Hi! I just saw your post about Steve being abandoned by the narrative and I found it so interesting, but I have a question and a wonder on your thoughts.

First, how was Steve supposed to die? I knew he was suppose to die in s1 initially, but I assumed it was at the hand of the demogorgan, but if Lonnie helped Jonathan and Nancy, ig he wasn't there. Was he supposed to die in the pool instead of barb, and she didn't exist in the og script? But that feels a lil too early considering other things hadn't happened yet, so how did he die?

Also, I was thinking about whta you said in regards to Steve getting tortured has an almost light hearted tone to it, and im wondering what you think may have contributed to that tone? He's getting beat up, he's begging for his life, the general is intimidating, what about the scene somehow makes it feel less scary than other scenes? Part of me wants to sya the lighting, since it's in a well lit sterile room, but even in those lab scenes with El in the beginning, it was still scary. Idk what do u think?

so the funny thing is that the duffers apparently don’t even remember how they were going to kill steve, just that he was gonna die and lonnie would take his place during the demogorgon fight before joe keery charmed them too hard and they changed their minds

(this was apparently said during netflix geeked prior to s2 according to this rotten tomatoes article)

as for the torture scene, i just think they added way too much like…joking around? his whole little spiel about the uss butterscotch and the way he stops to be like “or maybe it’s gelato where you come from 🤣” and the fake out when the guards laugh, it’s all very goofy and kinda going in the direction of a comedic scene until they knock him out and then you’re like holy fuck. idk if the duffers intended that, maybe they thought it would be like a way to subvert audiences expectations and kinda sucker punch us the same way steve gets sucker punched, but it just creates a weird….vibe. there’s also the bit where he and robin are giggling and refusing to answer and when they suddenly start pulling on steve’s nail with pliers it just becomes insanely dark insanely fast, to the degree where i saw a gifset of that scene recently and i thought like wow that last gif (plier fingernail bit) looks like it belongs to a different gifset just from how quickly the tone changes. in scenes where el is getting tortured or hopper is getting tortured it’s treated So Seriously there’s absolutely zero comedy there are zero jokes or bits written in, which makes sense! it’s torture! but for steve i really think they struggle to write him in any mode but comedic and it just strikes a weird tone

lee taeyong was the resident bad boy in the area

sometimes skips class because he doesn’t want to be there, picks fights every now and then, even tags walls with his name because he has nothing to be afraid of

though he makes sure not to make a mess most of the time because he doesn’t like that and feels kind of guilty (only kind of)

most people see him as aloof and/or intimidating and don’t try to interact with him at all costs

sometimes the people that do for the first time end up getting shut down by short responses, he leaves saying he has somewhere to go or someone to see, or he sounds really monotone/uninterested and the other person gets kinda uncomfortable

always hanging around his friends instead of playing it lone wolf style

even if some of them aren’t like him and are the social butterflies or super popular and friendly kids he makes sure they’re well and safe

once got into a fist fight with someone because they made a snide remark about one of the boys and he would have been fine if it was him, since he doesn’t really care

but one of the boys? his boys? nuh uh, they had it coming

not really rough and rowdy all the time but can definitely handle himself

usually he talks the other person down if they’re picking a fight with blunt words, and on the rare occasion he might have to knock them down

doesn’t usually crack a smile but when he’s with the rest of nct he does it quite frequently and one has to wonder how a rough looking boy can look so........... soft

and that’s really up until he met you

he never really noticed many people in his classes

sure, he knew faces and stuff but names never really seemed to stick

the occasional john doe or jane doe would pop up in his head and he’d be like oh yeah i know them

but otherwise he’s just conscious of who’s around him but not really who

some kids he keeps tabs on because they’re the more physical of the troublemakers and people he chooses to steer clear from because they give him the wrong vibe

but some of them get the vibe that he thinks he’s better than them or just looks down on them

which leads to a whole bunch of drama and more than a few times taeyong has had to patch himself up in secret so the school won’t find out or his friends and family

the last thing he wants to do is get anyone involved in this mess and he really hates it

the others never complain about being beaten up by him because they always managed to land a few fits but it also hurts their pride to admit that he’s tougher than them

used to completely avoid conflict with them but they kept persisting and cornered him and wow did he show them

regardless he hates having to physically fight people and keep it to himself

i can see him knowing how to fight in close quarters and knowing how to box, or even kickbox

but (kick)boxer!taeyong is for a different time, hm? ;)

but he knows that using it for...... this is p bad and it just makes him more frustrated which ends up being shown most of the time

most people often play it as that’s how he is normally

and most of his friends see it as his defense mechanism to not communicating with them or that’s just his personality with strangers

he loves this and hates it

because people won’t be involved with his problems......... but they’re not involved with his problems and he has to bury it all inside

usually this causes him a lot of stress and to relieve his stress he likes to be by himself and wander and roam and just think

most often this is the reason why he skips class

the most recent scuffle left his knuckles kind of scratched up, and he knew if he told his coaches or his friends then they’d find out about him fighting

so he still trains and keeps scratching up his knuckles

but this enough stresses him out because there’s a chance they won’t heal soon if he keeps this up and if someone notices, because it’s not that hard.............

so he takes a walk

he’s on school grounds still because his friends try to convince him to keep attending school and just work, because they know he can probably graduate as valedictorian if he wanted

but they don’t want to lose him and see him fall

as he’s walking through the halls and thinking about his friends and his fiasco, he sees one of the guys who always picks a fight with him

he starts to turn around because right now the last thing on his mind is getting into trouble when he is trying to get his mind off it

but as his luck would have it, trouble always seems to find him one way or another

the guy calls out his name and is pretty mad about getting a black eye since their last fight and the only thing taeyong got was another winning fight

taeyong sighs because hhhhh there’s no running away from this guy

once taeyong turns around he sees the guy is actually a lot closer than he thought and is rearing up to punch

but it never comes

in front of him there’s a girl standing there with her body recoiled and flinched, but she stands in the way regardless

when she sees that the punch never landed on either of them she unfolds completely and gets all up in his face saying

‘i don’t know if you have any beef with him or something, but do it after school. i will not stand by and watch you attempt to pummel this guy like you want to.’

both guys are shocked because a small girl? you? is yelling at him? notorious troublemaker x and not only that you managed to weasel your way in between the two without them realizing until just in time???

and......... you were defending taeyong? also notorious troublemaker???

taeyong is about to smirk because he gets his way again but you turn on your heel and start pointing fingers into his chest

‘and you. don’t tell me that you meant to get hit just to use the excuse that he started the fight, hm?’

taeyong never wants to admit but he finds that kind of........ kind of hot

plus this is the first time that someone he didn’t know ever stood up to him without cowering before him

to be honest, you knew who he was but never really............ cared

he was just a guy and this was just how he was no biggie

as you finish this out and the two get over their initial shock of someone telling them off the other guy turns red and is like

‘um i have business to attend and i don’t need some random girl to tell me what to do’ he says and he jabs a finger at you

you’re not having it at this point and are like ‘go take a walk’

‘go take a hike’ and he tries to shove you past and get to taeyong

but the second you see his hand coming up for a rough maneuver, you smack his arm out of the way and deliver a killer hook to the jaw with your other hand

it’s not enough to knock him out, but it’s enough to send the dude to the ground and enough to daze 

the guy is quickly about to get up and taeyong shields you but is also ready to run if he sees the opening

quickly, when the guy glares at you and starts moving to get up, taeyong grabs you and starts sprinting and is just like gogoggogogo dunno where but go fAST

so you’re running and looking for something while the guy is just rounding the corner

so you dash into the bathroom and you can hear him running fast and he sounds mad but you’re glad he didn’t know you ran in there

‘yeah, i’m glad too’

you feel a hand over your mouth and you see taeyong shushing you quietly and you’re just like

he followed you into the girl’s bathroom nice

and you’re just staring at him like whTA RU DOING IN HERE????

but you whisper this because you know the guy is probably gonna circle back any minute

and taeyong is like r u blIND I HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO GO

against your better judgement, you just........ let him crouch near the sinks with you and sit there in silence

taeyong keeps taking glances at you while you refuse to look at him

and he sees that it’s not because you think he’s scary

you’re just awkward that there’s a guy in the girls bathroom and he’s looking directly at you and ooh that stray toilet paper on the ground is interesting and less awkward oooh

taeyong eventually gets bored and is like........ ehh this isn’t that bad

he starts shifting around for fun and looks kind of dorky and is he reciting the alphabet in a rap???

you’re about to let out a huge snort when taeyong gets to the end of the rap and taeyong is like i’ve just confirmed i found a new friend

‘it smells bad in here’

‘what did you think it’d smell like, genius???’

taeyong shrugs but he has a small smile and is like ‘idk i thought all girls would maintain the bathroom better than the guys do’

you snort and cover your mouth quickly when you hear footsteps outside, but when they pass you just go ‘pffft no i’m p sure the farthest stall over there hasn’t been flushed’

taeyong quietly sighs and starts waving the air under his nose

‘i wanna leave’

this prompts the both of you to slowly peek out of the door and you both look opposite ends of the hall to see if anybody is around

because the last thing you guys need is to be caught by a teacher, the guy you were running from, or some random passerby who’d get the wrong idea

as you’re peeking out you see the guy standing there, huffing and typing rapidly on his phone

his back is turned to you and it doesn’t seem like he’ll be moving for a while, so you get taeyong’s attention and he turns and sees what you’re looking at and is like !!!???................ >:))))

and the both of you slowly sink back into the bathroom and i swear it’s almost like it came out of a cartoon afkljsg

but taeyong is heading into one of the stalls and you can hear the sound of him taking a bunch of toilet paper out and he just keeps going and going and then rips it off and hands you a bunch and is like

‘soak that pls, make sure it gets condensed into a ball’

you just listen to taeyong while he gets more and you’re thinking to yourself, great we’re gonna be the reason why nobody has any toilet paper this school is gonna tumblr down thanks to soggy toilet paper balls

he comes over with two more giant wads of toilet paper and starts making his own soggy paper ball while you put the other one on the sink and just do the third

you guys have three sopping toilet paper wads and it’s such a strange sight and you’re just going along with it tbh and taeyong is just like :)))) are you ready?

that glint in his eye means nothing but trouble and you know you shouldn’t be involved in this mess

but you just sigh and whisper under your breath that this dude tried to punch the wrong girl

taeyong smirks and is like i hope your aim is as killer as your hook

and lo and behold you manage to hit the guy square in the back with a glob of toilet paper and it makes the harshest smacking sound that even taeyong winces but he laughs and pushes you out of the bathroom so he can throw his

and just in time with the guy turning around he gets a glob to the face and then another to the stomach

that’s when you and taeyong run off again and the guy is left behind trying to get water and shredding toilet paper remains out of his eyes and clothes

while you’re giggling and running and even jumping over a table when you two cut into the cafeteria, taeyong is watching you silently while running behind you

you glance back to see if the guy is following you and when taeyong sees your smile......... he’s just................. so drawn in

‘where have you been all my life?’ taeyong asks when you two camp out in an empty classroom for a while

‘english class. which i’m probably going to be in so much trouble for when i get back’

‘wait................ english class??? in room 127?’

you’re just like uhuh you’d know if you actually showed up from time to time

and after meeting you, taeyong does just that

he doesn’t interact much with you anymore but he steals glances at you and pays full attention whenever you’re talking in class

eventually you start noticing that he only actually fully attends his english class and is constantly staring at you

so you just walk up to him one day and are like ‘go to class’

taeyong pulls a coolio (or tries to) and just responds with ‘go out with me’

you don’t actually think he’s serious until the next day you find him waiting at your locker ready to walk you to first period

it’s kind of cute the way he clings to you the walk there because he’s trying to make sure everyone sees this and it’s a silent message for them to back off and not mess with you

before he walks away once you step foot into the classroom you crab his collar and go ‘you better be in class’

taeyong just holds his hands up and is like fine but you’ll owe me a kiss

taeyong somehow always manages to show up on time and walk you to your next class, even taking over your seatmate’s desk if he shares the class with you

and at lunch he introduces everyone to you and some of the guys say hello and he’s like what how do you know her

to which you just respond with a ‘if you went to class you would have known’ and flick his forehead and everyone is ready to flinch because not even some of them can do that

but taeyong just rolls his eyes at your sass and softly (bc this precious is like i must never harm) pinches your cheek in return

at the end of the day taeyong is there at your locker again and the first thing he says is

‘you owe me a kiss’

and you manage to flag down two of his pals and ask if he really was in class and they go oh!! yeaH! FOR ONCE!!!!

taeyong is just smugly smiling at you 

so you lean in slowly and taeyong is like oh? this is really happening?

and peck him on the cheek

you walk away and just go, see you tomorrow, hun

and taeyong stares at you and is like oh my gosh my face feels so warm i didn’t think she’d..... she called me hun oh golly

the next day taeyong isn’t there at your locker, but when you open it up you find a single rose in there and a super cheesy message

along with a sticky note telling you not to tell anybody about this at all or else he’ll get you back

when you tease him about it he denies everything until you tell him you’ll give him an actual kiss if he does admit to it

which he quickly does and you just give him a better kiss on the cheek this time

taeyong watches you go back to doing whatever as if that were normal and just goes to himself......... yup she’s the one

as you get more used to being in a relationship with taeyong you notice all the little things he does for you

still walking you to classes and showing up at your locker to wait for you and even leaving little gifts in there

one time that one guy tried to pick a fight with you when you were talking with your friend and taeyong waltzes up and slings an arm around you shoulders and is like

‘heyyy i think you better knock it off. and after what happened last time, you probably should be more afraid of her than you are me. just a tip.’

the guy just walks away and taeyong proudly looks at you and is like aren’t i deserving of a kiss?

you give him another kiss on the cheek and every single time he’s a little disappointed but too flustered to actually whine about it

the first actual date he took you on he was the sweetest, most gentlemanly guy you’ve ever encountered

he also cleans up well holy smokes it wasn’t even that fancy of a place but he still wanted to look nice

a casual sweatshirt, jeans, sneakers, and a snapback and wow you were gone

even if you did bring a jacket he made sure to give you his just to see you wearing something of his

after that makes sure to leave a jacket of his in your locker ‘in case you get cold’ or ‘for emergencies’

your first actual for real not a fake kiss though??? probably the tenth date in when you realize that taeyong was being serious about dating you

because he took you out on a picnic on a spot that overlooked the city

and it was so calm and serene and the entire time you were looking at the view, taeyong was looking at you............

you turned to him to talk about something you saw and are taken aback by how intense his stare is

and taeyong just goes, ‘for making my heart skip a beat every time you take a breath.......... you owe me a kiss’

and seeing him smile when you got flustered over this kind of made your heart skip a beat?

he told you that you didn’t have to but before he could finish that sentence you cut him off by a sweetly short kiss to the lips and he turned red and buried his face in his hands

his friends all found out that he was taking this seriously when he randomly sat down one day and just went ‘do you know what love feels like?’

everyone screamed and thought you broke him

let you watch him practice kickboxing once and now you’re not allowed because all he did was show off and the coach was not pleased at all

‘please, i’m glad you got the punk to calm down some but now he’s not focusing on anything’

overall taeyong is glad you didn’t judge him like everyone else and wants to protect you as much as possible even if you have a killer hook that honestly kind of scares him

i mean. as we all know. they are literally goals and everyone else should learn from them. such sweet hearts who really value each other and show their appreciation and care. they look out for each other and actually fucking communicate. these two are just so great and so pure?? i love them??? 

and now a big ass jump way way way way down bc these two ^^ are honestly the only healthy ones

bailey / quinten 

honestly they’re partly this high bc i dont know enough about them to see any faults yet rip,,, obviously quinten is manipulative and has self esteem issues. but bailey is kinda,,, too dumb to really be affected by any of the negative things that might come from quinten?? hes too naive and happy go lucky to notice hes just out there having a good time showering quinten with love and affection 

levi / touma

i’ve placed them a bit higher because while yeah, its not great,,, and its not really healthy, its still not exactly harmful?? like i dont feel like either of them is really actively hurting the other person. i mean levi is helping touma (/forcing him) to come to terms with himself and his sexuality. mind you levi is a very manipulative person and thats by no means healthy, and touma is a push over and lets him get away with waaaaaay too much. they need to communicate better as well instead of levi saying “lets do this/i want this etc” and touma going along with it. i also feel like levi doesnt value touma as much as he should (yet, big yet tho) bc he doesnt realize how real his feelings are. but like i said these two arent really hurting each other ?? so ?? 

indigo / valentine 

i mean yIkes yeah poor val is definitely carrying this team. indy is extremely destructive and has so many fucking issues. he really really struggles to let people in and does everything he can to push them away. the only reason why they’re even slightly okay is because val is so patient. im putting them under tou and levi though because the way indy treats val sometimes is pretty bad. indy can be genuinely harmful, he can say mean things and do things he knows will hurt val on purpose to push him away, i wouldn’t say he does this often though, only at times when hes feeling really bad and its almost like hes testing val?? that being said even normally indy is a pretty abrasive person, he swears and insults people a lot just in everyday conversation, when hes like that hes not intending to hurt val and i dont think he does so that okayish i guess but still not great. val puts up with way more shit than he should and its rlly only because he has such thick skin and patience that they word and dont spiral into proper fights and even more toxic behavior. but when indy is good, ina  good mood and feeling good he can be softer and more affectionate, he can try to show val in very very small ways that he does appreciate him. so thats why they’re a bit higher. 

luke / everett

listen they’re pretty close but i’m putting them below. mostly because of luke tbh like i’d say 65% luke 35% ev. honestly these guys indy/val and tou/lev are all pretty close. but anyway. these two are one of the pairs that really truly care so fucking deeply for each other. like luke loves ev, with or without any romantic feelings he loves ev so fucking much. and they obviously care for each other and appreciate each other, they do shit for each other. when they’re good they’re very good and if they were always good i’d put them a lot higher bc of the really strong bond they have with each other. buuuuuuut when its bad it gets real bad. and i think these two can be very harmful and toxic when it gets bad. on ev’s part it’d obviously just be his explosive temper, luke tries hard not to lose his temper and tries to calm the situations down whether hes in the right or the wrong, he has better control of his emotions (/better at ignoring them) than ev, but ev is much quicker to lose his cool and lose it for good, though he is definitely getting better at that. on luke’s part,,, yikes. when they fight and when they get pushed to the point of really properly fighting luke says some mean ass shit,. eg when he called ev a whore. its when lukes loses his tightly kept control over his emotions that a lot of his passive aggressive, judgmental shit from his upbringing comes out, bc he consciously works to keep that part of him down normally, but yeah it comes out when he gets real mad and he can be a real dick. and even when they’re not fighting luke is still pretty passive aggressive and to some degree unconsciously looks down on/did look down on ev. which is not nice

naoki / luciel 

yeah this is bc of luciel for sure,,, they’ll be up there when they get past his creepy ass behavior bc i think they have very good potential to have really good communication like adonis and mitsuki. but for now they belong down here bc luciel worships naoki in a very unhealthy way, and hes a fkin creeper 

dante / chikara 

im gonna put them second from last only because i dont think they are even at their prime of being toxic yet,, like i think it’ll get worse from here. bc right now i dont think either cares enough for it to be as bad as it can get. once it does then yikes,,, a lot of issues. 

andrew / daiki

im putting then right down here on the bottom because right now as it stands their relationship isnt benefiting either of them, its not making either of them better people and honestly rn its making them worse?? in the sense that, andrew is enabling and reinforcing daiki’s bad behavior, hes a pushover obviously and is letting daiki do as he pleases and walk all over him as he pleases regardless of how it makes andy feel. as well as that its making andrew feel worse about himself. before meeting daiki he was?? pretty content ig he didnt think that great of himself or anything but yknow. but now he feels like a plaything for daiki, he doesnt feel like daiki actually loves or likes him, he thinks daiki is just using him for fun until hes done with him. hes basically belittling himself to being nothing but a cocksleeve for daiki,,, and ofc that makes andrew feel worse abt himself. he feels like shit bc he likes daiki a lot but doesnt think daiki likes him back and he feels like shit for not putting a stop to it or making a stand kinda thing. buuuut yknow eventually he will and they’ll start getting better. idk if they will ever be near the top up there with adonis and mitsuki but they’ll at least be soooo much higher with time
