~ "Maharani Chaumet High Jewelry Necklace. Two Diamonds, symbols of purity and dazzling tokens of elegance, were carefully selected and matched by the Maison. Dressing the décolleté with their brilliance, these pair-cut stones recall Empress Joséphine’s taste for Jewels of eternal beauty. With its supple, asymmetric knot, this necklace evokes the human bond, along with an assured sense of elegance, lightness and subtlety. Inspired by the négligé necklace that were highly fashionable during the Belle Époque, it also revisits a spectacular piece created by Chaumet in 1913 for the Maharajah of Indore." ~

One of Brock Forsblom’s friends introduces him thus: “This is Brock. He went to Yale and then he became a decorator.” Well, there are plenty of Ivy League graduates among decorators, so check out his fabulous New York City apt. in the West Village that he shares with his partner Jeremy.

In the dining area, a 1930s Art Deco cabinet displays a mix of favorite art and objects including (from left) Chinese scholar root, a Peruvian vessel, a Congolese mask and a Lalique vase.

A pedestal from the flea market stands next to the dining room hand painted niche.

Peeking into the living room.
Tumblr media
Brock sectioned off the living room from the dining area with a Fauve-style curtain/room divider. The wool-covered 1930s Danish chair was purchased at  auction.
Tumblr media
The room takes on a full-on maximalist approach to decorating with a 1940s French oak sofa covered in pink boiled wool and placed near an African stool that Brock recovered in copper foil.
Tumblr media
The wall mural was inspired by Boutet de Monvel’s 1934 portrait of the Maharajah of Indore. (Whoever the hell that is.)
Tumblr media
A daybed is positioned in front of the living room windows.
Tumblr media
In the living room a pair of 1950s bentwood chairs were refinished and upholstered in silk tiger velvet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arranged on top of a chunky oak console are (from left) a light sculpture, corrugated paper shapes and a standing mobile.

A close-up of the hand painted curtains. French dining chairs were bought at auction; the contrasting gold fabric on the seat backs is the reverse side of a vintage fabric from Paris. The chairs surround a marble table designed by Brock

A pair of 1930s floor lamps from auction flanks a headboard that Brock had reupholstered in fabric from Mood.

Tweedledum and Tweedledee standing on top of a column in the bedroom window.
Tumblr media
The wall and ceiling of the bathroom were painted by designer Ross Alexander based on a giant skirt that Keith Haring did for singer Grace Jones.
Tumblr media
In the kitchen Brock maximized extra storage space by covering the area above the cabinets with custom-made twist fringe. Great idea to hide stuff.
Tumblr media
The walls and ceiling of Brock and Jeremy’s office/library are painted 2 different greens.  Shelving overflows with novels and books on art and design.
Tumblr media
A painting by artist Dorothy Eaton, “Sassy Boys!’ 1956, hangs in a corner of the library.

Man Ray, La maharani d’Indore en tenue de soirée, vers 1927-1930
Maharajah of Indore who gives free rein to his taste for artistic and decorative avant-garde by creating, in India, a unique modern universe. A visionary personality in the European cultural milieu of the 1920s and 1930s, he commissioned the very first modernist construction in his country: the Manik Bagh Palace (1930-1933), testimony to the effervescence of the artistic scene of the time.

The Patiala diamond necklace with a portrait of The Maharajah of Indore behind by Boutet de Monvel. The necklace has had a somewhat chequered history. It was created in 1928 for Sir Bhupinda Singh, Maharajah of Patiala by Carter, using the largest diamonds in his treasury, including the golden yellow “Victoria” or “De Beers” diamond. After India became a republic the necklace disappeared. It was then rediscovered in London by Hans Nadelhoffer of Cartier in 1998, but in a very sorry state, having been stripped of it’s principal and remaining large stones. It was in a number of pieces and the dealer who owned it was going to break up the remaining parts for lose stones. Cartier purchased the parts and set about restoring it to its former glory, replacing the large stones with identically cut cubic zirconia. It is truly spectacular, and hangs nearly 11 inches from the top central stone to the bottom drop. Thank goodness it was saved! 💎💎🎥 by @andrewrtprince ❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌#diamond #diamondnecklace #masterpieces #india #love #art #jewelryart #iwant #history #treasure #royaljewellery #royal #cartier #maharaja #patiala #artdeco #artdecojewelery #debeers #spectacular https://www.instagram.com/p/B0cHlNzFnKJ/?igshid=13b7qx4g5sh8h
