Every Saw movie has a main character detective. A character to root for, someone you hope can somehow stop the traps going on. Saw 3D fails at this. I don’t know anyone who would say they liked Gibson. His acting is weird, to start with. I don’t know if this was the fault of the actor or poor directing but either way it’s bad. Not only is he rude towards Jill in an oddly sexist way, he also has no narrative reason to be the main character. They make up a whole story about him know Hoffman and how evil he is. It comes out of nowhere and is clearly just something the writers made up as an excuse for Gibson being here. This post isn’t just here to talk about how much I dislike Gibson though. I think I could fix this.

Replace Gibson as the main detective with Perez. The only real problem with this is that she died in the 6th movie and I have two solutions to that. Either make her come back from a fake out death again. Or just don’t kill her in the first place I’m making this up so I’ll just pick that one. Not only would this make narrative sense because she already knows Hoffman and how evil he is. But it also makes us want to root for her, the main thing the detective should be doing. She can also just inform people about how Hoffman is bad. This raises the stakes and also makes the fact that Hoffman stops hiding his identity make more sense. I also think the interactions with other characters would be more interesting, not just Hoffman. Perez and Jill would have more interesting interactions that Gibson and Jill did. She would believe Jill and they could even work together. This also matches up with a pattern I noticed in Saw movies. The detective of the next movie is usually in the previous movie. This would also line up, with Perez being in the previous movies with Strahm. That is all.

can saw characters cook?

adam - barely. he’s got solid basics (eggs, grilled cheese, etc) but if he tries a complicated dish it’ll turn out…. subpar

lawrence - yes. not as good as allison can, but raising a kid makes you learn to make a few solid dishes

amanda - never learned, but she’s got the potential

hoffman - no. look at me. he cannot. im sure he can cook a burger and pasta and thats it

strahm - he could if he wanted to, but he lives on a strict diet of coffee and protein bars when necessary 98% of the time

perez - yes. she can cook the best out of everyone on this list

kramer - he can cook. jill was treated well

eric - he can’t. his wife did all the cooking so he’s stuck eating tv dinners now

rigg - he’s mediocre. he’s been learning but he’s in the habit of burning things

kerry - she’s got basics but she’s more of a baker if anything

tapp - no. not at all, no intention to learn.

sing - he can cook and he is the only reason tapp stays fed somedays

gibson - he is always snacking on something of course he can cook

However, during a particularly vast and city-wide heroin intake problem, the Metropolitan Police Department had to visit several former drug addicts around the area. Eric Matthews, alongside his squad, had visited her house, and Matthews planted drugs on her, leading to her arrest. She was later found dead in her cell, with several stab wounds.

Matt Gibson, her biological father, was later given custody of Samantha, when she was only 7 years old. He and her mother had divorced shortly after her birth, so the relationship between him and his daughter never grew close.
