Kids across america and the world were SHOCKED when they first saw this (source: i was one of them) like 2010 was such a moment. Imagine being in fifth grade deep in your percy jackson phase and reading this new book that RR released and thinking it seems pretty familiar and possibly in the same universe then BAM the protagonist from the last series is MISSING

Trying to read 13 more books before 2024 so forgive me for rereading the mark of athena but this book is so unserious. it literally starts with annabeth and percy just making out in front of the romans then her judo flipping him then her traumadumping to reyna before leo gets possessed and attacks camp jupiter then jason gets hit by the infamous brick then percy throws octavian off the rope ladder into the mob as the argo escapes and then percy tackles leo so hard he knocks him out and annabeth grabs the wii remote to fly the plane? all within the first 50 pages

me, unprompted: the titans curse is such an underrated book and i am tired of people reducing it to just being the most depressing book of the percy jackson series just because annabeth is gone when its so much more than that. like just think about the prophecy. one shall perish by a parent’s hand? one shall be lost in the land without rain? what the fuck? and then it actually happens and youre like wait i thought this was a fun children’s series but no, there are real stakes at hand and these demigods are really dying and even volunteering for the quest knowing that their parent will kill them. rip zoe and bianca. but also, like, the whole subplot with bessie. percy literally just saved that lil cow because he’s a good person? and bessie ended up following him across the country (also prophecied in “the bane of olympus shows the trail”) which hints at him being *the chosen one* who has the power to sacrifice the beast and gain the power to destroy olympus. but then hes like, wait, we cant kill bessie. that is a terrible loss of innocence! and that line hurts more when you realize that percy’s essentially lost his own innocence because he’s watched two people die in the last 5 days. and then thalia accepts immortality because the book was ultimately a story about figuring out where she stands in this world she’s woken up to, and she’s had nothing for herself in the life she lived before so why not be free of the burden? but then we see percys sense of duty coming in when he says, you know what, i WILL be the one in the prophecy. i cant let nico suffer anymore than he already has, i failed him and thalia put it on me but im going to take it because its what right. and then-

you know how percy and annabeth were going to see a movie ~as friends~ in botl... well if we assume botl was set in june 2008 and we look at what movies were out around that time... it is very likely that they were planning on seeing kung fu panda in theaters

its been 10 yrs of tlo and im still losing my mind at the fact that percy gave pandoras jar to hestia "because hope survives best at the hearth"....... he really looked at hestia, saw a vision of his family and friends, felt the warmth of their love and support, and said if i have to go down fighting ill do it for them.... shut up.....

percy is just. so instinctually good. he pulls annabeth into the boat at the thrill ride of love while shes paralyzed by fear and buckles her seatbelt for her??? like mentioning the seatbelt is so random but its also so in character😭

nvm i dont want the pjo tv show anymore i just cant fathom having to watch the titans curse on screen.......... especially not talos rising up from the junkyard chasing the crew, a closeup of bianca opening her fist to reveal a figurine of hades, the ensuing battle and electrocution of talos while bianca is still inside his body, and then the crew yelling her name until the sun comes up, zoe crying and thalia screaming in rage as grover says "percy...dont you understand? the prophecy came true. one shall be lost in the land without rain." and the camera slowly zooming out to show the arid desert landscape around them and then the screen goes black. i dont want to see it.
