“Otonari ni Ginga” The Opening Theme, Second Promo

The official website of the television anime that will be based on Gido Amagakure's Otonari ni Ginga (A Galaxy Next Door) manga released the opening tune, a second commercial, and a key image. On April 9 at 1:30 a.m., Tokyo MX and BS11 will air the animation.

Rant of the week: Otonari ni Ginga (A Galaxy Next Door)

Welcome to my weekly rant about a certain thing. I'm not sure what else will follow in the future although I have a small list of things I wanna go through. I try to put out one rant a week (for a not very sociable person like I am that's a lot).

Without further ado let's dive into today's anime of choice: Otonari ni Ginga / A Galaxy Next Door.

A short anime with 12 episodes and in my opinion almost a must watch for lovers of the romance genre.

The story starts with our main character Ichirou Kuga and his two younger siblings Machi and Fumio who have just lost their father to an illness. Now Ichirou is trying to make a living from being a landlord and his passion: a manga artist. He wants to save up enough money to eventually send his siblings off to college if they choose to do so.

However, he is barely making deadlines and now has to care for his siblings on top of his other duties, so he eventually finds an assistant in Shiori Goshiki, a young woman who seems quite artistically talented despite having never drawn manga.

Soon he will find out things about her he could have never imagined.

Without spoiling anything I will say that there is a slight supernatural twist in the story that is the driving force behind the plot.

What makes this show so great? Good question!

It is an adorable story about family and love that blooms in all these characters. Ichirous siblings are the cutest little siblings I have ever seen in an anime. Shiori is a girl from a distant island so she has never had much contact with the outside world. She is also no primitive being but gets excited about the most simple things, making her adorable.

Ichirou is a normal guy who is always willing to help despite the workload on his table but ultimately kinda sucks at socializing making him very relatable.

BUT the biggest plus point is: this anime actually almost exclusively focuses on romance so it's consistently cute and enjoyable for romance lovers. The characters are amazingly written and realistic and not a single one of them is annoying but they're still unique in their own sense.

What was important for me is that these characters are not like shy little teenagers or act on impulse and do something stupid over and over again. The main couple is a shy mess sometimes but that's only because neither of them have any idea how a relationship is supposed to work which makes it even cuter.

In short: A must-watch for romance enjoyers and finally an anime that actually focuses on romance and presents it well.

A Galaxy Next Door was a pretty sweet romance anime! I wasn’t expecting the fantastical element with Goshiki but it added an interesting layer to her character and her relationship with Kuga. I also adored the siblings. Some of my favourite scenes involved Machi.

The relationship between Goshiki and Kuga was sweet. I kinda liked that they confessed early on. The lack of “will-they-won't-they” shenanigans was refreshing! It’s nice that we got to see them being in a relationship for the majority of the season.

I did wish Goshiki’s past and her relationship with her family was expanded more. I felt like drama between her and her mom felt a little forced and wasn’t impactful since there was less buildup.

Overall, this was an enjoyable show!

 [ Aemu was always treated like a child when he was growing up, never taken too seriously and brushed off as being overdramatic, accompanied by the fact that his parents never took his goal of becoming a famous baseball player seriously wasn't helping either.

They discouraged it even saying things such as:

“All you’re gonna do is waste your youth chasing this dream and you’ll end up a miserable old man, why don’t you become a doctor or a dentist like your brothers?”

And

"We didn't spend all that money on tutors and extra lessons for you to become a doped up athlete, you're going to pursue something better than that and that's final. I don't wanna hear about this foolishness anymore."

It stung the most coming from his older brother, he had always been there to cheer him on in everything and yet here he was telling Aemu to give up on his dreams to settle for something safer, something more obtainable.

But he didn't let their words deter him, in fact he worked harder every single day just so that what was once a dream can become reality.

Even if it hurt.

He wanted to prove them wrong.

Upside Down Life

Here I am with the third part of this month’s themed week in “Throwback Thursday”! Today’s subject is always related to the visual kei band Liphlich and we are going to review their second album, entitled Full Course wa sakasa kara (Full course upside down) and released on 2nd October 2013. As said in the title, the full course is the key image of the release, used for explaining the linear life, and turning it upside down is like making our lives more unpredictable. And now... let’s review!

-Machi e deyou (Let’s go to the town): the album starts with a short SE, featuring a enjoyable folk melody, hinting to the extravagant nature of the release.

-Houchou no delicatessen (Softness of listening) [taste of life]: the guitar reprises from the previous track, opening this one with a freaking rock sound, with a really good rhythm, driven by the riffs; Kuga’s voice is piercing, featuring even some falsetto, for a melodious and retrò song, with a good bass work. ---> 9/10

-Hen pig (Weird pig) [beastly nature]: a fast drumming opens a rapid and powerful rock track, with energetic vocals and a whirling rhythm, for a really unpredictable and catchy theme, well built by the riffs. ---> 9/10

-Nagusame ni BET (Bet for comfort) [betting on feelings]: seducing vocals open the song, in a retrò and rhythmical rock theme, with a fast piano building up a cheerful rock sound, for a really catchy track. ---> 9/10

-Vessel -album ver.- [everything flows and goes on]: coming from their first single, this song is opened by a soft melody, with a strong rhythm and an intense guitar for a majestical sound; Kuga’s voice is soft and warm, with the bass accompaining it, in a well built rock ballad. ---> 9.5/10

-Daikeikaku (Great plan) [dream which frees the mind]: the piercing and sensual guitar kicks off the slow and peculiar theme of this song; the vocals are dark and chilling, building an unexpected and astonishing vocal interpretation, for a gothic-ish and freaking rock track. ---> 9.5/10

-Manslow Mansion -album ver.- [grotesque house]: directly from the sixth single, this song starts with a fast beat and rapid vocals, featuring a strong rhythm inside a dark and grotesque rock sound, for a powerful and fresh rock song, where can be heard the true essence of this band. ---> 9.5/10

-Tsuki no tabetara oyasumi yo -album ver.- (Goodnight if you eat the moon) [night which takes away the love]: this song, coming from the third single, is started by a warm classical guitar, leading up to clearer and slower theme, with a good rhythm; the vocals are suggestive and flowing in a soft melody, featuring even the violin, for an energetic and heartful ballad. ---> 9.5/10

-Fiddle-dee-dee [leaving behind any thought]: an electronic beat opens this song, with a fast rhythm inside a dance rock sound, in an upbeat and unusual atmosphere; Kuga’s voice is biting and rapid, for a peculiar track even for them. ---> 8.5/10

-Ms. Luminous -album ver.- [not being only a memory]: the lead-track of the second single is opened by an exotic and flowing melody played by the violin; then the rhythm goes in warm, along with the deep guitar, astonishing vocals and a romantic atmosphere, for one of the best songs by Liphlich. ---> 10/10

-John & Jane Doe [relationship between two people]: a fast cadenced rhythm, with a relevant bass playing, opens the song, rapid and steady in the sound; Kuga alternates between whispered parts and vibrant notes, with sudden changes; a good rock tune, mainly driven by the bass and a certain technique. ---> 9/10

-Manic Pixie -album ver.- [doing something for living]: a whistle opens the lead-track of the fifth single, with a definitely grotesque style; the sound features a fast drumming and powerful guitar riffs, where the vocals are dark and vibrant at the right level, for a freaking and catchy track. ---> 9/10

-Shujin no rakuen (Husband’s paradise) [not going down]: the album ends with another outstanding ballad, started by an ethereal melody; Kuga sings with incredibly clear tones, accompained by a suadent sound, where the guitar joins in, making it even stronger, for a powerful ending for the release. ---> 10/10

Final Vote ---> 9/10

Liphlich, formerly known as Gordie, started their own career showing off their freaking and peculiar image since the first notes, developing it in different uses and derivations. After a debut album, a bunch of singles and a fascinating mini-album, the band consolidated themselves with Full Course wa sakasa kara. This album offers precisely a wide menu of sounds, going from energetic tunes, freaking atmospheres, unexpected experimentations and powerful ballads, the true highlight. So this band has achieved to become appreciated in a majestical way, with a proper “gourmet” release. An album for who wants to taste the several styles of Liphlich, mad, freaking and intense like none.
