8: ZODIAC CONSTELLATIONS The ancient Greek Zodiakos, or Zodiac, is a division of the celestial sphere into twelve equal parts; each one containing a specific group of stars with a mythic association called a constellation. Ancient Greeks used the constellations for sailing navigation, time keeping for seasonal agricultural practices like planting and harvesting crops, mythic storytelling purposes, and astrology practices. Hellenistic Astrology, taking influence from the Babylonians and Egyptians, sought meaning in the zodiac signs and how they influenced a person’s character based on the position of the sun when they were born. They also used this practice for divination, providing guidance and predictions for the future. Let’s take a look at the twelve Zodiac constellations and their mythic tales. 1.) Aries (March 21-April 19) represents the flying golden ram sent by the gods to save the royal children Phrixus and Helle from sacrifice, and whose fleece later becomes the quested prize for the Argonauts. 2.) Taurus (April 20-May 20) represents the bull which Zeus transformed into to seduce Europa, and is linked to the Cretan Bull and the myth of the Minotaur. 3.) Gemini (May 21-June 21) represents the twins Castor and Pollux, sons of Zeus and Leda, known for their inseparable bond and heroic deeds. 4.) Cancer (June 22- July 22) represents the crab sent by Hera to distract Hercules during his battle with the Hydra, later placed in the sky by Hera as a constellation. 5.) Leo (July 23- Aug. 22) represents the lion, representing strength and kingship, associated with the Nemean Lion defeated by Hercules. 6.) Virgo (Aug 23- Sept 22) represents the maiden, often linked to the goddess of agriculture and fertility, such as Demeter or Persephone. 7.) Libra (Sept 23- Oct 23) represents goddess of justice Astraea, daughter of Themis, who carries the scales of justice. 8.) Scorpio (Oct 24- Nov 21) represents the scorpion sent by Artemis or Gaia to kill Orion 9.) Sagittarius (Nov 22- Dec 21) represents the centaur archer, often identified as the wise and skilled Chiron. 10.) Capricorn (Dec 22- Jan 19) represents the sea goat Aegipan, who aided Zeus in his fight against Typhon. 11.) Aquarius (Jan 20- Feb 18) represents the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, who was abducted by Zeus and placed among the stars. 12.) Pisces (Feb 19- March 20) represents the two fish, Aphrodite and Eros, who transformed to escape the monster Typhon.

My Favorite New Manga Reads of 2023
For the past few years on twitter, I've made threads of some of my favorite manga and light novel reads from the past year. This year, I decided I would move it over to two tumblr posts.
After the cut are some of my favorite titles that I picked up for the first time in 2023.
Talk to My Back, Yamada Murasaki
I like to pick up something a little more unusual at least once a year and so at the beginning of this year, I picked up this 1980s alt-manga title about the life of a Tokyo housewife played out in short vignettes. It's a frustrating read because of how real it feels and how much it feels like things haven't changed as much in the last 40 years as I'd like, but it's all the more fascinating for it. The essay at the end discussing Yamada Murasaki's work and placing it in context was a nice bonus too.
When a Cat Faces West, Yuki Urushibara
I love Yuki Urushibara's Mushishi (slow though I have been to actually finish it), so when Kodansha announced a license for Urushibara's much shorter series, I was there for it. It has a cool concept - there are areas of "flow" that will pop up out of nowhere and shift people and places out of time and space and one guy has tasked himself with helping people fix issues caused by it - but mostly it feels like Mushishi but set in the present day. I love a series that's just vibes all the way down.
Skip and Loafer, Misaki Takamatsu
I was absolutely smitten with the Skip and Loafer anime, so when it ended with what felt like a pretty definitive "we are not making a second season of this" final episode, I started the manga. A high school slice of life series lives by its characters and Mitsumi is the more adorable dork ever. The other characters are equally delightful, even when I don't necessarily like them, and I'm so eager to dive deeper into their lives.
Associate Professor Akira Takatsuki's Conjecture (light novel), Mikage Sawamura
This series feels a bit like what you'd get if you crossed The Case Files of Jeweler Richard and The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window: a college student with a supernatural ability to hear lies that alienates him from everyone meets a folklore professor with a mysterious past fascinated by mysteries, and together they investigate possibly-supernatural events. It's a bit silly, but the relationship between the leads is interesting and there's a lot of fun urban legends in the mix. There's also a manga adaptation that I haven't yet picked up, but maybe one day...
March Comes in Like a Lion, Chica Umino
I was curious about this one from the second Denpa announced the license just because of how much I'd heard about the series for years now, and it did not disappoint. I love a good story about a depressed and lonely teenage boy sublimating his feelings into an obsession with a uniquely Japanese pastime, especially when there's so many people around him wanting to help him stop being alone. Now I just wish that the release wasn't quite as slow as it has been, even if I know the many reasons why...though at least I still have the anime to rewatch while I wait.
Don't Call It Mystery, Yumi Tamura
After reading Basara and Wild Com, I was eager to get my hands on a newer series by Yumi Tamura, and the fact that it's a modern-day non-fantasy series made it all the more interesting. Totonou's incessant observations about the things going on around him are delightful, especially when they lead him straight into all kinds of dangers or even just leave everyone around him wishing he'd stop talking for about five seconds. I just want to pat him on the head and ask him to make me some curry.
After the Rain, Jun Mayuzuki
I got a card for the Japan Foundation's ebook library not too long ago, which has been great for picking up a lot of books that aren't available in my local library's collection, including this series. I had heard about it but was a bit hesitant because it's about a teenage girl who gets a crush on her much older boss...but hey, why not give it a try from the library? I'm glad I did because there was such a sweet relationship between them that ultimately helped them both out of the ruts they were in with their personal lives and dreams.
River's Edge, Kyoko Okazaki
I still can't decide if I actually enjoy Kyoko Okazaki's work or not, but I got a little closer to it with River's Edge. It's a harsh story about disaffected teenagers who find a dead body, but somehow it feels less depressing than the other works of hers I've read because they're teenagers and there's still the possibility that they can escape the lives that are dragging them down. I will say this - Okazaki's stories are never boring, whether I enjoy them or not.
Her, Tomoko Yamashita
I got a little overambitious this year and ordered the Italian release of a Tomoko Yamashita title I've been wanting to read for years. Can I read Italian? No. Did I think maybe I could figure it out kinda okay because I've studied French and Spanish? Yes. Did I end up reading everything through a translation app? Also yes. But this collection of interconnected stories about women and relationships was excellent despite the language barrier. I was thrilled to finally see the context for the kiss between a younger woman and an elderly woman that I so admired in Yamashita's 15th anniversary artbook, and its story was a touching exploration of what "normal" means. I would love to see this in English, but unfortunately I can't see it getting picked up.
Glitch, Shima Shinya
I was thrilled that Yen Press decided to pick up another title from Shima Shinya after Lost Lad London, and Glitch has been well worth my time. While it is a fantasy story about a town full of glitches in reality that I'm excited to see play out fully, what really caught my eye is the sheer amount of diversity in the characters - one of the leads is nonbinary, there are mixed race characters, there's a lesbian couple, etc. It's all part of the story but not in a didactic way, which I appreciate immensely. Shinya's art also makes me so happy, and I hope Yen continues to get more of their work.
Lilies and Voices Born Upon the Wind, Renmei
Speaking of diversity in characters, I enjoyed this series not only because it was a nice yuri with a motorcycle lesbian (always a bonus in my book, the motorcycle) but because it had some really thoughtful discussion of asexuality in multiple forms. I wish I could've gotten one of the printed copies that were available for purchase at one con, but alas.
Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen, Hiromi Sato & Kamome Shirahama
Did we really need a cooking series spinoff of Witch Hat Atelier? Probably not. Am I glad we got it in English anyway? Absolutely. This is basically an Olruggio/Qifrey slowburn domestic au fanfic and I adore it. And I love that they keep up the conceit about magical ingredients in each chapter's recipe, even though they are legit recipes you can actually make with the real ingredients recommended as substitutions. What Did You Eat Yesterday? but with witches, clearly an ideal combination.
Scribbles, Kaoru Mori
I am not actually a diehard fan of Kaoru Mori's work - I drifted away from A Bride's Story when I ran out of volumes at the library - but I do unabashedly adore her art. Scribbles is just perfect for me with its pages from her sketchbooks and her commentary about things like the ideal skirt tightness. I bought this in hardcover and all and will continue to get the other volumes in hardcover even though I almost always get Yen Press titles digitally because it's so much cheaper that way, that's how much I like it.
Innocent, Shin'ichi Sakamoto
I've had my eye on Shin'ichi Sakamoto's work for a while because I saw a bunch of panels from Innocent on here and fell in love with the art. What I did not expect was that the violently erotic story about a French executioner would actually get an English license. It's gorgeous and violent and weird and I am so here for it. Now, if I could just be sure that Dark Horse actually plans on releasing the whole thing...
Barbarities, Tsuta Suzuki
Much like with Innocent, I saw panels from Barbarities on here ages ago and wished I could read it without much hope, given the lack of other licenses for Tsuta Suzuki's bl since SuBLime's relicense of A Strange & Mystifying Story ages ago. But thankfully I am getting to read this nebulously historical drama with all of its social machinations and pretty men getting flustered by other flirtatious pretty men. And such nice clothes!
A Home Far Away, Teki Yatsuda
Kuma really gets some stellar licenses and A Home Far Away was especially good. Set in 1990s America, it reminded me of nothing so much as My Own Private Idaho crossed with Banana Fish and made me weep absolute buckets in the end. I don't think it's for everyone, but if you were ever an aficionado of depressing 90s queer cinema like I once was, this might be one for you.
À vos cotés [Tonari ni], Basso
I was shocked when the announcement for the French release of this title crossed my twitter timeline earlier this year - France has even less by Natsume Ono than the US does, but one of their publishers managed to get one of her actual bl titles published under her bl penname? So naturally, I had to get it. It's super sweet, about a young man who likes to take photos of horses at a racetrack who meets a much older man, and I swear reading it was just like reading her non-bl work only this time the two characters actually got to say their feelings out loud. This would be a perfect addition to several mainstream US publishers' bl lineup, and I would be the first in line to buy it if they did license it in English.
Dear, My God, Nemui Asada
More by Nemui Asada in English! I love Asada's work for its unique storylines and this one didn't disappoint, with a story about a priest having sex with a cult member to help save him and another story about a guy who ends up with a talking plant. It's a bit disappointing that it's only available on futekiya - when will we get some of these titles in print already?
Ikigami & Donor, Hiko Yamanaka
Hiko Yamanaka is another one whose work is always a bit outside the mold, and Ikigami & Donor is an interesting sci-fi bl about powerful "living gods" who have tremendous abilities but can't heal from injuries without blood, bodily fluids, or tissues from one specific donor. It's a fascinating concept and the way the relationship between one ikigami and his donor played out made for an interesting story. I hope to see more from Yamanaka one day.

Reasons to read The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion by Beth Brower
They're written in the style of the great light classic novels. The promo material says people have compared them to Austen, L.M. Montgomery and Jean Webster, and they're right, though the strongest comparisons I see are Oscar Wilde, P.G. Wodehouse, and Georgette Heyer.
They're (as the title indicates) presented as a series of journals by Emma M. Lion, a twenty(?) year old orphan who has recently come to live at Lapis Lazuli House in the quirky London neighborhood of St. Crispian's where she meets all kinds of colorful characters and gets into wild scrapes.
So far, there are six books in the series, with a seventh on the way, and a plan to have lots and lots more. Each book covers two months and kind of reads like episodes of a television show or an ongoing serial.
And that's basically all I knew before starting, and part of the joy of this series is uncovering the surprises along the way, so if you don't want to read any further, that's okay, but I'm still going to talk about more details under the cut.
More Plot Details
Lapis Lazuli House is technically Emma's, because it's been willed to her, along with a living that should allow her to live at a modest but respectable level of comfort. Unfortunately, she hasn't reached her majority yet, and for now, the house comes with a horrid Cousin Archibald who resents Emma after the incident that gave him The Scar, so he forces her to live in a garret bedroom and refuses to provide her allowance. Emma's money troubles have a lot of twists and turns that lead to lots of different adventures that I won't spoil here.
Emma has an ongoing quest to build up her personal library. She had to sell off her father's books to pay for her education, and she can't use libraries because she wants to scribble in her books, so getting books is VERY important. (As all the best people understand). She's constantly engaging with different books, and adding books to her library provides some of the best moments of the series. (Each volume ends with a list of the books Emma now owns).
Those are the biggest (and least spoilery) overarching plot points of the series, but the true draw is Emma's interaction with
The Characters
Emma interacts with a sprawling cast of oddballs, including:
Cousin Archibald, previously mentioned Horrid Person, obsessed with clothes and with assuming Emma is the Personification of All Evil
Arabella, her beautiful, wealthy cousin who is expected to make a good match in The Season
Aunt Eugenia, her wealthy aunt who talks exactly like Wilde's Lady Bracknell, and who recruits Emma to attend high society social events as The Foil to make Arabella look good in comparison
Mary, a School Chum who makes a living as a typist
Jack, the con man Mary has hired to pretend to be her cousin so she can get free time away from her strict "respectable" boarding house
Young Hawkes, the handsome, fashionable, mysterious vicar who spends half his sermons reading poetry
The Redoubtable Ten, a group of Hawkes' rowdy Cambridge buddies (Hawkes is technically the tenth) who heckle him during most of his sermons and admire Emma for getting into scrapes even wilder than their own
The Tenant, also known as Niall Pierce, who rents the garret on the other side of Emma's bedroom wall. They pass notes through a crack in the wall and share a cat. He has a mysterious past, which includes years living in America even though he is Not An American.
The Duke of Islington, St. Crispian's only resident nobleman, who is Very Proper and Disapproves of Emma's wilder scrapes, but who secretly has a very poetic soul
Roland Sutherland, Emma's childhood nemesis who has grown up into a handsome, charming, and wealthy Sun God
Saffronia March, a thirty-something spinster artist who knew Emma's parents and brings Emma in contact with the art world
Mrs. Penury, the wife of Emma's banker, who hasn't spoken for ten years because she decided she had said everything she wanted to say
The other draw of the series is
St. Crispian's
A quirky London neighborhood with many oddball traditions and magical-realism happenings.
There's an ancient Roman ghost that the inhabitants are very fond of.
A yearly tradition of a highly-competitive scavenger hunt to score tickets to the local production of Julius Caesar.
A phenomenon where items go "wandering" from houses, only to be found in random places in the neighborhood (and a local cafe where people can bring found items to be picked up).
Among many others
All these oddities are presented as a normal part of life, no matter how strange outsiders might find them. Though, be warned, St. Crispian's is very fond of its traditions, and its odd rules can cause problems.
Other Thoughts
This series strings you along with book after book of Witty Banter and Silly Misadventures, until suddenly it sucker-punches you with moments of Sadness and Deep Emotions
These characters, even when they're comic archetypes, have deeper layers of complexity and history.
Emma's friendships, especially with the men of her neighborhood, develop into really strong bonds.
There are threads of romance, but they're overshadowed by the platonic relationships.
They take place in what's supposed to be 1883, and take advantage of some actual historical events, but it mostly feels like a light history-flavored fantasy because people don't really act much like historical people. Like, the amount of time that Emma spends alone in the company of unmarried men late at night is scandalous. But it's okay, because you don't expect realism here any more than you expect realism from P.G. Wodehouse.
Aside from some mild cursing from one character (and the stuff in the next bullet point) there's literally no objectionable content in this series.
The series has a really weird relationship with spirituality. Characters are technically Christian, but they take it casually and don't seem to know much about their faith. Hawkes is the Worst Vicar Ever who doesn't give any actual Christian advice (I'm still waiting for a reveal that he's not a real vicar). The magical realism parts are taken more seriously than actual religion. Yet there are some parts that do interact with actual Christian ideas. I'm not crazy about it, which you'd think would be a reason not to recommend it, but I don't think it overrides the good parts of the series, and I need to discuss it with someone, because it's an issue with a lot to explore.
These are some of my favorite books I've read this year, with several of my favorite characters and moments, and I need to have someone to talk to about them.

Letter from Princess Victoria of Hesse to her brother Ernie, written when she, Irena and Ella were in Switzerland in 1882.
"My dear Erny, l am going to send You a long letter about all we have been doing here, these 2 days — we leave to-morrow morning for Milan. Yesterday we went right round the Lake Vierwaldstatter See, You know — in a large steam-boat. There were not many people on board, as the season is rather over. We started at 10 got to Fluhelen, the end of the lake at about 1, had some luncheon & then came back. It was very nice. The mountains are very fine — many already covered with snow & the scenery keeps changing as the boat turns. We went on the upper deck & sketched, walked about & looked at the people. There was a very tiny, dirty Professor & his tall, lanky wife — she had a red nose read her Badecker out, loud, like prayers at church, & ended by marching her poor little husband up & down deck hanging over him, arm in arm. Then there was what Irene calls a honeymoon couple, an ugly but pleasant looking dark girl in a brown newmarket who wrote in a note-book the size of Alix’ hand without the fingers & a little red man who yawned all the time. These got out at Tell’s chapel, a little building on the spot where Tell is supposed to have sprung from the boat. Lastly there was an other couple also English, who quarreled about a Tauchnitz-volume They did not care for the scenery & each wanted the book — of course the wife got the best of it. Today we went up the Rigi in all ease & comfort. By boat to Vitznau, by rail to the Kulm. The engine is small & strong & pushes up one carriage like a tram-car, pulling itself up by a tooth-wheel. It goes very slowly, though a good deal quicker than walking, & takes about % of an hour. You have a beautiful view of the lake & the hills round all the way up. Of course there was a thick fogg at the top. We could not even see the hotel from the station — so we only had some luncheon & came down by the next train. Going down takes longer. The train goes over a deep gully, with a rushing cascade at one place, & often along a precipice. At many places it is as steep as the old Jugenheim road almost. It shakes a good deal. We have been lucky in the weather, especially yesterday, when we had beautiful sunshine going & storm clouds coming back. You can’t imagine the beautiful coloring every-where. The lake is like the green you do the sea some-times & such hills as are covered with beeches are red, yellow, violet, any color You please. | send you two small ink-drawings | have copied from my sketches but as | am doing them by candle-light, | do not know if they will succeed. This afternoon we went to look at Thorwaldsen’s dying lion, just behind the hotel. It is very fine, but | was disappointed about it. The lion looks tame like a dog with the tooth-ache. He is so flat too. Perhaps this came from the light being so dull, that he had no shades at all. Herff is very happy, but would like us to run about all day long every where & have no luncheon besides — he thinks that quite unnecessary & has succeeded with us so far, that we took nothing litterally but soup, bread cheese & wine today on the Rigi. There were two little black Italian’s went up with us & who were very uncomfortable as they got into the mist. Also a young woman & a man in a fez who kissed each other [at] each turn, when they thought no one looking. Our neighbours here are a family consisting of a short fat father, a tall fat mother & 3 very flaxen-haired very, very fat daughters with double chins & no necks, they have a large balcony & come out in pairs hand in hand. They dislike our looking at them much. This hotel is very good. Nice rooms looking on the lake, good food, good beds and grinning waiters. The view from the balcony is be-au-ti-ful, You see | appreciate it. With love from the girls to you & all,
Your loving Vixen"

3, 5, 6, 13, 23 from the video game asks! :)
Thanks for the ask!
video game questions
3. 1-3 games you’ve played in the past 12 months that you really enjoyed
the first Pillars of Eternity game (as evident by how much I've been posting about it) is still great and I 100% recommend it, it is darker fantasy than Dragon Age and there are a couple of Yikes Moments close to the beginning, but you WILL love at least one of your party members and the writing is pretty great. also a lot of its soundtrack was used in season 2 of Critical Role, and there is significant vibe/theme overlap, so if you enjoyed that season you'll probably like something about POE1 (also there are a lot of voices from the cr cast in the game itself. Matt Mercer notoriously voices two(2) of your best friends party members)
Dragon Age: Origins! The OG. The reason I'm even on this website. I had a pretty major reset when I realized that I accidentally locked myself out of Zevran's romance and now I have to do the Sacred Ashes quest again, but once I get through it things will get fun again. I've had a lot of fun writing Kyana meta based on this playthrough earlier this year, and I'm sure I'll have more things to say when I GET OUT OF THAT TEMPLE
I started playing The Sims 4 between writing sessions during NaNo. I made an off-brand Evelyn and another household based on two very old OCs, and I was really invested in them for a while (to the point of considering making fanart of the second household). I stopped playing at some point, but I think that, like Stardew Valley, this is going to be a fun thing to come back to every once in a while.
(the first answer was already very long so I'm putting the rest under the cut)
5. Game(s) coming out that you’re looking forward to
I played the demo for GLITCHED: The RPG a couple of years ago and it's been on my Steam wishlist even since. I don't actually know what's going on with the game (I think it was announced that it would come out in 2023 and then it didn't?), but I really hope that it will come out eventually because the demo is A Lot of my favorite things packed into one game. Like, honestly, even if the game won't be out for a while, I think that the demo itself is a really fun experience.
also, despite everything surrounding Dreadwolf, I'm definitely looking forward to it! though somewhat concerned about actually running the game because I Do Not Think my laptop will be able to handle it.
6. A series you’ve enjoyed since your early days of gaming and still enjoy to this day whether it still has games coming out or is one you return to
.........I mean, this is very much a Dragon Age blog. DA:O was one of my first RPGs (Skyrim was the other) and Here We Are all those years later
13. Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind
I haven't actually played it yet, but Challenging A Queen from Stray Gods. I'm definitely going to play it, though, because this is another game that looks like it was made personally For Me. and this song absolutely rules (my favorite version is the first one they played in this video)
23. A “Wow” moment of awe
...technically I didn't play this one either, but I watched a full playthrough of Wandersong on youtube, and the final song sequence I can't really talk about without spoiling everything was. very. Emotional(TM)
also for a more somber kind of awe, I really like the ambience in Emprise du Lion in DA:I and the White March DLC's entire deal in Pillars of Eternity. in both cases the environment made me just kind of pause for a second and take it all in (actually, adding to the song thing, the Abydon's Shell soundtrack from The White March is haunting)

Top 8 Anime (That I've Seen) in 2022
Whew boy, I wasn't expecting last year to be such a whirlwind, but all that doesn't matter now when there's Weeb stuff afoot! For those who are unfamiliar, when I make an End-of-the-year list, I like to do so without handcuffing myself to JUST the releases of the previous year. If you are familiar, you guys know that I typically keep to the usual Top 10 (except that one year when it was 12), but as you can see, I only had time to fit in 8.
Rules:
- If an anime had already made it onto a previous list, a newer season can't make it on.
- I only keep to TV series, so no movies.
- No repeating franchises (i.e. if I saw two different Gundam shows in one year, I can only pick one).
- I'm skipping Honorable mentions this year.
8. Tales of Zestiria (2016)
Tumblr media
Definitely not my favorite Tales story, but BOY was this show pretty to look at. Ufotable is what Ufotable does, I guess. Truth be told, I couldn't get into the game that this anime is based on, so I figured that watching the anime would be easier. And it was!
7. Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out (2020)
Tumblr media
Ah, yes, one of those shows that upset Twitter. I thought this was an adequately told Rom-Com with our two leads having some decent chemistry together. Looking past the "controversy," it was a perfectly serviceable show.
6. Amagami SS (2010)
Tumblr media
This was my surprise of the year. This Slice of Life Romance accomplishes a rare feat amongst its peers: Every girl gets a happy ending! You see, our male protag starts out depressed and lonely, develops a relationship with one of the girls over a 3 episode arc, and then starts all over again. Not only that, but during each arc, the camera shows how the other girls are living their lives and they do just fine without him. Maybe I'm not phrasing it the way I want to, but it's just refreshing showing potential love interests living fulfilling lives without Protag-kun. It does, however, lose points for having some questionable moments with its high school cast of characters. Based on a visual novel btw.
5. Komi Can't Communicate (2021)
Tumblr media
I can't be the only one who rolls their eyes whenever a story about an average guy gains the affection of the most popular girl in school. I'm, of course, not rolling my eyes at the premise itself, but rather the quantity of stories like this. This story in particular saves itself by having our titular character stumble their way to success despite their crippling social anxiety. I find it both funny and endearing. I look forward to season 2!
4. Recovery of an MMO Junkie (2017)
Tumblr media
Speaking of season 2, I wish this anime had one. I may have mentioned this before about a different anime, but I do find it to be a breath of fresh air whenever we have protagonists who are actually adults. A nerd in their thirties looking for love? Couldn't be me 🙂
3. March Comes in Like a Lion (2016)
Tumblr media
I still don't know how Shogi is played, heck I don't even have a handle on Chess, but anyone who has ever seen March Comes in Like a Lion knows that's not why we're here. Again, not Shogi specifically, but knowing that people, regardless of age, have weight of some kind on their shoulders, it's such a shame that that weight is on a character so young. Expectations, anxiety, loneliness; all that can be overwhelming for anybody. I would definitely recommend anyone to seek this out. Bonus, it has music from Bump of Chicken!
2. Spy X Family (2022)
Tumblr media
I'm sure most of you guys have seen this. You know.
I'm sure there's still plenty of people who haven't seen this yet. It's Everywhere. You guys STILL know.
This show was the right amount of wholesome I needed last year!
1. Mushoku Tensei (2022)
Tumblr media
I would probably have to do some more thinking, but this might be my favorite isekai thus far. Has a well built world AND has utilized the whole reincarnation aspect better than most isekai anime. I would go into it more, but I think I'll make that its own post.
This was a bit late, but at least it's still January, right? Hopefully, I'll be in a better head space this year to make a full Top 10.
Make the best of this new year and stay safe out there.

the jungle Tarzan of the apes book
there were two babies,a strange little ape who was saved from a crazy gorilla and a man cub who was adopted by a pack of wolves after a lame tiger offed his parents. They lived two different lives
Mowgli was raised by wolves,a bear, a panther, and a python
Tarzan was raised by gorillas, is friends with elephants and lion cubs
one day during the dry season Mowgli got curious as to where the Elephants were going so he followed them with Bagheera stalking closely behind to make sure nothing happened to his little brother, Hathi and his heard marched along with Mowgli and Bagheera close behind them, then they saw the strangest thing a pale man cub riding atop a baby elephant
"What's the meaning of this Ma Tembo, why is there a man cub on Tantor's back?" The colonel asked looking as the pale man cub got off the calves back and jumped in, "Man Cub? Why that's little Tarzan, Kala's babe, He's great friends with little Tantor and Mabaya." She explained
Tarzan smelled an odd scent, he grabbed Tantor and Mabaya, they trumpeted in displeasure and followed begrudgingly, Tarzan climbed his friend and stood peering out to see a dark ape small like himself with only hair on his head with a big black cat above him watching curiously and with shock, the dark ape stalked forward coming into the water and they stared at each other
for Mowgli had never seen another man cub that wasn't in the man village and never so pale, He pushed the other man cub
and thus they began wrestling and learned each others names
Tarzan let Mowgli know he had a stalker in the trees, they climbed up to Bagheera, who said that he only followed along to look after the man cub
they played and talked till Bagheera, said it was time to go back
every migration time the two met up
Boloo taught the new man cub the laws of the jungle
Tarzan played with the wolf pups, laughed at Shere Khan and Tabaqui, and played with the bandar log
Mowgli played with Nuru and Sheeta, the young gorillas, and learned to read and write.
they also played with the new toys they found
Then they watched the man villagers
Then Mowgli was exlied to the man village where he occasionally got kidnapped by his friend, but was stopped by the villagers.
They weren't fond of Buldeo or some of the village children
Tarzan had to go back to his tribe but he promised to come back and visit
Tarzan wins dum-dum and Mowgli's got 3 girls and a boy after destroying the man village for trying to make his new human parents join his old human parents

Anitaku – Sweet Slice of Life Anime [Feel a Lot at Home]
Introduction:
In an age of thrilling and hyperkinetic anime, there is something to be said about slice-of-life serving as a soft reprieve from the daily pulse. Slap-bang in the middle of this wildly frenetic genre, however, is a diverse world with its sights set on more conventional experiences and softer relationships: brimming at every point with emotional peccadillos that make it still one of the most beloved areas for many anime fans. With this piece, we look at some of the series that embody these little moments slice-of-life with all the warmth and depth it needs to be unforgettable.
Tumblr media
1. What is Slice of Life Anime?
Defining the Genre
Slice of life anime showcases the daily lives of characters and is more realistic in a sense that such series tend to focus on minute, relatable experiences rather than grand plots. This, in turn, showcases its major themes regarding friendship and self-discovery alongside love and family all within the span of a cozy slice-of-life outing. Clannad (2007) and March Comes in Like a Lion (2016), for example, highlight the mastery [sic] with which more subtle territory of emotions can be struck by a aldente composite-character.
A Window into Real Life
While the fantasy or action genre is just some fiction, slice of life actually captures current experiences and aspects from real-life that can make it even easier for viewers to feel they are watching something like their own lives. These anime try to tell grounded stories and make the audience stop, breathe, confess life's sundry little joys such as eating your favorite dish or walking around looking at a sunset or bonding with people.
2. Slice of Life Made Me Emotional
Characters that feel like people and relationships characters have with one another.
The heroes in slice of life anime tend towards being normal humans who are simply trying to live their best lives day by day, making friends or finding meaning where they can: whether that be the drama high school setting, wanting your big break as a band singer songwriter combination. My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected (2013) and the recently popular Horimiya (2021), for example, delve deep into what it means to forge a relationship with another human being shamelessly exploring through awkwardness but also tenderness there is in two people simply There.
Sweet Moments of Affection区 Classification'][]];UIBarButtonItem[['Title.pm':'Bittersweet.
Shoujo Crafts | I live my life just laughing?Slice of Life has its own slice, dear to me at least in anime, succeeding on little victories almost entirely hidden from…shinmeiartist.wordpress.com Shows like Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (2011) and Your Lie in April (2014) are prime examples of a genre that can illicit powerful emotions out of simple yet meaningful stories about friendship, grief, and recovery. The primary reason behind the popularity of these anime is that they make people feel peace since we are all reminded how moments like this can be brief and really beautiful.
3. Heartwarming Slice of Life Classic Anime
TWO SEASONS: clannad (2007-08) / CLANNAD AFTER STORY
In the world of heartwarming, heartfelt storytelling, this is a luxury that everything must see. Clannad – This is a slice of life and follows the story from Tomoya Okazaki, troubled high school student to help Nagisa Furukawa shy girl with their dream excursion charm club your new college revive. Season one is good with cute moments that happen everyday, but the After Story actually makes me cry and shows more about reality like how family works (I love you Nagisa!!), or overall life of adult themes.
March Comes in Like a Lion 2016
This gentle breath of an anime traverses the life and mental health struggles — experiences we typically consider quietly to ourselves but never in a million years shout out loud to strangers on social media, or even friends without immense trust—of Rei Kiriyama, a young pro shogi player. It is a profoundly touching experience to witness Rei finally coming into his own as person but the series also balances these melancholic images with glimpses of what it's like find community that genuinely has your back. The realistic depiction of struggles and progress is what makes this series so relevant.
Barakamon (2014)
Barakamon tells the tale of Seishuu Handa, a young calligrapher exiled to an island backwater. They farmers there, quirky villagers and learns simplicity friendship self expression. The comedy, sweet bonding scenes and valuable lessons are a breath of fresh air in showing that we all need to take is slow down sometimes and appreciate the little things.
A Silent Voice (2016)
While technically an anime film, A Silent Voice is like a slice of life with its exploration on relationships and emotional learning. The film revolves around Shoya Ishida as he tries to make amends with and seek forgiveness from a deaf girl named Shoko Nishimiya who was tormented by him back in elementary school. As a narrative on redemption, it speaks volumes to the effects our actions have on others and creates stories about guilt, forgiveness and understanding in stirring fashion.
4. Slice of Life Anime — An Unmatched Appeal
Tranquil Surroundings this is the visible beauty
Slice of life anime tends to gloriously offer serene locations that compliment its quiet and more intimate feels. Whether you look at the great wide yokai countryside in Non Non Biyori (2013) or stroll through the expansive city streets of Fruits Basket. The vibrant visuals, at the same time relaxing complements each scene to enrich an overwhelming emotional ride.
Cute Animation and Art Style
Slice of life anime usually does a great job with subtle facial gestures and intricate backgrounds when it comes to emoting through visuals. Shows like Your Lie in April (2014) and March Comes in Like a Lion use subdued animation techniques and metaphorical visuals to express the feelings of their leads. These narratives are accompanied by beautiful, minimalistic yet expressive art which adds to the overall aesthetic of quiet beauty these stories attempt to convey.
5. The Attractions of Slice-of-Life Anime
Break from Action Entertainment
In a world where media is fast-paced, slice of life anime just feels that kontiu. It gives people the time to take a break and appreciate little abundance of life that is often left unappreciated. Between the relationships, growth and quiet moments in slice-of-life there is a counterweight to high-stakes drama of other kinds you tend to see within anime.
In terms of relatability and emotional depth
Slice of life anime, in general are very personal stuffs and that is why it works so well with people. It deals with existential conflicts and issues (such as the coming-of-age theme in Hyouka, or coping up pressures of work vis-a-vis aspiration rue Shirobako) that touch everyone. It offers the lesson that even little things can be important.
6. The Role of Slice of Life Anime in 2024
An Evolving Genre
In 2024 slice of life anime is expanding its horizons it has blended with other kinds if genres like romance, comedy and drama to create stories that are quite warm & consoling. Blue Period (2021) and Komi Can't Communicate (2021), both are more recent titles that incorporate also Humble Slice of Life stories without discarding the elements Type Moon has long since mastered before but with a fresher take on modern themes like self-expression and social anxiety.
Release on a Streaming Platform and Worldwide appeal.
The advent of online, streamed services such as Netflix or Crunchyroll allowed the slice-of-life genre to reach a wider global audience than ever before. This is a moral of the story, quiet way winning films like Laid-Back Camp (2018) and Aggretsuko apssword: anything to contain real success with international viewers who not merely comment on ordinary life history passes kidding xane but find these stories relevant despite nuance in their shared culture.
Conclusion:
Everyone loves a good slice of life anime — they offer fans an emotional respite through the tenderness and heartwarming nature of everyday general living. From timeless works such as Clannad to new masterpieces like March Comes in Like a Lion, the genre still manages grab hold of fans with its heart-wrenching themes and stories but which of these anime is worth your time? And in that regard, slice of life anime is undoubtedly set to warm our hearts for 2024 and give us precious slices out of the slower aspects of existence.
Touching on all the fresh aspects of slice-of-life anime in terms of what lies at its soul, and examining with a combination of vintage components that everyone toasts together is just one post that might appeal to fans oldish hardcoretee awesome guys.

Anime Update V3 11
From Me To You - So we've got Sawako and Kazehaya seated next to each other now and the homeroom teacher has been replaced by what looks like a grown-up Gary Oak (same voice as the teacher in March Comes In Like A Lion, but it works for this one too), so Sawako offers to help with after-class activities, in doing so meeting new friends named Endo and Hirano. Things seem to be going Sawako's way now, with more students coming around to seeing and liking the real her, and even bearing witness to a genuine sweet, heartfelt smile from her. I was wondering when the real conflict was going to kick in, as this all seemed too good to be true, and lo and behold, Yano and Yoshida overhear some girls talking about alleged deinquent acts from their previous school years, and when asked where they heard these rumors, they say Sawako told them!
Hunter x Hunter - Much of this episode moved in slow motion as Gon's group charged past Luppi (who exchanges blows with Shoot and transforms into a more muscluar, multi-limbed, multi-eyed, fugly looking appearance), Pitou moves ahead of Netero and Zeno in order to alert Meruem, and poor Komugi takes the brunt of the roof dropping down onto her and Meruem. But Mereum takes the whole thing with remarkable calm, healing Komugi's wounds and then just...walking right past Netero and Zeno as though they're nothing.
SHUFFLE! - Rin and Kaede tried to move on with their lives while coping with the absence of Primula. Sia and Nerine learn from their fathers more about the truth of Primula's condition and how she's not likely to come back from it, but keep it a secret from Rim and the others until it comes out in the open when Rin gets it out of the God and Devil kings. There's only one real cure, and Rin wants to find it, with his friends gathering together to put a plan of action together. However, Nerine seems triggered by the whole thing and runs out!
The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II - A lovely little girls shopping day gone unexpectedly awry, with Gray, Reines, and Luvia hanging together at a department store that Luvia owns when a bounded field is created via a magical security malfunction. It wasn't much in the way of a mystery or even an adventure, but it was just so much fun watching these three different personalities working off each other in a situation Waver wasn't present in, and getting to witness Luvia unleash her ferocious wrestling moves again was a treat. While Lauren Landa greatly improved her voice acting for Luvia compared to before, I don't much like Luvia's character model in this show, it doesn't look as good. After a good, sincere gal pals moment between Reines and Gray, and some talk of Iskandr, we check back in on Waver to find he's recieved an ominous letter from Rail Zeppelin...
KonoSuba - None this week. Need a break from their madness.
Symphogear XV - The series finale for not just this season, but for the entirety of Symphogear, and as such they did everything needed to make it a worthy finale. Carol resurfaces to fight back against Shem-Ha, who uses the world's computer networks to have Yggdrasil cover the entire globe in a barrier, Noble Red use the last of their remaining strength and life force to do something that lives up to the first part of their name for a change, all of humanity joins together to hold back Shem-Ha's hacking virus, the Symphogears fight a beyond epic final battle against Shem-Ha and then even after she's been terminated and Miku has been freed they need to destroy the core of Yggdrasil with a united Climax Song that brings out the spirits of every dead character that still resides within the girls' hearts and songs. During the escape from the exploding core, as expected, Shem-Ha returns for one last scare and tries to drag Hibiki and Miku down to Hell with her, but the two girls manage to shut her down with their words and the strength of their idealistic resolve and their love, prompting her to entrust the future of mankind in their hands. And just to cap it off in the best imaginable way, the final scene sees Hibiki and Miku watching the stars once again, but this time they're just about to finally confess to one another their true feelings. <3
Eureka Seven - Finally got a full account of how Holland met Eureka and why they defected from commiting war crimes and anti-Coralian acts for the military, and in the process so much about how and why Holland has been the way he's been for much of the series is explained with few words to spare (like, his big brother physically abused him - now we see where he picked that up from!), and we can understand why this current mission matters so much to him. Talho also drops the bombshell of now being pregnant with Holland's child, we get some angst and development from Moondoggy of all people, and Dewey has the lead Voderac monk brought before him, hoping to force his hand in deciding the future of the planet.

8: ZODIAC CONSTELLATIONS
The ancient Greek Zodiakos, or Zodiac, is a division of the celestial sphere into twelve equal parts; each one containing a specific group of stars with a mythic association called a constellation.
8.) Scorpio (Oct 24- Nov 21) represents the scorpion sent by Artemis or Gaia to kill Orion
9.) Sagittarius (Nov 22- Dec 21) represents the centaur archer, often identified as the wise and skilled Chiron.

The Best Perfume To Wear Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Finding your signature perfume can turn out to be an expensive affair, consisting of tons of trial and error. Trust me, I’ve been there. One moment I’m loving a particular scent, and the next moment I’m wondering if I can find something better. Even though I very conveniently blamed the indecisiveness on the fact that I’m a Libran, truth be told, I never actually found a scent that felt like it was ‘made for me’. Until now that is. I’ve recently been taking inspiration from the stars to guide me in the right direction, and so far I have not been disappointed.
This is why I’m here to do the same for you. Whether you’re an earth sign who prefers woody fragrance, or a water sign who likes refreshing scents, here are some perfume recommendations that are bound to get you hooked. Scroll down to find your signature scent.
Perfume For Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
Element: Air
Ruled by Uranus, the planet that governs innovation, technology, and rebellion, Aquarius are known for their honest, creative, and mysterious personalities. The intellectuals are drawn to scents that are eyebrow-raising and have an element of surprise. The Mugler Angel Eau de Parfum is a fun gourmand that incorporates the essence of Berries, Bergamot, and Patchouli creating a unique scent that will cater to Aquarian’s distinctive personality.
Perfume For Pisces (February 19–March 20)
Element: Water
Represented by the fish, Pisceans are sociable, outgoing and artistic. From a young age, they are drawn to music and poetry. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Pisceans are attracted to fragrances that have a creative undercurrent to inspire and arouse their senses. Perfect By Marc Jacobs is a one-of-a-kind scent that will help Pisces channel their inner goddess with every spritz. The sweet scent of Rhubarb and Narcissus mellowed by Almond Milk, Cashmeran and Cedar is the perfect scent for the sensual Piscean.
Perfume For Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Element: Fire
Ruled by the planet Mars, these fire signs are bold, passionate and born leaders. Give them any task, and watch them execute it with utmost dedication. Aries kick starts the spring season, which is why it’s fitting to give them the Fleur Musc For Her By Narciso Rodriguez – a dynamic and spectacular interpretation of a modern-day flower bouquet. Pink pepper introduces the aroma of the fragrance. Rose, Musk and Peony round out the heart notes, which dries down to a base of Patchouli, Violet and Amber.
Perfume For Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Element: Earth
Ruled by the planet Venus, Taurian's are lovers of opulence. This earth sign's idle fragrance would be one that makes them feel liberated while also emphasizing their tender side. The My Burberry Black is a medley of Jasmine, with touches of Peach and Rose, set against notes of Amber and Patchouli that play to Taurian's love for elegance.
Perfume For Gemini (May 21 - June 21)
Element: Air
Ruled by the planet Mercury, and represented by a set of twins, Geminis are known to have two very strong personalities. If you want to please a Gemini, you need to give them a scent that tickles their senses. The Love Story By Chloé is composed of fresh notes that will keep Gemini asking for more. Clean and fresh, this one is composed of Neroli, Orange Blossom and Jasmine from Madagascar, which will keep this earth sign intrigued.
Perfume For Cancer (June 22 - July 22)
Element: Water
Ruled by the moon, Cancerians are highly emotional and suckers for a good romance. Sweet, romantic fragrances are ideal for passionate Cancerians. Think comforting, sugary scents that make the Cancerian feel at home. Element: Fire
Represented by the ferocious lion, Leos are loud, vivacious and never miss an opportunity to be the center of attention. Often known as astrological divas, Leos love anything that’s elegant, upscale, and glamourous. These Fire signs tend to gravitate towards scents that are bold and statement-making. The Libre Intense By Yves Saint Laurent was created for an intense woman living her roaring freedom and following her instinct. Remind you of anyone? Damn right, Leo!

Terravenger Season 6 - The Fallen Magus Arc - Episode 485 (Do Not Copy) - 11.17.2023
The three comrades walked carefully into the small passageway which led into a large and empty temple. The team proceeded into a long hallway. And the trio stopped immediately.
    Kiona called "Sebastian! My magus!"
The aggressive Darrin faced forward as he cried "I know! The welcoming committee seems to be on their way."
The carefree Leo stood at the center of the younger warriors as a large army of soldiers dressed in black uniforms marched before them.
Leading the army was the villainous Lua. He wore a pair of baggy gray pants and short black boots. He had on three types of silver necklaces. He also had his tattoo on his right shoulder which was a black-lined purple half-moon along with two blue dots below.
Lua greeted with a wicked smile and told the group "No one is to disturb our great lord and savior. So, I have come to tell you that this is as far as you go."
Darrin gave a sinister laugh and implied "If isn't the Moon Hermit himself! It appears he has come to stop us from having our meeting with Him."
"A meeting you say?" commented Lua. "More like begin a senseless coup."
Lua faced the hooded individual standing between the young warriors and greeted "And a special greeting to you, Thomas."
    "Thomas?" questioned Kiona.
Leo took off his coat immediately. And he faced Lua with a crafty smile.
Leo now wore a sleeveless black shirt which had a thick sand-colored scarf coming from around his neck to the front left side of the chest area. Above the waist area of the shirt was a thick red design which covered the front part. He had on a pair of fingerless red gloves, long black tights, and long black boots. And placed around his waist was a thick dark-red cloth with the Infinity symbol printed in silver on its front center.
Leo reported "I was informed by Lady Dupree that the Vessel was discovered once again."
Terravenger -- Season 6
Episode 485:  The Fallen Magus Arc -- The Relentless Moon
The smiling Lua gave a soft chuckle and responded "Yes. We have imprisoned a person who has quite a close link with the one being that was thought to be lost forever."
Leo gave a soft smile and implied "That was due to your incompetence."
"We now know the exact location," revealed Lua. "This is actually at your last sector."
The smiling Leo closed his eyes and questioned "His fabled vessel was in Midas City this entire time?"
Lua informed him "The Vessel is protected in the city by all that have opposed Him in the past. One of those include the Raven."
"Yes," implied Leo. "The great commander of the Midas Armed Forces. Mephistopheles and his many forces would have a bit of trouble passing through the strong powers which come from the mightier of the Two Lovers. It may truly be difficult to get the Vessel in your possession."
Lua shook his head and informed the opposite "A tamed lion like the Midas Commander does have his flaws. In fact, we may have an opening that we desperately need. And that is highly thanks to the Night Magician."
And Leo asked "Why does the Bringer call it a Vessel?"
Lua gave a short chuckle and responded "It is exactly what it is. This was planned by the Great Lord once he had foreseen the brief union of the Two Lovers -- the Tamed Lion and his tryst with Tina Mantys."
Then Leo stared at his opponent with no emotion.
"That is right Thomas," revealed Lua. "The Vessel was born in order to provide a new body for the Light-Bringer. A young, strong, fast, and perfect body."
And Kiona questioned "The Light-Bringer plans to sacrifice the boy and have the body as his own?"
A smiling Lua lowered his head and informed his enemies "He has the blood of the one person who exposed the true dreams of our lord to the universe that long ago. The strong ki of a Ravenstone will grant great power to our giving lord. This will give the Bringer what he needs to reform the entire universe starting with this very planet."
Leo continued to stare at his opponent until he finally gave a loud laugh.
Then the sinister Leo replied "If the Vessel has the power that is much desired by him, I must acquired this boy."
    "Acquire?" repeated Lua.
Leo gave a short laugh and responded "I must find the mere boy and use him as my pawn. I will offer to trade the boy for the immense power that the Bringer of Chaos possesses."
Lua giggled softly and informed Leo "You will not foil the plan of our great lord. The retrieval of his true vessel is absolute. No one will interfere in his ambition, least of all you."
The free Leo leaned his head to the left side as he rose his right hand.
"Even after I mastered the teachings of Mephistopheles," informed Leo. "I have acquired more forms of magic to my resume. In short, you alone will not be able to stop me from going to Him."
"Yes," said Lua. "You have indeed become a true mage. But that will not help you in escaping from the new abilities I have gained after the time the both of us had our first encounter."
"So?" implied Leo. "You have been training yourself to the fullest since then? I would be delighted to see all you have learned."
Then a crazed Lua cried "Fine! I shall show you Thomas! I will present why our lord and savior has valued me for so long!"
And he told his soldiers "You may kill two of those who spread their blasphemy against our one true god!"
Lua soon pointed his right finger at Leo as he added "But you will leave that one, Thomas Faust. He will be mine to sacrifice to our gracious lord!"
The hooded soldiers finally charged for two of the intruders. Meanwhile, the aggressive Lua remained standing before his opponent.
Leo continued to stare at the enemy with a careless smile on his face.
Lua yelled to him "Instead of our one true leader, you will bow to me as your superior!"
The wicked Leo gave a quick laugh and replied "My superior you say? You were beneath me since the moment you had recruited me as a follower of Mephistopheles. In fact, I only think of you as of now as the Fool."
"And you!" yelled Lua. "You are nothing but what I have always to referred you -- One of the most desirable! The Traitor!"
Leo pounced a few steps away. And both opponents stared at one another while Lua stood ready for battle.
The sly Leo asked "Will you try to drain my ki away using your hook?"
Lua roared "Like I would do something quite simple! Nothing but my best for the likes of you! I wish to torture you! You will beg to be killed afterwards!"
First, Lua spread his arms apart.
    He called out "Fire Release!"
A large head of a hungry bulldog which was created by blue fire appeared before him. And Lua blew the large projectile at his opponent.
    "Third Trine Attack!" He yelled.
As the dog-like projectile blew toward him, the focused Leo summoned three small orbs of black energy before him with two of them at the top while the last remained at the bottom.
    Leo softly called "Elementum Crystallis!"
The orb that remained at the top left side had blown a large wave of water as Leo called out "Elementum Crystallis! Agua!"
And the blast of water boiled the dog-shaped projectile.
Second, two more of black orbs appeared at the bottom before Leo.
"Elementum Crystallis," explained Leo. "It is a perfect spell that manipulates the five nature elements -- Earth, Fire, Water, Lightning, and Wind. I am able to wield this ability against most projectiles."
Lua analyzed the aftermath of his projectile and implied "Basically, you can counter projectiles from any of the five basic elements."
"One of the spells I have acquired later in my life," alerted Leo. "I did inform you that I have learned even more deadly techniques."
Next, Lua quickly blew his left hand forward which pushed out a large gust of wind.
"Wind Release!" called Lua. "Almighty Push!"
The orb which floated at the bottom right side of Leo blew out a large spiraling wave of fire.
    "Ignis!" called Leo.
And the fire extinguished the projectile of wind shot by the enemy.
Lua gave a soft laugh and reported "It appears that any of the basic elements I fire will only be negated by the strange orbs floating in front of him."
The wicked Lua thought for a moment as his opponent Leo waited at the other side.
Then Leo responded "This is quite tiresome. I haven't the time for your meaningless prattle."
A large ball of purple energy soon appeared before him as Leo called out "Dark Release! Iram Satanas!"
Leo pointed his left finger forward as the shape of his summoning formed into a skull. Its mouth blew out a barrage of small purple energy.
And the calm Leo yelled "Die now!"
As the barrage of energy blew closer to him, the collected Leo rubbed the moon tattoo he had on his right shoulder using two of his fingers from his left hand.
He cried "I forgot about this!"
Outside of the building, the white of the full moon which remained at the top of the dark sky had darkened until it became pitch black.
The obsessed Lua informed his opponent "This ability was taught to me by the almighty Lord himself. You will not be able to withstand this."
Next, Lua spread his arms apart once again as he closed his eyes.
"This!" He yelled. "This will end you! Forget collecting your soul! This technique will end your existence! It will be as if you never existed!"
Leo looked up at the darkness in the sky and gave a soft smile.
Meanwhile, Kiona Dupree rose her hands which caused a barrage of long black vines to rise from the ground.
"Grass Release!" She yelled. "Endless Fantasia!"
Each large vine circled around many of the black-garbed soldiers until they all died from the piercing thorns that emerged from every vine.
The other of the pair -- Darrin Sebastian -- jumped into the air as more of the wicked soldiers stood below him. He aimed his right fist down as his wrist transformed into a large cannon made of pure silver.
Darrin began shooting a ray of pale-blue energy as he roared "DIE!"
A fiery pale-blue light emerged from Lua's body as his opponent Leo continued to look on with a soft smile on his face.
The crazed Lua yelled "Witness as I finally vanquish one of those who had tried to interfere in the vision of my serene lord! This one attack will completely erase you!"
A shiny blue light slowly emerged from the large moon in the sky.
"So," thought Leo. "He plans to eradicate me using that technique."
The shooting projectiles from Leo had dissolved once they reached Lua who began floating in the air. Meanwhile, a large hole was formed on the ceiling which revealed the wicked light shining from the black moon.
Lua roared "I SHALL END YOU WITH THIS FINAL ATTACK!"
And Lua called out "LIGHT RELEASE! FINAL CLEANSING OF THE GREAT MEPHISTOPHELES!"
A large cannon of the shiny blue light blew from the black moon in the sky and shined through the body of the helpless Leo.
The vicious Lua watched as the energy cannon had formed a circular field around the entire temple. The bodies of the soldiers were blinded from the great light until they were dissolved. Meanwhile, Darrin wrapped his left wrist around his partner Kiona. And the clever Darrin formed a large barrier of red energy around them using the cannon from his right wrist.
Lua yelled "May this entire area be cleansed of the darkness that affects my great lord and our savior!"

EL TORO
Sunday, Sept 10, 2023
"Learning and Discover" is a kinda' byline for OAT - the company we travel with - and today's "learning and discovery" event blew my mind. I am not going to lie, I was dreading this event. But I go where the group goes, so there I was in a beautiful country setting with acres and acres of newly planted olive and almond trees heading to a ranch that raises bulls for bull fighting. My exclusive source of Information is from the children's book. Ferdinand. And believe me, I know this book better than most!
Tumblr media
IF I had taken a pre-test about raising bulls and bull fighting, I would have scored VERY VERY LOW. And if I had closely examined my feelings about the whole process, I would have closed by eyes and covered my ears since I have a big fat red circle with a line through it over everything to do with Bull Fighting. BUT since I am a lot of things but not rude, I moved ahead with my eyes open and my hands at my side.
We were greeted by a gregarious young woman named Marta who will become the owner of this HUGE farm/ranch/granja some day. She is still working on her father's farm/ranch/granja - and she reminded us of that regularly. She has 4 siblings but none of them have the passion nor the patience for this work.
Tumblr media
She spoke perfect English and invited into her home - actually more like a museum. And yes - there were heads of bulls on every wall. One thing that stayed with me was when she shared a conversation she had with her grandfather. "Marta," he said "this business is not easy. 2 + 2 never adds up to 4."
Tumblr media
She told us about the farm, the process of raising these animals and selling them, and her family. This farm was started many, many years ago in the late 1880s. Her father is the 5th generation of this bull raising dynasty and she is very, very proud of what her family has done. The walls were covered with posters and photos and articles dating back to the beginning and it was intriguing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Little by little I began to understand the history of this "sport" and the role Marta and her family continue to play. Don't get me wrong, I equate this with gladiators and cage fighting (and it turns out that the origins are from the gladiators fighting the lions) but the Spanish tradition I was starting to understand. The heads of the bulls - which again I'm not really crazy about- are from the bulls that made the family exceedingly proud with their performance in the ring. They have names and according to Marta, personalities. Below is the the first bull to achieve greatness for this farm/ranch/granja:
Tumblr media
1888 was the year and please note that the bull is much, much smaller than the one hanging over Mark's and my head in the previous picture. They have bred these animals into bull ring perfection, I guess.
Marta gave generously of her time and answered all our questions. The bulls are divided into different pastures by age. A bull who is four or five are the bulls that may be selected to be in the bullring. Just like the book Ferdinand, people from different bullrings come to "pick" the bulls. Each fight has 6 bulls and 6 matadors per event. During the season which starts at the end of March and ends in mid-October there may be one or two bullfights per week. There are more than 1.500 bullrings in Spain.
Yes, it is controversial and the numbers of fights and even bullrings are diminishing, but still. The Canary Islands - which are part of Spain, have banned the "sport" although Cock Fighting is completely legal. WHAT?!?! Portugal also has bull fighting - but the bull is not killed.
After the open questions, she took us to the bullring on her property. Below are the pens that lead to the bullring - or cowring? The owner is observing the cows when the are in the little pen before they enter the ring as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was very surprised to discover that the bulls NEVER see this ring. This is for the cows. Matadors practice with cows - all of this breed male and female have horns - FYI! Each cow sees this ring ONLY ONE TIME. While the matadors hone their skills, the owners watch to see which one of the cows is the bravest, the boldest, the most aggressive and those are the cows that will be bred. The owners prefer NOT to have a "Ferdinand" - if you know what I'm saying. The reason for the one and done rule - is that the first time the cows see the movement of the cape, they charge the cape - BUT given a second time, they figure out their fight is not with that cape - but with the person holding the cape. One and done!!!
The bulls that are selected also see the bullring only once for the same reason. Also, their life prior to their trip to whatever ring they are going to, has been idyllic. They grow up frolicking, being fed, given vaccinations for any diseases that might harm them and enjoying life. (Below are 2 year olds - just having a little fun!) Water and food are always available.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is that my Ferdinand below?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a five year old bull. He might be the most furious of the bunch - but he will not be picked because his horns are not quite right. so the bulls that are selected are not only aggressive, furious and easy to piss off - they have to be "beautiful!"
Of course, part of this "job" is making sure that water and food is always available so much of the land is used to grow food for these guys.
Marta took us to the tack room. My mind was blown - it seems to take so little these days. The matador's cape, the capote, is heavy!! I mean HEAVY. It weighs between 5 and 7 kilograms. A kilo for those who may have forgotten is 2.2 pounds. These things are not just pieces of fabric. They cannot be blowing around in the winds and they give the matador some - albeit not much - protection. The cape will stand alone. Did you know the bulls are color blind? I wonder how they figured that out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second "cape" is called a muletta and it is MUCH lighter - although much heavier than I would have imagined. This allows the matador to have one hand free for the sword that will ultimately kill the bull.
Tumblr media
I have taken these pictures of the matadors off the Internet to give you a better look.
Additionally, I have copied this from the Don Quixjo website:
Bullfights take place at the bull rings and aim to subdue the animal. They begin with a short stroll around the ring, or paseíllo, and all the participants of the event are introduced. After asking for permission to open the bull door or toril, the first animal comes out.
The ritual goes like this: Each show has three bullfighters that take care of two bulls each. There are three parts to be completed with every animal and they are marked by the sound of bugles. During the first part, the bullfighter uses the capote, a big cape a with a pink and a yellow side. After that, the picadores show up and prick the bull with their long lances.
In the second part, three banderilleros stick two multi-colored barbed darts each into the bull. After this move, it is the time for the final part of the bullfight. In what is called suerte suprema (“ultimate fate”), the bullfighter uses the muleta, a small red piece of cloth which is hanging from a stick. In this last section of the show, the torero must show mastery over the bull, stablish a symbiosis between both of them and finally kill it using a sword.
Although it is not common, occasionally the bull who has fought valiantly is pardoned by the main official who is known as the president of the ring. Marta told us that 3 of their bulls had been pardoned. "Then what?" we asked. The bull is taken to the vet ASAP and returns home to live until he dies peacefully in the pasture.
We also got to see the equipment worn by the picadores. Their horses and their own bodies are protected by beautiful but heavy protective clothing. They know that this is a dangerous job.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bulls and cows are not touched by humans. They are guided by jeeps - but mostly on horseback. After Marta explained the entire process to us - we got into their work vehicles and headed into the pastures. It was amazing!!!
Tumblr media
Hear are some one year olds running and butting their heads together. These kids....
After a lengthy tour of these different pastures - we headed back and were served a delightful lunch on the veranda overlooking these massive farm/ranch/granja.
After that we left for Ronda, home of the first bullring built in 1785. I toured it the following day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The photo on the left is of the bullpens. - the door are operated from above with the ropes and the bulls go toward the open door at the end of the hallway. The stairs to the right are just the stairs leaded to the seating. Quite exquisite!
The other thing we were told is that since the bulls become highly agitated being brought from their home to this place they have the risk of suffering a heart attack. The way their blood pressure is brought down is by the picadors who prick the bull with their long lances - releasing the pressure. Now we heard this from several sources - but I cannot confirm this and sadly I have spent too much time researching it. From all I have read the purpose is to anger the bull and weaken the neck muscle. Marta told us and the audio tour in the Ronda Bullring said the blood pressure "thing." I just need one more source.
Mark and I decided we would go to a bullfight, given the chance, but despite Carolina's best effort our timing was just off. So no bullfight for us - and I think that is OK with me.
I mentioned that I am very familiar with the book Ferdinand - and I am! 10 years ago - after our first trip to Spain - our grandkids and Mark and I acted out the book. It was an enormous amount of work - but we had so much fun. It is on YouTube - forever - and should you have nothing to do - here is the link:
youtube
There is no doubt that I know MUCH more today than I did when we presented this play, plus my hair is much whiter now.
We did a lot more on that day - but it will have to wait. I'm going to bed.

Reuters
June 30, 2023
SINGAPORE, June 30 (Reuters) - The target of keeping long-term global warming within 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit) is moving out of reach, climate experts say, with nations failing to set more ambitious goals despite months of record-breaking heat on land and sea.
As envoys gathered in Bonn in early June to prepare for this year's annual climate talks in November, average global surface air temperatures were more than 1.5C above pre-industrial levels for several days, the EU-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said.
Though mean temperatures had temporarily breached the 1.5C threshold before, this was the first time they had done so in the northern hemisphere summer that starts on June 1. Sea temperatures also broke April and May records.
"We've run out of time because change takes time," said Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick, a climatologist at Australia's University of New South Wales.
As climate envoys from the two biggest greenhouse gas emitters prepare to meet next month, temperatures broke June records in the Chinese capital Beijing, and extreme heatwaves have hit the United States.
Parts of North America were some 10C above the seasonal average this month, and smoke from forest fires blanketed Canada and the U.S. East Coast in hazardous haze, with carbon emissions estimated at a record 160 million metric tons.
In India, one of the most climate vulnerable regions, deaths were reported to have spiked as a result of sustained high temperatures, and extreme heat has been recorded in Spain, Iran and Vietnam, raising fears that last year's deadly summer could become routine.
Countries agreed in Paris in 2015 to try to keep long-term average temperature rises within 1.5C, but there is now a 66% likelihood the annual mean will cross the 1.5C threshold for at least one whole year between now and 2027, the World Meteorological Organization predicted in May.

High land temperatures have been matched by those on the sea, with warming intensified by an El Nino event and other factors.
Global average sea surface temperatures hit 21C in late March and have remained at record levels for the time of year throughout April and May. Australia's weather agency warned that Pacific and Indian ocean sea temperatures could be 3C warmer than normal by October.
Global warming is the major factor, said Piers Forster, professor of climate physics at the University of Leeds, but El Nino, the decline in Saharan dust blowing over the ocean and the use of low-sulphur shipping fuels were also to blame.
"So in all, oceans are being hit by a quadruple whammy," he said. "It's a sign of things to come."
Thousands of dead fish have been washing up on Texan beaches and heat-induced algal blooms have also been blamed for killing sea lions and dolphins in California.
Warmer seas could also mean less wind and rain, creating a vicious circle that leads to even more heat, said Annalisa Bracco, a climatologist at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Though this year's high sea temperatures are caused by a "perfect combination" of circumstances, the ecological impact could endure, she said.
"The ocean is going to have a very slow response as it accumulates (heat) slowly but also keeps it for very long."
THE ROAD TO DUBAI
Climate experts say the extent and frequency of extreme weather is increasing, and this year has also seen punishing droughts across the world, as well as a rare and deadly cyclone in Africa.
The Worldwide Fund for Nature, however, warned of a "worrying lack of momentum" during climate talks in Bonn this month, with little progress made on key issues like fossil fuels and finance ahead of November's COP28 climate talks in Dubai.
"It was very detached from what was going on outside of the building in Bonn - I was very disappointed by that," said Li Shuo, Greenpeace's senior climate adviser in Beijing.
"We are really getting to the moment of truth ... I am hoping that the sheer reality will help us change people's moves and change the politics."
Talks between the United States and China could resume next week with U.S. climate envoy John Kerry set to visit Beijing, though few expect it to add momentum to climate negotiations.
"This is more a trust-building exercise," Li said. "I don't think either side will be able to push the other side to say much more than they are willing to do - the politics won't allow that."
