Clifton Whipple Truss Bridge in Clifton Texas. “Built in 1884 by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company of Canton, Ohio, at a cost of $6,465, this bridge spans 150 feet across the North Bosque River. This type of bridge, called a Whipple truss, was named for its designer. One of the few remaining Whipple truss bridges in the state, it opened up travel routes from the south and west to the north and east. De Witt County Courthouse Cuero Texas • 02-04-2023

Awesome weather today in Texas for a ride from Victoria to Boerne. I stopped in Cuero to check out the De Witt Texas County Courthouse. Courthouse was closed today because it was Saturday, but that's a good reason to come back to check out the inside of this gorgeous courthouse. DeWitt County has had three courthouses: 1847, 1858, 1897 in three different cities, including its present county seat, Cuero. On Sunday night, April 8, 1894, the second courthouse was torched. My research did not reveal the two to other cities. I think the first one was in Clinton in De Witt county, which is now a ghost town. Completed in 1896, the Richardsonian architectural design courthouse was designed by Texas-born and Austin-based architect Arthur Osborn Watson and completed under the supervision of Eugene T. Heiner. The three-story structure, with its six-story clock tower, built of rusticated Pecos and Leon sandstone in hues of light brown and red polished granite columns, and granite steps makes this beautiful courthouse stand out in this Community.
