Anyway here are the hcs I have for LordoftheShadows!Darren au in regards of what happens to Larten

First of all Darren gets the idea to kill Larten because Darren is obviously insane and in his mind Larten treats him like a child over the disapproval of Darren’s ideas, so Darren needs to get rid of him in order to be taken seriously

There’s also an idea that I got from Azula when she’s having hallucinations about her mom, in that Sarren has the same about Larten roght before he kills him, however Darren believes Larten is mocking him

Darren puts on an act for Larten to lure him, Darren acting like his old self and promising to be better, seeing an error of his ways, and a false admittance that Larten was right. Then they hug just like they used to.

Except Darren quite literally stabs Larten in the back, Larten still holding onto Darren as he dies in the arms of his killer. Since Darren didn’t want to kill Larten but thought it was necessary, he still holds some amount of respect for Larten.

Darren lays Larten’s corpse down, making it look like he’s peacefully resting, even closing his eyes and everything. Darren gives a small nod as he sits by Larten’s body for a moment, saying “thank you for being my mentor” before leaving.

Of course Darren still wears Lartens coat as a symbolic “if I could kill him I can kill you too, no matter how close we are” and there’s a small tear from the stab wound Darren can’t bring himself to fix because of the crushing guilt he has over killing Larten.

Added a few things so worth a read again, no I’m not sorry for hurt feelings and I accept hate but not criticism thank you!
