Happy Groundhog Day!
and also, a little late,
Happy Jammie January!

Xander and friends are ready for a slumber party. Xander and Logan are wearing pajamas from Maplelea. Aidan’s pajamas are from American Girl.

I was browsing the Maplelea website and saw that they have a new Indigenous Outfit. It's designed by a First Nations woman, Teresa Snow, and based on regalia belonging to her daughter, Canyon.
I think American Girl would do well to imitate this style of partnership.

Léonie Belanger-Leblanc is a dear little friend and a girl after my own heart. She understands the spirit of adventure. She's always ready to explore the unknown; to see what's around the riverbend, what's behind the mountaintop, and what's over the horizon. Her curiosity about the natural world is never fully satisfied, because there's always more to discover.... just beyond.

Léonie observes the world around her and listens to the stories it tells her. She's ever willing and excited to learn more.

I don't live in Canada like Léonie, but I appreciate the love she has for Canadian culture and geography, just like all Maplelea girls do. And I'm glad Maplelea exists as a counterpart to American Girl. Often it seems that American culture dominates every aspect of life even outside of the United States, so it's good to know that Canadian kids have dolls and toys to reflect their own lives and cultural experiences.

I've explored this particular canyon many times before, but it changes so much through the seasons that there's always something new and unexpected to see. In winter it's often snowy and the creek is icy. In spring it's muddy and the trees are turning green. In early summer it's shady and lush, and in late summer the creek is full of monsoon rain. In autumn the oaks and willows show beautiful colors.
It was especially fun to see it through Léonie's eyes. For children, ordinary things are new and exciting.

When Léonie gets bundled up into her warmest clothes, nothing can stop her from an adventure. The snow is perfect for snowshoeing, and she has me check the ice to make sure it was safe to be on it. She usually prefers to play hockey when the creek freezes, but today she's just happy to skate.

Léonie's outfit, like Léonie herself, is Maplelea brand. Her ice skates are American Girl and her snowshoes are Our Generation.

Snowdrift Sweatpants pattern

New pattern releasing on my Etsy shop on February 8th!!
I designed them for Maplelea dolls, but I'm really hoping they'll fit other brands too.
(And somehow, I don't have pictures of dolls in them yet, but Victoria has tried them on, and they fit spectacularly!)

Hi everybody I’ve posted a new video on my YouTube channel celebrating my @mapleleagirls doll Jenna‘s birthday. Please check it out it would mean a lot to me. Image Description a photo of a red haired doll wearing a white sweatshirt with Canadian Girl embroidered on it in red, a red and white mapleleaf patterned headband and a pair or grey leggings. The doll is holding a plated slice of birthday cake and there is a table next to her with a pink, purple and yellow two tier cake on a purple cake stand with a candle on top as well as another plated slice of cake with a fork and a napkin and a glass of lemonade. The text reads BC’s Doll Place: Happy Birthday Jenna 2025! (With Subtitles).

And she's exactly right to be proud! Maplelea can afford to be high quality and lower priced because the company isn't headed by a billionaire CEO who demands to be allowed to hoard more money year after year. The fact that she's unwilling to compromise all of those lovely little details is admirable.

The shade in the final paragraph here! NGL I love jt.
“Even with these price increases, if you compare our prices to those for dolls or outfits you would buy in American dollars, our prices are still lower. For example, $125CDN for a doll is about $92US, far below our major competitor. And, Maplelea dolls come with a detailed starter outfit rather than a t-shirt dress, shoes that are not moulded plastic, and a keepsake box rather than a disposable one.”
Maplelea clothes are so beautiful and detailed, made well, and have real thought and heart put into them.

I've always wanted American Girl to add another Indigenous doll to their lineup, whether present day or highlighting another historical period. We have the thoroughly researched and consulted Kaya from the Nez Perce tribe who I love dearly, but it would be really cool to have another character join her in the lineup representing another Tribe with its own history and culture.
While that unfortunately still hasn't happened, I was thrilled when I learned about Maplelea's Saila Qilavvaq doll! She lives in Iqaluit, Nunavut, speaks English and Inuktitut, and shares her Inuit heritage through her journal, which takes place in present day.
And now, I'm proud to say that she is officially joining my doll collection! Welcome, Saila!
We love to see beautiful Indigenous dolls, that's for sure. I can't wait to take more pics of her and learn more about Inuit culture. ❤️

Indigenous Canadian dolls 🧡
Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, also known as orange shirt day, we wear an orange shirt, typically with the slogan “Every Child Matters”, in remembrance and acknowledgement of what happened to Indigenous children in residential schools.
As a doll blog I feel like it is only fitting for me to highlight some amazing Indigenous Canadian artists and dolls on here!
Saila Qilavvaq from Maplelea Girls

Saila Qilavvaq is a Maplelea Girl doll who is from Iqaluit, Nunavut. She wants to be a fashion designer who brings an Inuit flair to her looks. Each Maplelea doll comes with a journal and Salia’s is the first to be written in English, French, and Inuktitut!

Along with the dolls, Maplelea Girls also makes fashion packs you can buy. Here we have the orange “Every Child Matters” shirt, Saila wearing a traditional Amauti coat, and Canyon’s Dress which was designed by Teresa Snow (the outfit is based on an outfit she made for her own daughter, Canyon)

Ribbon Skirt dolls by Tracy Boucher

These custom Ribbon Skirt dolls are meant to show women, girls, and two-spirit individuals their worth and bring attention to the MMIWG movement. Ribbon skirts are meant to be floor length and touch the ground to have connection to the Earth. Boucher further discusses the dolls and the meaning of the ribbon skirt in this interview.
No-Face dolls by Audrey “Bill” Wilson

Wilson is a Chippewas woman who based these dolls off an indigenous story of a girl who is too vain and so the Great Spirits take away her face. The story is meant to be a lesson to children about humility. More of this story can be found in this interview.
Whetung Ojibwa dolls

In the 1960s the Whetung family began crafting more to sell at their store (now the Whetung Ojibwa Centre, a museum with indigenous art to purchase). The doll in the blue dress is named Waboose Whetung and if you find her hidden around the Whetung Ojibwa Centre you can get $5 off your purchase. More information about the Whetung history can be found here.
#Maplelea girls are basically the Canadian version of American girl dolls I feel like that’s obvious but yeah#dollblr#doll collector#indigenous#truth and reconciliation#every child matters#cultural dolls#Canada#Canadian dolls

Maplelea just released a ton of new stuff! There's a lot more than I've posted here, so go check it out!
If you're not familiar with Maplelea, I recommend you click through and take a look. Their clothes and accessories fit American Girl dolls, Our Generation dolls, and similar 18 inch dolls. And the quality is utterly superb, especially for the price. If you're in the United States, make sure to select the US dollars option up at the top bar.
Outfits with the "coming soon" logo aren't quite available for ordering yet, but will be in the next 1-4 weeks.

Lots of the newly released items are for Camp Maplelea, a set of summer camp-themed clothes and accessories.

This is so cool. Logan looks adorable. I bought this set when I was in Toronto I recently bought a 3D printed dinosaur skull to add to the set

I have recently ordered from Maplelea for the first time, and am very impressed by the quality and value of their doll clothes. Logan is wearing the Paleontology outfit, which included everything shown except for the sneakers and the table. Cost was 50.00 Canadian, which is about $37.00 in U.S. dollars. Maplelea sells many gender neutral outfits, which makes me very happy since my boy dolls have limited wardrobes! The outfits often do not include shoes, which is not a problem since the shoes may or may not fit Ag dolls. Apparently Maplelea dolls have longer and slimmer feet, and sandals in particular will not fit AG dolls.
I also purchased the Explore More Camp outfit, which is super cute, the orange t-shirt, which has a touching back-story, and two pairs of pjs. I sort of already have a long wish-list.

ForestPoodle's Fashions!!

Are you looking for 18" doll clothes patterns?? Okay, maybe you're not, but if you are, I have very exciting news! I've started my own little business selling patterns!! I've got three patterns up so far, with plenty more to come.
The style is largely casual, the kind of clothes you could wear adventuring, which is very important if you're a doll. And the patterns are decently simple and easy to sew up, making them great for any skill-level!
Next pattern release will probably be next week, possibly in a couple of days 👀
#isn't this very exciting?? I'm thrilled!!#even if you don't sew please reblog and get excited with me!#maplelea#18 inch dolls#doll clothes#sewing for dolls#doll clothes patterns#dollblr
