This has been a week where so many things have already happened and were completely out of my control. Nothing I could do would change anything. I just had to accept it. This alone made my passion for #makingstrides even stronger. I don’t want to accept how many people will be diagnosed, or will be affected by breast cancer. Hello October and the beginning of breast cancer awareness month. You may not know but Avon is the first National Presenting Sponsor for the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer to fight this deadly disease. Fundraising has been different this year but the need is still there. In 2020 about 279,100 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed. Nationwide 41,760 women are expected to die from breast cancer this year. Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women excluding skin cancer and second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in women. Yes I will continue to fight until someday no one is affected by breast cancer. It was a great evening connecting with others passionate about making strides against breast cancer at the annual Making Strides Kickoff Party. We have come so far and there was much to celebrate with 2018 accomplishments. That said there is much yet to accomplish. Last year to see my son (#truegent in the middle) and his friends helping us make a difference in the #avonmakingstrides walk was emotional. The next generation cares and wants to help. They want awareness and a cure like the rest of us. All of them know or have had someone affected by breast cancer. For one it was his mother.
