Such a beautiful recipe and sentiment....@herbalacademy ・・・ Signifying remembrance, rosemary brings a sense of continuity to a time of year when many folks are looking back on the past year and taking stock for the new one to follow. And if you love all things rosemary and butter then these melt in your mouth shortbread cookies are the perfect cookie for you! They are not your typical holiday cookie, offering rich buttery flavor complemented with bright herbaceousness. The rosemary really is almost reminiscent of pine making this a wonderful cookie to include on any cookie platter. To make these delicious cookies, follow these directions: 1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 325 degrees 2️⃣ Cream the butter until fluffy. 3️⃣ Add honey and beat to incorporate. 4️⃣ Then add the flour, rosemary, lavender, and lemon zest, continuing to beat until all the ingredients are very well blended together. For plain shortbread cookies: - Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. - Roll the dough into 1” balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. - Press the dough down a bit with a cookie press, fork, or your fingers. The dough can be crimped along the edges if you wish with a folk. Poke a hole (or holes) all the way through the shortbread. For thumbprint cookies with goodies: - Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. - Roll the dough into 1” balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. - Press a thumbprint into the center of each ball. Add a filling such as jam or chocolate chunks/chips. 5️⃣ Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the edges are slightly brown. The cookies may be very crumbly until they cool and harden. 6️⃣ Enjoy! . . . #myherbalstudies #herbalacademy #herbalist #herbalism #botanicals #plantmedicine #herblove #herbalmedicine #artofslowliving #motherearth #naturesmedicine #loveyourweeds #backtoourroots #herbalists #plantlove #herbarium #herbstolove #medicinal #hebier #botanicalartist #botanicalillustration #herbalart #herbalillustration #botanicals #instaart #myherbalstudies #herbalacademy #herbalcookies #holidaybaking #herbalholidays (at The Herban Inn) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5vVBZHp3_j/?igshid=61fu2uydb4m

Repost from @herbalacademy ❄️ "Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius." - Pietro Aretino ❄️ Happy Winter Solstice to you! As tradition tells us, the Holly King (the king of darkness) has battled the Oak King (the king of lightness) and he has reigned supreme, granting the world a longer night. During Winter Solstice, we are reminded of how important darkness is in the natural world. The darkness of solstice reminds us of the self-seeding annuals, perennials, and nuts that take refuge beneath the darkness of the ground in the winter, only to burst forth again with life in the spring. The roots of plants, some of which are purposeful in their own right, also require darkness to thrive. We’ll leave you to make your own connections between your own personal experiences and nature’s need of darkness to thrive. But while you’re contemplating, we're answering some of our most frequently asked questions about solstice and its connection with the herbal world—don't miss them in our stories today! 🌑☀️ Our Winter Solstice gift to you today is a 25% off savings of our enlightening herbal courses! Now is the time to enroll in the courses that will become the pillars to your herbal education—act now so you can save big using the link in our bio! Blessings this solstice. 📷 : @folkandfloradesignco #wintersolstice #solstice #happysolstice #longestnight #myherbalstudies #herbalacademy #herbalist #herbalism #materiamedica #botanicals #plantmedicine #herblove #herbalmedicine  #mindfulness #artofslowliving #motherearth #naturesmedicine #loveyourweeds #backtoourroots #herbalists #plantlove #herbarium #herbstolove #medicinal #solsticeart #botanicalart https://www.instagram.com/p/CJEAdWgFoxj/?igshid=17ko7lfg18p4m

Some very good information from herbal academy!! #Repost @herbalacademy ・・・ It's bug season! We put together this helpful chart with the many effective plant oils categorized by the particular bug they repel. This is not a complete list of ALL EO oils – feel free to weigh in with your fave EOs in the comments! A word of caution when using essential oils: they should always be used with a carrier product because of their volatility. Carrier products are other oils such as extra virgin olive oil, sunflower oil, apricot kernel oil, unscented lotions, etc. Some EOs should not be applied to children or to pregnant women so, as always, please do additional research. We also recommend seeking out brands who use sustainable harvesting practices. @MountainRoseHerbs has a good selection of essential oils, which we recommend! . . Here's a simple recipe from the blog for crafting a bug repellent: . . SIMPLE SPRITZER REPELLENT Directions: Combine the following in a 2-ounce bottle: 4 tablespoons of distilled water 2 teaspoons of vodka 5-6 drops of your favorite EO or combination or try the Thieves combination of sage, rosemary, thyme, lavender, and mint. Shake well before each use. Spritz this on your clothes and hair. Not for use on skin. . . . . . . #bugrepellent #naturalbugspray #thieves #sage #rosemary #thyme #lavender #mint #essentialoils #aromatherapy #eos #mountainroseherbs #myherbalstudies #herbalacademy #herbalist #herbalism #materiamedica #botanicals #plantmedicine #herblove #herbalmedicine #artofslowliving #motherearth #naturesmedicine #loveyourweeds #backtoourroots #herbalists #plantlove #herbarium https://www.instagram.com/p/B0WPKRYnBNy/?igshid=xwzkj0a9npw7

Today was a productive day off, tackling a few wee jobs including transplanting #Ribwort #Plantain | Slánlus | Plantago lanceolata seedlings that have been popping up in the gravel of our rental house into key spots in our burgeoning #forestgarden. #RibwortPlantain is an incredible multifunctional and #Perennial herb and a #permaculture powerhouse! It's antibacterial, an astringent, an expectorant, a laxative (in larger quantities) it is also "a safe and effective treatment for bleeding; quickly staunches blood flow and encourages the repair of damaged tissue". It's younger leaves are edible, it's a source of natural dyes, it's a fabulous feed for livestock and domestic animals. It can be used as a tea, it's a #PioneerSpecies and of course it's adored by #Pollinators and is a great bolster for #biodiversity. What's not to love?! #permacultureinireland #donegal #LoveYourWeeds #WildPlants #NativeSpecies #ireland https://ift.tt/2r5eUwb

One approach to rid weeds from the garden (without using an arsenal of chemicals) is to drown them out with the plants you love. Last year I put bunches of sedum along the curbside garden hoping it would take over. Miraculously, it worked. With the help of healthy doses of compost mixed into the soil, the sedum has multiplied and spread everywhere. There is now a thickly textured carpet of sedum and a lot less space for weeds...

I never met a dandelion that I didn’t love! A repost from @herbalacademy ・・・ What are your favorite uses for dandelions? Here is an idea: sweeten up your breakfast with Dandelion Flower Syrup, a recipe you'll love to love. 🌼 DANDELION FLOWER SYRUP 3 cups water 2 cups non-sprayed dandelion flower petals, cleaned 2 ½ cups organic cane sugar ½ cup raw unfiltered honey ½ lemon, chopped pinch of cinnamon (optional – very tasty!) 🌼 Directions: In a large pan, combine cleaned dandelion petals, water, and lemon (peel and all) over high heat. Bring water to a boil and turn heat off. Cover and let sit overnight, steeping. In the morning, strain the dandelion lemon infusion, taking care to squeeze out all of the tea from the flowers. In a pan, combine dandelion lemon infusion, sugar, honey, and cinnamon (if using). Simmer over low hear for 1 – 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally. Check syrup for desired consistency by dipping spoon into syrup, pulling it out, and letting it cool. It should be a honey/syrup type consistency. Store in an air tight container such as a Mason jar, in the fridge. Serve over waffles, pancakes, french toast, and more! . . . . . . #dandelion #dandelionrecipe #flowerrecipe #flowersyrup #wildedibles #wildweeds #foraged #myherbalstudies #herbalacademy #herbalist #herbalism #materiamedica #botanicals #plantmedicine #herblove #herbalmedicine #artofslowliving #motherearth #naturesmedicine #loveyourweeds #backtoourroots #herbalists #plantlove #herbarium #herbstolove #medicinal #dandelionflowers #herbalistlife #herbalistofinstagram (at Cleveland Heights, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvmRtbBgcYA/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1w8u2af038f7w

In the spirit of violet season...a luscious recipe from my beloved @herbalacademy this is the recipe I can’t wait to make with my someday grandchildren 💜 ・・・ Wild violets will soon be making their appearance – and may have already have depending on where you live! These little herbal beauties pack such wonderful benefits. The leaves are thought to support the lymphatic system, which is so helpful when we consider the strain put on our bodies by environmental pollution and toxins in food. Even those of us striving to reduce the number of toxins we’re exposed to can use lymphatic support at times, and violet lemonade with raw honey is an easy and delicious way to reap those benefits! This refreshing violet lemonade recipe can be especially helpful for children, as they might resist a tincture but will happily drink lemonade! Find the full article + recipe can be found on the blog: https://theherbalacademy.com/refreshing-violet-lemonade/ Save this recipe for later if you can't make it now! . . . . . . #violet #violetlemonade #herballemonade #lemonaderecipe #homemadelemonade #herbalrecipes #herbalremedies #wildviolets #foragedfood #foraging #forage#myherbalstudies #herbalacademy #herbalist #herbalism #materiamedica #botanicals #plantmedicine #herblove #herbalmedicine #artofslowliving #motherearth #naturesmedicine #loveyourweeds #backtoourroots #herbalists #plantlove #herbarium #herbstolove #medicinal (at Cleveland Heights, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwRmgePpumd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18ugv4fwi5iqr
