Watching Witt fret over Lea was as endearing as it was heartbreaking. He shouldn’t be this nervous. At least, not anymore. He should have been there with them from the start; he should know the answers to his questions. It wasn’t his fault that he didn’t, nor was it Mallory’s, and they really weren’t trying to bring attention to the unfairness of the situation…but it was unavoidable at times like these.

“She’s not allergic to anything, no. At least, not that I’m aware of yet.” Mallory gave him an awkward little laugh. They could talk about her anxiety over introducing Lea to certain things (not just food) at a later point. They had so much time ahead of them, it was hard not to be giddy at the thought.

“She absolutely hates pumpkins and sweet potatoes, though. It doesn’t make her sick, but she’s taken to throwing things she doesn’t like.” Mal smirked, shrugging as if to say ‘who knows’. “Just to spare you and your walls a bit of heartache in advance, because trust me, I’ve tried to get her to like them. She doesn’t. She even gets a little pissy at me for trying.”

The idea of leaving her alone, even if only for a few hours, was nerve wracking. She never had the luxury of hiring a babysitter before and her parents never considered themselves one. Even when they gave Mal off time, it wasn’t without conditions. So, yeah, this was weird for her.

“She really likes most fruit, though. And pancakes. She would probably eat that for every meal if I let her…” Mal laughed nervously. She wrung her hands together, hoping she didn’t look as anxious as she felt. “Just don’t spoil her too much. I need her to be happy to see me at the end of the day.” She teased. “I can already tell she’s gonna love it here.”

a full time thing

Mallory didn’t know what she was doing with her life.  One day she was still living with her parents full time, trying to find her own footing to move out with Lea.  The next, she’s alternating periods of days between their place and Witt’s, feeling the happiest she had in years.  For once in her life, she felt at peace.  Like this was where she was supposed to be.  Her and Witt weren’t dating again, nor was she sure if they were even close…but they were together and that was all she really needed.  She didn’t care the stipulations.  So when he asked if they could speak at some point today, hinting it was serious, she was understandably nervous. She didn’t know what was coming.  She watched him with uncertainty, frowning.  “Is everything alright?” She asked, when he took a seat beside her on the couch.  Lea played on the floor beside them.  “Should it conveniently be time for her nap?” She laughed nervously.
