ok i don’t care about either of these teams and have literally no dog in this fight, so you can trust i’m being unbiased when i say this shit is inexcusable and a perfect example of the underlying culture issue plaguing the league right now:

not only did he absolutely extend both upward and outward, and the hit WAS the head, not the core, this is exactly the problem.

let’s pretend this hit truly was legal and allowed. why? for what? the guy that got hit was visibly knocked unconscious with the contact. any hit that causes that shouldn’t be allowed.

change the fucking rules. other leagues have done it. don’t sit here and shrug your shoulders and say, “well nothing to be done, that’s a good hockey hit!” it fucking shouldn’t be and that’s the whole goddamn point.

penalize head contact as automatically as you penalize high-sticking. make it a major every time. hell, make it a major and a game, idc. suddenly all these hits that are “unavoidable” will magically start being avoided. if these players have no incentive to actively work to not hit the head, they’re not gonna, because it works. it takes players out of the game and gives their team an advantage. so why wouldn’t they?

take away the advantage. disincentivize hits that can cause head trauma. it will go away, i absolutely promise.
