitproeu tip on either side of the magic loop. So I'm always knitting onto the 6mm and off the 5.5mm. And yes I did realise this one Xmas when I snapped a needle tip. Yes you should always knit with the same size needle tips as the second needle does have a purpose but in this case it saves mistakes and my brain from melting.
