Hii , I love your blog and your thoughts on SNS! But I want to ask you.. what is your opinion on Itachi?? Everyone thinks of him as such a noble character , but there’s some stuff about him I never understood…
I don’t fault him for the uchiha massacre or even joining the Akatsuki, I understood why he had to resort to those..
But why did he pressure Sasuke onto a path of Revenge and darkness?? Like it’s one thing for Sasuke himself to seek itachi out for revenge if he wanted to…but Itachi is the one who really forces that on him
Like shouldn’t he want Sasuke to find happiness? To be able to somehow overcome his traumatic childhood and learn to be happy again? If Itachi hadn’t shown up to the village and put Sasuke in that tsukuyomi , Sasuke may have actually given up on that dark path
He also asks him to awaken the Mangekyo sharingan by taking his best friend’s life..Sasuke has already been through so much , why burden him with the prospect of killing his best friend and his own brother as well?
The best reasoning I could think up for this was that Itachi wanted Sasuke to have the mangekyo to be able to stand up against Madara if he came after him…but I don’t think this was actually stated in canon? I’m not sure , it’s just my speculation…. But if Madara is what he was worried about , he could have tried killing him or anonymously tipping off the village somehow.. because if Itachi can’t kill him alone , how can Sasuke alone manage to??
Aside from these actions I’ve always thought of Itachi as a really interesting character.. but these have always seriously bothered me and I’m not sure if I’m just overlooking something… So I wanted to ask you what you think about it.. Thanks!!
Thanks for this wonderful ask, anon!!!!
Please bare with my very very lengthy answer.
[[DISCLAIMER : Anti-Itachi stans, Stay out of this post. Do Not Interact. Extreme Fanatics of Sasuke who believes, ‘Sasuke did nothing wrong and should have burnt Konoha’, Do not Interact or Reblog.]]
Everyone thinks of him as such a noble character , but there’s some stuff about him I never understood… what is your opinion on Itachi??
I am just going to alter the common saying,
“Nobility is in the eyes of the beholder”
Itachi will look like a Noble Person when you view him from the lens of a common citizen of a country which was corrupted so much on every level and then you wish for a leader who would place the people as his priority rather than his own family members.
Itachi will look like a bad bitch when you view him from the lens of a Clan Member who was fanning the flames for a Coup.
Itachi will look like a Hero when you view him from the lens of an objective viewer who thoroughly understands the pain he was willing to endure for the sake of his Brother and His Village.
Itachi will look like a moron when you view him from the lens of the Extreme fanatics of Sasuke who believes Sasuke did nothing wrong and he should’ve burnt Konoha. Or the version of Sasuke, created by the fandom who never understood the true brotherly love between them. Or the fandom who never paid any attention to the clues in the Manga or Anime and feels like Itachi turning good was retconned at the end.
Itachi will look like an overprotective brother when you view him from the lens of Sasuke, written by Kishimoto who made every effort to portray their bond as emotional as possible. When you pay a shipper level attention to all the panels shared between Itachi and Sasuke, you will feel their lovely bond.
I belong to the first and third and fifth category, Anon.
Does it mean am I trying to say ‘Itachi did nothing wrong?’
Nope. He did many wrong things.
Does it mean am I trying to say ‘Itachi’s treatment of Sasuke was right?’
That you will know at the end of the post.
Before that, Let’s see the bond between Itachi and Sasuke.
I believe, part of the reason, people couldn’t understand Itachi’s relationship with Sasuke is because of the Cultural Difference. Am not claiming this as some hard facts. It’s just my observation from the time I spent in a western country and the Media I’ve consumed so far.
There is this anon ask from Argentina, who sent me about the frustration he/she felt about the family portrayal in Boruto because Naruto resembles that anon’s Mother and Sasuke resembles that anon’s Father. I’ve linked it, and you can read if you want. In Short, The asker mentioned that they generally share a closed relationship with their parents. And I’ve noticed this in many movies like Interstellar, Coco, Mrs. Doubt Fire where Parent-Child relationship was the predominant plot. It all has a common theme that one of the parent abandons or got separated from the child due to number of reasons.
So, From all the above instances, Can I safely assume that generally kids from western countries craves for Parental love and attention? I repeat, generally... not everyone. Even though many kids have a sibling, they still wish for their parents to be with them. Even though Murph Cooper, in Interstellar, has her brother Tom Cooper, she still needed her Father and was weeping like a little child when she realized her father abandoned her even at the age of 37.
Whereas the situation in Asian countries are quite contrast. Here, Kids spends most of their time with their Siblings. Because most Orthodox Parents draw a clear boundaries with their children. (Again, there are many friendly parents are there.... But mostly you will find Parents who are very strict to their kids. If you don’t believe me, ask any International Asian students who came to study in your country about their parents). It’s the same case with me too. I never hugged my dad like Murph hugs her Father, in Interstellar. Whereas with my sister, I hug her a lot. My parents who cares about our well being, focus most of their time on their jobs. Whereas it was me who played the parental role for my sister whenever they are not at home (most of the times, they won’t). So, that’s why my Sister respects and adores me a lot. While we know our parents are working hard for us, we learnt to deal with our problems without them and we don’t crave for their love or attention as much as the western kids does. Because I have my sister and she has me to share our problems.
[[That’s why the problems of Boruto and Sarada looks trivial for me]]
I thought this is just related to my family. But, I was astounded to find this similar Sibling Dynamics in many popular Asian media like Japan and China as well. The following pictures are taken from Grave of the fireflies (An Anti - War Japanese Movie), The Untamed (most successful Chinese TV series), Naruto (Japanese Anime). All three of them portrays Sibling relationship where the person who carries the younger one plays almost similar role to that of a parent.

Now how is this related to Itachi and Sasuke, you ask? I am just going to explain that now.
THE BOND BETWEEN ITACHI AND SASUKE
ITACHI AS A MOTHER
Remember I mentioned about Sibling playing a parental role?

This tender cradling gesture refers to motherly care and protection.
This is what I meant. This is the exact thing I was talking about earlier. I did this a lot when my mom goes out to purchase household stuffs leaving my 5-month old baby sister with me when I was just 5.
Kishi clearly shows us that Itachi was not just Sasuke’s brother. But Sasuke’s Mother in this scene. And he established this motherly bond when Itachi was just 5 and Sasuke was a new born baby. We have seen Mikoto carrying baby Sasuke and introduced to Kushina before the Kyuubi Incident. But when it comes to a life-threatening situation like this, it was Itachi who played the mother role here.
Even when Sasuke was a crawling baby, he was shown playing happily with Itachi and not his mother.

ITACHI AS A PLAYFUL BROTHER

In this panel, a 3 or 4 year old Sasuke getting so excited when he heard his Brother has reached home and went onto Bear Hug him tightly.
Physical touches represents the strength of attachment with the family members, especially when it comes to a child. In both of the above panels, Sasuke seems to be very attached to Itachi.
Even though, Sasuke’s mom was at home, he clearly prefers spending time with him. God!!! My Sister does this all the time when I come back from the School. Kishi could’ve drawn something like this for Sasuke who gets excited by the presence of his Dad or Mom.
But No.
That was given to Itachi only. And that’s because, Sasuke feels Itachi gives him the attention and support which his parents failed to provide. Probably because they were busy working. And, Just like me, Sasuke doesn’t crave attention from his parents. For him, Itachi’s love and presence is fulfilling enough. And this is the panel where Kishi is telling us that, even amongst his family members, Sasuke places Itachi on a high pedestal.
We have seen how Itachi plays a central role in Sasuke’s formative years of his life.
You may question me that ‘All the above panels were introduced after Itachi’s death. So isn’t it retconned to show Itachi was always a Loving Brother?’
I think their bond was clearly established in part 1 itself. We start their flashback with the following panel.
This image and the panels that follows in the Manga sums up their relationship perfectly.
A Sibling who carries was aware of what’s happening around but the one who was in the back had his eyes closed and was completely oblivious of what’s happening. (Isn’t this what their entire story is about? Itachi knows what’s going on in his Clan but Sasuke was totally kept in the dark and was oblivious. Sigh!!!! Genius, Kishimoto!!)This gesture means, Sasuke trusts Itachi more than anyone in this world.
You are now thinking that I paused the video at a random second where Sasuke closes his eyes and captured the image, right? Nahhh!!!! Kishi drew it that way.

We see Sasuke was watching Itachi practicing Shuriken Jutsu with an admiration from the distance. He saw his brother and wants to practice with him, but too bad he got his ankle sprained and hence Itachi carrying Sasuke on his back and on the way they talk about the Uchiha clan history and The Police Force.

These scenes shows us that Sasuke learns most of the stuffs from his Brother. He likes to spend his time with Itachi a lot.
Kishi may be anything, but he is super brilliant in conveying the extent of relationship between characters in a single panel. This above picture is the example of it.
We saw earlier when Sasuke was with Itachi, he was so relaxed, excited and very close. There was no hesitation or distance. But few pages later, when it comes to his father, we see a clear distance. This is the distance I was talking about earlier. This shows that Fugaku is not a person who is very friendly with his kids. He is a stern man who shoulders many responsibilities and commands respect, even from his kids. God!!! He is just like my dad.
This is not the one time occurrence in this series.
This represents, Butsuma Senju is a dad who maintains a clear boundaries with his kids. You can’t expect him to be friendly with you. And there is no place for Arguments with this person. If he says something, you must obey. Otherwise, you will get a good slap [[Don’t take this as abuse, parents punishing kids here, is normal]]. Of course he cares about his kids’ safety but he won’t be open about it.
Now, What about Sasuke’s Mother?
Again, another similarity with my family. This stance represents Mikoto is a person who would take her husband’s side, no matter what. She won’t be mediating between her kid and her husband, if there’s any argument. In short, Mikoto won’t defy her husband’s decision about anything and is unopinionated.
However, I find this very interesting when Sasuke makes a conversation with his father and mother.

The contents of his conversation with his parents are mostly about Itachi. I mean 95% of them. Which means, Sasuke noticed something wrong with his Brother after joining ANBU and was avoiding Sasuke like a burden, So Sasuke wants to know the reason behind this. So, he resorts to the opinion of his parents.
Yes, Mikoto cares a lot about Sasuke just like any other mother and that’s about it.
ITACHI AS A FATHER

This is an interesting scene which explores Sasuke’s relationship with his father. Sasuke shows his Report Cart from his Academy to his father and was eagerly waiting for an acknowledgement. Instead, all he got was an empty compliment that made a comparison to Itachi ‘Keep this up just like your Brother’, which frustrated Sasuke a lot!!!
Whereas something different happened when Sasuke shows the same report card to Itachi.

Itachi saw the report card and saw right through Sasuke that he feels jealous about him because of the attention he is getting from their father. But somehow, he eases Sasuke’s heart by reassuring that he will be with him as a barrier to overcome and surpass him. God!!! What a foreshadow!!! This heartwarming talk is something Sasuke fondly remembers a lot in the future.
Now, All these panels from part 1 shows that Itachi acted as more than a sibling for Sasuke. He tells stories to Sasuke like a Mother, he checks his performance in Academy just like a Father.
And that’s why I’ve written earlier, that ITACHI IS EVERYTHING FOR SASUKE.
Well, I’m not the only person to say this. Even Databook 2 says the same.
“His brother who was everything...and the one who took away everything.”
“Itachi was everything his world for Sasuke”
Again this is the Databook which was released after the end of Part 1. So, anyone who claims Itachi playing good brother is something that was retconned, I would say they had never read the manga properly. Even Kishi said that, when he introduced Itachi after Hiruzen’s funeral, he wanted to make him a good guy.
We see, in his flashback, Sasuke was never seen interacting with his classmates or any other clan members. Even among his family members, Sasuke’s priority was Itachi. So, the loss of his parents and the clan hurts him a lot. But Itachi’s betrayal hurts him even more than anything that he couldn’t comprehend. That’s why even after the massacre, Sasuke could pull himself up, got stronger and remained a sane kid. But the loss of Itachi sent him to the edge of the cliff and he lost himself completely to the Vengeance.
Now that, I’ve tried my best to show their bond, It’s easier for me to answer your questions, Anon.
SASUKE’S PATH OF REVENGE
But why did he pressure Sasuke onto a path of Revenge and darkness?? Like it’s one thing for Sasuke himself to seek itachi out for revenge if he wanted to…but Itachi is the one who really forces that on him
Like shouldn’t he want Sasuke to find happiness?
Before answering this, I want to pose a question, ‘What will Itachi gain from snatching Sasuke’s happiness? If he doesn’t want him to be happy, he could’ve killed him along with his parents, isn’t? ’...
Remember, I said earlier, that Itachi has done many wrong things.
Slaughtering his clan was one among them. Yes, He did it for the Village but it is an undeniable fact that he also killed Women and Children of his own clan. And therefore, he needs to be punished for his crimes.
Well, you may ask, ‘If Itachi felt extremely guilty, he could’ve committed a suicide’. Well, He cannot. Because,
First off, He is a shinobi who decided to protect Konoha and he cannot let someone like Madara leading an organization like Akatsuki, otherwise whatever he did so far will go to waste.
Second off, He cannot leave Sasuke alone at that stage. He needs to live long enough to see Sasuke becomes strong enough to protect himself by surpassing him.
Third off, By staying in Akatsuki, Danzo will hesitate to lay a finger on Sasuke.
So for Sasuke and the Village, Itachi needs to endure this pain longer.
That’s Why Itachi set a path for Sasuke. And that path is,
To make Sasuke stronger rather than wailing in sadness.

To make Sasuke, a hero of Konoha, the man who killed a vile criminal to avenge his clan.

To be judged and punished only by another Uchiha.
Sasuke, the lone survivor of Uchiha is the best person to strike him down as a way to atone for the sins he committed. Also, this is another way to pass on a new power to Sasuke.

And most importantly, Sasuke needs to become stronger in order to protect himself from future danger. Itachi knows full well that he is going to leave Sasuke all alone in a village where Sasuke’s safety is unguaranteed because of bastards like Danzo.

The last factor is the prime reason why Itachi set him on that path.
Yes, Itachi did leave Sasuke in the hands of Hiruzen to take good care. But, Without Sasuke becoming stronger by himself there is no way his safety is assured forever. Because of his rare Kekkei Genkai, sooner or later people like Danzo will target him and make him their pawn, just like what they did with Itachi. For that, Sasuke needs a goal and a determination. And Itachi did everything in his power to make himself as a target to strike.
Just like Itachi expected, Someone like Danzo targeted Sasuke later, but it was Orochimaru. If only Sasuke remained as a kid who was lost in sadness or lived a carefree happy life, then Orochimaru would’ve easily taken his body long back.
That’s why Itachi set him onto the path of Vengeance. Also, there was no other way to make Sasuke stronger.
If anyone thinks there is a better way that Itachi should’ve followed rather than putting Sasuke into this path, Please let me know. I am willing to consider it.
And you also asked me, Anon, that, ‘Like shouldn’t Itachi want Sasuke to find happiness?’
Well, Unlike in our real world, where the threat of losing our life is extremely less, Itachi and Sasuke are living in the Ninja world, where Sasuke’s safety is in a precarious position.
What is important? Happiness or Safety?
As I said before, Itachi was no more just a brother for Sasuke after the massacre, he was the only last living relation who was also equivalent to his father and his mother. As someone who was left with an 8 year old kid brother to take care of and for an unavoidable reason, that person has to leave this kid all alone, Itachi chose Sasuke’s Safety rather than Happiness.
If I were Itachi, I would also do the same. What would you do, Anon?
Isn’t that what Itachi promised his father before striking him down?

Like shouldn’t he want Sasuke to find happiness? To be able to somehow overcome his traumatic childhood and learn to be happy again?
Hmmm, I always wanted to write about this in a separate post. Using this ask as my chance!!!
Now, this is where many people in the fandom blurs the line between reality and fiction. Even if we apply the real world logic into this fictional world, I still find this statement to be an over-exaggeration.
Was Sasuke really traumatized heavily?
People go way too overboard when it comes to Sasuke and many people still thinks he was under heavy trauma, even at the end of chapter 699. It's like they are playing Victim Card for Sasuke just like how Sakura wankers play their card for their queen. I was like, 'No!!! Sasuke has a much stronger personality than a mere victim.'.
To be honest, Sasuke was not Severely Traumatized as everyone claims. He overcame his trauma long back, I mean around the time when he was watching Naruto and was completely fine when he became a Genin. All he had was hatred and vengeance towards Itachi. Yes, a mild trauma might exist somewhere in his heart. But it’s not upto the level, how fandom exaggerates it to be.
Sasuke is a physically, mentally and emotionally strong character just like Naruto. He is not a person to wail in past miseries and behave like a crybaby. He is super strong and gets back up even stronger immediately whenever shit happens to him. At the same time, he is way too emotionally vulnerable towards the people he loves the most. In his case, Itachi and Naruto.
And Why do I say he was not severely traumatized?

This is Sasuke in his Genin Days and the last one in the corner is sometime after the massacre.
Do you really think a traumatic kid can pout, blush, get mad, call names, make fun and smile after the massacre just by seeing someone???
A Traumatic kid will never behave like this. Instead, they will be more violent or seclude themselves alone, sometime they get night mares in their sleep, they don’t talk with anyone and many more. If you don’t believe me, read the linked article. It’s about the behaviours of people suffering from trauma and how to overcome it. Sasuke displays none of it. Because he is a crazy fucking Strong person and that’s why we call him a Hero. If he cries and drench himself in sorrow, then he is no different from you or me.
Sasuke might have been Traumatic right after the massacre but he saw Naruto and felt he was not alone and smiled. Any time he watches Naruto after that, he felt relieved even, which means Sasuke was slowly healing. What I am trying to say here is Trauma can be overcome by many factors. Namely, finding friends, involving themselves in recreational works. So, I believe Sasuke overcame his grief long ago. Plus, He is super similar to Naruto in this aspect.
This is who Naruto is. No matter how life treats him bad, he will get back up and come stronger. Especially after Iruka’s Acknowledgement, Naruto became Trauma free, I mean 1 or 2% may be left in his heart, but that’s all. Same with Sasuke. He might have been in Trauma until age 10, but when he became a Genin, it was evident that he was not under severe trauma.
But, if you want to know, who was a real traumatic person in Part 1, Then that title goes to,
Gaara is the kid who was extremely similar to Naruto and Sasuke in part 1 in terms of life experience called Loneliness. But you can see a clear difference between his behaviour and with Naruto & Sasuke. You never see Gaara looks peaceful or happy or smiling or behave like a 12 year old kid for that matter.
But once he fought with Naruto, he was open to bonding with his siblings and became completely normal at the end of Part 1 when he fought with Kimimaro while helping Lee.
So, let’s take TRAUMA out of the equation. Anon. For me, Naruto and Sasuke taught me how to get over from a shitty situation and get back stronger than before. Because they are some crazy bastards who are extremely strong mentally and physically. Pulling out a Victim Card for them, is not so heroic, isn’t it?
TSUKUYOMI - ITACHI & SASUKE
If Itachi hadn’t shown up to the village and put Sasuke in that tsukuyomi , Sasuke may have actually given up on that dark path
It was already mentioned that Itachi came to the village to warn the Higher Ups of Konoha that he is still alive.
And Do you think Itachi’s Tsukuyomi is the only reason for Sasuke to walk on that dark path, Anon?
I don’t think so.
It was because of many collective factors that played a role in Sasuke’s destiny.
Like,
Orochimaru’s Cursed Seal
Naruto was getting super strong in such a short time.
Itachi’s complete disinterest towards Sasuke and was more interested on Naruto
Sound Ninjas arrival.
Tsukuyomi is the least of Sasuke’s problem. How?
Because, right after Sasuke became conscious, all he ever thought about was
How to get Stronger?
How did Naruto became strong enough to beat Gaara?
What was he doing this whole time after Massacre?
Why Itachi never paid any attention to him?
If Sasuke thought about the massacre and got up with Nightmares and stuffs, then I will believe Itachi’s Tsukuyomi is the reason for his departure.
However, Itachi’s indifferent attitude towards Sasuke acted as the catalyst. If only Itachi had given proper attention to him, probably Sasuke would not have deserted the village. But still Sasuke is a Ticking Time Bomb ready to explode at anytime. Because, Orochimaru would have made sure to grab Sasuke at any given chance.
As for why Itachi put Tsukuyomi on Sasuke, because they belong to the powerful Uchiha clan who uses Visual Prowess as their source of Power. Itachi is demonstrating he is stronger than Sasuke by using one of the powerful Visual Prowess, Tsukuyomi, in his kitty. All Sasuke has to do is to counter Tsukuyomi when they meet again in the battle next time.
And I guess you know what happened next , Anon, when Sasuke battled Itachi!!!!
Itachi put Tsukuyomi again on Sasuke.

THIS IS WHAT ITACHI MEANT BY ACTING AS A BARRIER FOR SASUKE TO SURPASS HIM. MEANING, ITACHI WILL POSE NEW CHALLENGES AND SASUKE HAS TO OVERCOME IT, TO BECOME STRONGER

Yeah, Sasuke broke the Tsukuyomi. Meaning, Sasuke has grown powerful enough to beat Mangekyo Sharingan with a simple Sharingan. Not only that, Sasuke took on Danzo with 10 Sharingans + Wood Style Jutsu and killed him easily, because of Sasuke’s sheer strength and power.
Again Anon, people are taking that Tsukuyomi very seriously when in reality, Sasuke himself didn’t bother about it after he wakes up. He just took it as a challenge and overcame it. LIKE A REAL HERO.
If Itachi put Tsukuyomi on you or me, then we are done for. But Sasuke is in a Ninja World with a Sharingan who wields powerful Visual Prowess. So putting Tsukuyomi on Sasuke is not a big deal to blow out of proportion, I guess.
However, even to me, The First Tsukuyomi right after the massacre was definitely horrible to look at, Anon. Especially when Sasuke was just 8. But I know full well, why Itachi did that. He did it in order to make Sasuke hate him.
And yet what Sasuke did after?
Young Sasuke got up from that Tsukuyomi and chased after his brother.
This innocent child couldn’t believe Itachi’s genjutsu, no matter how the truth was shown to him in a horrible way. This shows the Bond and the Trust between them was definitely hard to break. And scenes like this made me bawling.
And that’s why Itachi had to resort to such crueler methods, to make Sasuke hate him completely.
Again, Am not justifying Itachi. Am just showing you both the perspectives.
But Again, I always get this question from people,
‘Why Itachi manipulated Sasuke and used him like an object?. Okay.
Obito used and manipulated Sasuke because he intended to use Sasuke as a pawn to control Gedo Statue.
Orochimaru used Sasuke like an object because he needs his Sharingan.
Everyone planned to gain something from Sasuke. And that’s why we call this process as Manipulation.
What will Itachi gain from using Sasuke as an Object???? If he doesn’t gain anything, how is this called Manipulation? Even until his dying breath, he wanted to pass on his powers to protect Sasuke. How is this behaviour can be termed as using Sasuke as an Object???’.
I clearly don’t understand their perspectives.
MANGEKYO SHARINGAN - ITACHI & SASUKE
He also asks him to awaken the Mangekyo sharingan by taking his best friend’s life..Sasuke has already been through so much , why burden him with the prospect of killing his best friend and his own brother as well?
As for burdening Sasuke to killing his own brother, I’ve explained the reason above. It’s to make Sasuke, a hero who killed his mad brother and protect Uchiha’s honour. It’s to make Sasuke stronger, pass on a new power to protect himself from people like Danzo and Obito.
And also, The moment Itachi decided to protect Sasuke at the expense of killing his entire clan, an inevitable burden was already fell on Sasuke. Compared to that, the burden you mentioned above is nothing, Anon.
As for awakening Mangekyo Sharingan, Itachi has already told Sasuke that he killed their parents in order ‘To Measure his capacity’. Added to that Itachi also said he killed Shisui (a lie) to get his Mangekyo. Meaning, ‘I am the wielder of the ultimate sharingan which is very rare to awaken. So far, there are only two people including myself who has this thing. If you wish to attain this strongest sharingan, then you have to kill your best friend just like me’.
It’s just an indirect way of telling Sasuke to obtain power in his own way rather than following a murderer’s way of attaining power. It’s also another word choice to make Sasuke detest him forever as he projects himself as a person who killed his Best Friend to attain power.
[[Sasuke did exactly what Itachi indicated at the end of VoTE1. He decided to obtain power in his own way]]
Itachi knows full well about Sasuke that he couldn’t do something which bothers his heart. Also, SNS shippers knows very well that Sasuke always hesitates at the last moment when it comes to killing Naruto. It’s no wonder Itachi also knew this.
Itachi teased about his confidence when Sasuke said that he will kill him. But when the moment arrived, looking eye to eye with Itachi, all Sasuke could do was nothing.
Again Itachi is teasing him when Sasuke told that he will destroy Konoha. And we all know what happened later. Sasuke hesitated and wanted to know more about things like Village, Clan and Shinobi before continuing with his plan.
Well, Itachi does know about Sasuke like the back of his hand.!!!
And I don’t have to attach scenes depicting Sasuke’s hesitation to kill Naruto, Do I?
BURDENS OF SASUKE
You make a very good point about burdening Sasuke, Anon. But don’t you think Sasuke is not the only person to be left with such burden. Naruto was also left with a horrible burden to bear. And that’s what make them heroes, isn’t it? If Sasuke and Naruto was left with no burdens, then they would just be like Kiba or Chouji.
And why Naruto and Sasuke was left with such a burden? Because the people related to both of these boys are not ordinary shinobis. They carried a heavy burden of Protecting Konoha with their lives and it’s only natural that some of their burdens are left to take over by these boys. In their case Minato and Itachi.
People think Itachi and Minato abused these boys by making them suffer. These kind of accusations are totally against the motto of the series. The core theme of the series is, ‘People protect what’s more important to them. While protecting it, they lose their life. They may lose their lives, but their Will lives on. It’s upto the people who was protected by them to continue their legacy’.
Jiraiya died for Naruto. His Will was to remove Hatred from the shinobi world. Naruto did took upon his Will to fight Nagato and succeeded in it.
Itachi died for Sasuke. His Will was to protect Konoha and Sasuke, who should live long enough to carry on Uchiha’s honour. Sasuke took upon his Will in the end.
And when I re-watched this series, I was astounded by the fact that how much Sasuke and Naruto’s life was destined to be similar. One or two similarities is coincidental, but I found 9.
Though Kishi never made any parallels between Itachi and Minato directly, but he made indirect parallels for us viewers to piece it together.
And that’s what I did.
Let’s see the parallels between Itachi and Minato.
Talk about stopping the war, single handedly.

Itachi prevented the civil war in Konoha and on top of that another World War by himself. Minato stopped the Third Shinobi World War single handedly by killing 1000 shinobis from Iwagakure.

Sasuke was entrusted to Hiruzen after Itachi slaughtered his clan. Naruto was entrusted to Hiruzen after sealing Kyuubi.

Both Itachi and Minato wanted those boys to become Hero of Konoha.

Both Sasuke and Naruto were asking ‘Why did you do this to me?’ to Itachi and Minato. This is very funny and heartwarming at the same time. Both Sasuke and Naruto are questioning in a much similar tone about ‘Why did you put this burden on me?’

Both Itachi and Minato were apologizing to the boys for not being a good Brother and good Father. Especially the word choice, ‘I have no right to act like ___’

Itachi passed on his powers to Sasuke to protect himself from Madara. Minato sealed Kyuubi Chakra to face Madara in the future.

Both Itachi and Minato entrust their emotions to Sasuke and Naruto respectively.

Itachi and Minato leave the living realm and wave ‘Good Bye’ for one last time.
And the final similarity is this.

The Will of Itachi is to Protect Konoha and ALSO THE UCHIHA’S NAME which was passed onto him by Shisui. The Will of Minato is to protect the Shinobi World from Obito in future.
Now, Anon, you asked me Why put such a burden on Sasuke? Because Itachi believed that Someday Sasuke will become a Hero of Konoha by striking the Evil Man called Itachi and carry on Uchiha name as a proud Konoha Shinobi. Just like Minato believed in Naruto. It’s not that they wanted to force this upon the boys, but it’s simply because they had no other options.
That’s why Itachi did all these things to make Sasuke stronger. But what he didn’t expect was that Sasuke would desert the village, know about his truth and become a criminal. He regrets about his decision at the end though.

It’s all because Itachi tried to shoulder all the burdens by himself. He believed he could protect the village by joining Akatsuki all alone but at the end, he couldn’t see the big picture and was used by Obito through and through. He only thought Akatsuki were planning to collect the Tailed Beasts, he doesn’t know about the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan.

Itachi came to the village and casually mentioned that ‘Naruto is the number one priority of Akatsuki’.
Now tell me, Anon, Is there any kidnapper in this world, who would shout out the name of the Organization out loud and inform that ‘I am going to kidnap this boy. Oh, By the way I am from Akatsuki!!’ ????
This is Itachi’s way of tipping the information. If he had knew about something else, he would’ve passed on the news somehow.

In the end, Itachi tried to fix his mistakes by leaving Sasuke with Naruto and stopped the Edo Tensei no Jutsu, which played a major role in the War.
He also regretted not thinking anything from Sasuke’s POV which hurted him even more. He said, ‘You don’t have to forgive me’.....

But Sasuke already forgave him because Love always overpowers everything no matter how much it hurts.

So, their Brotherly Bond had its dark phase, betrayal, hurt, pain and lies. But Sasuke could only see the Love of Itachi beyond everything in the end.
And that is how I see it. This is what Kishimoto intended to show us.
Since, you said you like my thoughts on SNS, I take it you are also an SNS shipper, Anon. Keeping that in mind, there’s one thing that I cannot understand in SNS fandom who hates Itachi. (I am not pointing you, anon. Since you already understood why he did about what he did.)
Why is it that Itachi was seen as an abuser or a moron for hurting Sasuke, but not Sasuke who hurt Naruto many times?
I’ve seen a post where one of the anon asked a popular SNS shipper, ‘SNS is a toxic ship because Sasuke tried to kill Naruto many times’.
To which the blogger responded with, ‘Sasuke did it because he was told that Killing Naruto would get him Mangekyo. But at the end, he couldn’t. After all they are Ninjas. They live to fight. Coming into the Shinobi world and expecting them to behave like people in our real world is funny and it’s not toxic according to the Ninja world standards’
A very good, amazing, rational and objective response. I too felt the same.
But only when it comes to Itachi, why hold the standards of our real world with respect to Sasuke? After all, they both are top class Shinobis who wields Sharingan. It’s only natural, they fight it out with the power of their eyes. Itachi demonstrated his strength so that some day Sasuke would surpass him. Unlike Sasuke who really tried to kill Naruto, Itachi never did anything to kill Sasuke.
Why hate Itachi’s attitude towards Sasuke but celebrate SNS? Why this hypocrisy? This is the hypocrisy I just don’t understand from this fandom.
You, Anon, asked my opinion, whether Itachi’s treatment of Sasuke was right?
If someone thinks Sasuke’s attitude towards Naruto was right, then Itachi’s treatment was right too. Otherwise, I would term it as a blatant hypocrisy.
My answer is, I see a beautiful and innocent love hiding in Sasuke’s heart which he wanted to destroy badly. But he simply couldn’t. Even though, he tried to hurt Naruto, the motivation behind his actions are LOVE and LOVE alone. Hence, I never considered Sasuke trying to kill Naruto as something toxic or a bad thing.
Similarly,
I see a purest form of motherly, fatherly and brotherly love in Itachi which he has shown towards Sasuke all the time. Itachi’s motivation behind hurting Sasuke is just LOVE and PROTECTIVE INSTINCT. He simply doesn’t want Sasuke’s life to be in danger at any time, even after his death. Before his fated death, he put some powers in Sasuke and Naruto as a measure to protect Sasuke. Hence, I never considered Itachi’s actions as toxic even though it’s ruthless.
Yes, I agree it’s not something to justify but Itachi’s extreme love towards Sasuke overshadows all these minor incidents and in the end, all I can see is only Love.
