All About Tales of the Rays Liveletter - Part 1: New Mechanics & QA

A new mode will finally be implemented in a major update in April! (It's Recollections)

(Disclaimer: please take my translation with a grain of salt. My ears are trying their best)

Part 2 - Recollections Story Info | Part 3 - Recollections Gameplay Details

Introduction of a new Mystic Arte type! Origin MAs!

Starting with, you guessed it! Kodama and the Recollections OCs!

Implementation Event! Origin Mystic Artes begin releasing for the implemented titles!

This will be a normal event release separate from the Recollections mode!

For this event, Cress, Chester, Kyle, and Reala will be the first of the mainline Tales to get Origin MAs (henceforth, zMA when shortened because oMA is already taken and the accompanying arte released with the gacha is a Zero Arte (Rarity Zero) )

What are zMAs? Excellent question! Let's see what info we've gotten on them! (Continued under the cut)

Illustrations - Flashy battle moments with a focus on effects!! MA Animation - An arte boosted by the battle scene! Buff Effect - A bonus granted during battle

Until now big MAs have been tied to story, but these zMAs have an emphasis on being a "character being cool in battle" illustration to go along with the Rays main story being over. So these focus, rather than being tied down to any particular battle scene from their game, more on whatever battle moment looks cool, and there will be a fancy effect that is the focus in the art. As for the MA itself, it will focus on a nostalgic arte they had in the original game that already looks cool and boost it into an MA class attack.

These zMAs will have extra bonuses when used in the Recollections mode! During normal Rays gameplay they will be the usual MA, but in Recollections they will have increased power.

Introduction of a new arte type: Rarity Zero

Rather than a burst effect, this is a "zero" effect - After meeting the conditions, a powerful move, "Zero Shift" will be activated!! Attachment - Includes a weapon from the original title! (featured here is Phantasia's Eternal Sword) Buff Effect - If it is set as the first move on the auto chain, the effect will be increased

Auto chain is setup to give benefits for setting lower rarities first and following up with higher rarities. And putting a Zero arte first gives even more powerful benefits.

Recollections Release

Relive moments from the stories of previous titles! The above will be the first available set in Recollections.

Sets will have 5 titles each, released in order. Updates will be monthly. (unclear to me how these updates will work exactly and how much is released per update) Clearing these titles will unlock portions of the all original Recollections Main Story.

Display of the location of the Recollections menu button in the menu bar. The room button has been moved to the home page. Recollections is treated as an altogether separate mode with it's own menu.

Q & A Section

Q: Will characters from dual series be playable in the Recollections stages of the series they're dual featured in? A: No. They will only show up in their original title. I.e. Lloyd will be in the Symphonia set and will not be playable in Dawn of the New world's set.

Q1: Will Side/mobile characters be playable in Recollections? A1: No. The plan is to release all of the listed groups first and then work on Link, Asteria, Crestoria, Narikiri, etc. afterwards (unclear how this "new content" for mobile games would be applied. We'll have to wait until down the line to hear about it again. However this is promising news, and from the previous anni stream info, this does not exclude Luminaria)

Q2: What about form change? A2: You can not set a party member as a form change. However there will be a form change setting so you can still use it in battle.

Q: Will we continue to see more of Ix and co's story? There is so much I want to know about what Ix and friends are up to, Dana, Balor, and Lugh. Of course I'm excited about the new characters, but I'm also excited to see more of the Rays cast. A: Producer pauses in the middle of answering "I stopped for a moment because I was thinking 'Miyajima-sensei is going to be mad at me for saying too much again'" (lol) But basically he says there is a likely possibility of unresolved main story elements like that showing up in events in the future as well as of course the usual continuation of standard events.

Q1: When a spirit guage fills, even though the partner of a crossover MA is ready, spirit gear is prioritized. These are two separate guages, so is it possible for this to be modified?

Q2: The bonuses for events are calculated from the equipped weapons/MAs. Is it possible to change this so that the max bonus will be applied for what the character possesses regardless of what is equipped?

A: This is a good question! So much so that it hurts! In a sense I wish you wouldn't ask. (lol) We're also aware of these problems ourselves and have been discussing it. Please wait until a future producer letter for the solution

Q: What is the future of Spirit Gear? A: We are saving this for a future Producer letter. (Sounds like it will be a long report so they don't have time during this stream)

(There was a badge slide with mostly a "how badge quotes are decided" on question, but in response to the asker also stating they wish less run characters would run more, they said they are deliberating over how to fix this and to await future developments)

Tales of Asteria Campaign

We will be making a function that lets you set a wallpaper to the home screen. A campaign that allows you to transfer six favorites as wallpapers to Rays. (There is other info on this transfer out already and so I will not be covering this part)

Asteria x Rays event: Around May: Events from within Asteria will be re-run in Rays Afterwards: Preparations will be made to be able to re-run them anytime with re-run tickets

This is how the wallpaper is planned to be setup, with 4 illustrations lined up on the homescreen. Individual images can be clicked to expand.

Asteria Event:

Grain of salt. From what I can tell they're saying they'll be moving the two Rays collab events that ran on Asteria's side to Rays as a singular story and run as an event. Due to the format changes between games though, they will have to re-make them a bit, so it's currently in-progress. It will be an event that's re-run-able through tickets in the future as well.

There’s been radio silence for a bit

zero banners besides the default to pull on for a few days (and no announcement of future ones)

they’ve already made the monthly Assault Raids open all the time rather than cycling

the daily cycle for chalice quests is being done away with so that every element is available every day

they’re drastically boosting daily/weekly raid medal caps, you can do 1 rainbow shard exchange for up to 10 Awakening and Ascension stones a month (rather than 1/month)

a bunch of other limits have been upped/removed entirely

they’re putting Seers Orbs in the exchange shop...

It honestly looks like EoS “just power all your units up as much as possible for fun” is about to go into full swing after tomorrow’s maintenance.

I mean, best case is I suppose they’re planning to, in a future update, drop a new level of unit or do something else to drastically shakeup gameplay so they’re just giving us a leg up to max as many characters as we can to be ready.

But I’ve seen a few games go down, plus I’m...  Well, Rays Global gave me lasting damage lmao, I just can’t trust it.

But I’m honestly afraid for what Cresty going into EoS might do to mobile Tales in the west.  I’m not the only one that took Rays Global hard, and Cresty has been...  Less than stellar with plentiful bugs and poor communication from the devs and poor unit balancing, etc.  If it goes down under these circumstances, I worry it’ll be extremely damaging for Tales in the west on mobile.

Not great for JP fans either, but they still have Rays and Asteria, in addition to the newly added Luminaria...

Though I worry that Luminaria will be hit by splash damage and might lose players/paying players and if Lumi fails in the west that would probably be the final nail in the coffin on mobile Tales ever leaving Japan again.  From what I hear Lumi’s already struggling because it’s so...  Un-Tales-like compared to other games, even the art direction doesn’t look at all like Tales.  So if something damages fandom confidence in the longevity of mobile Tales titles it could really, really suffer from it...

What does Luminaria Twitter have?

More like what don’t they have? Well, it helps that Luminaria Twitter has the biggest JP fandom, so we get a lot of information close to the source material. Twitter feels like it has the biggest global Luminaria fandom too, but I don’t have any concrete numbers to say that definitively.

Let’s start off with a couple of tags before going into more specific and miscellaneous areas!

The ルミナリアユーザーアーカイブ tag is basically the JP twitter equivalent of the EN tumblr Luminaria archive tags. Luminaria fans, whether they’re on the EN or JP side, really think alike sometimes… Fans submit all kinds of screenshots and video clips from the game, so if you’re looking for some references, come take a look! And if you see anything that the tag’s missing, then please feel free to add some screenshots if you’ve got a twitter account!

Last time I checked, we didn’t have any screenshots of Leo’s glasses or sunglasses in the tag, and a couple of characters don’t have references of all their outfits. Hugo might have everything, though; his fans are as meticulous as he is. Lucien’s fans are pretty thorough too, so he might have everything. Edouard too – is this the power of ikemen??? すごいですね！I’m joking; I think Celia and Lydie’s fans might have everything in the tag too

They used to appear almost daily in various Luminaria-related tags to insult the game, anyone related to making the game, and the fans. They’ve also stolen other players’ screenshots and acted as if they played the game themselves. And while they appear to have to moved on by now, they haven’t deleted any of their spam during their aggressive anti-Luminaria phase. I’ll think you’ll have a better experience while browsing after blocking them, and please don’t bother giving them any sort of attention.

The lumiparty2022 tag was used by fans to talk about and share memories while celebrating the 21 days that led up to Tales of Luminaria’s 1st Anniversary. You’ll find lots of game discussion, fanart, fanfic, video uploads, assets ripped from the game, and really, just all kinds of stuff you might be looking for. This tag is just filled to the brim with love for the game and helped bring together many Luminaria fans, whether they’re on the EN side or the JP side.

A thread about the story behind the #ルミナリア料理部 (Luminaria Cooking Club). The user also comments on how the recipes in Luminaria had the touch of a professional, whether they were a chef, nutritionist, or a general researcher. Regardless, an amateur couldn’t come up with these recipes. It’s a fascinating read, and I highly recommend it!

Look Mode References for Leo’s 5 Star “Noble Black Bunny” outfit

If I thought of an Easter Seasonal outfit for Leo, I probably would’ve gone the same route as other Easter Seasonal outfits in other gacha games - pastel blue and green, white bunny ears on a headband, something cute and soft.

So when I first saw Leo’s actual Easter Seasonal outfit, you can imagine my surprise. A black rabbit motif, a cap with pierced black bunny ears, a long black jacket, and a cape with a pretty wicked fanged rabbit design on it. “Cool” didn’t even begin to describe this outfit!

But despite being such an overall cool design with a very cool first impression, this outfit becomes ridiculously cute the more details you notice... The lil rabbit tail at the back of the jacket, the lil carrot-shaped buckles on the belts around his boots, that Leo has a lil bunny plush “hug” the carrot instead of a more conventional “sheath,” the fact that it’s perfectly in-character for Leo to want to go all-out and dress up to celebrate a holiday...

Of course Leo wants to be “noble,” so he probably wants to lean more towards the “cool” side, but I love that he can still have so much natural cuteness. 100000000000000000000000/10 design, would absolutely roll for again!

Leo’s “Noble Black Bunny” is the first outfit I took reference shots for in Look Mode, so there are quite a few “redundant” shots ‘cause I wasn’t sure how to do this in a more “efficient” way yet.

That being said, Leo’s my favorite, so it’s only natural that I notice more details on his outfits than other characters and end up taking more shots as a result...

He has piercings in the bunny ears on his cap, and his lil bunny plush also has piercings in its ears. Leo normally has a lion motif pauldron, but he has a bunny pauldron here, and its bunny ears stick out from the main part of it. Leo has a little carrot design on the ends of his collar. He has miscellaneous motifs on his cap, jacket cuffs, the hem? of his shirt? He has a lil carrot badge, and the buttons on his jacket are diamond-shaped.

And that’s just the start of all the details, we aren’t done yet!

I absolutely needed to get as good of a shot as I could of Leo’s lil bunny ring. Also, I just now noticed that one of my shots has a volume thing on it, and I feel like I’ve been dealt critical physical damagei’msomad.

Luckily, I did take lots of shots of the Noble Carrot Blade’s “sheath.” It can’t actually be called a “sheath” since the blade doesn’t go inside it, but Leo’s lil bunny plushie does “hug” the blade when Leo hasn’t drawn his weapon. Leo’s really great at modeling katana sheaths, and possibly katana guards too.

Also, I was trying to get good shots of the designs on Leo’s pants and the design on the top flaps of Leo’s boots. I think a fan observed that the design on Leo’s pants connects with the design on the top of Leo’s boots, and that design shows up on the Artes circle that appears during Leo’s “Final Fury: Bunny Hop” Mystic Arte.

I would also like to bring attention to Leo’s thighs because normally, Leo’s thighs are fairly slender in his other outfits. His school uniform, in particular, makes his thighs almost shapely. It’s only in the “Noble Black Bunny” outfit that Leo’s thighs are noticeably chubbier. Maybe all that hopping around made the muscles in his thighs thicker??? Good for him! His chubby thighs are cute!
