Pretty Smelling Pink. A Horsefly rests in the middle of a thistle flower. This beautiful magnified photograph takes you close into their world and you begin to get a sense of the scale these insects are working with. ∴ I was wandering around the forest during mushroom season, letting the forest lead me to the treasures she likes to hide under her skirts. When I see bright red/orange my excitement just peaks, I know it’s an Amanita (or one is so hopeful). I wonder what the mushroom see’s when I stop mid walk to run towards it to admire its beauty, snap some glamour shots, & then admire some more. This one was tucked under a huge fern, I decided to shoot this one mid-walk to the mushroom, the framing of the fern leaves were just too perfect to resist. ∴⁣ 𐄁⁣⁣⁣ 𐄁⁣⁣✶⁣Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric)⁣

You Are What You Eat. A large wasp spider with its victim, a common wasp. These spiders, although named after wasps for their colourings and markings don't usually feed on wasps, their prey are usually grasshoppers, crickets and moths as these insects are typically found in the open heathland habitat in which they tend to build their webs. A Member of The Orchestra of The Meadows. This is a portrait of a Meadow grasshopper. Its a large common species that can be found in mainly damp, non-cultivated pastures and meadows between April to October. Getting close to this lovely specimen was an enormous task. I had to get down flat on my stomach in deep vegetation and avoid the web of a large Wasp spider on my left, whilst not disturbing a few Roesel's bush-crickets on my right, because if they got spooked then their jumping would definitely have made this grasshopper jump too. A very slow approach was needed and one last look to check the Wasp spider was in the centre of its web and that the crickets hadn't moved or been disturbed then I was ready to move in with precision. Grasshoppers are smart in general and if they detect a threat then they will try to hide behind the bit of vegetation they're on, always trying to keep out of sight. This specimen began to do the same thing, then waiting a bit after I thought the shot was done for allowed the grasshopper to relax and come out of hiding a bit.
