Loy Krathong was celebrated in Thailand yesterday 🥰

Loy Krathong Festival is celebrated to honor the Thai Goddess of Water. Water is symbolically important in Buddhist culture and is believed to have powerful cleansing and life-giving properties. The word loy stands for 'to float' and krathong stands for "basket", so Loy Krathong literally translates into ‘float a basket’. Krathongs are traditionally made from banana leaves and usually contain coins, a candle, some incense, and colorful flowers.

Loy Krathong is regarded as a version of Valentine's Day in Thailand

For young romantics and new couples, Loy Krathong is a time to wish for future happiness and success in love. For centuries, it has been a festival where Thais believe they will meet their soulmates. Many couples make their Krathongs together or choose to buy one that they both like. During the festival, couples will light candles and incense then release the Krathong and watch it together as it floats away. If the candle stays lit until the Krathong is out of sight, then the couple will know that their love will stand the test of time.

@mellowroxy is in Thailand right now (you might not see her for a bit, but maybe she'll come back to brag 👀 about a certain other thing) but she said there were many couples out and about today.

So yes... they were 🥰 very happy 🥰 to make single people feel extremely single today with their flirting 🥰

Krathong Sai show - Thailand Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

A lovely theatrical Thai dance celebrating the Loy Krathong festival.

In the northern province of Tak, they have developed the Krathong Sai tradition.

Here, people create Krathong Sai or Krathong Strings - fleets of coconut shells, threaded together on strings and attached to a decorated Krathong (raft) then lit up and floated down the river.
