Join me to take part in a free online BEGINNERS pastel course doing landscapes on fb @emmahuntart. PLEASE SHARE TO ANYONE WHO MIGHT LIKE THIS. I have been using art as therapy now for 18 months and found it’s a wonderful distraction from any kind of pain or worry. I recommend students purchase inscribe soft pastels (48 colours) and canson mi teintes a4 paper but it’s fine if you already have your own materials. You’ll also need some kitchen roll or cloth to keep your fingers clean and a non-patterned tissue paper. Fixative, to help stabilise the pastel on the paper is up to you but I do recommend using it. You can use hairspray if you have none, or an aerosol one such as windsor and newton. For the more serious of you, I use spectrafix non-aerosol fixative and put it in to an airbrush connected to a small compressor.
