Ram pushed your shoulder down in a haste, indicating you to kneel as he unbuckled his pants. All the time, the fingers he used on you were untouched. A stick. Confusion and terror dawned on your body language- what was the stick for? You saw Ram tightly knot the ends of the stick with two handkerchiefs, leaving long ends of the handkerchiefs sticking out. Pulling on them, he was content that the cloth won't slide out. Without even looking at you, he picked you up and threw you on the bed, again. Before you could regain your balance, Ram was grabbing your feet and tying the loose ends of the cloth with them. What was he planning? By the time he was done, you were sprawled in front of him, legs wide, unable to move them because there was a stick tied between them. You gaped at the realisation. He then tied your hands together, on your back.

Ram stood in front of you as you laid on the bed, unable to move. He held the stick in his hands on the bed, raising it, along with your feet. Ripped muscles and buff chest, you have started to feel the flow of potion too. You couldn't even fathom what was happening when he flipped the stick 180 degree, and you landed on the bed on your stomach. A groan left your lips, your open hair stuck to your face. You couldn't even move your hands to fix them. The flip did give a bit of shock, but it might as well have made you wet. You weren't expecting such inventions from Ram right now.

THE BEACH TRIANGLE

Everyone loves beaches and heading towards the water bodies. Be it summer, winter or rainy, the beaches everywhere in the world are always crowded and well equipped to handle large numbers.  

As for me, the endless horizon widens my perspective making me aware of the infinite solutions to a situation at hand. The vast seashore makes my heart dance in glee.

Having travelled to many cities gave me access to visit varied coasts and lakes. The Daman and Diu beaches in Gujarat, Fort Kochi beach at Vasco da Gama square in Kerala’s Kochi, Ukkadam lake in Coimbatore, Ooty lake, Fateh sagar lake in Rajasthan’s Udaipur and the Panchmarhi lake, The lakes in Bhopal, Bee falls in Madhya Pradesh are great places to visit. Fortunate to have this experience in my kitty and eager for more.

THE KONKAN COAST

The coast of Maharashtra also known as the konkan coast includes Maharashtra, Goa and some parts of Karnataka. This coast is a gem in the vast treasure chest of India.  Several years ago, we had visited the Kashid beach but we couldn’t explore the beach triangle of Shrivardhan, Diveagar and Harihareshwar in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.

STAY IN SHRIVARDHAN

So… it was time to pack the bags and hit the coast in Raigad. A weekend trip means everything has to be hurried up. From a 3:30 am wake up to a 4:45 am exit from home, the rush to reach Shrivardhan was there so that we could have an entire day to explore the places nearby. Soon, my driver Nilesh had the car heading towards the city exit to reach Shrivardhan well in time.

With a pretty stay in a 3-star resort, we checked in early. The entire day was planned such that the beach triangle in this area could be covered well. However, the time slot of 1 pm to 4 pm wouldn’t be utilised due to the high temperatures outside. But we decided to go for lunch at that hour.

LUNCH TIMES IN SHRIVARDHAN

Shrivardhan is home to many homestays. With a pre booking, one can avail lunch at these homestays and relish the coastal treats that it offers. We decided to head to Tavsalkar’s for lunch. Tavsalkar’s is one of the renowned home stays with great options for meal. A veg and non-veg meal later, we realised the simple meal that we had just had was tastier than any in a 5 star in Mumbai. The farm fresh ingredients added taste and health and the simple taste was a memory to be cherished. A tour of their small homestay left us happy and we decide to return to the resort.

HEADING TO DIVEAGAR

As the sun began to shed its heat and warmth, we headed out to Diveagar. The sea route from Shrivardhan to Diveagar is the most scenic route we have ever driven on. A stretch of 20 kms running parallel to divine waters and plantations is a sight to behold. Just looking at the shining waters was akin to finding Gods. The sight was mesmerizing and we couldn’t take off our eyes from the coastline.

DIVEAGAR

Diveagar is a small village nestled between Shrivardhan and Harihareshwar. Its famous for the beach and coconut and betel nut plantations. There are “wadis”(plantations) owned by locals where one can catch up with some rest before exploring the place.

ON reaching Diveagar, we visited the Suvarna Ganesh Mandir where one can find a golden idol of Lord Ganesha. From here we went to the Diveagar beach.

Now the beach here was full of people and water sports activity could be undertaken. We took a stroll along the shores and captured great moments to relish later. The liveliness on the beach was rubbed onto each other and  everyone on the beach was having great fun.

With our feets full of Diveagar sands, we were heading back to Shrivardhan. The Shrivardhan beach was just 1 km of our stay and we decided to go there in the morning.

HARIHARESHWAR

DAY 2 and we were required to check out today and the Harihareshwar trip needed to be done today itself. So the clock hit 6 and we were already out for Harihareshwar. We visited the kaalbhairav temple and the Harihareshwar Beach. Though one could do with a full day at Harihareshwar, we did not have a day to spare since we were required to check out on time due to a felicitation ceremony at Kharghar and roadblocks were expected to be in place.

So we stepped back to Shrivardhan and headed to the last place on our itinerary Shrivardhan beach. We had been told that Dolphins are sighted at the Shrivardhan beach and we could spot them if lucky. Unfortunately we couldn’t as the sun was up by now and the warm waters at the top wouldn’t be suitable to their sighting. It was disappointing, nevertheless this pending circuit was completed and the memory reel is still fresh with beautiful moments from here.

The city which proudly exhibits Maharana Pratap or the city with a magnificent history or the city with lakes, isn't it? I would say a city that welcomed me with mountains and took me to lakes where the lakes were surrounded by walls of the palace and the lakes with monuments in the mid of the serenity and with everything around, I went back in history all the way long. It felt different from all the other days. Watching the sun setting by lake side and the night lights reflecting themselves in the waters was mesmerizing in its own ways. My day ended well with a beautiful evening. Tired of last night at airport and full day in the city, I slept right away as Chittorgarh was on the list for the coming day. Chittorgarh (Day 2) My buddy woke me up at 6 a.m. in the morning and I cherished myself in yellow bandhani. With all the Rajasthani songs in the car and the chats with our driver bhaiya, we reached Chittorgarh fort. While getting closer to the fort, it looked humongous and beautiful. It looked royal. When I finally got in and started listening to the stories of the kingdom of Mewar rightly told by our guide, I realized the world has always been a harsh place to live in and yet beautiful enough to forget its harshness. The temple of St. Meera Bai - Devoted to Lord Krishna, she was a queen, a poetess and most importantly, a devotee. Her stories mesmerized me while walking inside the temple she used to pray to the Lord - queen who left the kingdom and mysteriously disappeared somewhere in the Lord's world. Sleeping Monkeys - Right outside the temple where St. Meerabai used to pray to Lord Krishna, I spotted a group of monkeys and, surprisingly, all of them were asleep in the sunny day. The magnificent fort walls of VII century A.D. - there are no words to describe it, it was my favorite part of the entire trip and simply sitting on the top watching them is all one needs to experience the beautiful feels of Chittor. Johar - the ritual performed by thousands of ladies and queens of centuries - listening to these stories, the dark historical side I felt and, something inside of me wept a bit when the cruel war was perceived. Padmini palace - in the mid of the pond blooming with lotuses, the queen Padmini stayed once whose mere reflection won the heart of the Mughal Emperor which let to the war and took lives of many including her own. Beauty, indeed, took lived. She is gone and her story has lived on. Vijay Stambh - this beautiful victory monument was once accessible to be climbed till the top but nowadays, one is not allowed to climb up. I, sadly, missed the city view from here :( but never the less it was fascinating to look at the beautiful architecture. Sitaphal Sarees - This area boasts of the custard apple plantations and the fabric made out of custard apple seeds. Surprisingly, it was a delightful experience interacting with the local artisans and their works. One of the lady workers who hailed from Kota called me 'Mantri Bai' and gave her blessings to me and such small moments were priceless, indeed. After all of it, I pleasantly had dal bati churma with gatte ki sabji at the foot of the fort and while getting inside the car to leave from there, I smiled at the fort and waved a bye. Watching the sunset from the car and listening to the Rajwadi songs, I captured the memories in my heart. From the stories told by our driver bhaiya, I captured the stories in the lives of people living there and I realized that more or less, we all are on the same page and choosing love over practicality is the only way one can live and make it till the end.

Fateh Sagar (Day 2) On reaching back to Udaipur from Chittorgarh, I halted at Fateh Sagar lake to grab a cup of coffee and checked a local shop to collect more memories for family. The moon accompanied me all the way.

Jodhpur's Mehrangarh (Day 3) On reaching Jodhpur early in the morning, I embarked on the trail embracing the tradition of Indian attire. Soothing musical entrance at Jawant Thada and Mehrangarh fort welcomes everyone as they truly say 'Padharo Mhare Des'. Men in colorful turbans and women in Rajputi poshak beautifully depicted their culture, traditions and simplicity. On seeing the musical instruments and listening to the folklores, winds of Jodhpur played along as I watched the city blues from the temple of Goddess Chamunda at the top.

Jaisalmer's Sand Dunes (Day 4) The smiles dazzled in the sand dunes of Jaisalmer with the moon, the cultural program and the adventures in the dessert especially when my camel started running for a while and the desert safari. I celebrated my time by grooving with the artists on the tunes of 'Ghoomar' knowing it is the last day of my trip. I returned back with smiles on my face while waving the desert a bye. Believe it or not but our next bus trip made up for our first bus. We were sitting in luxury seating with AC, the bus made a stop past a toilet AND it arrived on time. Unbelievable!

Udaipur is absolutely stunning and it felt like an Indian Bali (the perfect place to relax). We checked into our accommodation and spent the afternoon wandering the beautiful little streets which cars cannot access as the roads are too narrow. We stumbled across a Tailor - his name is Prateek and he happened to make a suit for Jay last time he was in India. I couldn’t believe he still remembered Jay and before long, I was conned into getting a suit made for myself in a forest green linen. There are some days that I love ‘India time’ and other days I don’t, but today was one of those days and we spent a while perusing the store, sharing memories of our trip and enjoying cups of masala chai. We managed to find some western food in Udaipur just across the road from the suit shop - Mavi. It became our regular for breakfast (I can’t tell you how much I’ve been craving fresh fruit and cereal). On top of that, they even made coffee…and it was actually good! It’s a sister and brother that own the cafe with a beautiful little puppy called Peanut. He loved to lie underneath our table on the cool tiles while we were having breakfast.

We spent the next couple days wandering the streets of Udaipur and visited the city palace as well as a hike up to one of the temples. There are some beautiful views of the lake and it was so nice to be out of the heat for a little bit (32 is very different to 39). Other than that, we would spend our mornings reading and drawing which was so lovely. We found this absolutely incredible restaurant called the Lake Shore (which we couldn’t help but continue to order the same every day) - chicken Biryani, garlic naan, paneer tikka and Bindi Masala (okra). It was peaceful here - a very different feel to the rest of India.

On our last day, we got caught in a thunderstorm. We were so tired and had taken a break at a local restaurant for a cup of tea before the rain seriously hit hard. The restaurant kitchen had flooded by the time we decided it would be best to make a run for it back to the hostel. We were soaked to the core and just before hitting our hostel, the water was covering the entire road around 30cm deep. We took refuge in a little barber shop on the side and managed to hail down a Tuk-Tuk but we made it back safely!

We visited this little cafe on our last night before catching a sleeper train. This was our favourite masala tea in the whole of India (so so good). The train left at 10:30pm and got into Agra around the same time the next day. I absolutely loved it. We were in class 3A which meant that there were 3 beds (bunks) on either side of a cabin (600 rupees each - around $12). We were both on the top bed opposite each other. It was certainly a bit awkward having to sleep next to your stuff but I was asleep by midnight and slept all the way through until 9:30am the next day (way better than being on a plane in my opinion).
