ys tumblr do u guys ever miss the masugaku era of like 2017 bc im ngl that ship was really cute when done right (amidst a lot of the odd stuff that came out of the pairing-)
like the concept of gung-ho golden retriever type x reserved quiet studious type was so good, i just have no idea why people always made budo really mean, shin really weak and submissive or something, or a bit of both. i mean, i do have an idea of why it was like that but [grimaces]
ALSO JUST PERSONAL PREF, i think their dynamic was sometimes so far from their in-game selves that i was like what

ah,,, may as well start off this blog with masugaku hcs! i miss this ship,,
💚💚💚💚💚
at first, they were a little awkward with each other. budo was loud, shin was quiet. budo was overly excited all the time, shin was a little bitter and terrified of other people. they both undoubtedly wanted to be friends, but a few things had to change.
shin can't take loud noises. fire alarms, dropping things, budo.. no can do, buddy. he's easily startled by things like that, and is even known to faint at times.
budo didn't pick up on this. he's a big, lovable, bumbling idiot. he'd get excited upon seeing shin walking down the hall and just have to yell a greeting, causing the poor thing to drop everything he was holding.
budo didn't get it at all. be quiet? of course not! he couldn't even think of maintaining a whisper all the time! no siree, he'd always been loud!
but, one day.. shin brought that up. he mentioned that loud sounds always gave him a big fright. budo immediately felt awful, everything finally registering and to why shin would drop everything (literally) when he came into the room.
he immediately apologized. soon enough, he started being more accommodating. he wanted to yell every time he saw shin, but paused and corrected himself with a softer voice. it was foreign to him, but he eventually got the hang of it. now that he wasn't constantly terrorizing the poor thing, they began to get close.
budo visited the occult club quite often. sometimes, he'd bug the members a bit (actually, the only one really bothered was daku at first) by asking a lot of questions, curious about the supernatural. they got used to him, happy to provide answers to someone who wasn't going to freak out or tease them.
this formed a bit of an alliance between the martial arts club and occult club, the polar opposites becoming a bit friendly. they wouldn't overlap with club activities by any means, but they'd eat lunch together (and, undoubtedly, confuse the rest of the school)
the occult kids are creepy, of course. they all have odd behavior, but they're still people and have a lot more in common with other students than one may think. this was especially true for shin and budo, who found themselves bonding even more over their favorite drink, oddly enough. neither of them liked sweet drinks too much. they had an odd affinity for black coffee.
that led to the question shin had been wanting to ask for a while after becoming friendly with budo. budo happily agreed to grabbing coffee with him, sometime.
that was the first step. every now and then became about once a week. they'd visit each other's houses, watch movies (which, budo never shut up during, so shin just started watching with subtitles) and even casually spend the night over. it got to the point where they always had some of the other's clothes in case they'd drop by.
they'd eventually hold hands while walking down the hall before separating for their clubs. whatever it was.. it didn't have a name, yet. but, you can definitely bet shin didn't get any ill-intended teasing for that, considering his hand was always linked with one of the toughest boys in the school.
shin was the one who finally had the guts to confess. it was on the rooftop, the cherry blossom tree in view. it wasn't even on a friday, but the peace.. it made everything ten times better.
the words came out in a nervous rush, but.. they felt natural. he didn't know why he was so scared in the end.
at least.. until budo yelled, again. it frightened him, especially when budo lifted him up and spun him around. he let him down and quickly apologized for scaring him, but he had just been so excited to finally hear such words.
and so, that was the beginning of it all. nothing changed between them other than the fact they had a title between them now, something they could proudly say they were. they respected each other's boundaries when needed, and really learned how to properly respect the other and give them the love they deserved.
aah i'm sorry that's a bit long! that's not even a fraction of all the stuff i can imagine with them, but i don't want to flood with masugaku just yet! though, expect more stuff foe them eventually 👀
