what are your fave wc books outside of the main series (super editions, novellas, graphic novels, etc.)

Mapleshade's Vengeance but like specifically the way I remembered it as a kid, Crookedstar's Promise, Winds of Change, Exile from ShadowClan, aaaaand Graystripe's Vow!

Mapleshade's Vengeance I'd have to read again for more up to date thoughts on it, but GOD as a kid I found it ridiculously cool, entirely because I read it out of order. I read Mapleshade's Vengeance prior to both Crookedstar's Promise AND the main series where she appears, so to me, warrior cats just dropped a book about a random woman in a random era killing a bunch of cats with no prior established characters. And it was COOL as HELL and I am genuinely SO sad thats not how it ACTUALLY was. When I got to her in the other books it was like. OH MY GOD IT'S MAPLESHADE FROM MAPLESHADE'S VENGEANCE!!!!!!

Crookedstar's Promise is just. I Like It. Crookedstar's complicated relationship with his mother and with Mapleshade are just so fun, I love how it's all just... this would've happened anywaysn he would've lived the same life regardless, with all the same tragedies, but Mapleshade uses that against him. It's still warrior cats so it still is filled with missed potential BUT its definitely one of the better books

Winds of Change is one of the few modern warrior cats books I actually bought because I think it was a good read AND good art. I love Mudclaw throughout the entire thing, one of my favorite scenes is him contemplating letting the fox kill Onewhisker, and I just think he's a compelling and interesting character. The Mudclaw/Onewhisker conflict is so interesting, if only I found Onestar even slightly fun to read afterwards

Exile from ShadowClan... good. I like it. I like Nightpelt. I like how it shows him turning to Tigerclaw in such an understandable way, when everyones weak and dying, Tigerclaw is a symbol of strength. Also I love Yellowfang repeatedly bursting through the camp walls. Peak Yellowfang if we're being honest

Graystripe's Vow had WarriorClan and the Moonstone exploded so it's a 10/10 on that basis alone. I found the past segments not great (Plus they retcon Ashfur into being bigoted which like... Ashfur was infinitely more interesting as "person with a slow descent" and not "he was secretly evil the whole time!" which pissed me off), but I think the current day segments were pretty good
