A story about how I almost got lost at sea and something different for a photo. For the photo, I tried my hand for the first time at macro photography. With the new year upon us this photo represents a new beginning. Throughout our lives we are constantly growing and evolving. Eventually, you hope to attain clarity or perhaps enlightenment. As the flower starts from seed so do we, to enjoy the sunshine for a brief moment in time. So I had been riding for about an hour. My legs and arms were somewhat fatigued from the waves. Its a lot different riding out in the ocean than an inter coastal body of water! So I meet back at the drop off which is about 2 miles off-shore. I see a couple skis off in the distance and for a split second lose focus and get dumped off the ski by a wave. No biggie as I gained my composure and rescued one of my rainbow sandals. Y’all know how much I love my rainbows!😂 So I’m probably 20 feet away from the ski and I start swimming to it, only problem is that with the wind and current, I can’t get to it! So I decide to conserve energy and make my way back to shore, which is a long ways away. I don’t panic, I stay calm and assume someone will find me. In my minds eye I even imagine this. So I’m floating around hitting my whistle and I see a boat approach the ski. They are accessing the situation and looking for me. It’s not easy at all to see someone like that from a boat. You have waves, sun etc. So I’m waving my rainbows in the air to get his attention and eventually he sees me. Pulls up to me and rescues me, thanks Carlos! Says it was my lucky day because a month ago 3 people capsized their boat and the other 2 were never found, both were wearing life vest. I don’t fear death nor do I have a death wish. For me, living a life of comfort and not taking risk is far greater than death. Like Alan Watts said “It’s better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing, than a long life spent in a miserable way.” Merry Christmas everyone! Almost to Charlotte then headed west!
