I learned a lot of concepts in my entertainment media publishing and distribution class that I didn’t anticipate once I started this Master’s program. I set original mastery goals in the first couple of months of the program that correlated more with my digital marketing course. My original goals for this class was to learn more about the trends in social media, and how that information was distributed. I was initially concerned with some digital factors that I was lucky enough to gain additional knowledge on in the courses prior.

What did I learn in my entertainment media publishing and distribution class? A lot of more important things relative to the growth of my business! I learned some of the most important factors to your intellectual work, which is protection. We had a great review of ASCAP, BMI, and the importance of securing your work to ensure your collection of royalties in the future. We also learned about the use, and need, of agents and publishers depending on what segment of the entertainment industry you’re in. One of my favorite takeaways, is the professional formats for items such as query letters, and electronic press kits, that us as entrepreneurs will be verse in if ever needed in our line of work.

When it comes to the future, and the evolving music industry we are dealing with, I was able to research and gain a grasp of the major players on the distribution side. Learning, and comparing, companies such as Tunecore, CD Baby, Distrokid, Spinnup, and more, allowed me better understand the process behind their pricing. After already being signed up with one of these digital distributors, it was very useful to gain additional info on the competitors and know what to look for in the terms and conditions. The goals I achieved for this class were goals that I did not know I had, or needed at the moment. I am definitely ecstatic to conclude though, that in mastering my entertainment media publishing and distribution class, I have grown as a business man, and entertainment entrepreneur who could provide significantly more value than I was able to prior to this class.
