Today is the day, our baby girl is starting school. I wake up to the sound of my alarm. I roll over to wake Roman up, but he's already up. That's abnormal for him, that man loves his sleep. "You okay?" I ask him softly. "Yeah yeah, it's just today is a big day. Our baby girl isn't a baby anymore" Roman says through his still sleepy voice. I can't tell who today was going to be harder on, Roman or our daughter. They have the strongest relationship I have ever seen. There isn't a day that goes by where they don't talk, even when Roman is on the road. He packs books with him, and they do their nightly bedtime story. Being away from him is hard for us, but he never seems too far because of the little things he does.

Roman and I roll out of bed and do our morning routine before having to wake our little girl up. I pour us each a cup of coffee and we sit at the kitchen table. "Are you ready for this?" I ask Roman. He takes a sip of his coffee before answering "I haven't decided that yet" He says avoiding eye contact. Today is such a bittersweet day for us, how did our baby girl grow up so fast? It's like we blinked and she was five and full of personality. I quickly make her a nice breakfast while Roman wakes her up. "Big girl is awake!" Roman says as our daughter trails behind him rubbing her eyes.

"Good morning honey!" I say as I plate her food. "Good morning mama" she says while sitting at the table. She finishes her food and we go into her room to get her dressed. I sit her down in between my legs and pull her hair up into pigtails with her favorite bows. She runs into the bathroom to look at her hair. I cam hear her little footsteps trailing back into our livingroom "I look beautiful!" She screams as she jumps onto me, kissing my cheek. "Let's roll!" Roman says grabbing his car keys. The three of us get into the car and make our way to the school. I take a deep breath upon arrival and the three of us lock hands, Roman on her left and me on her right.

The halls are full of small kids and their parents making their way to the classroom, finally we make it to our daughter's classroom. Our daughter stops abruptly and runs to Roman seemingly wrapping herself around him. "Daddy please come with me!" She beg. "I can't come this time baby girl, this time you have to go alone" Roman says. I could hear the hurt in his voice. "Please daddy!" She continues to beg, her eyes filling with tears. Roman releases a sigh, I can tell this just made him feel so much worse. "I promise to come back and get you, and after you have a good day we'll go get ice cream just me and you" Roman pleads.

She looks up at him, wiping her tears "Pinky promise?" She says sniffling. Roman sticks out his pinky, locking it with her tiny one. He wipes the remaining tears from her face "Go in there and make some friends and have a great day baby girl" He says kissing her forehead. I give her a kiss on the cheek and she makes her way into the classroom, there she's greeted by other kids. Roman grabs my hand as we walk out of the building eager to return and hear about her day.
